Last updated: October 2026
RubinBrown posts its internships 17 to 22 months before they start. On July 31, 2026, the St. Louis accounting firm posted 22 internship openings for 2028 in a single batch, and one more had gone up two weeks earlier. On October 12, 2026, its job board listed 26 internships: 13 for winter and spring 2028, 10 for summer 2028, and only three left for 2027. In plain words: you apply in 2026 or early 2027, and you intern in 2028, either from January in tax season or in summer.
That puts applications for summer 2028 about 22 months ahead of the internship. RubinBrown also publishes intern pay for some offices: $33 to $36 an hour for interns who work or live in Colorado, Nevada or Illinois.
What Is a RubinBrown Internship?
A RubinBrown internship is a full-time or part-time role in assurance, tax or small-business accounting at RubinBrown LLP, an accounting and consulting firm founded in 1952 and headquartered in St. Louis. The firm's campus recruiting page says the program gives students "the opportunity to experience working as a full-time team member, while also being mentored for future full-time opportunities." It runs twice a year: part-time or full-time during the winter and spring tax season, and full-time in summer. Each intern is assigned a Career Advocate.
RubinBrown's About page reports "revenue greater than $250 million with over 1,000 team members." The firm is ranked #30 on Vault's 2027 Most Prestigious Accounting Firms list. One name check: RubinBrown is unrelated to Brown & Brown, the insurance broker, which has its own internship guide.

When Do RubinBrown Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
RubinBrown's job board shows posting dates. One winter/spring 2028 tax role in Chicago went up on July 17, 2026, and 22 more 2028 roles followed on July 31, 2026, all on the same day. Applications for winter/spring 2028 therefore opened about 17 months before the start of January 2028, and applications for summer 2028 about 22 months before a typical June start (the summer postings say eight weeks or more, not a start date). The few 2027 roles came much later: a winter/spring 2027 Entrepreneurial Services role on August 20, 2026 and two summer 2027 RubinBrown Advisors roles on September 10, 2026. With one dated cycle to go on, we expect applications for 2029 to be posted around late July 2027.
Applications for winter/spring 2028 and summer 2028 are open: 23 postings across St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver, Chicago and Las Vegas, as of October 12, 2026. For 2027, only three roles remain, and the main assurance and tax internships for 2027 aren't on the board.
The 2028 postings are expected to stay up until each office fills them. The firm recruits through business schools, job fairs and campus visits. Take an auditing or tax class in this window if you can; the postings list it as preferred.
Applications for winter/spring 2029 and summer 2029 are expected to be posted around late July 2027, projected from the July 31, 2026 batch. Pathways, the one-day workshop for freshmen through juniors, is scheduled for August 2027 in six cities (St. Louis on August 11).
Winter/spring 2028 internships. The Chicago postings describe about 40 hours a week from the start of January through mid-March (assurance) or mid-April (tax). Private Client Services tax runs February to April 15 at 25 or more hours a week.
Summer 2028 internships: full-time for eight weeks or more, with a group project with fellow interns. The postings don't give start or end dates.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
RubinBrown's hiring is rolling, on a very long lead. None of the 26 internship postings states a deadline, so there's no date to circle. The pressure comes from the calendar instead. The firm posts each office, track and season as its own opening, about 17 to 22 months ahead, and the 2027 picture shows what happens to latecomers: on October 12, 2026, with summer 2027 still eight months away, the board had no 2027 assurance or tax internship left, only three specialty roles. A sophomore who waits until junior fall to look for a junior-summer internship will find it has been posted for more than a year. Apply when the posting for your office appears, and don't read a missing deadline as unlimited time.
Which RubinBrown Internship Programs Should You Target?
RubinBrown posts five internship tracks. Pathways is listed with them because students often confuse the two, but it's a one-day workshop.
| Program | Focus | Seasons and offices posted (Oct 12, 2026) | Key requirements |

| Tax Intern / Business Tax Intern | Federal, state and local tax compliance, workpapers; Chicago adds trial balances, reconciliations and real estate clients | Winter/spring 2028: St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver, Chicago. Summer 2028: St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver | Junior or senior status; Chicago asks for a 3.2 GPA |
| Private Client Services Tax Intern | Individual and trust tax returns, workpapers in Adobe Acrobat and Excel | Winter/spring 2028: St. Louis (February to April 15, minimum 25 hours a week) | Sophomore or junior status; tax classes preferred |

The campus recruiting page also names a CORE program as the first step before an internship, with no description, dates or posting, so we can't say more about it. All postings are on the RubinBrown job board.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Requirements differ by track, and most sit under "Preferred Experience" in the postings:
• Class year, assurance and tax: "Junior or Senior Status." The campus page says the program is designed for accounting and finance students "following their junior or senior year of college."
• Class year, Private Client Services tax: "Sophomore or Junior status" toward a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or a related field.
• Coursework: introductory accounting courses; "Prior completion of Auditing or Tax class is preferred."
• GPA: stated on two postings only. Chicago winter/spring 2028 tax asks for a "Minimum GPA of 3.20/4.00 or higher," and RubinBrown Advisors asks for a minimum 3.0. The standard assurance, tax and ESG postings name no GPA.
• ESG: pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related degree and working toward the CPA.
• Software: Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Work authorization: none of the 26 postings mentions visa sponsorship either way. Ask the recruiter.

Is There a GPA Cutoff at RubinBrown?
Only on some postings. The Chicago tax role states a 3.2 minimum and the RubinBrown Advisors role a 3.0. The other 23 internship postings list no GPA at all, so there's no firm-wide number to quote. Class year is the firmer filter: assurance and tax want juniors or seniors, which, on a 17 to 22 month lead, means applying as a sophomore or earlier in junior year. Read the posting for your own office before assuming either rule.

With 17 to 22 months between applying and a 2028 start, there's room to finish more than one Externship first.
What Is the RubinBrown Application and Interview Process Like?
RubinBrown doesn't publish its interview format. What its pages and postings show:
1. Pick the posting. Each office, track and season is a separate posting on the job board. Read yours closely, since GPA and class-year lines differ by track.
2. Apply on the board. The firm also recruits through business schools, job fairs and campus visits, so tell your campus recruiter you've applied.
3. Interview. The format and number of rounds aren't published, and we found no recent first-hand account. The only candidate note we found is a 2017 Reddit comment describing a live video interview for a Kansas City role.
4. Offer. Timing isn't published. With postings up 17 to 22 months early, expect a long gap between an offer and your start date.
5. Onboarding. Interns get an orientation, technology and department training, and a Career Advocate who helps set goals for the internship.
Since the format isn't published, prepare for standard behavioral questions with our behavioral interview guide.
What Students on Reddit Say
We found no first-hand account of a RubinBrown internship on Reddit, and Vault has no internship profile for the firm. The four threads that mention RubinBrown name it in passing, and the one process detail is a 2017 comment about a video interview. We haven't built quote cards from them.
How Do You Stand Out for a RubinBrown Internship?
Three moves. First, apply a year and a half to two years out. The 2028 postings have been up since July 31, 2026. If you're a sophomore aiming at a junior-year internship, the time to apply is this fall, not next fall. Second, pick the season and track on purpose. Winter/spring is tax season and can be part-time or full-time. Summer is full-time with a group intern project. Private Client Services tax takes sophomores, ESG is the generalist seat and the only track in Las Vegas, and RubinBrown Advisors suits finance-minded students. Third, take auditing or tax before you start. The assurance and tax postings list a finished auditing or tax class as preferred. Freshmen through juniors can also attend Pathways in August to meet the firm. RubinBrown publishes no applicant count, class size or conversion rate.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2027 RubinBrown internship?
Only for one track. On October 12, 2026, the only summer 2027 internships on RubinBrown's board were two RubinBrown Advisors wealth management roles, in St. Louis and Kansas City. No summer 2027 assurance or tax internship was posted. A winter/spring 2027 Entrepreneurial Services role in Kansas City was also open. Everything else is for 2028.
When do RubinBrown internship applications open for summer 2028?
They're open now. RubinBrown posted its summer 2028 assurance, tax and Entrepreneurial Services internships on July 31, 2026, about 22 months before a typical June start. Its winter/spring 2028 roles went up July 17 and July 31, about 17 months ahead. Applications for 2029 are expected around late July 2027.
Does RubinBrown have an internship application deadline?
No posting states one. Hiring is rolling, and each office, track and season is its own posting that stays up until it's filled. The risk is the long lead time: by October 2026 the board had no 2027 assurance or tax internship left, eight months before summer 2027 begins.
How much do RubinBrown interns make?
RubinBrown publishes $33.00 to $36.00 an hour for interns who work or live in Colorado, Nevada or Illinois, on an hourly range page linked from its Denver, Las Vegas and Chicago postings. It doesn't publish a rate for St. Louis or Kansas City, so don't assume the same figure applies in Missouri.
What GPA do you need for a RubinBrown internship?
It depends on the posting. The Chicago winter/spring 2028 tax role asks for a minimum 3.2, and the RubinBrown Advisors role asks for a minimum 3.0 with two years of undergraduate study. The standard assurance, tax and Entrepreneurial Services postings state no GPA; they list class year and accounting coursework instead.
How long is a RubinBrown internship?
Eight weeks or more on a full-time schedule, per the assurance and tax postings. Winter/spring internships usually run about 40 hours a week from the start of January to mid-March or mid-April. Private Client Services tax runs February to April 15 at 25 or more hours a week. Summer internships are full-time.
What is RubinBrown Pathways?
Pathways is a one-day, unpaid professional development workshop, not an internship. It's for freshmen, sophomores and juniors pursuing a business-related degree. The next sessions are posted for August 2027 in St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver, Chicago, Las Vegas and Nashville; the St. Louis session is August 11, in person, with no travel reimbursement.
Does RubinBrown sponsor visas for interns?
The postings don't say. None of the 26 internship postings on the board on October 12, 2026 mentions sponsorship or work authorization, in either direction. International students should ask the campus recruiter for their office before applying, and shouldn't assume a yes or a no from the silence.
RubinBrown's 2028 internships are posted now, and 2027 is nearly gone, so apply to your office's 2028 posting while it's up. Use the long wait before your start date to finish a remote Externship and bring a real project to your first day.
