Last updated: October 2026
Forvis Mazars recruits audit and tax interns about two years ahead. On 3 October 2026 its campus careers board listed 74 Winter 2028 and 31 Summer 2028 internships, most published in August 2026, while summer 2027 was down to 15 postings at a handful of offices. In plain words for accounting majors: you apply now, during 2026 and 2027, and you intern in winter or summer 2028. Consulting and advisory internships move on a shorter clock, and most of their summer 2027 roles have already closed. Forvis Mazars, LLP is the US member of Forvis Mazars Global, formed in its current shape in June 2024, with 7,000 team members serving clients in all 50 states. Where state law requires it, the firm publishes intern pay: $23 to $39 an hour across the 26 postings that list a figure.
What Is a Forvis Mazars Internship?
A Forvis Mazars internship is a paid, office-based placement in assurance, tax or advisory at one of the largest public accounting firms in the US. Audit interns test balances like cash and payables, reconcile account differences with client staff and draft management letter comments; tax interns prepare individual, corporate and partnership returns. Winter internships cover busy season, from early January to 15 April, and summer internships run from early June to mid-August. The firm took its current form on 1 June 2024, when Mazars USA joined FORVIS, itself created in 2022 from BKD and Dixon Hughes Goodman. It has 7,000 team members and runs separate Summer Leadership Programs for first-year students and sophomores.

When Do Forvis Mazars Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
The Summer 2028 audit and tax postings were published between 27 July and 25 September 2026, with a median of 12 August, for internships starting in early June 2028. That's a lead time of about 22 months. Winter 2028 postings went up between March and early September 2026 for a January 2028 start, about 17 months ahead. The summer 2027 wave followed the same pattern a year earlier, mostly published between August 2025 and January 2026, which is why so few seats remain. Advisory tracks run shorter: the summer 2027 IT Risk & Compliance and Sustainability postings went up in July and August 2026.
Applications are open right now for audit and tax internships in Winter 2028 (74 postings) and Summer 2028 (31). Summer 2027 is mid-cycle and mostly gone: 12 audit or tax postings and three advisory roles remain, down from 31 a week earlier.
Campus recruiting, Meet the Firms events and rolling interviews for the 2028 classes. Offices fill one by one, so the earlier you apply, the more offices still have seats.
Summer Leadership Program registration for first-year students and sophomores is expected during the spring semester, according to Forvis Mazars' students page.
Applications for summer 2028 consulting and advisory internships are expected, and the first audit and tax postings for winter and summer 2029 are expected from late July 2027.
Winter interns work busy season from early January to 15 April 2028; summer interns from early June to mid-August 2028. Training happens at the start of each season.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Forvis Mazars doesn't post a deadline, and none of the 149 live postings states one. Hiring is rolling and office by office, and the board shows how fast seats go. On 27 September 2026 the firm had 31 summer 2027 internships posted; by 3 October it had 15, and the Boston and Indianapolis audit postings were gone. Seven of the ten summer 2027 advisory roles closed in the same week. The 2028 postings have been up since August, and each office closes its posting once it's filled. If you know which office you want, apply now while it's still listed.
Which Forvis Mazars Internship Programs Should You Target?
Each office posts its own requisition for each season, so you choose a function, a season and an office.
| Program | Focus | Season | Live postings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Audit internship | Testing cash, payables and fixed assets; reconciliations; management letter drafts; client meetings | Winter 2028 / Summer 2028 | 34 / 13 |
| Tax internship | Individual, corporate and partnership returns; extensions and estimates | Winter 2028 / Summer 2028 | 40 / 17 |

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The postings are consistent across offices:
• Degree: enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program; audit and tax interns must be working toward an accounting degree and CPA exam eligibility.
• CPA intent: audit and tax interns must be interested in getting a CPA license after graduation.
• GPA: "Interns must maintain a minimum cumulative overall GPA of 3.0" appears on 130 of the 149 live postings; advisory postings ask for 3.0 or higher in your major and overall.
• Work authorization: every posting says visa sponsorship isn't available.
• Transportation: reliable transportation to your office and off-site client meetings.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff?
Treat it as one. The postings say interns must "maintain" a 3.0 cumulative GPA, which reads as a condition of keeping the offer as well as getting it. If you're close to 3.0, a strong accounting GPA and a clear CPA plan help your case, but there's no stated exception.

What Skills Does Forvis Mazars Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Forvis Mazars writes one template for audit and tax internships and reuses it across offices, so the same requirements appear almost everywhere: technical accounting knowledge, Microsoft Office, time management, attention to detail and the ability to work under deadlines. What changes is the function. Audit postings describe testing and reconciliations; tax postings describe return preparation. The advisory roles add cyber, data or healthcare knowledge on top.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each row pairs a skill from Forvis Mazars' postings with a remote Externship where you finish a real company project.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Financial statements & valuation | Audit testing of cash, payables and fixed assets; Forensics & Valuation advisory | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis |
| Technical accounting & modeling | "Solid technical accounting knowledge" on audit and tax postings | Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling |
| Cyber risk | IT Risk & Compliance (Cyber) internship | Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense |
| Healthcare operations | Healthcare Consulting and Healthcare Reimbursement internships | Healthcare Operations Consulting |
| Data & analytics | Analytics and IT audit work; data skills in consulting postings | Breaking Games SQL Database Architecture |
For audit and tax, the strongest signal is still your accounting coursework and CPA plan. A finished project adds a concrete example of working with real numbers under a deadline, which is what the postings ask for.
What Is the Forvis Mazars Application and Interview Process Like?
Forvis Mazars doesn't publish its interview steps. From the postings and students who've been through it, the path looks like this:
1. Apply to an office and season. Each office posts its own requisition, so pick the city where you want to work and the season (winter or summer).
2. Campus events. Meet the Firms and campus events are part of recruiting; one student's 2024 offer came through Meet the Firms.
3. Recruiter screen. Students describe a phone screen before interviews.
4. Interviews, sometimes with a partner. A student in October 2025 described a partner interview for a New York audit internship.
5. Offer and training. Interns train at the start of their season; summer 2026 interns trained in June, and spring interns in January.
Expect behavioral questions about teamwork, deadlines and why you want public accounting.
What Students on Reddit Say
Most Forvis Mazars threads are on r/Accounting and r/Big4, and they're candid about timing and offers.
A student was hired in fall 2023 for a summer 2025 internship, almost two years out. In February 2025 the firm said it had over-hired for that summer and offered a spring or summer 2026 slot instead. Commenters said it happens in public accounting but stung.
Interns compared notes on training: summer 2026 interns trained in June in Orlando and spring interns trained in January. A later commenter said the firm had been taking plenty of interns but couldn't offer everyone a full-time role because of business need.
A student turned down a Forvis offer from Meet the Firms because of the assigned office and then regretted it. Most replies said the same thing: if it's your only offer, take it.
How Do You Stand Out at a National Accounting Firm?
Three moves. First, choose your office and season on purpose. There are 74 Winter 2028 postings against 31 for Summer 2028, and busy season is when interns do the most real audit and tax work, which is also what students on r/Accounting recommend. Second, make your CPA plan concrete: the postings require you to be working toward CPA exam eligibility, so say which credits you'll finish and when. Third, apply early to the offices you'd actually move to. Every posting requires reliable transportation and on-site work, and community threads show students regretting offers in offices they didn't want. On return offers, Forvis Mazars doesn't publish a rate, and students on Reddit in 2025 and 2026 reported interns who didn't receive one, so treat the internship as an audition and not a guarantee.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2027 Forvis Mazars internship?
Only at a few offices. On 3 October 2026, 15 summer 2027 internships remained: 12 audit or tax postings in places like Springfield, Jacksonville, Tysons and Pittsburgh, plus three advisory roles. Most summer 2027 seats were filled during 2025. For audit and tax, the main openings now are winter and summer 2028.
How far ahead does Forvis Mazars hire audit and tax interns?
About 17 months ahead for winter internships and about 22 months ahead for summer ones. The Summer 2028 postings were published between late July and late September 2026, with a median of 12 August, for internships that start in early June 2028.
Is there a deadline for Forvis Mazars internships?
No posting states one. Hiring is rolling and office by office, and a posting comes down once that office has filled its seats. Between 27 September and 3 October 2026, the number of summer 2027 internships listed fell from 31 to 15, so apply early to the offices you want.
How much do Forvis Mazars interns make?
Where state law requires a pay range, the postings list $23 to $39 an hour: for example $35 in Chicago, $30 in Boston and Minnesota, $28 to $32 in New York and $36 in Virginia. Postings in other states don't publish a figure, so don't assume those rates apply everywhere.
What GPA do I need for a Forvis Mazars internship?
A 3.0. Most postings say interns must maintain a minimum cumulative overall GPA of 3.0, and advisory postings ask for 3.0 or higher in your major and overall. The firm doesn't describe any exceptions, so treat it as a firm cutoff when you decide where to apply.
Do I need to be an accounting major?
For audit and tax, effectively yes. You must be working toward an accounting degree and CPA exam eligibility and be interested in getting licensed. Advisory internships are broader: business consulting has listed business, supply chain, data analytics, computer science and engineering majors, and IT Risk takes information systems students.
Does Forvis Mazars sponsor visas for interns?
No. Each posting says visa sponsorship isn't available for the position, and applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. International students who'd need sponsorship to start or to continue into a full-time role should plan around that before applying.
I'm a first-year or sophomore. What can I do now?
Watch for Forvis Mazars' Summer Leadership Programs, which are aimed at high-performing first-year students and sophomores, with registration during the spring semester. Then apply for a winter or summer internship roughly two years before you want to start, which is how the firm's audit and tax calendar works.
Forvis Mazars is choosing its 2028 audit and tax interns now. Apply to the offices you want, and use the months before interviews to add a finished project: a remote Externship gives you real financial work to talk about.
