Last updated: October 2026

onsemi runs more than one US intern cohort a year, and two are open on its careers site right now: 8 spring 2027 roles and 18 summer 2027 roles, posted between 15 September and 1 October 2026. In plain words, you apply this fall and intern either in spring 2027 or in summer 2027. Most of the summer roles sit at onsemi's 300mm fab in Hopewell Junction, New York, where the engineering reqs list $26 to $44 an hour; the rest are in Nampa, Idaho and Scottsdale, Arizona.

Roles here come and go fast. Last cycle, site-specific summer 2026 internships went up between late March and May 2026 and some came down within days. onsemi (Nasdaq: ON), based in Scottsdale, makes power and sensing semiconductors for cars, energy and industrial markets.

What Is an onsemi Internship?

An onsemi internship is a paid, on-site placement with onsemi (ON Semiconductor), the Scottsdale-based maker of power and sensing chips used in electric vehicles, energy infrastructure and industrial equipment. Interns join a specific team for a spring or summer term; the reqs promise mentorship, training, professional development workshops and project showcases where interns present results to engineering and leadership.

Most current roles are fab engineering at Hopewell Junction, the 300mm fab onsemi took over from GlobalFoundries: lithography, metrology, wet process, thin films, defect inspection, reliability and failure analysis, integration and test. Nampa, Idaho hires test, validation and manufacturing engineering interns for image sensors, and Scottsdale's spring roles cover finance systems, demand planning, logistics and sourcing.

When Do onsemi Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

onsemi posts intern roles in waves rather than one season. For the 2027 cycle, the first site-specific summer reqs went up at Hopewell Junction on 15 and 16 September 2026, Nampa followed on 25 September, and a further batch of spring and summer roles landed between 28 September and 1 October. That gives summer roles about eight months of lead time and spring roles roughly three to four.

The summer 2026 cycle showed a second, later wave: site-specific roles such as Probe Test Engineer, Technology Development R&D and Strategic Procurement first appeared on job boards between 26 March and 29 May 2026 and were gone within 0 to 21 days. Whether a similar fall wave ran in 2025 isn't documented, so treat the spring 2027 projection as medium confidence.

Summer internships, roughly late May to late August going by a summer 2026 intern's account. On-site only; housing isn't mentioned in any req.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

No onsemi intern req carries an end date, but that hasn't meant they stay up. In the summer 2026 cycle, a Corporate Strategy AI/ML intern role appeared and disappeared from Built In on the same day, a Technology Development R&D role lasted two days, and a Probe Test Engineer role lasted about twelve.

This cycle has already shown the same pattern: the four broad "Multiple Locations" pool reqs posted on 9 and 10 September were no longer listed by 3 October. Deadlines shown on job boards, such as 17 October 2026 for one Module Engineer role, are those boards' own 30-day expiry, not onsemi's. Apply within the first few days a role is up.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

onsemi's reqs set these requirements; they differ a little by role:

• Enrollment: currently pursuing a bachelor's, master's or PhD in a related field. The Nampa reqs want a student "currently enrolled in school pursuing an accredited" degree the following semester.

• Class year: Hopewell Junction fab roles prefer "Junior or Senior undergraduate standing"; Module Engineer asks for students "headed into Junior or Senior year."

• GPA: "Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred" on the Metrology, Lithography and Wet Process reqs; no GPA appears on the others.

• Majors: electrical, computer, mechanical, chemical and materials engineering, physics, computer science and data science for engineering roles; business, supply chain and finance majors for the Scottsdale roles.

• Work authorization: none of the 26 US intern reqs states a sponsorship or citizenship rule, so ask the recruiter before you assume either way.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff?

No. Where onsemi mentions a GPA, it's worded as "preferred", and only on three of the 26 live reqs. Class standing is the stronger filter at Hopewell Junction, where most fab roles want rising juniors or seniors with coursework in semiconductor devices or processing.

What Skills Does onsemi Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

onsemi's intern reqs are heavy on data. Nearly every fab role asks interns to analyze tool, yield or process data and turn it into a dashboard or a root-cause finding, alongside the device knowledge you'd expect from a chipmaker.

Three buckets cover most of it. Semiconductor fundamentals: process steps and device physics, with MOSFET and IGBT technology named on the probe test side. Data and problem solving: statistics, SPC and yield, Power BI dashboards, SQL and Python. Factory habits: Lean, continuous improvement and clear presentations to engineers and managers.

What Is the onsemi Application and Interview Process Like?

onsemi doesn't publish its interview process. This outline combines its req text with first-hand Reddit accounts:

1. Apply on onsemi's Oracle careers site to each role that fits; there's no single program application now that the pool reqs are unlisted.

2. Recruiter or hiring-manager screen, often within weeks of posting for site-specific roles.

3. Technical interview with the team. An applications engineering intern said device topics such as ESD protection, diodes and BJTs came up; another candidate's prep list covered band gaps, carrier transport, breakdown voltage and datasheet parameters.

4. Offer. A summer 2026 applications engineering intern had accepted by mid-April 2026.

onsemi also recruits on campus at schools including Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Purdue, RPI, RIT, Penn State and Texas A&M, according to its University Relations page.

What Students on Reddit Say

A handful of recent onsemi interns and candidates have posted about the role, the interviews and the logistics.

A junior EE student who accepted a summer 2026 applications engineering offer said the interviews pointed to bench work: oscilloscopes, soldering and characterizing ESD protection parts, diodes and BJTs. By July, another student was asking when summer 2027 applications would open.

How Do You Stand Out for an onsemi Internship?

onsemi doesn't publish applicant numbers, class size or a conversion rate. What its reqs reward is fit with one specific team, so treat each application as its own.

First, apply to the exact site role, not just one. With pool reqs gone, every role is a separate door; a fab student might reasonably apply to lithography, metrology and defect inspection at once.

Second, show device knowledge and data skills together. Mention coursework in semiconductor devices or processing, and bring one project where you cleaned real data and built a chart or dashboard from it.

Third, keep watching after you apply. Last cycle's best roles posted as late as May and vanished within days.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 onsemi internship?

No. Summer 2026 internships have ended and those roles are closed. What's open now is the next cycle: 8 spring 2027 and 18 summer 2027 US intern roles at Hopewell Junction in New York, Nampa in Idaho and Scottsdale in Arizona, all posted between 15 September and 1 October 2026.

When do onsemi internship applications open?

For the 2027 cycle, onsemi began posting spring and summer intern roles in September 2026, and more were added through 1 October. In the summer 2026 cycle, a second wave of site-specific roles appeared between late March and May 2026, so expect late summer 2027 roles in spring 2027 too.

Does onsemi have an application deadline?

onsemi's intern reqs show no end date, but they don't stay open long. Several summer 2026 roles came down within days, and the September 2026 pool reqs were unlisted within about three weeks. Dates shown on job boards, often 30 days after posting, are the boards' own expiry, not onsemi's.

How much do onsemi interns get paid?

onsemi publishes pay only for its New York roles: Hopewell Junction engineering internships list $26 to $44 an hour, and a spring 2027 logistics analyst internship there lists $21.75 to $25.50. Reqs in Idaho and Arizona don't state pay, so ask the recruiter before you accept an offer.

Does onsemi offer spring internships?

Yes. Eight spring 2027 roles are live: manufacturing and validation engineering in Nampa, Idaho, a logistics analyst at Hopewell Junction, New York, and finance ERP, demand planning, logistics and sourcing roles in Scottsdale, Arizona. onsemi hasn't published the spring start month, so confirm it during interviews.

What GPA does onsemi require for internships?

onsemi doesn't set a hard GPA floor. Three Hopewell Junction fab reqs say a minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred, and the rest don't mention GPA. Class standing matters more there: most fab roles prefer students heading into their junior or senior year with relevant semiconductor coursework.

What is the onsemi intern interview like?

onsemi doesn't publish its process, but candidates describe a screen followed by technical interviews with the team. Topics reported on Reddit include ESD protection devices, diodes and BJTs, band-gap engineering, carrier transport, breakdown voltage and reading datasheet parameters, so review device physics before you interview.

Do onsemi interns get full-time offers?

onsemi doesn't publish a conversion rate. Its reqs describe internships as "a strategic pipeline for entry-level career positions" and mention rotational field sales and finance analyst tracks for interns moving into full-time roles, so a strong internship is a recognized route in, not a guarantee.

onsemi's spring and summer 2027 roles are open now and can close without notice. Apply this week, then use a remote Externship to give your interviews a finished data project to talk about.
