If you're looking for fashion marketing internships or beauty internships for summer 2027, some of the biggest programs are already open. Nike posted in mid-August. L'Oréal's rolling window runs August 13 through September 30. Estée Lauder could drop any day. These aren't industries that wait for you to finish your fall semester before they start filling seats. They recruit while you're still buying textbooks.

This guide covers 20+ companies across athletic and sportswear, beauty and cosmetics, fashion houses, and fashion retail, with career page links, Extern guide links, pay ranges, and application timelines. For CPG companies like P&G and PepsiCo, see our Retail & CPG Internships Summer 2027 guide.

TL;DR

• Fashion and beauty companies recruit on an aggressive timeline. Nike, L'Oréal, and Estée Lauder open in August 2026, and the most competitive programs fill within weeks. The window for summer 2027 is now.

• Pay ranges from $20 to $35 per hour at most major companies. Nike and L'Oréal sit at the top. Sephora, Ulta Beauty, and department stores pay $18 to $25.

• This guide covers 20+ companies organized by sector (athletic/sportswear, beauty/cosmetics, luxury/fashion houses, fashion retail) with career page links, Extern guide links, and timelines.

• Marketing, merchandising, product development, and visual design are the highest-demand intern functions. But supply chain and data analytics roles are growing fast across every company here.

• No fashion experience? A remote Externship in consumer insights or brand analytics gives you a project to cite instead of hoping your coursework carries you.

Externships are short, remote professional experience programs where you work on real projects with real companies. The Beats by Dre Data Analytics Externship builds the consumer-insights skills fashion and beauty recruiters look for, and the Beats by Dre Consumer Behavior Market Analysis Externship adds brand research to your resume.

What Does a Fashion or Beauty Internship Actually Look Like?

A fashion or beauty internship is a paid, 10- to 12-week summer placement at a consumer brand where you work on real projects in marketing, product development, merchandising, buying, supply chain, or digital strategy. These are corporate headquarters roles. You're not folding clothes. You're analyzing consumer trends, building campaign decks, managing product launches, or optimizing logistics for brands that millions of people interact with daily.

The industry splits into four tracks, and the day-to-day looks very different depending on which one you pick.

Athletic vs Beauty vs Luxury vs Fashion Retail: Which Track Fits You?

Athletic and sportswear companies like Nike and Adidas focus on product creation, digital innovation, athlete marketing, and supply chain at global scale. You like the intersection of design, technology, and sports culture? This is the track. But know what you're getting into. Nike's WHQ internship is the most competitive in this entire guide, with roughly 70,000 applications for about 200 spots.

Beauty and cosmetics companies like L'Oréal, Estée Lauder, and Ulta Beauty put interns in brand marketing, product development, consumer insights, and digital. L'Oréal runs a 9-track program with a structured assessment pipeline: aptitude test, HireVue, then assessment center. If you care about consumer science and brand building, this is where you want to be.

Luxury and fashion houses (PVH, Tapestry, Ralph Lauren, LVMH) blend creative brand management with merchandising and retail strategy. Programs are smaller and more relationship-driven. PVH and Tapestry have structured pipelines. At many other luxury houses, connections and networking matter as much as your application. Honestly, probably more.

Fashion retail and department stores (Nordstrom, Macy's, Gap, TJX) offer internships in buying, merchandising, e-commerce, and operations. These are the highest-volume employers in this guide. And TJX's off-price buying program is genuinely unique: you're sourcing discounted inventory from brands and making real-time purchasing decisions. Not many internships put that kind of responsibility in your hands.

Which Companies Are Hiring Summer 2027 Interns?

Over 20 companies across athletic, beauty, luxury, and fashion retail recruit summer interns every year. Here's who's hiring, what makes each program different, and where to apply.

Athletic & Sportswear

Nike is the hardest to get into on this entire list. WHQ internships in Beaverton, Oregon span product creation, digital innovation, supply chain, marketing, and finance. Applications opened mid-August 2026, and design roles close fastest. Nike provides relocation assistance for interns moving to Portland.

Adidas runs internships from its North American HQ in Portland across marketing, design, global operations, and product development. The application window is unusual: it opens in early January 2027 for just one week. Not a rolling deadline. One week. The entire screening-to-offer pipeline runs January through March. And instead of a cover letter, Adidas asks for a creative brief responding to a branding prompt.

Under Armour (careers), New Balance (careers), Puma (careers), and Lululemon (careers) all run summer intern programs with smaller cohorts.

Beauty & Cosmetics

L'Oréal runs one of the most structured beauty internship programs in the US. The paid, 11-week program spans 9 tracks including marketing, supply chain, finance, R&D, and digital. Applications opened August 13 and close September 30, 2026, with rolling review from day one. L'Oréal requires a 3.5 GPA and caps applications by volume. So the real deadline isn't September 30. It's whenever the cap fills. Apply in week one.

Estée Lauder offers four distinct summer tracks: the Lauder Summer and Presidential tracks for undergrads, a STEM/R&D track, and FASLEAP for first-year MBAs. Applications are expected to open late August 2026. ELC's brands include MAC, Clinique, La Mer, Tom Ford Beauty, and Bobbi Brown, so the range of projects you could land is wide.

Ulta Beauty runs a paid summer program (the DREAM internship) at its Bolingbrook, IL headquarters across corporate strategy, marketing, e-commerce, merchandising, finance, IT, and supply chain. Applications open fall 2026.

Sephora (LVMH) fills fewer than 100 corporate seats every summer from its San Francisco HQ. The estimated acceptance rate sits around 5 to 8 percent. What sets Sephora apart is the LEAP rotational program that follows: a 9-month cross-functional rotation the internship serves as a prerequisite for. Applications open around September 2026 on a rolling basis.

Coty (CoverGirl, Rimmel, philosophy, Burberry Beauty) runs summer internships from New York. Shiseido (careers) and Revlon (careers) recruit smaller cohorts.

Fashion Houses & Luxury

PVH Corp. (Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger) runs a structured summer program from New York across marketing, merchandising, design, and operations. PVH has one of the more formalized luxury internship pipelines, with dedicated campus recruiting.

Tapestry (Coach, Kate Spade, Stuart Weitzman) (careers) offers summer internships in design, merchandising, marketing, and finance from New York. Ralph Lauren (careers) recruits across design, merchandising, and marketing, with a strong emphasis on brand heritage.

Luxury houses recruit differently than athletic or beauty companies. Programs are smaller, less structured, and more relationship-driven. Campus info sessions, alumni networks, and LinkedIn outreach matter more than a polished online application. The trade-off: the experience is brand-immersive in a way bigger programs can't match, and return offers at PVH and Tapestry are competitive.

Fashion Retail & Department Stores

Nordstrom runs a paid, 10-week corporate internship at its Seattle headquarters with housing and travel covered. Tracks include merchandising, buying, data analytics, marketing, finance, and software engineering. Applications open around September 2026.

Macy's offers an executive development internship across merchandising, marketing, finance, and technology from New York. Gap Inc. (Old Navy, Banana Republic, Athleta) recruits summer interns in design, merchandising, and marketing from San Francisco.

TJX Companies (T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods) runs one of the most distinctive buying programs in retail. Off-price buying is its own skill set: you're sourcing discounted inventory and making real-time purchasing decisions. Burlington runs a similar model.

What Do Fashion and Beauty Internships Pay?

Fashion and beauty internships are paid at every major company on this list. But the range is wider than you'd expect. What you earn depends on the company, the function, and whether you're an undergrad or MBA.

Athletic and sportswear pays at the top. Nike offers $22 to $35 per hour depending on function, with engineering and tech roles at the high end. Nike also provides relocation assistance. Adidas pays $20 to $28 per hour from Portland.

Beauty and cosmetics companies pay $20 to $30 per hour for most corporate tracks. L'Oréal's 11-week program is paid with a hybrid structure. Estée Lauder's compensation varies by track. Ulta Beauty and Sephora pay $18 to $24.

Luxury and fashion houses have the widest range. PVH and Tapestry run paid programs at competitive rates. But smaller luxury houses and independent designers sometimes offer unpaid or stipend-based positions. If a listing doesn't mention compensation, ask directly before committing. That's not being difficult. That's being smart.

Fashion retail pays $18 to $26 per hour. Nordstrom stands out by covering housing and travel for all corporate interns. Macy's pays $18 to $22. Gap Inc. pays $20 to $25.

One thing to know: housing and relocation stipends are less common in fashion and beauty than in CPG. Nike and Nordstrom are the exceptions. Factor that in if you're comparing offers across industries.

When Do Applications Open for Summer 2027?

Fashion and beauty companies recruit faster than most industries. Some programs are already open or closing soon, and waiting until January means missing the best companies entirely.

Here's the timeline:

1. August 2026 (NOW): Nike and L'Oréal are already open. L'Oréal's window runs August 13 to September 30, with rolling review. Nike design roles close fastest. Estée Lauder is expected any day.

2. September to October 2026: Sephora, Ulta Beauty, PVH, Coty, and Nordstrom post in this window. Adidas won't open until January (see below).

3. October to December 2026: Department stores (Macy's, Gap, TJX, Burlington) post summer 2027 roles. Shiseido and Revlon open here too.

4. January 2027: Adidas opens for exactly one week. This is not a typo. Miss it and you wait a year.

5. January to March 2027: Late-cycle postings, smaller brands, and luxury houses that recruit informally.

The single most important thing to remember: L'Oréal caps applications by volume, not by date. Positions close when they hit the cap, even if September 30 hasn't arrived yet. Why wait?

What Skills Do Fashion and Beauty Companies Look For?

The top skills across fashion and beauty internship JDs: brand marketing and storytelling, visual merchandising, consumer insights and data analytics (Excel, Tableau), product development, digital marketing (social, influencer, e-commerce), and supply chain. The industry is more technical than people think. Every major beauty company now hires data analysts and supply chain engineers alongside creative marketers.

If you're targeting marketing or merchandising roles, you need to show you understand the consumer. Liking the product isn't enough. And if you're targeting supply chain or analytics, you're competing with fewer applicants for roles that are growing faster than creative tracks. That's worth knowing.

Build These Skills Before You Apply

Every skill above maps to a remote Externship that ends in a finished company project.

Going into beauty marketing or consumer insights? The Beats by Dre Data Analytics Externship gives you a consumer brand project to reference. Interested in brand research? The Beats by Dre Consumer Behavior Market Analysis Externship builds the consumer research experience that fashion and beauty recruiters actually want to see.

Here's what recruiters tell us: they want to see that you understand the consumer, not just that you like clothes. A finished project from a consumer brand carries more weight than coursework alone. It just does.

How Do You Break into Fashion with No Experience?

Most students applying to fashion and beauty internships don't have prior industry experience. That's normal. Recruiters know this. What they're screening for is analytical thinking, consumer curiosity, and initiative.

Three approaches that work:

Use what you already have. Any marketing, social media management, event planning, or analytical work counts. Ran the marketing for a campus club? That's relevant. Did a research project involving consumer behavior? Even more so. You don't need "fashion" on your resume to qualify for these roles.

Build a project portfolio. A remote Externship gives you a company-endorsed project for your resume. When a L'Oréal recruiter sees "completed a consumer insights project with Beats by Dre," that reads very differently than "took Marketing 201." It shows you've done the work.

Target the right track. Merchandising, supply chain, and finance roles at fashion companies accept any major and get fewer applications than creative and design tracks. If you're not a fashion or design major, these are your highest-probability entry points. And once you're inside the company, lateral moves happen.

You don't need a fashion degree. You don't need prior beauty experience. You need to show you can think analytically about consumer problems and that you've taken initiative beyond the classroom. Explore all Externships.

FAQ

Are fashion internships paid?

Most corporate fashion internships at major companies (Nike, L'Oréal, Nordstrom, Gap) are paid, typically $18 to $35 per hour. Every company in the table above offers paid summer internships. Unpaid positions still exist at smaller luxury houses and independent designers, but they're the exception at the companies in this guide.

Do I need a fashion degree to get a beauty internship?

No. L'Oréal, Estée Lauder, and Nike all accept any major for marketing, finance, supply chain, and operations roles. Design and product development roles may prefer fashion or design degrees, but a strong portfolio can substitute. Most beauty companies care more about analytical ability and consumer curiosity than what your diploma says.

How competitive are Nike internships?

Very. Nike receives roughly 70,000 applications for about 200 WHQ intern spots. That's a sub-0.3% acceptance rate. Design roles close fastest and are the most competitive. But corporate functions like finance, supply chain, and data analytics are less competitive. If you're flexible on function, your odds go up.

What is the difference between a merchandising internship and a buying internship?

Merchandising plans how products are displayed, priced, and promoted across channels. Buying selects which products to stock and negotiates with vendors. At department stores like Nordstrom, Macy's, and TJX, these are separate career tracks. At smaller companies, they overlap.

When should I apply for summer 2027 fashion internships?

Now. Nike and L'Oréal opened in August 2026. Estée Lauder follows in late August. Sephora and Nordstrom open in September. Department stores post October through December. Adidas opens for just one week in January 2027. Apply in the first week of a posting going live. L'Oréal closes positions when they hit their application cap, not on a fixed date.

Do fashion internships lead to full-time offers?

Yes, at most major companies. L'Oréal, Nike, and Estée Lauder all have structured conversion pipelines. L'Oréal's assessment center is specifically designed to evaluate return-offer potential. Sephora's internship feeds into the LEAP rotational program. Nordstrom and Macy's both make return offers to top performers.
