Last updated: October 2026
Amwins' summer 2027 internships are open now, but not where most students look. On October 5, 2026 its separate internship board listed 9 summer 2027 internships, published between September 4 and 30, 2026, while the main careers board showed none. In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027, and at Amwins the door opened in early September.
The nine include wholesale brokerage internships in Seattle, Scottsdale, Lafayette (California), Edison (New Jersey) and Satellite Beach (Florida), a premium audit internship in Mobile, a claims and medical management internship in Metairie, a health actuarial internship in Charlotte, and the ASCS Intern Rotation (AIR) in Chicago: 10 weeks, up to three rotations and private furnished housing downtown, at $22 an hour. All are in the office, and none lists a closing date.
What Is an Amwins Internship?
An Amwins internship is a paid, in-office summer program at Amwins, a Charlotte-based specialty insurance distributor. As a wholesaler, Amwins places hard-to-insure risks for retail insurance agents with specialty markets, and it also runs program underwriting and group benefits businesses. Interns work in brokerage, underwriting, claims, audit or actuarial teams on real accounts. Amwins' company page reports $44.5 billion in annual premium placed and relationships with more than 42,000 underwriters and 35,000 retail agencies, and its intern postings say the firm is 43% employee-owned. Its internship page lists four intern divisions: brokerage, small accounts, underwriting and benefits.

When Do Amwins Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Amwins published its first summer 2027 internships on September 4, 2026 (the Charlotte actuarial, Lafayette brokerage and Chicago AIR postings), added Edison and Scottsdale on September 15, Mobile and Metairie on September 22 and 23, and Seattle and Satellite Beach on September 30. That's about eight to nine months before a mid-May or June start. We couldn't recover last cycle's posting dates, so treat this year's September window as the best guide to summer 2028, expected around September 2027. Amwins also lists small accounts and benefits as intern divisions; neither had a posting on October 5.
Applications for summer 2027 are open right now: 9 postings across brokerage, premium audit, claims and medical management, the Chicago AIR rotation and health actuarial. None lists a deadline.
Interviews and offers by office (Amwins doesn't publish dates). Other offices or the small accounts and benefits divisions may add internships.
People in the industry say Amwins takes most postings down around the holidays and reposts as needed in January, so an internship you're waiting to apply to may disappear for a while.
Internships run from mid-May or June 2027: the actuarial internship 8 to 12 weeks through August, AIR 10 weeks full-time in Chicago. Amwins features former interns who joined full-time.
Applications for summer 2028 are expected to post, based on this year's September 4 to 30 window.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Amwins' internships are rolling by office. None of the nine postings states a deadline, and each location hires for itself, so a posting can come down once that office fills its seat. There's also a calendar risk: industry commenters say Amwins usually clears its job board around the start of January and reposts over the following weeks. Applying in October or November keeps you clear of that gap.
Which Amwins Internship Programs Should You Target?
Amwins' nine summer 2027 postings fall into five tracks. Each brokerage office posts separately, so apply to the city you want.
| Track | Focus | Where | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brokerage Internship (5 offices) | Account data and reporting, quote comparison across markets, research and client deliverables | Seattle, Scottsdale, Lafayette CA, Edison NJ, Satellite Beach FL | Communication, analysis, Microsoft Office |
| Premium Audit Internship | Brokerage template in the premium audit unit | Mobile, AL | Analysis, data entry, Excel |
| Underwriting/Claims Medical Management (AEU) | Medical records and bills, claim data entry, case-management timelines | Metairie, LA | Detail, medical or healthcare coursework |
| ASCS Intern Rotation (AIR) | Up to three rotations across underwriting, analytics, finance, claims, actuarial and more; housing provided | Chicago, IL (10 weeks) | Organization, analysis, full-time commitment |
| Actuarial Charlotte Internship | Health and benefits: self-funding analyses, stop-loss trends, pricing, claims benchmarking | Charlotte, NC (8 to 12 weeks) | Excel, SQL, Python, an exam preferred |
Every posting is listed on Amwins' internship program page.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Amwins' internship page and postings set these requirements:
• Enrollment: a student at an accredited four-year college or university.
• GPA: an overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, per the internship page's hiring criteria; the postings call 3.0 "recommended".
• Majors: risk management and insurance or a related field; brokerage lists business, finance and sales, medical management adds healthcare, and AIR adds actuarial science, accounting, economics, data analytics and marketing.
• Actuarial: rising juniors or seniors as of fall 2027 preferred, at least one exam passed preferred, and familiarity with SAS, Python or R.
• AIR: you must be able to work full-time in Chicago for all 10 weeks.
• Work authorization: none of the nine postings states a sponsorship policy, so confirm with the recruiter.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff at Amwins?
Treat it as one. Amwins' internship page lists a cumulative 3.0 among its hiring criteria, even though individual postings soften it to "recommended." If you're just under, lean on risk management coursework, an insurance club such as Gamma Iota Sigma, or work experience, and apply anyway; the internship page features a former intern who found his role through his Gamma Iota Sigma chapter president.

Which group is your school closest to?

Count anything with a real employer, mentor or principal investigator attached. Retail and food service do not count.
Has any of that experience been finance-related?
Banking, PE or VC, corporate finance, wealth management, equity research, accounting or consulting. Any size of firm counts.

What Skills Does Amwins Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
All four Amwins intern templates ask for communication, analytical skills, Microsoft Office and curiosity. Brokerage interns also compare quotes across markets and keep account data and reports in order. Claims and medical management interns work with medical records, bills and claim data. AIR rotators need organization for up to three teams in ten weeks. Actuarial interns add SQL, Python or SAS for benefits pricing and stop-loss trend work.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each Amwins skill maps to a remote Externship that gives you a finished project to discuss with an office or the AIR team.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Claims and health cost analysis | Actuarial: claims benchmarking and stop-loss trends; AEU: medical bills and claim data | TruBridge Healthcare Data Analytics |
| Market comparison and recommendations | Brokerage: compare quotes across markets and prepare client deliverables | Corporate Strategy Externship mentored by Eric Ries |
| SQL and data | Actuarial: Excel, SQL and Python; AIR data analytics rotation | Breaking Games SQL Database Architecture |
| Financial analysis | AIR finance and accounting rotations | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis and Private Company Valuation |
For the actuarial and medical management roles the TruBridge match is closest: both work on medical claims data, the core material of Amwins' benefits business.
What Is the Amwins Application and Interview Process Like?
Amwins doesn't publish an intern interview process. Its postings and early-career candidates point to these steps:
1. Apply on the internship board. Apply to each office or track separately on the internship program page, not the main careers board.
2. Recruiter screen. Early-career applicants describe a quick first contact from talent acquisition, and one brokerage applicant was offered a one-way video interview as an option at the screening stage.
3. Team interviews. Early-career candidates say Amwins looks for readiness to learn, responsiveness and organization more than technical knowledge, so prepare examples of each.
4. Offer. Offers come from the hiring office; Amwins doesn't publish dates.

What Early-Career Applicants Say on Reddit
There are no Reddit threads from Amwins summer interns, so these cards come from early-career and full-time applicants and staff.
Someone checking Amwins' job board in early January found only a handful of postings. The top reply said Amwins usually clears its board at the start of January and reposts as the weeks go by; a later reply confirmed listings were back.
An applicant to Amwins' graduate underwriter program heard from talent acquisition the same day, then got a phone interview request from the college relations team; commenters mentioned a super day as a later step.
A former 11-year employee said Amwins is a sales organization, a wholesale broker and MGA rather than a carrier, and that growth depends on you and your team lead. Others called pay and bonuses strong but the workload heavy, a point some disputed.
How Do You Stand Out for an Amwins Internship?
Three moves. First, show you understand wholesale. Amwins doesn't sell to the public; it places specialty risks for retail agents. Explaining that in one sentence, with an example of an excess and surplus lines risk, sets you apart from applicants who think it's a carrier. Second, target the office or track. Each brokerage office posts its own internship; for AIR, name the rotations you want and confirm you can be in Chicago for all ten weeks. Third, bring risk management and insurance proof. RMI coursework, an insurance club such as Gamma Iota Sigma, or an earlier insurance job all count. Amwins publishes no applicant count or conversion rate; its internship page features former interns who turned their summer into a full-time career.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Amwins internship?
No. Amwins' summer 2026 program has already ended. The open door is summer 2027: on October 5, 2026 Amwins had 9 summer 2027 internships live on its internship board, published between September 4 and 30, 2026, and none lists a closing date. Apply to the office or track you want now.
When do Amwins internships open?
Amwins published its summer 2027 internships between September 4 and 30, 2026, about eight to nine months before a mid-May or June start. Offices can add postings later. Expect summer 2028 internships around September 2027, and note that Amwins has historically cleared its job board around early January.
What GPA does Amwins require?
Amwins' internship page lists an overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 among its hiring criteria, and individual postings call 3.0 recommended. Treat 3.0 as the expected bar, and if you're slightly under it, highlight insurance coursework, a club like Gamma Iota Sigma or relevant work experience.
How much do Amwins interns make?
Where Amwins publishes pay, it's $22 an hour for the Seattle brokerage internship, plus bonus eligibility, and for the Chicago AIR program, plus private housing and a trip to Charlotte. The Lafayette, California brokerage internship pays $20 to $21 an hour. Other offices don't list a rate.
What is the Amwins AIR program?
AIR is the ASCS Intern Rotation, run by Amwins Specialty Casualty Solutions in Chicago. It's a paid, full-time, 10-week internship with up to three rotations across teams such as underwriting, data analytics, finance, claims and actuarial, private furnished housing in downtown Chicago, intern events and an expenses-paid trip to Charlotte.
Does Amwins have actuarial internships?
Yes. The Actuarial Charlotte Internship sits in Amwins' benefits business and runs 8 to 12 weeks from mid-May 2027. Interns work on self-funding analyses, stop-loss trends, pricing and claims benchmarking. Amwins prefers rising juniors or seniors with an exam passed and some SAS, Python or R.
Are Amwins internships remote?
No. All nine summer 2027 postings are listed as in-office, in Charlotte, Chicago, Edison, Lafayette, Metairie, Mobile, Satellite Beach, Scottsdale and Seattle. Only the Chicago AIR program provides housing, so apply where you can live for the summer. Plan to work from the office for the whole summer.
Does Amwins hire interns full-time?
It can. Amwins' internship page features former interns who became full-time teammates, and it runs a separate Underwriter Development Program for graduates. It doesn't publish a conversion rate, so treat a full-time offer as something you earn over the summer rather than a given.
Amwins' nine summer 2027 internships are open now on its internship board, so apply before the holiday board clear-out. A remote Externship gives you a finished analysis to bring to the interview.
