Last updated: October 2026
On 3 October 2026, Turner Construction had 119 US student postings live on its own careers board: 83 for summer 2027, 18 for spring 2027, and a handful of fall and year-round roles. Turner recruits one office at a time, from "Summer 2027 Construction Intern - Chicago" to "Summer 2027 Safety Intern - San Diego", and 77 of the summer postings went up in September. In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027, and you apply to the office where you want to work.
Turner calls itself the largest general contractor in the US. It says it welcomed a record 1,200 interns in summer 2026, employs more than 17,000 people and carries a record backlog of nearly $40 billion. Where Turner lists intern pay, it runs $20 to $28 an hour.

Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most often over 8 weeks. They work alongside a Turner application, not instead of one: the Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy Externship builds the schedule and material tracking a construction intern does daily, and the Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis Externship builds the cost work behind Turner's finance internships. What Is a Turner Construction Internship?
A Turner Construction internship is a paid summer placement with one Turner business unit, either on an active construction project site or in a main-office department. Construction interns support the project team with "meeting coordination, material tracking, file management, document control, and progress reporting," plus submittals, RFIs and change estimates. Safety, finance, supply chain and business interns follow their own duty lists.
Turner's May 2026 announcement says interns work with senior leaders, use its enterprise AI tools on site, and that finance interns get a dedicated five-week program on AI and emerging technologies.

When Do Turner Construction Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Turner doesn't post one national wave. Each office posts its own requisitions: Orlando and South Florida went first on 2 July 2026, Tampa on 7 July, Boston in August, and most offices in September, including 12 postings in Ohio and Michigan between 15 and 22 September and California and Texas additions on 28 September. That's roughly 8 to 11 months before a summer start.
Spring 2027 roles run on a shorter clock. Cincinnati/Kentucky and Indianapolis posted in February 2026, Boston in August and Tennessee and Alabama on 1 to 3 September, with several set to expire on 31 December. Late seats also open: an accounting student reported a Turner operational finance offer in April 2026.
Applications for summer 2027 are open right now in about 40 offices, and spring 2027 roles are open in Boston, Tennessee, Alabama, Cincinnati/Kentucky and Indianapolis. Apply to your office first, then build something you can talk about in the interview.
Offices interview and fill summer 2027 seats on their own timelines. Some postings are set to expire: New Jersey on 30 November, Connecticut finance on 18 December, Connecticut construction on 28 December, and Nashville finance plus the Tennessee and Alabama spring 2027 roles on 31 December.
Spring 2027 interns and co-ops are expected to start; the two Huntsville spring postings are set to expire on 31 January. Summer 2027 postings in most offices stay open with no end date.
Late openings for summer 2027 are possible; last cycle an operational finance offer came in April. Several Tennessee, Alabama and Cleveland summer postings are set to expire between 30 April and 21 May 2027.
The internship itself, on a project site or in a main office; Turner's postings say "Start Date: Summer 2027" without a day. Postings for summer 2028 are expected from about July to September 2027 if this year's pattern repeats.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Turner's postings are rolling, and each office runs its own. No posting states an application deadline, so the practical close is when that office has filled its seats. With 119 student postings and a record 1,200-intern class last summer, offices hire steadily through the fall rather than all at once.
Twenty-three postings do carry an expiry date in Turner's system, even though it isn't written in the posting text. The earliest is 30 November 2026 for New Jersey, then mid to late December for Connecticut, Nashville and the spring 2027 roles in Tennessee and Alabama. Check your office's posting now, and apply in October if you can.
Which Turner Construction Internship Programs Should You Target?
Turner has no single branded program. Each office posts by function, and here's how the 119 US student postings split on 3 October 2026:
| Track | Focus | Live US postings | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Construction / project engineering | Site or main-office support: coordination, submittals, RFIs, change estimates, take-offs | 55 | Construction management or engineering coursework |
| Safety | Safety program support, inspections, toolbox meetings, safety records | 35 | Safety coursework, OSHA basics |
| Finance / operational finance | Accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, monthly close, lien waivers, pay applications | 18 | Accounting or finance coursework |
| SourceBlue supply chain | Turner's supply chain business, four Texas offices | 4 | Supply chain or operations |
| Other business roles | HR, marketing, community and citizenship, IS support, Turner Foundation | 7 | Varies by posting |
Spring 2027 roles (18 postings) and summer/fall co-ops in Buffalo and Albany sit inside these tracks. Search all of them on the students board.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Turner's postings say very little about eligibility, so here's what's there and what isn't:
• Enrollment: currently enrolled students; 60 postings say the assignment can support "earning educational credits" where applicable.
• Major: construction management or engineering for construction roles, safety for safety roles, accounting or finance for finance roles.
• GPA: not stated in any student posting.
• Work authorization: no sponsorship or authorization line in the postings; ask the recruiter if it applies to you.
• Location: each posting is one business unit or region, so apply where you can live for the summer.

Does Turner Take Students Outside Construction Majors?
Yes, through the non-construction tracks. Finance and operational finance roles want accounting or finance students, the SourceBlue roles fit supply chain majors, and offices post HR, marketing and IS support internships.
For construction roles, a related major such as civil, mechanical or architectural engineering works. A Reddit commenter told an architectural engineering sophomore that Turner field experience is the best experience you can get.
What Skills Does Turner Construction Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Turner's postings use shared templates by track. Construction interns support meetings, material tracking, document control and progress reporting, then help with submittals, RFIs, quantity take-offs and estimates for changes in work. Safety interns help run the safety program, inspections and toolbox meetings, and finance interns work on payables, receivables and the monthly close.
No posting names a specific software tool, though Turner says interns use its enterprise AI tools.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Three of those duties can be practiced before day one:
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Material tracking and job schedules | "Support project team with meeting coordination, material tracking, file management, document control, and progress reporting" | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Estimates and finance work | "Assist with preparation of estimates for changes in work from subcontractors"; finance roles cover payables, receivables and the monthly close | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis |
| Document control and logs | Construction postings list file management, document control, submittals and RFIs | Breaking Games SQL Database Architecture |
None of these is a construction project. Each trains a habit the postings list and ends with finished work you can walk an interviewer through.
What Is the Turner Construction Application and Interview Process Like?
Turner doesn't publish its intern interview steps. This is the path its postings and community reports describe:
1. Find your office's posting. Search the students board by city; each business unit posts construction, safety and finance roles separately.
2. Apply to that office. Some regions cover several cities in one posting, such as the Carolinas or the Northern California Bay Area.
3. Meet Turner at a career fair. A Reddit commenter says a campus fair is how they landed a Turner internship.
4. Interview and offer. Offices interview on their own schedules; Turner doesn't publish the format.
5. Start on site or in the office. Placement depends on business need, and interns follow site safety rules and PPE from day one.
Since offices hire separately, prepare for the office you applied to: know its biggest local projects and the sectors it builds in, such as healthcare, data centers or education.
What Students on Reddit Say
Turner threads on Reddit come from interns, applicants and employees, and they agree on one point: the office and the mentor shape the summer.
A summer 2026 intern on a Los Angeles data center project said the people were friendly and held interns accountable without expecting them to be perfect in week one. Others advised showing up early, asking questions and volunteering for tasks.
A junior accounting student was offered a Turner operational finance internship at $27 an hour in April 2026; commenters called construction accounting a strong, less crowded niche.
Asked what Turner is like, commenters said it depends on the business unit and the project, and argued that starting at a large contractor means more training and an easier move to smaller firms later.
How Do You Stand Out for a Turner Internship?
Turner hired a record 1,200 interns in summer 2026 but doesn't publish applicant numbers, so we won't guess at the odds. Three moves fit how it hires:
1. Choose your office before you apply. Each business unit posts and hires separately. Apply where you can spend the summer, and check whether that posting has an expiry date.
2. Learn the vocabulary. Know what a submittal, an RFI and a change order are, and how a quantity take-off works. Safety applicants should know the basics of toolbox talks and jobsite inspections.
3. Think about spring. If your program allows a co-op semester, the 18 spring 2027 postings are a nearer door with fewer applicants than summer.
Turner doesn't publish a conversion rate, but says its internships are designed to lead to full-time roles.
