Tetra Tech doesn't run one internship wave. Its careers FAQ says "each office handles its own recruitment needs", and last cycle its US offices posted intern roles in every month from August 2025 to July 2026, with 60 of 112 going up between December and April. On 3 October 2026 nine US intern postings from this fall were live on its own careers site, two of them for a May or June 2027 start, while one posted in mid-September had already closed. In plain words: you apply from fall 2026 through spring 2027, you intern in summer 2027.
Tetra Tech is a Pasadena-based engineering and consulting firm, working since 1966, that calls itself a leader in water, environment and sustainable infrastructure, with 25,000+ employees and about 500 offices. Where its intern postings publish pay, it runs $20 to $28 an hour.

A few offices are hiring for summer 2027 now; most are expected to post between December 2026 and April 2027. There's no deadline, but postings can close within days, so set an alert and check monthly.
Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most often over 8 weeks. They fit the long gap before most Tetra Tech offices post: the ARCEH Children's Environmental Health Analytics Externship builds the environmental data work behind remediation and monitoring projects, and the Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense Externship covers connected water systems, close to Tetra Tech's water and SCADA work. What Is a Tetra Tech Internship?
A Tetra Tech internship is a paid placement in one of the firm's local offices, supporting engineers and scientists on water, environmental, transportation or infrastructure projects. Interns compile field data, help with design calculations and drawings, draft report sections and join site visits; lab interns run soil tests.
There's no national intern class or program page. Each office writes its own posting, which is why one office in Denver offers a "3-4 months" summer internship on dams while an Ardaman geotechnical office in Florida hires an engineering assistant "available immediately" with flexible student hours. Ardaman & Associates is a Tetra Tech company and posts on the same careers site.

When Do Tetra Tech Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
We read the posting date of every closed Tetra Tech intern listing we could find from the last cycle. US offices posted 112 intern roles between August 2025 and July 2026: 31 from August to October, 33 from November to February and 48 from March to July. The busiest months were September and March (18 each) and April (13). That's a lead time of about nine months for a September posting and only two to three months for one posted in March or April.
This cycle has started the same way. Since late August, offices in New York, Wisconsin, Colorado, Texas, Ohio, Michigan and Florida have posted internships, two of them explicitly for a May or June 2027 start, plus a spring 2027 lab role in Green Bay.
Applications for summer 2027 are open in a handful of offices: environmental and civil in New York and Wisconsin, dams and water resources in Denver, electrical in Orlando, transportation in Ohio and Michigan, and a Texas career-fair pool. Most offices haven't posted yet, and a Lafayette SCADA posting has already closed.
Fall career fairs, and quiet posting months last cycle (5 postings in October, 4 in November). Set a job alert on the careers site for the offices near you.
The main posting period for summer 2027 is expected here: last cycle 60 of 112 US intern postings went up from December to April. Postings close when filled, so apply in the first week an office posts.
Late additions are expected (17 postings came in May to July 2026), and summer interns start in May or June, as the 2027 postings already say.
The internship itself, in the office that hired you, usually with field visits; the Denver posting describes 3 to 4 months. Applications for summer 2028 are expected to follow the same year-round spread.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
No Tetra Tech intern posting states a deadline, so this is a rolling process, but rolling here doesn't mean slow. A SCADA engineering intern posting in Lafayette went up on 14 September 2026 and had closed by 3 October. An Ardaman engineering assistant role in Orlando posted in late September closed within about ten days.
Because each office hires for its own needs, there's often one seat per posting. Pick the offices you'd commute to, set alerts for them, and apply the week a posting appears, whether that's this month or next March.
Which Tetra Tech Internship Programs Should You Target?
With no central program, the best way to see what Tetra Tech offers is by the kinds of roles its offices post. These are the types live or recently posted:
| Internship type | Focus | Term | Where posted now |
|---|---|---|---|
| Environmental / civil engineering | Solid waste design and remediation; field data, report support, proposals | Start May or June 2027 | Goshen or Rochester, NY; Madison, WI |
| Civil, water resources or geotechnical | Dams and water resources; field work, data analysis, drawings and reports | Summer, 3 to 4 months | Denver, CO |
| Transportation and roadway design | Roadway, drainage, signal and pavement-marking plans; MicroStation, OpenRoads, Civil 3D | Co-op or summer (check the posting's term) | Toledo, OH; Brighton, MI; Texas career-fair pool |
| Electrical engineering | Power distribution, one-line diagrams and control schematics for water and wastewater plants | Not stated | Orlando, FL |
| Lab and field tech; engineering assistant | Soil, aggregate, concrete and asphalt testing; data entry; flexible hours | Spring 2027 or available immediately | Green Bay, WI; Fort Myers and Tallahassee, FL (Ardaman) |
The Toledo transportation posting is titled "Spring and Summer 2027" but its description says fall 2026 co-op, so confirm the term before you apply. Veterans in their last 180 days of service can also apply to Tetra Tech's DoD SkillBridge internship, which is separate from the student roles.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Each office sets its own requirements. Here's what the live postings say:
• Class year: "sophomore level or above" (New York and Wisconsin environmental); "upper-level college student, recent graduate, or graduate student" (Denver); "currently enrolled" in a civil or related bachelor's program (Toledo, Brighton, Fort Myers, Tallahassee).
• Major: civil or environmental engineering, geology, hydrogeology or environmental science for the environmental roles; civil for transportation and water; electrical for the Orlando role; civil, materials or environmental science for the Ardaman assistant roles.
• Work authorization: three postings (the New York, Madison and Green Bay ones) say Tetra Tech can't sponsor any visa, "including F-1, J-1, OPT, CPT". The others don't mention it, so ask the office.
• Other: a valid driver's license on 4 of the 10 student postings; no posting states a GPA.

Is There a GPA Cutoff for Tetra Tech Internships?
None of the live postings states one. The only GPA report we found is a single Reddit comment from someone who says Tetra Tech turned them down over a sub-3.0 GPA for a full-time role years after graduating, which says little about internships.
What the postings do stress is practical: written and verbal communication, Microsoft Office, and comfort with field work. Lead with those.
What Skills Does Tetra Tech Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Across the ten live student postings, three things repeat: field work (sampling, site visits, soil testing), documentation (report sections, specifications, drawings, data logs) and communication. Software depends on the office. Transportation offices name MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD and Civil 3D; the Orlando electrical role names power-system tools; the geotechnical roles want Excel and careful data entry.
So the right preparation is office-specific. Read the posting closest to you and match its tools.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each of those skills can be practiced before an office posts:
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Environmental field and lab data | "Collect and compile field data"; "Compile data for project reports" | ARCEH Children's Environmental Health Analytics |
| Water and SCADA systems | "design of electrical systems for water, wastewater, and infrastructure facilities" | Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense |
| Organizing project and lab data | "Enter, organize, and summarize field and laboratory data" | Breaking Games SQL Database Architecture |
None of these replaces a CAD course or a soils lab, but each gives you a finished, data-heavy project to point to when an office asks what you've done outside class.
What Is the Tetra Tech Application and Interview Process Like?
Tetra Tech doesn't publish a central interview process for interns, since each office runs its own. This is the path its careers site and postings describe:
1. Search by location, not just keyword. Use "internship" on the careers site and filter to your state; a bare "intern" search is swamped by "international" and "internal" roles.
2. Set job alerts. The site offers alerts by keyword and location; that's how you catch the December-to-April postings.
3. Apply to the office's posting, and to your school's career-fair pool if one exists. Tetra Tech posts pools for specific campus fairs that recruit interns and entry-level engineers together.
4. Interview with the office. Expect a conversation with the local team about your coursework, field experience and software; the posting's tool list is your best guide.
5. Offer. Start dates are set per office; the 2027 environmental postings ask for a May or June start.
Because hiring is local, a short note to the office explaining why you want that office's work, whether landfills, dams or roadways, goes further than a generic cover letter.
What Students on Reddit Say
Reddit threads about Tetra Tech internships are few, but they agree on one point: the experience depends on the office.
A student was still applying for a Tetra Tech summer environmental internship in April, which fits an employer whose offices post late. A reply warned that Tetra Tech once declined them over a GPA under 3.0, though that was a full-time role years after college.
A former three-month Tetra Tech intern said they often had to go ask other teams for work, and weighed that against the name of a large firm when deciding where to intern next.
Asked about utilization targets and time-off rules, commenters said policies and culture vary by region and office, and that no firm this size feels the same everywhere.
How Do You Stand Out for a Tetra Tech Internship?
Tetra Tech doesn't publish applicant numbers or a class size, so we won't guess at the odds. Three moves fit how it hires:
1. Treat each office as its own employer. Find the two or three offices you can reach, learn what they work on, and apply the week they post.
2. Match the posting's tools. Transportation offices name MicroStation, OpenRoads and Civil 3D; geotechnical offices want Excel and lab care. A small project in the right tool beats a long list of software you've only opened once.
3. Show you're comfortable in the field. Every live posting involves field or site work. Mention sampling, surveying or lab courses, and say you have a driver's license if you do.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Tetra Tech internship?
No. Summer 2026 internships have finished. Summer 2027 roles are open in a few offices now, including New York, Wisconsin, Denver, Orlando, Ohio and Michigan, and Ardaman's Florida offices hire engineering assistants on flexible hours year-round. Most summer 2027 postings are expected between December 2026 and April 2027.
When does Tetra Tech post summer internships?
Office by office, across the year. Last cycle US offices posted 112 intern roles between August 2025 and July 2026, with 60 of them from December to April and the busiest months in September and March. So apply now where an office is posting, and keep checking through spring 2027.
Is there a deadline for Tetra Tech internships?
No posting states one; roles close when they're filled. That can be fast. A SCADA engineering intern posting from 14 September 2026 had closed by 3 October, and an Orlando engineering assistant role closed within about ten days. Apply the week a posting appears in your area.
How much do Tetra Tech interns get paid?
Where Tetra Tech publishes pay, it's $20 to $22 an hour for the environmental and civil internship in Goshen or Rochester, New York, and $22 to $28 an hour, depending on education level, for the Denver water resources internship. The other live postings don't state pay.
Does Tetra Tech sponsor visas for interns?
Some postings say no. The New York, Madison and Green Bay postings state Tetra Tech can't sponsor any employment visa now or in the future, including F-1 OPT and CPT. Other offices' postings don't mention sponsorship, so ask the recruiter before you invest time in an application.
What kinds of internships does Tetra Tech offer?
Civil, environmental and water resources engineering, transportation and roadway design, geotechnical lab and field work, and electrical engineering for water and wastewater plants. Each is posted by a local office, so the mix changes by city. Ardaman, a Tetra Tech company in Florida, hires engineering assistants.
Does Tetra Tech hire interns full-time?
It doesn't publish a conversion rate. Its campus career-fair postings recruit interns and entry-level engineers from one pool, and the unit that posted the 2027 environmental internships also posted an entry-level engineer role starting June 2027, so the pipeline exists office by office.
Why does searching intern on Tetra Tech's site show hundreds of jobs?
The keyword matches "international" and "internal", so a plain intern search returns about 900 results. Search "internship" instead and filter by location. On 3 October 2026 there were only 11 real US intern postings, including two standing roles, so scan titles and locations rather than trusting the result count.
Most Tetra Tech offices won't post summer 2027 roles until winter or spring, so set your alerts now and use the gap to finish one project you can talk through: a remote Externship gives you that.
