Last updated: October 2026

Ryan Specialty's summer 2027 internship hasn't posted yet. On October 5, 2026, its Workday job board had 83 open roles and no internship. Last year the Risk Management & Insurance (RMI) internship went live in early September 2025 and came down on December 22, so this year's posting is already about a month later and is expected in October or November 2026. In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027.

The RMI internship is one national, eight-week, paid program that mixes virtual sessions with in-office training and job shadowing; summer 2026 ran June 1 to July 24. It's aimed at juniors and seniors. Ryan doesn't publish the hourly rate, but it tells the internship review site RISE that 90% of eligible interns have received full-time offers.

What Is a Ryan Specialty Internship?

A Ryan Specialty internship is the company's Risk Management & Insurance (RMI) program: a paid, eight-week summer internship that teaches insurance markets, specialty lines, wholesale brokerage, and underwriting inside a managing general underwriter and a binding authority. Interns hear from top producers and underwriters, do group case studies and presentations, and shadow teams, with virtual and in-office parts. Ryan Specialty is a Chicago-based specialty insurance intermediary founded in 2010 by Patrick G. Ryan, who earlier founded Aon. It reported $3.05 billion in revenue for 2025 and about 6,110 employees in 129 offices, according to its 2025 annual report. It's a different company from Ryan LLC, the tax firm.

When Do Ryan Specialty Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Last cycle, employees were sharing the summer 2026 RMI posting by September 4, 2025, an aggregator listed a December 12 deadline, and the posting came down on December 22, 2025. The program then ran June 1 to July 24, 2026, about nine months after it opened. This year the summer 2027 posting hadn't appeared by October 5, 2026, so the calendar has already slipped by at least a month. Treat the dates below as expected, with lower confidence than usual: an October or November open and a mid-to-late December close.

Applications for summer 2027 aren't open yet: Ryan's board shows no internship. This is the window to set a Workday job alert and build the proof that helps once the posting goes live.

Use the wait: the Corporate Strategy Externship mentored by Eric Ries or the Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis Externship gives you a finished case study to put on your application.

October to November 2026EXPECTEDROLLING — APPLY WEEK 1

The summer 2027 RMI internship is expected to post, based on last year's early-September open and this year's delay. Apply the week it appears.

Mid to late December 2026EXPECTED

The summer 2027 window is expected to close, based on last cycle's December 12 aggregator deadline and the December 22, 2025 removal of the posting.

June to late July 2027

The eight-week program, expected to run on dates similar to June 1 to July 24, 2026: speaker sessions, case studies, presentations and job shadowing. Ryan says 90% of eligible interns have received full-time offers.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Ryan Specialty runs one national posting for one national class, and last cycle it stayed up for under four months. Reviews roll while the posting is live, so the students who apply in the first weeks are read before the class fills, and an application sent in mid-December may arrive after the decisions that matter. The summer 2027 posting is also running late: it hadn't appeared by October 5, 2026, about a month after last year's date. That shortens the window if the December close holds. Set a job alert for "RMI" and "Intern" so you can apply the week it posts.

Which Ryan Specialty Internship Programs Should You Target?

Ryan Specialty has one main student program in the US, plus a few smaller openings.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Requirements below come from the summer 2026 RMI posting; the 2027 version may update the dates.

• Enrollment: enrolled in an accredited bachelor's degree program. Last year's posting required graduation no earlier than December 2025; expect the 2027 posting to move that date forward a year.

• Class year: Ryan's careers page says the program is for students, particularly juniors and seniors.

• Majors: not restricted in the posting.

• GPA: not stated.

• Work authorization: the RMI posting doesn't state a policy. The separate Business Development Intern posting required US work authorization without sponsorship, so ask the recruiter if you'll need sponsorship.

Is There a GPA Cutoff at Ryan Specialty?

Ryan doesn't publish one. The RMI posting screens on enrollment and graduation date, then lists skills: organization, professional communication, customer service, analysis and research, and comfort with tools such as Zoom, Teams and Outlook. Because the business runs on broker relationships, evidence that you communicate well with clients or customers may matter as much as grades.

What Is the Ryan Specialty Application and Interview Process Like?

Ryan Specialty publishes only part of its process, so this combines the posting, its careers page and last cycle's dates:

1. Apply on Workday. Find the RMI posting and choose your region; last cycle one posting covered many offices.

2. Review. Applications are read while the posting is live, which last cycle ran into late December.

3. Interviews. Ryan doesn't publish the format. Prepare to explain wholesale brokerage, binding authority and managing general underwriters in your own words.

4. Offer. Ryan's careers page says it will never ask for your Social Security number or proof of work eligibility until after an offer, and its recruiters use @ryansg.com addresses.

5. Program. Eight weeks in June and July, with virtual and in-office parts.

What Students on Reddit Say

Reddit has no first-hand RMI intern account; these comments describe the wholesale brokerage path Ryan's interns train for.

An AmWINS employee told a new economics and finance graduate that excess and surplus wholesale brokerage is a great career path out of college, and said the same largely applies at CRC and RSG, Ryan Specialty's group.

A carrier-side professional said brokerage assistants handle renewals, endorsements, claims and account upkeep for the broker, and that moving up usually means building your own book of business.

How Do You Stand Out for a Ryan Specialty Internship?

Three moves. First, be ready the week it posts. Set a Workday alert for "RMI" and "Intern", have your resume final, and apply in the first days, since last cycle's window ended in late December. Second, speak the language. Know what a wholesale broker, a binding authority and a managing general underwriter do, and why excess and surplus lines exist. The program teaches all three, and curiosity about them reads well. Third, show relationship skills. Customer service and professional communication sit near the top of the posting, and the work runs on broker relationships, so a client-facing job counts. Ryan reports a 90% full-time offer rate for eligible interns but publishes no class size or applicant count.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Ryan Specialty internship?

No. The summer 2026 RMI internship ran June 1 to July 24, 2026, and its posting came down in December 2025. The next door is summer 2027, and that posting hadn't appeared by October 5, 2026. It's expected in October or November 2026, so set a job alert now.

When do Ryan Specialty summer 2027 applications open?

They're expected to open in October or November 2026. Last year the RMI posting was live by September 4, 2025, but on October 5, 2026 the summer 2027 version still hadn't posted, so this year's calendar is running at least a month later. Set a Workday alert for RMI and Intern.

When do Ryan Specialty internship applications close?

Expect mid-to-late December 2026. Last cycle an aggregator listed a December 12, 2025 deadline and the posting came down on December 22, 2025. Ryan reviews while the posting is live, so applying in the first weeks after it appears is safer than waiting for December.

How much do Ryan Specialty interns make?

Ryan Specialty doesn't publish the rate. The RMI internship is paid and full time for eight weeks, but the pay range on last year's posting was left blank, and the part-time Business Development posting was blank too. We don't quote third-party estimates; check the summer 2027 posting when it appears.

Is the Ryan Specialty internship remote?

It's hybrid. The RMI program combines virtual sessions, such as industry speakers and skills training, with in-office training, group work and job shadowing. One posting covers many offices, including Chicago, Birmingham, Phoenix, Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco, so you'll choose a location when you apply.

Who can apply for the RMI internship?

Bachelor's students, particularly juniors and seniors. Last year's posting required enrollment in an accredited bachelor's program and graduation no earlier than December 2025; expect the summer 2027 posting to move that date a year. It doesn't restrict majors or state a GPA, and the RMI posting doesn't state a sponsorship policy.

Do Ryan Specialty interns get full-time offers?

Most eligible ones do, by Ryan's account. The company told the internship review site RISE that 90% of eligible interns have received full-time offers, and its program sheet says many interns become full-time employees. Graduates often start in the Ryan Specialty University Foundations Program, a six-week training program.

Is Ryan Specialty the same as Ryan LLC?

No. Ryan Specialty is a Chicago-based specialty insurance broker and underwriting manager listed on the NYSE as RYAN. Ryan LLC is a Dallas-based tax services firm with its own internships, covered in our Ryan LLC internship guide. Search results often mix the two.

Ryan Specialty's summer 2027 posting is expected in October or November. Set your job alert today, and use the weeks before it to build proof: a remote Externship gives you a finished case study to talk about in Ryan's interviews.
