Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. has run its internship program continuously since 1965, brings in 500-plus interns every summer across 140-plus US offices, and its current chairman and CEO, J. Patrick Gallagher Jr., started as one of those interns. Gallagher is the world's fourth-largest insurance brokerage (Fortune 500 No. 327, $13.9 billion in 2025 revenue, up 20.7%) and it closed the largest deal in brokerage history in 2025, the $13.4 billion AssuredPartners acquisition.

And unlike most employers on this calendar, the summer 2027 postings are already live. Three US internship requisitions (Sales, Data Analytics, Actuary) were posted by August 2026 with program dates of June 7 to August 6, 2027. You apply in fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027.

Gallagher's summer 2027 internship postings are live now, and the careers page warns that "recruiting starts as early as September, and roles fill quickly." Rolling review, no published deadline, sophomores and juniors only, unrestricted US work authorization required.

Gallagher's intern interviews are short and behavioral (Glassdoor's Sales Intern reports describe a 30-minute conversation with two easygoing interviewers), so what separates candidates is the work they can describe. Build it with the Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling Externship, which maps to the Actuary track's financial monitoring and pricing work, or the Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy Externship for the data visualization and dashboard skills the Data Analytics JD asks for. Both are short remote professional programs. Explore all Externships.

What Is an Arthur J. Gallagher Internship?

Gallagher's internship is a roughly nine-week, paid, hybrid summer program (June 7 to August 6, 2027) that places 500-plus interns across more than 140 US offices. The flagship Sales Internship exposes interns to all five divisions (Gallagher Global Brokerage, Gallagher Benefit Services, Risk Placement Services, Gallagher Bassett, Gallagher Re) through job shadowing with producers, consultants, and underwriting teams, client project assignments, and national and regional sales competitions. Data Analytics and Actuary interns sit in the Risk Management Services and actuarial consulting groups at the Rolling Meadows, Illinois headquarters.

So what does every intern get regardless of track? A National Intern Orientation conference in Chicago, weekly training events, case competitions, and a 500-person nationwide intern network. Gallagher is a broker, not a carrier: it represents the buyer, advising clients on risk rather than underwriting policies. The Sales JD notes that "many of our sales professionals started on this program as interns," and Gallagher's own students page points out that the CEO did too.

When Do Arthur J. Gallagher Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Gallagher recruits early and rolls through the year. Summer 2027 requisitions went live in August 2026, the careers page says recruiting "starts as early as September, and roles fill quickly," and there's no published cutoff.

So the lead time is 9 to 10 months from posting to a June 7 start, but the practical window is much shorter for popular cities: with interns choosing a preferred office among 140-plus locations, each office has only a few seats.

Now · September 2026YOU ARE HEREROLLING — APPLY WEEK 1

Summer 2027 postings are live: Sales (req 57704), Data Analytics (57701), and Actuary (57700). Apply this week on jobs.ajg.com. Pick your preferred city carefully; that choice drives which office reviews you.

Oct – Dec 2026EXPECTED

Expected peak of rolling review and interviews. Glassdoor's intern reports show 42% of candidates got interviews by applying online and 20% through campus recruiting, so do both: apply, then find Gallagher at your school's fall career fair.

Jan – Apr 2027

Remaining seats fill by office. Expect a 30-minute behavioral interview, sometimes two rounds. Glassdoor rates Summer Intern interview difficulty 2.3 to 2.4 out of 5 and 66% of candidates report a positive experience.

Early June 2027

National Intern Orientation in Chicago, then the program starts June 7 in your assigned office. Weekly training events and sales or case competitions run through the summer.

Jul – Aug 2027

Program ends August 6, 2027. The Sales JD says the summer can "culminate in potentially receiving a full-time offer" into Gallagher's leadership development programs; Reddit users describe a strong intern-to-full-time pipeline, though no rate is published.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Gallagher's window is rolling, and the company says so plainly: "roles fill quickly." What makes that bite is the office-by-office structure. You choose a preferred city in the application, and each of the 140-plus offices hosts only a handful of interns, so a popular market like Chicago, Charlotte, or Irvine can be full while the national requisition still shows open.

And there's no deadline to save you. Nobody emails to say your city is done; the seat just goes to the sophomore who applied in September.

So apply now, while the requisitions are fresh and every office is still reviewing, and treat the fall career fair as a second touchpoint rather than your first.

Which Arthur J. Gallagher Internship Programs Should You Target?

Three US tracks are live for summer 2027, and Gallagher runs several targeted early-career programs alongside them.

IN2GB is HBCU-specific and REACH and INVEST are post-graduation programs, so most students should focus on the three summer tracks. Current requisitions and the full program list are on the Gallagher emerging talent programs page.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Gallagher's three live JDs are unusually specific about class year and work authorization, and silent on GPA.

Class year: sophomores and juniors with an expected graduation between December 2027 and June 2029 (freshmen and graduating seniors are excluded)

GPA: no minimum stated on any of the three summer 2027 postings

Availability: full program dates, June 7 through August 6, 2027

Work authorization: "unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States"; the JDs explicitly exclude F, J, H, and L visa holders, including students in practical training status

Majors (Sales): open to all majors

Majors (Actuary): risk management and insurance, finance, actuarial science, statistics, economics, or math preferred; at least one actuarial exam preferred

Technical (Data Analytics): proficient in Excel and PowerPoint; SQL Server, SSRS, Power BI, or Tableau experience is a plus

Overhead shot of a tidy brokerage desk with a stack of bound policy documents, a calculator, a fountain pen, a coffee cu

Is the Work Authorization Rule a Hard Gate?

Yes. All three JDs use the same language: Gallagher hires US citizens, permanent residents, refugees, and temporary residents, and excludes non-immigrant work authorization such as F, J, H, and L visas. The only carve-out is "shortage of qualified candidates with a particular skill," which is an exception, not a pathway.

But what about GPA? Nothing is published, and that's real: none of the postings list a floor. Recruiters may still glance at it, so include it if it helps you and lead with experience if it doesn't.

What Skills Does Arthur J. Gallagher Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Gallagher's three summer 2027 JDs describe a people-first, data-second skill set. The Sales JD asks for interpersonal skills, initiative, and collaboration and names no software. The Data Analytics JD is the most technical: Excel and PowerPoint proficiency required, with SQL Server, SSRS, Power BI, and Tableau as pluses. The Actuary JD wants financial monitoring and pricing work plus progress on the SOA exam track.

And all three share the "Gallagher Way," the company's codified ethics-and-service culture, which appears on every posting as something interns are expected to adopt.

What Is the Arthur J. Gallagher Application and Interview Process Like?

Gallagher's process is short. Most intern candidates report one behavioral interview of about 30 minutes, and Glassdoor's Summer Intern difficulty rating is 2.3 to 2.4 out of 5.

1. Open the Students & Interns page at jobs.ajg.com/ajg-students and pick your track: Sales, Data Analytics, or Actuary.

2. Apply on iCIMS. Create a profile, upload your resume, and select a preferred city from the list inside the application.

3. Meet Gallagher on campus if they visit; 20% of intern interviews on Glassdoor came through campus recruiting.

4. Interview, usually one round with two interviewers, sometimes a second. Standard behavioral format: "introduce yourself," resume walkthrough, "tell me about a time..."

5. Show proof of work authorization when requested; it's a stated requirement on every JD.

6. Accept and prepare for the Chicago orientation and a June 7 start.

So what's the interviewer actually listening for? Whether you understand that Gallagher is a broker and consultant, not a carrier, and whether you can talk about clients rather than policies. The official overview lives on the Gallagher Students & Interns page.

What Students on Reddit Say

Gallagher comes up regularly on r/InsuranceProfessional and r/FPandA, mostly from interns and recent grads. The consistent theme is that the experience depends on your office and manager.

A finance major interning at Gallagher said they were impressed with the internship program and were weighing a producer or broker role after graduation. Replies noted that the experience varies a lot by branch.

An intern comparing Gallagher with another offer described the producer-track role as including housing, a strong culture, solid mentorship, and a strong internship-to-full-time conversion pipeline.

Asked what working at Gallagher is like, commenters said it ranges from decent to great depending on leadership and your direct manager, and that because Gallagher does its own hiring, interviews feel like a smaller employer.

How Do You Stand Out at Arthur J. Gallagher?

First, talk like a broker, not an underwriter. Gallagher doesn't write policies; it represents the buyer and advises on risk. Name the division you want (Global Brokerage, Benefit Services, Risk Placement Services, Gallagher Bassett, Gallagher Re) and say why. A line about the hardening property market or cyber demand shows you've read past the careers page.

Second, use the acquisition story. Six hundred-plus deals, the $13.4 billion AssuredPartners acquisition, 20.7% revenue growth in 2025: that's structural growth, and saying you want to join a platform that's integrating new teams every quarter is a credible ambition.

And third, come with a Gallagher Way example. The JDs literally list "adopting Gallagher's unique culture, the Gallagher Way" and "participating in various local community service events" as intern responsibilities, so have one concrete story about service or an ethical call ready.

So what about the CEO-was-an-intern fact? Don't recite it; use it. Ask your interviewer how the office develops interns toward producer roles, and you've turned trivia into a signal that you're thinking about the long game.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Arthur J. Gallagher internship?

No. The summer 2026 program has ended, and Gallagher's live requisitions are now for summer 2027 (June 7 to August 6, 2027). Those postings were up by August 2026 and are reviewed on a rolling basis, so the right move is to apply for 2027 now rather than wait for a formal opening announcement.

When should I apply for the Gallagher summer 2027 internship?

Now. Sales, Data Analytics, and Actuary requisitions for summer 2027 are already posted, and Gallagher's careers page says "recruiting starts as early as September, and roles fill quickly." There's no published deadline; applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and offices fill their few seats as strong candidates appear.

Does Arthur J. Gallagher require a minimum GPA for internships?

No. None of the three live summer 2027 postings lists a minimum GPA. Gallagher's JDs focus on interpersonal skills, initiative, collaboration, and genuine interest in insurance brokerage. That said, an unpublished floor isn't the same as GPA being irrelevant, so include yours if it strengthens your application.

How much do Gallagher interns get paid?

Sales interns earn $22.50 to $23.00 per hour and Data Analytics and Actuary interns earn $25.50 to $27.00 per hour, per the summer 2027 job descriptions. Indeed's Gallagher-specific average is $25.27 per hour across 257 reports. The postings don't mention housing or relocation stipends.

Can international students apply to Gallagher internships?

Generally no. All three summer 2027 JDs require unrestricted US work authorization and explicitly exclude F, J, H, and L visa holders, including students on CPT or OPT. The JDs allow exceptions only for a shortage of candidates with a particular skill, which is rare in practice.

What is the Gallagher internship interview process like?

Short and behavioral. Glassdoor rates Summer Intern interview difficulty 2.3 to 2.4 out of 5, and Sales Intern reports describe a single 30-minute interview with two easygoing interviewers asking you to introduce yourself and walk through your resume. About 42% of candidates got interviews by applying online and 20% through campus recruiting.

Which divisions can I work in as a Gallagher intern?

The Sales Internship spans all five divisions: Gallagher Global Brokerage (commercial insurance), Gallagher Benefit Services (HR and benefits consulting), Risk Placement Services (wholesale and specialty), Gallagher Bassett (claims management), and Gallagher Re (reinsurance). Data Analytics and Actuary interns work mainly in Risk Management Services and actuarial consulting at headquarters.

Does Gallagher convert interns to full-time employees?

Many, though no rate is published. The Sales JD says the summer "will culminate in potentially receiving a full-time offer" into leadership development programs, the students page notes many sales professionals started as interns, and the CEO did too. Reddit interns describe a strong conversion pipeline, but treat that as anecdote.

Gallagher's summer 2027 requisitions are live today, the review is rolling, and each office has only a few seats. Apply this week, then build the financial modeling or data analytics evidence a 30-minute behavioral interview can't test on its own with a short remote Externship.
