Spring 2027 internships run during the spring semester, roughly January through May, and most of their applications close this fall. If you want one, October and November 2026 are the months that matter.
We checked every program in this guide on its official careers site or job board on October 15, 2026, and we list the deadline each one shows. You'll find what's still open, what just closed, and how a spring internship fits around a semester of classes. Looking for summer instead? Our summer 2027 internship guide covers that cycle.
TL;DR
• Spring 2027 internships run during the spring semester, roughly January to May, and most applications close between October and early December 2026.
• As of October 15, 2026, we verified more than 40 open programs on official career sites, from Brookings and FOX Sports to SpaceX, GE Aerospace and EY.
• They come in four main types: DC policy internships, media and sports internships, full-time tech and engineering co-ops, and accounting busy-season internships.
• Several big names have already closed, including the White House, the State Department and the Council on Foreign Relations, and more close every week.
• Federal programs and accounting firms close first, DC think tanks close in late October and early November, and tech co-ops review on a rolling basis into November and beyond.
Externships are short, remote professional experience programs where you work on real projects for real companies, with guidance from people in the field. Because they're remote and part-time, they fit around a spring course load. The Center for Improving Youth Justice Data-Driven Decision Making Externship, the Pinterest Gen Z Consumer Behavior Externship and the Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis Externship are open now. What Is a Spring 2027 Internship?
A spring internship is a paid or credit-bearing work experience that runs during the spring academic term, usually from January to April or May. Some are part-time so you can keep taking classes; others, often called co-ops, are full-time and replace a semester of coursework.
Spring Internship vs. Co-op vs. Summer Internship
The word "spring" covers a few different setups, and the difference matters because it decides whether you can stay enrolled full-time.
| Spring internship | Spring co-op | Winter busy-season internship | Summer internship | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| When | January to April or May | January to May or later, 12+ weeks | About January to April | June to August, 10 to 12 weeks |
| Hours | Part-time or full-time, often 20 to 40 a week | Full-time | Full-time | Full-time |
| Classes | Often alongside a lighter course load | Usually pause classes or enroll in a co-op program | Usually a semester off or reduced load | No conflict |
| Who hires | Think tanks, Congress, media, nonprofits | Engineering, tech, pharma, energy | Accounting firms | Almost every large employer |
| Examples | Brookings, FOX Sports, Disney | SpaceX, IBM, GE Aerospace, J&J | EY, PwC, RSM, BDO | See our summer 2027 guide |
So here's the short version: think tanks, media companies and congressional offices tend to offer semester-length roles you can pair with classes, while big engineering and tech employers mostly run full-time co-ops. IBM's spring co-op postings, for example, say students pause their coursework during the term.

Which Spring 2027 Internships Are Still Open?
Plenty are, but the window is closing fast. Of the 102 spring 2027 programs we checked on October 15, 2026, 64 were open or reviewing on a rolling basis, 26 hadn't posted yet, and 11 had already closed.

If you were aiming for one of those, set a reminder for the next cycle and use the lists below for this spring.
What Spring 2027 Internships Are in Washington, DC?
Washington runs on spring interns. Think tanks, congressional committees and policy nonprofits hire for the January to May term, and many of them pay.

| Brookings Institution | Spring 2027 internships, 15+ research and business postings | Nov 7, 2026 | $18.40/hr | Washington, DC |
| Wilson Center | Research and staff assistant internships | Nov 6, 2026 | Paid, at least $15/hr | Remote, hybrid or DC |
| House Foreign Affairs Committee (Democrats) | Spring 2027 internship | Oct 30, 2026 | Paid | Washington, DC |

But most DC programs want you in person, though the Wilson Center allows remote and hybrid work. AEI asks spring interns for 25 to 40 hours a week, which tells you how these roles fit with classes: many students take a lighter course load or attend a DC semester program. Do Accounting Firms Hire Spring 2027 Interns?
Yes, as winter or busy-season internships that run from about January to April, when audit and tax work peaks. But the main recruiting season ran over the summer, so by mid-October only late postings remain.

When Do Spring Internships Open?
Spring internships open in late summer and early fall, and most close between mid-October and early December. That's earlier than most students expect, because "spring" sounds far away in October.
Application Windows by Type
Each type of spring internship runs on its own clock. Here's how this cycle has played out so far, based on the deadlines we verified.
| Type | Applications open | Applications close | This cycle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Federal programs | Summer | Mostly by late September or October | The White House began notifying spring interns on September 28; the State Department, NASA's spring session and the Library of Congress have closed |
| DC think tanks and policy groups | Late summer | Late October to early November | Cato Oct 25, Wilson Center Nov 6, Brookings Nov 7 |
| Media, entertainment and sports | In waves from September | Each posting often within about a week; some run into November | ESPN's early October wave has mostly closed; FOX Sports is open until Nov 22 |
| Tech and engineering co-ops | August to October | Rolling, often into November or later | GE Aerospace Nov 6, J&J MedTech Nov 30, NVIDIA rolling |
| Accounting busy season | Summer | Mostly by mid-October | EY's last winter postings close Oct 21; most Big 4 postings are already down |
So the takeaway is simple: if you want a spring internship, apply in the fall. By December, most of what's left is rolling tech co-ops and a handful of late postings.

How Do You Fit a Spring Internship Around Classes?
Decide first whether you're staying in classes or stepping out for a semester. That one choice narrows the list fast.
Credit, Hours, Remote Work and CPT
1. Check the weekly hours. Postings usually state them. A 15 to 20 hour role can sit next to a normal course load; a 35 to 40 hour role usually can't.
2. Ask about academic credit early. Many schools offer internship credit, but you often have to register before the term starts. Some unpaid roles, like the Justice Department's spring college internships, note that academic credit is possible.
3. Look for remote or hybrid options. They save commuting time and open up employers in other cities. The Wilson Center's spring internships, for example, can be remote, in person or hybrid.
4. For co-ops, talk to your co-op office. Full-time co-ops usually mean pausing classes, and many schools have a co-op program that keeps you enrolled while you work.
5. International students: get CPT first. Students on F-1 visas generally need Curricular Practical Training authorization from their school's international office before starting an off-campus internship during the semester, so build that into your timeline.
What If You Missed the Spring Deadlines?
You still have options. Missing a spring deadline usually costs you one specific program, not the whole semester.
Rolling Programs, Winter Break and Externships
Start with programs that review on a rolling basis: NVIDIA's spring internships, CSIS, Heritage's Young Leaders Program, Amnesty International USA and many of Tesla's postings had no fixed deadline on October 15. Congressional offices also hire office by office, so contacting your own representative's and senators' offices directly is worth a try.
And use the time to get ahead on summer. Summer 2027 internships are recruiting right now, and our summer 2027 internship guide tracks what's open.
And if you want real work experience this spring without moving or dropping classes, an Externship is built for it. You work remotely on a real project for a real company, part-time, alongside your classes, with an Extern manager guiding you, and finish with a project you can talk about in summer interviews. Explore open Externships.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should you apply for spring 2027 internships?
Apply in the fall. Most spring 2027 internships open between August and October 2026 and close between mid-October and early December, with think tanks, media companies and accounting firms among the earliest. A few tech co-ops and congressional offices review applications on a rolling basis into the winter.
Is it too late to apply for a spring 2027 internship?
Not yet for many programs. As of mid-October 2026, dozens of spring 2027 internships are still open, including Brookings, FOX Sports, SpaceX and GE Aerospace. Several high-profile programs have closed, so apply to open postings this week and keep a summer 2027 backup list.
Are spring internships paid?
Many are. Among the programs we verified, pay ranged from about $15 to $20 an hour at DC think tanks to $24.50 to $40 an hour for SpaceX co-ops and roughly $27 to $48 an hour at accounting firms. Some government and congressional internships are unpaid but offer academic credit.
Can you do a spring internship while taking classes?
Yes, if the role is part-time or remote. Many DC and media internships fit around a reduced course load, and some offer remote or hybrid schedules. Full-time co-ops at companies like SpaceX, Tesla and IBM usually mean taking the semester off or enrolling in your school's co-op program.
What is the difference between a spring internship and a spring week?
A spring internship is a multi-week job during the spring semester. A spring week, also called a spring insight program, is a short insight program, usually a few days to a week, run mainly by UK and European banks for first-year students. They are different applications with different timelines.
Are there spring 2027 internships in New York City?
Yes. As of mid-October 2026, New York options include Sony Pictures' New York spring roles and MLB's league office, Disney posts New York media internships in waves, and Google lists New York among its Student Researcher locations. Many New York media postings close within a week, so check them often.
Do Big 4 accounting firms offer spring internships?
Yes, as winter or busy-season internships that run from about January to April. EY, PwC, KPMG and Deloitte recruit for them mostly in the summer and early fall, so by mid-October only a few late office postings remain, such as EY's 360 Careers audit roles, which EY says close October 21.
