Last updated: October 2026
On 3 October 2026 WSP's own careers board listed 144 live US internship and co-op postings, and 134 of them are for summer 2027. WSP posts them one office and one discipline at a time, so the same title, such as "Mechanical Engineering Intern - Summer 2027", appears separately for six different cities. The first went up on 7 August 2026 and new ones were still appearing in October. In plain words: you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027. The standard posting describes a "12-week program scheduled to start on May 17th, 2027."
WSP USA is the former Parsons Brinckerhoff, the New York engineering firm founded in 1885 and acquired by WSP in 2014. WSP says it has 27,000 people in 300 US offices, pairs every intern with a dedicated mentor, and pays interns by the hour: $19.00 to $32.22 on the 75 postings that publish a range.

Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most often over 8 weeks. Do one alongside your WSP applications, not instead of them: the Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense Externship works on connected water-infrastructure systems close to WSP's power and water practices, and the Arceh Children's Environmental Health Analytics Externship builds the environmental data skills Earth & Environment interns use. What Is a WSP Internship?
A WSP internship is a paid, 12-week, full-time summer placement in one of WSP USA's offices, where you join a project team and work with a dedicated mentor. Interns support design calculations, drawings, cost estimates and field work across power and energy, buildings, transportation, water and environmental practices, and join WSP's Developing Professionals Network for leadership panels and technical sessions.
The postings say WSP USA "hosts hundreds of internships across the United States." Power and Energy is the biggest intern employer this cycle: 36 of the 144 live postings name it as the hiring team, mostly for substation, transmission line and distribution design.

When Do WSP Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
WSP's summer wave opens in August and builds through the fall. The first summer 2027 posting went up on 7 August 2026, most of the rest followed in September, and new ones were still appearing on 1 and 2 October. Last cycle had the same shape: a summer 2026 electrical posting went up on 11 August 2025, and university job boards showed WSP still adding summer 2026 postings in March 2026. That puts the front edge about nine months before a mid-May start and the late edge about two months before it.
WSP also has a few nearer doors. Five spring 2027 postings are open (mostly part-time semester internships, plus a Boston structural co-op), along with three split-term 2027 roles and two fall 2026 roles.
Applications for summer 2027 are open right now: 134 summer postings across WSP's US offices, and none of them has a deadline. Pick your offices and disciplines and apply this month, because seats fill office by office.
Rolling reviews and interviews for summer 2027. In the summer 2025 cycle one office told applicants it aimed to finish interviews by the end of October, while other students heard back in December or February.
Late-posting offices are expected to add summer 2027 roles, as they did through March 2026 last cycle. Spring 2027 part-time interns start their semester roles.
The summer 2027 program is scheduled to start, per the standard posting. Individual start dates can flex, and a few postings name 18 or 24 May.
Twelve weeks on a project team with a mentor, ending in early August. Applications for summer 2028 are expected to open around August 2027 if the calendar repeats.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
WSP's window is rolling, and that cuts both ways. There's no deadline to miss, but there's also no date that holds a seat for you: each posting belongs to one office, and it comes down once that office has filled it. WSP's FAQ recommends "applying early, as our positions are highly competitive and fill quickly."
Community reports point the same way. In the summer 2025 cycle, an electrical student who applied in August was shortlisted after a video interview and told the office aimed to finish interviews by the end of October, while a friend who applied in November heard back in February. Apply in October to every office you'd actually work in.
Which WSP Internship Programs Should You Target?
Every WSP internship is a posting for one office and one discipline, grouped under WSP USA's business lines. These are the tracks on the board on 3 October 2026:
| Track | Focus | Term | On the board, 3 Oct 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power and Energy | Substation, transmission line, distribution and generation design | 12 weeks, summer 2027 | Largest group: 36 postings name the team |
| Property & Buildings | Mechanical, electrical, structural, MEP, lighting, fire and life safety | 12 weeks, summer 2027 | About 15 postings, from Boston to Denver |
| Transportation & Infrastructure | Civil, roadway, traffic, bridge, transit and construction management | 12 weeks, summer 2027 | Civil is the most common title word (36 postings) |
| Earth & Environment and Water | Geotechnical, geology, environmental science and water resources | 12 weeks, summer 2027 | About 16 postings, including Southeast Water |
| Off-cycle roles | Part-time semester internships, a Boston co-op, split-term roles | Spring 2027, split-term 2027, fall 2026 | 5 spring, 3 split-term, 2 fall |
Search the WSP job board with "internship" and filter to the US. At least two real internships are titled without the word "Intern", so also search by discipline.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
WSP's postings share one qualifications block, and three lines in it decide most applications:
• Enrollment: WSP's FAQ opens the program to "currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students in the United States"; each posting names the discipline.
• Graduation date: 95 of 144 postings require an anticipated graduation of August 2027 or later, and most others December 2027 or May 2028. A senior graduating in May 2027 misses most summer postings.
• Work authorization: 143 of 144 postings require authorization to work in the US at the start of the internship. WSP's FAQ says it "does not provide visa sponsorship for interns"; CPT or OPT with a valid EAD is accepted.
• Age and GPA: you must be 18 or older. No posting states a GPA floor.
• Housing: 141 of 144 postings say there's no relocation or housing assistance, so apply where you can live.

Is the Graduation Date a Hard Cutoff?
Treat it as one. It sits under Required Qualifications, not Preferred, and it's there because WSP wants interns who are still students after the summer. If you graduate in May 2027, look at WSP's full-time Early Career engineer postings that start in summer 2027 instead.
The softer lines are the preferred ones: prior internships, campus leadership, and for some power postings, a scheduled or passed FE/EIT exam.
What Skills Does WSP Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Almost every posting uses one template, so the required skills barely change between offices: communication with engineers and non-engineers, basic technical writing and spreadsheets, taking direction from mentors, and a clean safety record. The duty list adds design calculations, cost estimates and field work.
Software is where postings differ. AutoCAD appears most often, then MicroStation and OpenRoads or InRoads for transportation work, and Revit for buildings.

Method: full-text read of all 144 live US intern and co-op postings via WSP's Oracle Recruiting API, 3 Oct 2026. Most postings share one template, so the top rows count how many postings carry a line rather than 144 independent judgments; software counts vary by discipline (OpenRoads or InRoads 20, Revit 16).
How Is Demand for Engineering Interns Moving Right Now?

vs 207 in August
WSP's postings landed in the same September surge as its design-firm rivals, so the students you're up against are applying now. Apply to WSP and its peers this month.
Daily US job-posting counts, Sep 1–30 vs Aug 1–31, 2026. Covers under half of US postings; shows direction, not market size. Pay = median of employer-published ranges only (87 postings in September, 36 in August).
Build These Skills Before You Apply
None of these is an engineering design project, but each trains something WSP's postings ask for:
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Infrastructure systems (power, water) | "Work closely with experienced engineers on all aspects of utility substation design" (Power and Energy postings) | Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense |
| Environmental data and project documentation | "Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation" | Arceh Children's Environmental Health Analytics |
| Spreadsheets and structured data | "Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets" | Breaking Games SQL Database Architecture |
Pair one with a course project you can explain line by line, such as a design calculation or a drawing set, and you'll have two concrete examples for the interview.
What Is the WSP Application and Interview Process Like?
WSP doesn't publish an intern interview guide. This is the path its postings and community reports describe:
1. Pick your offices and disciplines. Each office posts its own requisition, and you can apply to more than one.
2. Apply on WSP's Oracle careers site. Watch your status there: one 2026 applicant saw a rejection only on the job site, with no email.
3. Screen. Community reports describe recruiter screening questions by email or phone, and sometimes a pre-recorded video interview.
4. Hiring-manager interview. A WSP reviewer on Reddit says HR sends the team a PDF of resumes and they pick a few to interview, usually on Teams.
5. Offer. Offers come office by office from fall into spring; one student got WSP interview invitations in December for the following summer.
Expect questions about your coursework, why that discipline and why that office. Know one or two projects the office works on before the call.
What Students on Reddit Say
WSP threads are mostly about timing and process, including one from a WSP reviewer.
An electrical student applied in August, did a video interview and was shortlisted, then was still waiting in late October while the office said it aimed to finish interviews by month end. A commenter's friend who applied in November heard back in February.
A WSP reviewer says that for internships HR sends a PDF with every resume and the team picks a few to interview, and that adaptability counts for more than resume design. Another applicant describes screening questions, a manager interview on Teams, and a rejection visible only on the job site.
A former traffic intern got a full-time offer at the end of the internship and says WSP tends to treat internships as trial runs. Other commenters say the experience depends a lot on your team, and that WSP's big new-hire events help you build an internal network.
How Do You Stand Out for a WSP Internship?
WSP doesn't publish applicant numbers or a conversion rate, so we won't guess at the odds. Three moves line up with what the postings ask for:
1. Apply to the office, not the company. The same title is posted separately for different cities, and each office reviews its own pile. Apply to every office you'd genuinely work in, and say why that office in your answers.
2. Match the software line. AutoCAD appears in 49 of 144 postings, MicroStation in 25, OpenRoads or InRoads in 20 and Revit in 16. Put the ones you know on your resume's skills line, and mention the FE exam if you've scheduled it.
3. Look hard at Power and Energy. It's the largest intern employer this cycle, with 36 postings for substation, transmission and distribution work. Electrical students who take a power systems course before applying have a direct story to tell.

What Other Companies Should You Consider?
WSP applicants usually also apply to other large design and engineering consultancies:

- Jacobsinfrastructure and water consultancy recruiting the same civil studentsGuide →
- Burns & McDonnellemployee-owned engineering firm and a direct rival to WSP's power practiceGuide →

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 WSP internship?
No. WSP's summer 2026 program has ended, but summer 2027 applications are open now: 134 summer 2027 postings were live on 3 October 2026, with no deadline on any of them. If you can work during the school year, five spring 2027 postings and two fall 2026 roles are open too.
When should I apply for a WSP summer 2027 internship?
Now, in October 2026. The first summer 2027 posting went up on 7 August 2026 and most followed in September. Each posting stays up until its office fills the seat, and some offices keep posting into early 2027, but early applicants reach the most open seats.
How much do WSP interns get paid?
WSP's postings that publish pay list hourly ranges from $19.00 to $32.22. The most common bands are $19 to $30 and $23.90 to $31.11. Pay depends on location and discipline, only 75 of the 144 live postings publish a range, and there's no relocation or housing assistance.
How long is the WSP internship and when does it start?
The WSP Summer Internship Program runs 12 weeks, full time. The standard summer 2027 posting says it's scheduled to start on 17 May 2027, and individual start dates can flex; a few postings name 18 or 24 May. That puts the end of the program in early August 2027.
Does WSP sponsor visas for interns?
No. WSP's internship FAQ says it doesn't provide visa sponsorship for interns, and 143 of the 144 live postings require authorization to work in the US at the start of the internship. Students on F-1 CPT or OPT with a valid EAD can apply, according to the same FAQ.
Can seniors graduating in May 2027 apply?
Mostly no. Most summer 2027 postings require an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later, so a May 2027 graduate doesn't meet the required qualifications. Look instead at WSP's full-time Early Career engineer postings that start in summer 2027, which sit on the same job board.
Which disciplines does WSP hire interns in?
Civil and electrical engineering lead, with substation, transmission and distribution roles in the Power and Energy team, followed by structural and mechanical. WSP also posts geotechnical, geology, environmental, water resources, transportation, traffic, bridge, lighting, fire and life safety, and construction management internships.
Is WSP the same as Parsons Brinckerhoff?
Yes. WSP acquired Parsons Brinckerhoff, the New York engineering firm founded in 1885, in 2014, and the US business has operated as WSP USA since 2017. It's a different company from Parsons Corporation, which runs its own internship program and hiring process.
WSP's summer 2027 seats fill office by office this fall, so apply now, then use the weeks before interviews to finish one project you can talk through: a remote Externship gives you that.
