Last updated: October 2026
Bridgestone Americas runs its US student program as engineering co-ops, not a classic ten-week summer internship. On 3 October 2026 its US Workday careers board listed seven co-op requisitions in its Interns & Co-Ops family: four for spring 2027 and three for summer/fall 2027, in electrical, industrial and mechanical engineering, plus a spring co-op at its Akron, Ohio technology center. The headquarters and plant reqs ask you to work "40 hours weekly in a 6-month minimum co-op assignment".
In plain words: if you want to start in summer 2027, apply now for a summer/fall 2027 co-op and plan on at least six months; if you can start in January, the spring 2027 co-ops are the nearest cohort and are open too. The reqs describe Bridgestone as "the world's largest tire and rubber company", with Bridgestone and Firestone among its brands and its Americas headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee.

Bridgestone's co-op reqs ask for plant-floor engineering, from PLC programming to cost and inventory studies, so a finished project you can explain is the best preparation. Externships are short, remote programs where you complete a real project for a real company, most commonly over 8 weeks. The Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics Externship fits the industrial engineering co-ops, and the Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense Externship fits the controls side of the electrical co-ops. What Is a Bridgestone Internship?
A Bridgestone internship, in practice, is a Bridgestone Americas engineering co-op: a paid, full-time, on-site assignment of at least six months at the Nashville headquarters or a US tire plant, or a rotational co-op at the Americas Technology Center in Akron. Students work 40 hours a week on real projects alongside engineers.
The work depends on the discipline. Electrical co-ops help design and deploy plant machinery, program industrial controls with PLCs and AutoCAD Electrical, and support equipment installation, debug and start-up. Industrial engineering co-ops study facility use, cost, inventory and production control and human factors for plant changes. At the Akron technology center, co-ops rotate through mechanical, polymer, mechatronics and chemical engineering, writing specifications, running tests and analyzing data. The reqs say products are sold in over 150 nations and territories. A former electrical co-op on Reddit said Bridgestone has "a whole organized program for co-ops".

When Do Bridgestone Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Bridgestone posts its co-ops in late summer. Five of this year's seven reqs went up on 19 August 2026, with a mechanical spring co-op on 15 September and the Akron spring co-op on 22 September. Last year followed the same shape: a student posted on Reddit on 27 August 2025 that Bridgestone was offering co-ops for the next year, with a choice of Nashville HQ or the Des Moines plant. That puts applications for spring 2027 about four to five months before a January start, and applications for summer/fall 2027 about nine months before a May start. Separate plant or function internships have appeared later in the year: two summer 2026 listings were captured by the Wayback Machine in March 2026. Co-ops for spring and summer/fall 2028 are expected to post around August to September 2027.
Applications are open right now for both spring 2027 co-ops (four reqs) and summer/fall 2027 co-ops (three reqs). Decide which start you can commit six months to, then apply to the matching discipline.
Interviews run on a rolling basis. Spring 2027 seats start in January, so they fill first. Bridgestone's interview FAQ describes one-on-one or panel interviews, in person or by video, often on site for manufacturing roles.
The spring 2027 co-op cohort starts: at least six months at 40 hours a week for HQ and plant roles, or 4-to-5-month rotations in Akron.
Plant or function summer internships may post; two summer 2026 listings were archived in March 2026. That's thin evidence, so don't wait for them if a summer/fall co-op fits.
The summer/fall 2027 cohort starts, running at least six months. Co-ops for 2028 are expected to post around August to September 2027. Bridgestone doesn't publish a return-offer rate.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Bridgestone's co-op reqs roll, with no deadline and no end date on any of the seven. That doesn't mean you have time. Each discipline has a single req per cohort, shared across headquarters and several plants, so a small number of seats sits behind each posting, and interviews start as applications arrive.
Spring 2027 is the tightest. Those co-ops start in January, so offers have to go out this fall. Applying in your first week puts you in front of the recruiter while every site is still open, which also gives you a better shot at the location you want.
Which Bridgestone Internship Programs Should You Target?
Seven co-op reqs are live, one per discipline and cohort. The headquarters and plant co-ops share a template; the Akron one is different.
| Co-op | Focus | Cohorts open | Class year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electrical Engineering | Machinery design and deployment, PLC programming, AutoCAD Electrical, plant engineering | Spring 2027; summer/fall 2027 | Sophomore to senior |
| Industrial Engineering | Facility use, cost, inventory and production control, human factors, facility planning | Spring 2027; summer/fall 2027 | Sophomore to senior |
| Mechanical Engineering | Plant and product engineering, equipment projects | Spring 2027; summer/fall 2027 | Junior to senior |
| Americas Technology Center (Akron) | Rotations in mechanical, polymer, mechatronics and chemical engineering; testing and data analysis | Spring 2027 | Must be in your school's co-op program |
Apply on the Bridgestone Workday board. The HQ and plant reqs list Bridgestone Tower in Nashville first, plus several plants, so say which sites you can work at.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The requirements are consistent across the seven reqs, and two of them are firm:
• GPA: at least 3.0 on every req.
• Class year: sophomore to senior for electrical and industrial engineering; junior to senior for mechanical engineering.
• Coursework: completed coursework in Computer Aided Design (CAD) or AutoCAD for the headquarters and plant co-ops.
• Availability: 40 hours a week for at least six months. The reqs add that no other work experience is required.
• Akron technology center: enrollment in a co-op program in chemical, mechanical or polymer engineering, plus the 3.0 GPA.
• Work authorization: "Temporary work authorization or the need for sponsorship may disqualify you from employment."

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff at Bridgestone?
Treat it as one. Every live req lists "a GPA of at least 3.0" as a minimum qualification, not a preference, and Workday applications often screen on stated minimums before a person reads them. If you're just under 3.0, a strong major GPA or a recent upward trend is worth stating on your resume, but don't count on an exception.
What Skills Does Bridgestone Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Bridgestone's co-op reqs read like plant engineering job descriptions scaled for students. Beyond the 3.0 GPA and CAD coursework, they ask for excellent communication and presentation skills and proven technical aptitude in your major. The electrical co-ops add PLC programming and AutoCAD Electrical; the plant reqs mention helping with the safe installation, debug and start-up of equipment; industrial engineering co-ops use project management to control scope, schedule and cost.

How Is Demand for Engineering Interns Moving Right Now?
Mechanical engineering intern postings · Sep vs Aug 2026
vs 207 in August
Bridgestone's co-ops went up ahead of most of the engineering market, so they've been open longest. If a six-month co-op fits your degree plan, apply now rather than after the September wave of summer internships has played out.
Daily US job-posting counts, Sep 1–30 vs Aug 1–31, 2026. Covers under half of US postings; shows direction, not market size. Pay = median of employer-published ranges only (87 postings in September, 36 in August).
Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each row pairs a skill from Bridgestone's co-op reqs with a remote Externship that ends in a finished project.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Industrial engineering and operations analysis | Industrial co-ops: cost, inventory and production control; facility planning | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Controls and connected equipment | Electrical co-ops: industrial controls and PLC programming for new and existing machines | Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense |
| Test data analysis and reporting | Akron co-op: data analysis and processing, test design, standard reports | Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy |
None of these is a Bridgestone program, and Extern isn't affiliated with Bridgestone. They're practice on the same kinds of tasks, finished before your interview.
What Is the Bridgestone Application and Interview Process Like?
Bridgestone's job site publishes an application and interview FAQ; combined with the reqs, the process looks like this:
1. Pick the cohort and discipline. Each discipline has one spring 2027 req and one summer/fall 2027 req; apply to the start you can commit six months to.
2. Apply on Workday. Name the sites you can work at, since most reqs list headquarters plus two to four plants.
3. Interview. Bridgestone's FAQ describes one-on-one or panel interviews, in person or by video, and says manufacturing roles often interview on site. It recommends the STAR method for answers.
4. Offer and start. Spring co-ops start around January; summer/fall co-ops around May, for at least six months.
If you're weighing a co-op against a shorter summer internship elsewhere, our co-op vs internship guide covers the trade-offs, and our STAR method guide covers the answer format Bridgestone recommends.
What Students on Reddit Say
Only two Reddit threads discuss Bridgestone co-ops directly, so read these as individual reports rather than consensus.
A former Bridgestone electrical co-op said the company treats co-ops well, with an organized program and plenty of chances to meet other co-ops. He reported $27 an hour plus health insurance and said productive co-ops usually get an offer, though he turned his down.
In August 2025 a student said Bridgestone was offering co-ops for the next year with a choice of Nashville headquarters or the Des Moines plant. A commenter whose friend did one called the pay average with no housing; another suggested corporate in Nashville.
Not every view is positive. Two commenters criticized tire-plant working conditions in general, describing long overtime and pressure on operators, though neither was describing a co-op or the headquarters roles.
How Do You Stand Out for a Bridgestone Co-op?
Three moves, all practical this fall.
Clear the hard bars first. A 3.0 GPA and completed CAD or AutoCAD coursework are minimum qualifications on the HQ and plant reqs. Put both near the top of your resume so a screener sees them in seconds.
Bring a plant-floor story. The electrical reqs mention PLCs and machine controls; the industrial reqs mention cost, inventory and ergonomics studies. A class project, a lab, a student team build or a summer job in a plant gives you a STAR answer the interviewer can picture.
Be flexible on site and say so. Most reqs list Nashville plus two to four plants. Candidates who can work at a plant, not only the headquarters, have more seats to compete for. Bridgestone doesn't publish applicant numbers or a conversion rate, so flexibility is one of the few levers you control.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Bridgestone internship?
No. Summer 2026 roles have finished. What's open now are Bridgestone Americas' 2027 engineering co-ops: four for spring 2027 and three for summer/fall 2027, posted between 19 August and 22 September 2026. If you want a summer 2027 start, apply now for a summer/fall co-op of at least six months.
Does Bridgestone offer summer internships?
Mostly it offers co-ops. All seven student reqs on its US board are co-ops, and the summer option is a summer/fall 2027 co-op of at least six months at 40 hours a week. A few plant or function summer internships have posted in past springs, but none is live now.
How long is a Bridgestone co-op?
The headquarters and plant co-op reqs require a minimum six-month assignment at 40 hours a week, so plan around a full semester away from campus. The Akron technology center co-op uses rotations of about four to five months each across mechanical, polymer, mechatronics and chemical engineering.
What GPA do I need for a Bridgestone co-op?
At least 3.0. Every one of the seven live co-op reqs lists a GPA of 3.0 or higher as a minimum qualification. The headquarters and plant reqs also require completed CAD or AutoCAD coursework, and the Akron co-op requires enrollment in your school's co-op program.
How much do Bridgestone co-ops pay?
Bridgestone doesn't publish co-op pay in its reqs, which only mention competitive compensation. A former electrical co-op reported $27 an hour plus health insurance on Reddit in 2024, but treat that as one person's report from a few years ago and confirm pay with the recruiter.
Does Bridgestone sponsor visas for co-ops?
Probably not. Every live co-op req says that temporary work authorization or the need for sponsorship may disqualify you from employment. If you're an international student who will need sponsorship, ask the recruiter before applying, because the line appears on all seven reqs.
Where are Bridgestone co-ops located?
Six of the seven reqs list Bridgestone Tower, the Nashville headquarters, as the primary site, plus plants listed as Warren, Aiken, Wilson and Des Moines. The seventh is at the Americas Technology Center in Akron, Ohio. All co-ops are on site and full time.
What is the Bridgestone co-op interview like?
Bridgestone's application FAQ describes one-on-one or panel interviews, held in person or by video, and says manufacturing roles often interview on site. It recommends answering with the STAR method, so prepare stories about projects, teamwork and problem-solving with clear results.
Bridgestone's spring and summer/fall 2027 co-ops are open now, and spring seats fill first. While you wait to hear back, a remote Externship gives you a finished project to talk through in a STAR answer.
