GHD's US internships are open now, one office at a time. The employee-owned engineering, environmental and advisory consultancy had 22 intern postings live on its own recruiting site on October 26, 2026, posted between August 31 and October 23 across eight states. Where GHD prints a rate it's $20 to $28 an hour, which covers 11 of the 22 postings. Fifteen postings say "this upcoming summer" without a year, so we're assuming summer 2027. In plain words: you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027, and no posting gives a deadline.

Return offersNot published. The 27 US postings titled "Graduate" are full-time hires for people who have finished a degree, and no internship posting links to them
LocationsNew York 7 (Buffalo, Syracuse), Pennsylvania 6 (King of Prussia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg), Florida 3 (Orlando, Tampa), Maryland 2 (Bowie), and one each in California (San Luis Obispo), South Carolina (Bluffton), Georgia (Atlanta) and Massachusetts (Hyannis)
# ProgramsNo branded US program: 22 office-level postings across 6 tracks (water, civil/structural/geotechnical, environmental, electrical, mechanical and architecture, drafting and design). GHD's Australia and New Zealand summer programs are separate

The row that matters most: there's no single US internship program, so you apply to the posting for the office near you, and your degree has to match that posting.

Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most often in 8 weeks at 5 to 10 hours a week. The Hydroficient Advanced: IoT Cyber Defense Externship is the closest open match to water infrastructure work, and the ARCeH Data Analytics, Health Outcomes Externship practices environmental data analysis. What Is a GHD Internship?

A GHD internship in the US is a hands-on engineering placement in one of GHD's offices. GHD is an engineering, environmental and advisory consultancy, and on its careers page it describes itself as an employee-owned company and a global network of over 11,000 people. It isn't the hair-styling brand ghd. In the US there is no named program: each office posts its own intern roles, such as Engineering Intern (Water), Electrical Engineering Intern or Architecture Intern, and the water interns assist project engineers and project managers on water, wastewater and infrastructure projects for municipal and private clients. GHD's Australia and New Zealand summer programs and its Canadian and UK roles are outside this guide. GHD doesn't publish a class size or a conversion rate.

When Do GHD Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

GHD's US intern postings arrived over eight weeks, office by office. One went up on August 31, 2026 (Environmental Engineering, Tampa), 14 in September, mostly water, structural, mechanical, civil and drafting roles, and seven in October, from Geotechnical in Bluffton on October 5 to Civil Engineering in San Luis Obispo on October 23. The postings give no start date, so the lead time is our estimate: for a May or June start, they sit about 7 to 9 months ahead. We couldn't find last cycle's US intern postings: the archived copies of GHD's recruiting site from 2025 that we checked show only non-US or non-intern roles. The summer 2028 window is therefore a projection from one observed cycle: expect postings from late August to September 2027, with low confidence.

Apply to your nearest office now. No posting states a deadline, but each office hires for its own team, and similar titles repeat across cities (Engineering Intern (Water) appears in six). If your city has no posting yet, check the recruiting site again in November.

After you apply: GHD publishes no interview stages or timing for interns. Ask the recruiter about the start date, which the postings omit.

Late August to September 2027EXPECTED

Summer 2028 postings expected, if this fall's pattern repeats. We observed one cycle only, so treat this as low confidence.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

GHD hires one office at a time, and that's the case for applying early. Each posting is a single opening on a single team, with no stated deadline, and similar titles repeat across cities, so nothing tells you how long yours stays open. The postings arrived steadily from August 31 to October 23, which suggests rolling hiring, though GHD doesn't say so. If your city's posting is already up, apply now. If not, check weekly rather than waiting for the spring.

Which GHD Internship Programs Should You Target?

GHD has no single US internship program, so the table groups the 22 postings by track. Pay is printed on only half of them.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Requirements follow the track. These come from the 22 postings, which we read on October 26, 2026.

• Water and civil roles: enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in civil or environmental engineering (Atlanta and San Luis Obispo say civil only; Bluffton says geotechnical, civil or a related field).

• Electrical roles: currently enrolled in an electrical engineering bachelor's or master's program.

• Mechanical and architecture: a bachelor's in mechanical engineering (Syracuse); a bachelor's or master's in architecture (Harrisburg).

• Drafting and design roles: actively pursuing an associate's degree in drafting, design or engineering technology; the electrical/instrumentation role accepts an associate's or bachelor's.

• Skills: an understanding of engineering fundamentals, with AutoCAD "a plus" in the water and electrical postings.

• GPA, class year and work authorization: none stated.

Do You Need a Bachelor's Degree?

Not for all of them. Three drafting and design postings ask for students pursuing an associate's degree, and the Civil Design Intern posting in Buffalo says relevant experience in lieu of a degree will be considered. The engineering postings want a bachelor's or master's student. The San Luis Obispo posting says no experience is required, while the Bluffton one describes very limited work experience, 0 to 3 months.

What Skills Does GHD Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Three themes run through the 22 postings. Technical drawing: AutoCAD or CADD is named in 18, and architecture and drafting roles add Revit, Civil 3D or SketchUp. Engineering support: assisting project engineers and managers (13), cost estimates and design calculations (14), and field investigations and inspections (10). Data work: collecting and compiling data or data analysis appears in 12. Every posting describes a hybrid model with three days a week in the office, and the postings ask for engineering fundamentals rather than specific prior experience.

Build These Skills Before You Apply

Each skill below maps to a remote Externship you can finish while postings are still open. The fit is partial, because no open Externship teaches CAD.

No open Externship teaches AutoCAD, Revit or civil design, the skill most postings name. These rows cover the data, monitoring and project-delivery side, so practice drafting through coursework or a student chapter.

What Is the GHD Application and Interview Process Like?

GHD doesn't publish its internship interview stages. This is the path the postings point to.

1. Find your office. Search GHD's recruiting site for "intern" and open the posting for your city.

2. Match your degree. The posting names the major and degree level it wants.

3. Apply on the site. Each posting has its own application.

4. Ask about the gaps. The postings omit start dates, duration and work authorization, so confirm them with the recruiter.

GHD publishes no interview format, rounds or timing for interns.

What We Found on Reddit

Nothing we can use for a US internship. The GHD threads we found are from Australia or are about full-time engineers, and two others wouldn't load. We'd rather show no quotes than borrow another country's program.

How Do You Stand Out for a Consultancy Internship?

First, match the degree line in the posting exactly. Water interns need civil or environmental engineering, electrical interns need electrical, and the drafting roles take associate's degree students, so apply to the one that names your program. Second, bring drawing evidence. AutoCAD is named in 18 of 22 postings, so a course project or a student design team drawing you can talk through carries weight. Third, show field readiness: the water postings include field investigations and inspections of construction. GHD doesn't publish a class size, applicant count or conversion rate, and the Graduate roles are a separate hiring path.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 GHD internship?

No. Summer 2026 internships ran last summer and are over. The cycle open now is the one aimed at summer 2027: 22 US intern postings were live on GHD's recruiting site on October 26, 2026, posted between August 31 and October 23, and none states a deadline.

Does GHD hire interns in the US?

Yes. GHD had 22 intern-titled US postings on October 26, 2026, in New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, Maryland, California, South Carolina, Georgia and Massachusetts. There's no single program, so each office posts its own roles. GHD's Australia and New Zealand summer programs are separate.

How much do GHD interns get paid?

Where GHD prints a rate it runs $20 to $28 an hour: $26 to $28 in San Luis Obispo, $22 to $24 in nine postings, and $20 to $21 for the Environmental Risk Assessor in Syracuse. Eleven of the 22 postings print no rate, so ask the recruiter for those.

Is there a deadline for GHD internships?

No posting states one. Hiring runs office by office and the newest posting was dated October 23, 2026, so it looks rolling, though GHD doesn't say so. Apply as soon as your city's posting appears, and check the recruiting site weekly if it hasn't yet.

Which majors can apply for a GHD internship?

It depends on the posting: civil or environmental engineering for water roles, electrical engineering for electrical roles, mechanical for the Syracuse role, architecture for Harrisburg, and geotechnical or civil for Bluffton. Drafting and design roles take associate's degree students. No posting states a GPA or work authorization rule.

Is GHD the hair brand?

No. This guide covers GHD, the engineering, environmental and advisory consultancy, which describes itself as employee-owned with over 11,000 people. The hair-styling brand ghd is a separate company with its own careers page, and its jobs aren't engineering internships, so don't search its site for these roles.

Is a GHD internship the same as the Graduate program?

No. GHD's US careers pages describe a Graduate Development Program, and 27 US postings are titled Graduate, but those are full-time roles for people who have finished a degree. The 22 internship postings are for students, and none says it leads into the Graduate program.

Do GHD interns get full-time offers?

GHD doesn't publish a conversion rate or say whether interns move into its Graduate roles. The internship postings describe learning on the job and applying theory in a practical setting, with no mention of return offers. Treat any percentage you see on third-party sites as unverified.

Find your city's posting on GHD's recruiting site this week and apply with the degree the posting names. While you wait, a remote Externship gives you a finished data or analysis project to talk about in the interview.
