Last updated: October 2026
Wiss is already hiring interns for January 2028. On October 12, 2026, the New Jersey firm's job portal listed three internships that start in January 2028: Tax, Assurance, and Client Accounting and Advisory Services (CAAS) Advisory. The portal's own timestamps show all three were created on September 14, 2026, about 15.5 months before the first day. A fourth internship, in Digital Technology, has no season in its title.
In plain words: you apply in fall 2026, and you intern in January 2028. No summer 2027 internship is listed, and the spring 2027 internship Wiss posted a year ago is gone from the board. The three January 2028 postings ask for three days a week on site in Florham Park and list a 3.5 GPA as desired. No posting states a deadline.
What Is a Wiss Internship?
A Wiss internship is an on-site student role at Wiss & Company, LLP, an accounting and advisory firm in Florham Park, New Jersey, founded in 1969. Interns join the tax, assurance or CAAS Advisory team, or the firm's digital technology group. On the three accounting teams they work three days a week in the office while finishing their degree. The postings say the role is for "college students and recent graduates" and describe work across "multiple engagements."
Vault ranks Wiss #45 on its Most Prestigious Accounting Firms list (2027 Vault Rankings). The firm's postings also cite Accounting Today's 2026 Top 100 Firms and 2026 Regional Leaders lists. Wiss has put visible weight on AI: it runs an innovation team called Wiss Labs, and its tax, assurance and advisory internship postings each ask for a basic understanding of AI tools and prompting.
Wiss also runs a Summer Leadership Program in late July for up to 40 students. That's a short workshop series aimed at freshmen and sophomores, not an internship.

When Do Wiss Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Wiss recruits its interns far earlier than most regional firms. The job portal's timestamps show the Tax, Assurance and CAAS Advisory internships for January 2028 were created on the morning of September 14, 2026, in the same 12-minute batch as three entry-level staff roles that start in December 2027. That's about 15.5 months from requisition to first day. Creation time is a lower bound on when a posting went public, so treat the date as the earliest possible.
The previous cycle had the same shape. A CAAS Advisory internship for spring 2027 was posted in fall 2025, and it's no longer on the board. No summer 2027 internship is listed either. So applications for January 2029 are expected around mid-September 2027. If Wiss posts summer 2028 internships, fall 2027 is the likely window, but that estimate is low confidence.
Requisitions for the January 2028 Tax, Assurance and CAAS Advisory internships were created (portal timestamp), together with three entry-level staff roles for December 2027. The Digital Technology internship was created earlier, on July 22, 2026.
Applications are open for the January 2028 cohort in Tax, Assurance and CAAS Advisory, and for the Digital Technology internship. No summer 2027 internship is listed. No posting states a deadline.
The Summer Leadership Program application is expected to reopen for late July 2027 (low confidence). Its application link on the firm's site wasn't active on October 12, 2026. The program isn't an internship.
Applications for the January 2029 cohort are expected to open, if Wiss repeats this year's timing. Summer 2028 internships, if the firm posts them, would likely appear in fall 2027 as well (low confidence).
The January 2028 cohort starts in Florham Park, working three days a week on site as busy season begins.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
None of Wiss's four internship postings states a deadline, a closing date or a review date, so in practice the January 2028 cohort is open until the firm has the people it wants. Two facts argue against waiting. First, the firm hires in batches: three internships and three entry-level roles were created within 12 minutes on September 14, 2026, which points to a planned campus class with a set number of seats. Second, last cycle's listings didn't stay up. The spring 2027 CAAS Advisory internship posted in fall 2025 now returns an empty page.
The long lead cuts the other way too. If you skip this window because January 2028 feels far off, the next January cohort you can apply for is 2029. Apply now, and use the months in between to build skills.
Which Wiss Internship Programs Should You Target?
Wiss lists four internships, all in Florham Park. Three are busy-season roles for January 2028, and one is a technology role with no season in its title.
| Program | Focus | Start | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Internship, Tax (open) | Personal, partnership, corporation and trust returns and extensions; 1099s; work paper files; tax notices | January 2028 | Tax research, organization, AI tools |
| Internship, Assurance (open) | Audit, review and compilation engagements; client files; confirmations | January 2028 | Attention to detail, communication, AI tools |
| Intern, CAAS Advisory (open) | Month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable and receivable, KPI work for outsourced-accounting clients | January 2028 | QuickBooks Online and Bill.com (you certify during the internship) |
| Intern, Digital Technology (open) | Writing and testing code, deployment pipelines, production support, testing AI tools alongside Wiss Labs | Not stated | A programming language, SQL basics, object-oriented programming |
| Summer Leadership Program (not an internship) | Two 2.5-hour workshops a day over several days; up to 40 students | Late July | For accounting, finance or business analytics students, especially freshmen and sophomores |
Wiss's internship overview also names advisory, wealth management and operations as areas that take interns, and describes a 4+1 pathway with Fairleigh Dickinson University that combines paid work with master's credits. None of those had a posting on October 12, 2026.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The three January 2028 postings share one list of "Desired Characteristics." The Digital Technology posting has its own:
• GPA: "3.5 GPA or higher," listed as a desired characteristic on the Tax, Assurance and CAAS Advisory postings.
• Major: "Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or another business-related field." Digital Technology wants computer science, information technology or a related field.
• Class year: "Graduating within the next 2 years, and desire to pursue CPA designation highly desired." The postings are open to college students and recent graduates.
• Schedule: "Must be able to work 3 days/week on-site" in Florham Park.
• AI: a "basic understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and effective prompting techniques" on all three January 2028 postings.
• Work authorization: the Digital Technology posting says visa sponsorship isn't available. The other three don't address it.

Is the 3.5 GPA a Hard Cutoff at Wiss?
The postings don't call it one. "3.5 GPA or higher" sits under the heading "Desired Characteristics," next to the major and the graduation window, so it reads as a preference and not a stated minimum. It's a high preference for a regional firm, though, and Wiss doesn't say how it treats applicants below it. If you're under 3.5, apply anyway and give the firm other evidence: accounting grades, a clear CPA plan and a concrete example of using AI tools. The on-site rule is firmer. "Must be able to work 3 days/week on-site" is the only line in the list that says must.

What Skills Does Wiss Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Wiss's three January 2028 postings share the same soft-skill sentence: detail-oriented team players with "excellent verbal and written communication skills" and "effective problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills." What sets them apart from other firms' postings is the AI line. All three ask for a basic understanding of AI tools and prompting. The technical work differs by team: tax returns, 1099s and work papers in Tax; audit, review and compilation support in Assurance; and month-end close, reconciliations and journal entries in CAAS Advisory, where interns also get certified in QuickBooks Online and Bill.com. The Digital Technology internship is a coding role: one programming language, basic SQL and object-oriented programming, with AI exposure as a plus.

Method: full-text reading of all four Wiss intern postings in the firm's job portal feed on October 12, 2026 (Tax, Assurance and CAAS Advisory for January 2028, plus Digital Technology). The Digital Technology posting calls AI exposure a plus, so it isn't counted in the AI bar.
How Is Demand for Accounting Interns Moving Right Now?
Accounting intern postings · Sep vs Aug 2026
vs 362 in August
For Wiss applicants: Wiss had four internships in its job portal on October 12, 2026. Three start in January 2028 and were created on September 14, 2026, about 15.5 months ahead, and none states a deadline. No summer 2027 internship is listed, so the January 2028 cohort is the one to apply for now.
Daily US job-posting counts, Sep 1–30 vs Aug 1–31, 2026. Covers under half of US postings; shows direction, not market size. Pay = median of employer-published ranges only (83 postings in September, 44 in August).
Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each Wiss skill maps to a remote Externship, and the long wait before January 2028 leaves time to finish one.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| AI tools and prompting | Tax, Assurance and CAAS Advisory: "Basic understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and effective prompting techniques" | Wayfair n8n AI Agent Engineering |
| Intelligent document processing | Digital Technology: testing "automation scripts, AI-assisted coding tools, intelligent document processing" alongside Wiss Labs | Pfizer Advanced: AI-Powered Document Insights & Data Extraction |
| Reading financial statements | Assurance: "Assist with audit, review, and compilation engagements" | Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling |
| Building KPIs from business data | CAAS Advisory: "develop pertinent Key Performance Indicators for businesses, set targets, monitor progress" | Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy |
The AI match is the one to prioritize. It's the only technical skill that appears on all three January 2028 postings, and most accounting students can't yet point to a finished AI project.
What Is the Wiss Application and Interview Process Like?
Wiss doesn't publish its interview format, and we found no candidate accounts of it. Here is what the portal and the firm's early career page show:
1. Find the posting in the portal. Intern roles are in the firm's job portal, not in the short list on its careers page. Scroll the whole list, because a keyword search for "intern" returns only two of the four.
2. Apply to one team. Tax, Assurance and CAAS Advisory are separate postings with the same start month, so pick by the work you want.
3. Meet the firm on campus. The early career page says to "Connect with us at a fall or spring recruitment event on your campus." Its spring 2026 events included Rutgers-Newark, Monmouth University and Fairleigh Dickinson.
4. Interviews. Rounds and format aren't published. Be ready to explain your CPA plan, your spring schedule and how you've used AI tools.
5. Start. The cohort begins in January 2028, about 15 months after you apply.
Because the format isn't published, practice the general case. Our behavioral interview guide covers the question types most accounting firms use.
What the Community Says
We found no first-hand account of a Wiss internship on Reddit, so there are no community cards here. Most search results for the name are about a Philadelphia park. The firm appears in passing in a 2026 r/Accounting thread, where the poster lists Wiss among firms they believe are still independent of private equity. The nearest intern testimony is employer-published and old: a 2016 Wiss blog post in which tax interns describe balancing three workdays a week with a full course load.
How Do You Stand Out for a Wiss Internship?
Three moves. First, plan your spring 2028 schedule now and say so. Every January 2028 posting requires three days a week on site in Florham Park, so tell the recruiter which days you can keep free and how you'll get there. Second, bring a real AI example. The postings ask for a basic understanding of AI tools and prompting, and for the ability to use AI to work faster and solve problems. Describe one task where an AI tool saved you time and how you checked its output. Third, state your CPA plan. The postings call CPA intent "highly desired" and want students graduating within two years, so know your state's credit-hour path.
Wiss publishes no applicant count, internship class size or conversion rate. The one structural hint is the batch itself: entry-level staff roles for December 2027 in Tax, Assurance and CAAS Advisory were created the same morning as the internships.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2027 Wiss internship?
Probably not. No summer 2027 internship was listed in Wiss's job portal on October 12, 2026, and the firm has recruited its cohorts about a year or more ahead. What's open now is the January 2028 cohort in Tax, Assurance and CAAS Advisory, plus a Digital Technology internship with no season in its title.
When do Wiss internship applications open?
For January 2028, they're open now. The portal's timestamps show the Tax, Assurance and CAAS Advisory internships for January 2028 were created on September 14, 2026, about 15.5 months before the start. If Wiss keeps that timing, applications for January 2029 should open around mid-September 2027.
Is there a deadline for Wiss internships?
None is stated. The January 2028 postings give no closing date or review date. Don't read that as unlimited time: the firm loads its campus roles in one batch, and the spring 2027 internship it posted in fall 2025 is no longer on the board. Apply this fall if you want a January 2028 seat.
What GPA does Wiss want for interns?
The January 2028 Tax, Assurance and CAAS Advisory postings each list "3.5 GPA or higher" under Desired Characteristics. It's written as a preference, not a stated minimum, and Wiss doesn't say how it treats applicants below it. The postings also want accounting, taxation, finance or business majors graduating within two years.
What is the schedule for a Wiss internship?
Three days a week on site. All three January 2028 postings say "Must be able to work 3 days/week on-site," and every internship is based in Florham Park, New Jersey. That means building your spring 2028 class schedule around three office days. The postings don't state the internship's length in weeks.
How much do Wiss interns make?
Wiss doesn't publish it in its postings. None of the three January 2028 internship descriptions shows an hourly rate, and the Digital Technology posting says only "Compensation available." We don't repeat pay figures from job boards that the firm's own posting doesn't confirm, so ask the recruiter for the rate.
What is the Wiss Summer Leadership Program?
It's a short workshop series held over several days in late July, with two 2.5-hour sessions a day, for up to 40 students. Wiss says it's especially valuable for freshmen and sophomores studying accounting, finance or business analytics. It isn't an internship, and its application wasn't open on October 12, 2026.
Does Wiss sponsor visas for interns?
Not for the one internship that addresses it. The Digital Technology posting says applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship and that visa sponsorship isn't available. The January 2028 Tax, Assurance and CAAS Advisory postings don't mention work authorization, so international students should ask the recruiter before applying.
Wiss's January 2028 internships are open now, about 15 months before they start, so apply this fall. Then use the wait: a remote Externship gives you a finished AI, finance or data project to talk through in your interview.
