Last updated: October 2026
Stantec's US summer 2027 internships are posted, and the list is still growing. On 3 October 2026 its own recruiting board carried 89 US intern and co-op postings covering 123 office locations in 29 states and DC, up from 73 five days earlier, from "Civil Engineering Intern - Water (Summer 2027)" in Charleston to "Data Science Intern - Infrastructure (Summer 2027)" in Orlando. None states a deadline. In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027, and if you can take a semester, 11 spring 2027 or co-op postings are open too.
Stantec is a design, engineering and environmental consulting firm that says it has 34,000 employees in 450+ locations and started "as a one-person firm in Edmonton, Canada." Every US posting that shows pay lists the same band: $23.47 to $34.50 an hour.

Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most often over 8 weeks. They sit alongside a Stantec application, not in place of one: the ARCEH Children's Environmental Health Analytics Externship builds the environmental data work behind Stantec's water and environmental postings, and the Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis Externship builds the Excel modeling that 57 of its postings ask for. What Is a Stantec Internship?
A Stantec internship is a paid, hourly placement in one of Stantec's US offices, working on water, buildings, transportation, energy or community development projects. Interns help with calculations, reports and CAD or BIM drawings, and many join site visits; a Minnesota community development posting says "most of your time will be spent working outside on construction activities."
There's no single national program. Each office posts its own role, and the title names the business line and the term, such as "Mechanical Engineering Intern/Co-op - Buildings (Summer 2027)." Stantec's student page also lists its Developing Professionals Group, accreditation training and scholarships.

When Do Stantec Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Stantec's US offices started posting in August, with a New York spring 2027 co-op on 3 August 2026, and the bulk followed from 1 September. Posting hasn't stopped: 16 more went up between 29 September and 2 October, including process engineering in Burlington, data science in Orlando and a batch of water roles in Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee. That's about eight to ten months before a May or June 2027 start.
We can't date last cycle's postings from Stantec's system, but archived copies show summer 2026 postings still live from December 2025 to April 2026, and one applicant reported interviewing in late December. So expect a long tail of interviews and late additions.
Applications are open right now: 77 summer 2027 postings, plus 11 spring 2027, spring/summer or co-op postings for students who can take a semester. Offices are still adding roles, so a search today won't show everything that will post this fall.
The rest of the fall wave is expected to land and applications get reviewed office by office. Apply to new postings in the first week they appear, since each office fills its own seats.
Interviews and offers expected, based on last cycle: an applicant interviewed in late December 2025 for a summer 2026 mechanical internship. Spring 2027 co-ops start in January.
Late summer postings are possible: archived summer 2026 postings were still live in March and April 2026 in offices such as South Burlington, Madison and Jackson.
The internship itself, starting in May or June in the office that hired you, mostly on site with field visits. Applications for summer 2028 are expected to start posting in August to September 2027.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
No US Stantec posting has a closing date, so this is a rolling process. The reason to move early is volume and structure: each posting is one office's role, often a single seat, and 69 of the first 73 went up in September, which means most offices are reading applications right now.
One posting can cover several offices; 19 list secondary locations, such as a Minneapolis civil role that also covers Plymouth, Woodbury, Rochester and St. Cloud. Apply once to that posting and say which office you prefer, rather than waiting for a separate listing that may never appear.
Which Stantec Internship Programs Should You Target?
Stantec's US postings are organized by business line, and the title tells you which. These are the main groups live on 3 October 2026:
| Business line | Typical roles | Terms | Example offices |
|---|---|---|---|
| Water | Civil, geotechnical, structural, process/chemical, mechanical and electrical engineering for treatment plants, pipelines and stormwater | Summer 2027; one spring/summer co-op | Nashville, Chattanooga, Charlotte, Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, South Burlington |
| Buildings | Mechanical, electrical, lighting, fire protection, commissioning, technology and process engineering; Revit design | Summer 2027; spring 2027 co-ops in Richmond | New York, Chicago, Washington DC, Rochester, Butler PA, Boston, Denver |
| Infrastructure and Transportation | Roadway, bridge, transportation planning, structural, digital practice, data science, project coordination | Summer 2027; spring and spring/summer co-ops | New York, Albany, Rochelle Park NJ, Raleigh, Houston, Plano, Austin, Atlanta |
| Energy & Resources | Hydro and dams, renewable energy civil, engineering support | Summer 2027 | Denver, San Diego, Irvine, Chicago, Minneapolis |
| Community Development and Environmental | Site civil, construction management, construction observation; environmental services | Summer 2027; one part-time school-year role | Minneapolis, St. Cloud, Columbus, Mequon, Des Moines, Okemos |
Two title traps: "Intern Architect" is Stantec's name for an entry-level, pre-licensure architect job, and "Civil Engineer Intern (EIT)" in Naples is a full-time role for graduates. Neither is a student internship.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Most Stantec postings set light requirements. Here's what the 89 US postings say:
• Enrollment: "currently enrolled in an accredited degree program" or working toward a bachelor's; some set a class year, such as "at least their junior year" on the Texas transportation postings or incoming junior or senior standing for fire protection, and Lexington prefers a graduation date of December 2027 or later.
• GPA: a minimum 3.0 on three postings (two in Phoenix, one in Salt Lake City) and a 3.0 "preferred" on three more (Lexington, San Diego, Irvine); the rest don't state one.
• Driver's license: required on 20 postings, mostly roles with field work.
• Work authorization: none of the 89 US postings mentions visa sponsorship either way, so ask the recruiter if it applies to you.

Do You Need a 3.0 GPA for a Stantec Internship?
Only for a handful of offices. Six of 89 US postings mention GPA at all, three as a 3.0 minimum and three as a preference. Everywhere else the postings focus on coursework, software and communication.
If your GPA is below 3.0, skip the few offices that set a floor and put your effort into the many that don't, leading with CAD or Revit work and any field experience.
What Skills Does Stantec Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Across the 89 US postings, Stantec asks for the same core: communication skills, engineering calculations, field work, and drawings, with Excel and AutoCAD as the most-named tools. The business line decides the rest. Buildings postings want Revit; water and community development want Civil 3D and GIS; transportation names MicroStation and OpenRoads.
Pick the line you're applying to and make sure its main tool shows up on your resume.

How Is Demand for Engineering Interns Moving Right Now?
Mechanical engineering intern postings · Sep vs Aug 2026
vs 207 in August
Stantec is posting on the same fall clock as its biggest competitors. Apply to the Stantec offices you want now, and expect the other consultancies' fall postings to fill in the same weeks.
Daily US job-posting counts, Sep 1–30 vs Aug 1–31, 2026. Covers under half of US postings; shows direction, not market size. Pay = median of employer-published ranges only (87 postings in September, 36 in August).
Build These Skills Before You Apply
The engineering comes from coursework, but the habits around it can be practiced now:
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Environmental and water data | Water and environmental postings: calculations, reports and field data | ARCEH Children's Environmental Health Analytics |
| Connected water and building systems | Water electrical and buildings technology postings | Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense |
| Excel modeling | Excel named on 57 of 89 US postings | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis, Private Company Valuation |
None of these replaces a CAD or hydraulics course, but each ends in a finished, data-heavy project you can describe when an office asks what you've done outside class.
What Is the Stantec Application and Interview Process Like?
Stantec doesn't publish an intern interview process. This is the path its job site and community reports describe:
1. Search the US internship campaign on stantec.jobs and read each posting's location block: one posting can cover up to five offices, and the site shows it once per city.
2. Apply on Stantec's Oracle site to each office and business line you want; tailor your resume to the line in the title.
3. Interview with the office. Community reports describe office-level interviews, with some held as late as December for the following summer.
4. Wait, and follow up. One applicant who interviewed in late December 2025 still hadn't heard back two months later, so a polite check-in with the recruiter is reasonable.
5. Offer. Interns are hired as hourly, limited-benefits staff and start in their posting's term: spring 2027 co-ops in January, summer interns in May or June.
Since each office hires for itself, a short note on why that office's projects interest you, whether treatment plants, bridges or building systems, helps more than a generic cover letter.
What Students on Reddit Say
Reddit has a few first-hand Stantec intern threads, mostly about timing and how much the experience depends on the office.
An applicant interviewed in late December for a Stantec summer mechanical internship and, two months later, still hadn't heard anything, so expect a slow process and plan to follow up.
A current Stantec environmental engineering intern answered a question about starting there with a short verdict: they really liked it.
Asked by a student hoping to intern there, a seven-year employee said the experience depends on the office and business center, and others added that an office's culture often reflects the firm Stantec acquired there.
How Do You Stand Out for a Stantec Internship?
Stantec doesn't publish applicant numbers or an intern class size, so we won't guess at the odds. Three moves fit how it hires:
1. Match the business line. The title tells you whether it's Water, Buildings or Infrastructure. Name that line's tool (Revit, Civil 3D, MicroStation) and one relevant class project.
2. Consider a spring co-op. Eleven spring 2027, spring/summer or co-op postings are open in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, North Carolina and DC. If your school allows a semester away, the field is smaller.
3. Use the multi-office postings. When one posting lists several offices, say which you prefer and why. It shows you read the posting and makes placement easier.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Stantec internship?
No. Summer 2026 internships have ended, but Stantec's summer 2027 postings are open now: 77 in the US on 3 October 2026, plus 11 spring 2027, spring/summer or co-op postings and one part-time role. None has a deadline, and offices are still adding postings this month.
When do Stantec summer 2027 internships open?
They're open now. US offices posted from 3 August 2026, most in September, and 16 more went up between 29 September and 2 October. Last cycle, some summer postings stayed live into April, so late additions are likely, but most offices are reviewing applications this fall.
How much do Stantec interns get paid?
Every US posting that shows pay lists the same range: $23.47 to $34.50 an hour. That's 42 of the 89 postings, in states with pay-transparency laws such as New York, Illinois, Colorado and California. Postings elsewhere don't show a range, and Stantec doesn't publish city-specific intern rates.
Does Stantec offer spring internships or co-ops in the US?
Yes. Eleven live US postings are spring 2027, spring/summer 2027 or a fall 2026 to spring 2027 co-op, in New York City, Albany, Rochester, Rochelle Park NJ, Richmond, Cincinnati, Louisville, Raleigh and Washington DC. Spring co-ops typically start in January, so they're the nearest open start date.
Where are Stantec internships located?
In 29 states plus DC, across 123 office locations. The most postings are in New York (11), Tennessee and Texas (7 each), North Carolina and Ohio (6 each) and Minnesota (5). Almost all are on site; one Digital Practice role in Washington DC is listed as remote.
Does Stantec require a minimum GPA for interns?
Only a few postings do. Three set a minimum 3.0 GPA (two in Phoenix and one in Salt Lake City), and three more, in Lexington, San Diego and Irvine, say a 3.0 is preferred. The other 83 US postings don't mention GPA, so focus on the offices without a stated floor.
Is Stantec's Intern Architect role an internship?
No. Intern Architect is the title for an entry-level, pre-licensure architect role for graduates, and the Civil Engineer Intern (EIT) posting in Naples is a full-time role for engineers in training. Students should look for titles that name a term, such as Summer 2027 or Spring 2027.
Does Stantec hire interns full-time?
Stantec doesn't publish a conversion rate. One New England water posting says interns have the opportunity to convert to longer-term employment, and the student page points to its Developing Professionals Group for early-career staff. Ask the hiring office how many of its recent interns came back.
Stantec's postings are open now and offices are still adding roles, so apply this month, then use the weeks before interviews to finish one project you can talk through: a remote Externship gives you that.
