Last updated: November 2026
Stephens Inc. opens its Investment Banking Summer Analyst application in January and closes it toward the end of the same month, about 17 months before the internship starts. That's the firm's own description on its Summer Analyst page, and trackers recorded the summer 2027 posting from January 12 to February 21, 2026. So the banking window for summer 2027 is closed, and this page targets summer 2028. In plain words: you apply during 2027, you intern in summer 2028.
One Stephens internship is open right now. On November 1, 2026, the firm's job board listed 22 openings, and the only internship was the 2027 Stephens Insurance Summer Intern in Little Rock. Banking applications for summer 2028 are expected in early to late January 2027.
What Is a Stephens Internship?
A Stephens internship is a paid summer program at Stephens Inc., the family-owned investment bank and financial services firm based in Little Rock, Arkansas. Its main student program is the Investment Banking Summer Analyst Program, a 10-week, in-person generalist internship: summer analysts work across sectors on live deals rather than joining one group. Stephens also runs a Private Wealth Management internship and a Stephens Insurance internship. The firm describes itself as in operation since 1933 and privately held by the Stephens family, with a transatlantic banking team of "more than 250 investment banking professionals." Search carefully: "Stephens" also matches Stephens College and unrelated employers, so check that a posting comes from stephens.com or the firm's own job board.

When Do Stephens Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Stephens publishes its own pattern. The Summer Analyst page says banking applications "open in early January and close towards the end of January" for internships starting the summer of the following year. Trackr recorded the summer 2027 posting from January 12 to February 21, 2026. The calendar moved recently: in July 2025 the same page said applications opened in August, and the summer 2026 posting went up on August 1, 2025, about 10 months ahead. With one January cycle on record, treat summer 2028 dates as projections; Trackr expects mid-January 2027. The wealth management internship runs on its own calendar, opening on the first business day of August and closing toward the end of September.
Some tracks have already closed. Banking and wealth management applications for summer 2027 are shut, and banking for summer 2028 isn't open yet: on November 1, 2026, the job board listed no banking internship. The one live posting is the 2027 Stephens Insurance Summer Intern in Little Rock, up since September 15, 2026. If that fits you, apply now.
Join the Summer Analyst email list, attend a fall info session if Stephens visits your campus, and decide your first and second office preferences. Practice accounting and valuation technicals.
Investment Banking applications for summer 2028 are expected to open, about 17 months before the internship. Stephens says the window closes toward the end of January, so apply in the first days.
Banking interviews for summer 2028 are expected in February: several virtual rounds, then an in-person superday in the office you chose. Wealth management applications for summer 2028 are expected from August 2 to late September 2027, with interviews from September.
The banking internship: one training week in Little Rock, then 10 weeks of live-deal work in your office. Strong performers may receive a full-time offer.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Stephens' banking application is a short window. The firm's own page says applications "open in early January and close towards the end of January", which leaves a few weeks at most, and trackers recorded the summer 2027 posting closing on February 21, 2026. Interviews moved quickly after that: a Wall Street Oasis applicant described a phone screen and a second round for Atlanta, and another said the Little Rock office was sending superday invites in early February 2026 (community-reported). Because the calendar moved from August to January in a single year, don't assume it can't shift again. Join the email list now, check the job board from the last week of December 2026, and apply the week the summer 2028 posting appears.
Which Stephens Internship Programs Should You Target?
Stephens runs three US summer internships, each on its own calendar.
| Program | Focus | Duration | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Investment Banking Summer Analyst Program | Generalist M&A and capital-raising work across sectors, with exposure to private equity firms and family offices | 10 weeks | Financial analysis, pitch books and CIMs, industry research |
| Private Wealth Management Summer Internship | Work beside the two-year analyst class on portfolios, planning and client service; includes the SIE exam | June 1 to end of July | Equity and bond analysis, Excel, client communication |
| Stephens Insurance Summer Internship | Rotations through claims, risk consulting, loss control, placement, InsurTech and finance, ending in a capstone | 10 weeks | Policy review and analysis, presentations, Microsoft Office |
Program pages are linked from the Stephens Students and Graduates page. The insurance page's own "Apply now" button pointed to an expired posting when we checked, so apply through the job board.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Each program sets its own bar. What Stephens states:
• Class year: banking is open to "undergraduate and graduate students." A January application about 17 months ahead lands in sophomore year for most students; Adventis files the summer 2028 posting under the class of 2029. Insurance strongly prefers rising seniors; the wealth management posting preferred juniors and seniors.
• GPA: insurance asks for "3.5 or higher (or equivalent academic standing)." Banking asks for an "outstanding record of academic achievement" and wealth management for "a strong academic record", with no number.
• Major: banking prefers finance or accounting coursework. Insurance lists risk management and insurance, finance, business, economics and accounting.
• Tools: banking asks for "advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access."
• Work authorization: not stated in the Stephens postings we read. Ask the recruiter before you apply.
• School: "anyone is welcome to apply", even though Stephens visits a limited number of campuses.

Is the 3.5 GPA a Hard Cutoff at Stephens?
Only the insurance internship states one, and it allows "equivalent academic standing," so it isn't purely numeric. The banking and wealth management postings name no GPA at all. Read the summer 2028 banking posting when it appears in January and go by its wording.

Could You Get In at Stephens? Compare Your Profile
Based on 543 investment banking summer analysts at top investment banks from the classes of 2025 and 2026 (public LinkedIn profiles, aggregated). Six questions, under a minute.
Which summer are you applying for?
Recruiting timelines differ by class year, so we compare you with the right group.
Which group is your school closest to?
Firms recruit on campus in tiers. We match you against admits from schools like yours.
Is your major finance, economics, accounting or business?
Math and statistics count too. Major is not a hard filter, but it shifts how much your coursework has to prove.
How many internships, externships or research positions have you held so far?
Count anything with a real employer, mentor or principal investigator attached. Retail and food service do not count.
Has any of that experience been finance-related?
Banking, PE or VC, corporate finance, wealth management, equity research, accounting or consulting. Any size of firm counts.
Are you in a finance club, investment fund or case competition team?
Campus clubs are how most admits get their first deal and modelling reps.

What Skills Does Stephens Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
The banking posting lists the work plainly: "detailed financial analysis for various types of transactions," pitch books and Confidential Information Memorandums, and "quantitative and qualitative industry research." The program page adds deal structure, modeling and the due diligence process. Wealth management interns evaluate client portfolios through "individual equity and bond analysis" and build spreadsheets and reports, while insurance interns review policies and finish with a capstone presentation.

For Stephens applicants: on November 1, 2026 the Stephens job board listed 22 openings and no banking internship. The summer 2028 Summer Analyst posting is expected in January 2027, and it closes within weeks.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each Stephens skill maps to a remote Externship that leaves you with a finished project to discuss in interviews.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Valuation and financial analysis | Banking posting: "detailed financial analysis for various types of transactions" | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis and Private Company Valuation |
| Modeling and securities analysis | Wealth management: "individual equity and bond analysis" | Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling |
| Industry research and pitch materials | Banking posting: "quantitative and qualitative industry research and analysis" | Mangusta Capital Deal Sourcing & Startup Analysis |
| Company analysis for a client audience | Program page: "communicating with clients and senior-level executives" | HP Tech Ventures Deal Sourcing & Startup Analysis |
The valuation and modeling matches are the closest to the banking work. None of these is an insurance program, so for that track lean on the analysis and presentation pieces.
What Is the Stephens Application and Interview Process Like?
Stephens describes its banking process on the Summer Analyst page; applicants filled in the timing.
1. Fall info sessions. Stephens holds on-campus and virtual sessions in the fall and emails updates to its list.
2. Apply in January. You pick first and second office preferences; Stephens says it usually won't disclose which offices are hiring until the posting goes up.
3. Virtual rounds. "Several virtual interviews," technical, behavioral or both. A 2026 applicant described a phone screen, then a second round for Atlanta (community-reported on Wall Street Oasis).
4. Superday. An in-person superday in the office you're interviewing for. Little Rock superday invites went out in early February 2026, per the same thread.
5. Wealth management differs. Applications in August and September, interviews from September, and a final virtual interview with the department's leadership.
Think about the office first: Stephens tells applicants to consider "which location you want to be in long-term." Our investment banking internships 2028 guide covers technical prep.
What the Community Says
First-hand Stephens discussion is thin on Reddit, so one card comes from a Wall Street Oasis thread by summer 2027 banking applicants.
Summer 2027 applicants for the Atlanta office compared notes in February 2026: a phone screen, then a second round, while the Little Rock office was already sending superday invites.
Asked what Stephens banking is like, one commenter said the hours are lighter than at the biggest banks but still around 80 a week, and called it a very down-to-earth firm.
In a thread comparing regional middle-market banks, a student weighing Stephens said they had heard the hours were especially tough in the Atlanta office.
How Do You Stand Out for a Stephens Internship?
Three moves. First, treat banking as a January application. Most students start looking in the fall of junior year, which is a full cycle late at Stephens. Join the email list now and set a reminder for the last week of December 2026. Second, have a reason for your office. Stephens asks for two geographic preferences and tells applicants to think long term, so be ready to explain why Little Rock, Dallas, Atlanta or New York. Third, show the listed work. Build a short comparable-companies analysis and a one-page company profile, since the posting names financial analysis, pitch books and industry research. For wealth management, start SIE prep early, because finishing the exam is part of the program. Stephens publishes no class size, acceptance rate or conversion rate.

What Other Companies Should You Consider?

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2027 Stephens internship?
Only for insurance. The 2027 Stephens Insurance Summer Intern posting in Little Rock was live on November 1, 2026. The summer 2027 banking window ran January 12 to February 21, 2026 (tracker-reported), and the wealth management window, which Stephens says closes toward the end of September, has passed and its posting is off the board. The next banking cycle is summer 2028, expected to open in January 2027.
When do Stephens internship applications open for summer 2028?
Banking is expected in early to late January 2027. Stephens' own page says applications "open in early January and close towards the end of January," and Trackr expects mid-January. Wealth management for summer 2028 is expected from the first business day of August 2027 to late September. Both are projections from Stephens' stated pattern.
Does Stephens hire interns on a rolling basis?
Not for banking. Stephens describes a window that opens in early January and closes toward the end of January, and last cycle's posting was tracked closing on February 21, 2026. Wealth management runs August to late September. Apply in the first days of either window.
What internship programs does Stephens offer in the US?
Three: the 10-week Investment Banking Summer Analyst Program, a generalist role in offices such as Atlanta, Dallas, Little Rock and New York; the Private Wealth Management Summer Internship in Little Rock, Fayetteville and Memphis; and the 10-week Stephens Insurance Summer Internship in Little Rock. A separate banking internship runs in Frankfurt.
How much do Stephens interns get paid?
Banking summer analysts were offered "$3,000 Semi-Monthly" on both the summer 2026 and summer 2027 postings, about $6,000 a month. Over 10 weeks that's roughly $15,000 by our arithmetic. Stephens doesn't publish pay for the wealth management or insurance internships.
What is the Stephens summer analyst interview process like?
Stephens says it runs several virtual interviews, technical, behavioral or both, followed by an in-person superday in the office you're interviewing for. In 2026, applicants on Wall Street Oasis described a phone screen, then a second round, with Little Rock superday invites going out in early February (community-reported).
Do Stephens interns get full-time offers?
Some do. Stephens says "strong performing interns may have the opportunity to become full-time employees" in banking, and wealth management interns get priority for the two-year analyst program the following year. Stephens doesn't publish a conversion rate.
Do I need a target school to get a Stephens internship?
No. Stephens says it may visit only a limited number of schools each year, but "anyone is welcome to apply." A 2026 Wall Street Oasis thread on the Atlanta summer analyst process was started by a non-target student from the Southeast who reached a second round (community-reported).
Stephens' banking window for summer 2028 is expected in January 2027 and stays open only a few weeks. Use the time before it: a remote Externship gives you finished valuation or company analysis work to bring to that application.
