Last updated: October 2026
Provident Bank's internship is easy to miss, because it doesn't follow the fall calendar most bank recruiting runs on. The New Jersey bank posts one requisition for its whole summer program, and archived copies show past ones live between February and May: the summer 2023 posting was up on February 7, 2023, and the "Summer 2025 Internship" posting was still open on May 11, 2025 for a June start. On October 12, 2026, Provident's careers board listed 110 open jobs and no internship. In plain words: you apply in the first half of 2027, you intern in summer 2027.
This page covers Provident Bank of Iselin, New Jersey, the subsidiary of Provident Financial Services (NYSE: PFS). Several unrelated companies share the name. The evidence on timing is thin, so every date below is an estimate.
What Is a Provident Bank Internship?
A Provident Bank internship is a paid, 10-week summer program at Provident Bank, the commercial bank based in Iselin, New Jersey and owned by Provident Financial Services (NYSE: PFS). Its corporate profile says the bank was established in 1839 and serves northern and central New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and Queens County, New York. Each intern is placed in one department, from commercial lending and credit underwriting to BSA compliance, information security and IT, and the bank's last posting called interns "a key component to our talent pipeline." The program ranks #6 on Vault's 2026 Best Financial Services Internships list, and Vault also placed it #9 for culture of acceptance. Make sure you have the right Provident: Provident Bank in California and Provident Healthcare Partners, a healthcare investment bank, are unrelated employers, and their internship dates don't apply here.

When Do Provident Bank Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Provident hasn't published an internship timeline, so this one is rebuilt from archived copies of its own postings. The summer 2023 posting was live on February 7, 2023, about four months before a June start. The summer 2022 posting was already marked filled on May 23, 2022. The summer 2025 posting was still taking applications on May 11, 2025, about a month before the program began. We found no posting for summer 2026 at all, though the program is on Vault's 2026 list. That's three sightings in three different years, which is thin. The honest reading: applications for summer 2027 are expected some time between about February and May 2027, and nothing points to a fall posting.
Applications for summer 2027 aren't open. On October 12, 2026, Provident's careers board listed 110 jobs and no internship, and nothing suggests this bank recruits interns in the fall. This window is when you build the proof.
Set a job alert on the careers board and decide which department fits your major. From January, check the board every couple of weeks for a posting titled like "Summer 2027 Internship."
The summer 2027 posting is expected somewhere in this window (low confidence). The summer 2023 posting was live on February 7, 2023, and the summer 2025 posting was still open on May 11, 2025.
Interviews for summer 2027. Interns told Vault there were two rounds: one with the recruiter, then one with the managers of the department and office they'd join.
The 10-week summer 2027 internship. Interns describe a training week, an assigned mentor, networking events and an intern class team project.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
We can't read an urgency mode off a live posting, because there isn't one. What the archived postings show is mixed. Neither the summer 2023 nor the summer 2025 posting states a deadline. The 2023 one was up by early February for a June start, which suggests a long window. But the summer 2022 posting was already marked "this position has been filled" on May 23, 2022, so a posting can also be gone before the summer starts. One more detail matters: a single posting covers every department. The 2025 version listed ten of them, and the bank doesn't say how many interns each takes. So don't plan around a closing date. Set the job alert, and apply in the first week the summer 2027 posting appears.
Which Provident Bank Internship Programs Should You Target?
Provident runs one summer internship and places each intern in a department. Its summer 2025 posting listed ten departments, and the list may change for summer 2027.
| Area | Departments named in the 2025 posting | What interns told Vault | Useful background |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lending and credit | Credit Underwriting Support, CRE Lending, C&I Lending, Specialty Lending | Reviewing loans, finding margins, covenant tests and annual reviews in Excel | Accounting, finance or economics; Excel |
| Compliance | BSA/Fraud, BSA Compliance | Researching regulatory changes and tracking regulations with coding and automation | Business or finance; attention to detail |
| Technology and security | Information Security, IT - Infrastructure Engineering | No intern account found | Computer science, data analytics or information security |
| Operations and projects | Project Management Office, Operations/Process Improvement | Identifying process improvements | Business administration; multitasking |
There's no standing internship page. The program appears as a single posting on the Provident careers board, and the same board also carries jobs at the bank's Beacon Trust and Provident Protection Plus subsidiaries.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
No posting is live, so these are the last published terms, from the summer 2025 posting:
• Enrollment: "College students on their way to earning a bachelor's degree from an accredited university." No class year is specified.
• Majors: accounting, finance, business administration, economics, marketing, computer science, data analytics or information security.
• GPA: "A cumulative 3.0 GPA required."
• Tools: proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Skills: communication, critical thinking and logical reasoning, math, attention to detail and the ability to meet short deadlines.
• Work authorization: not stated in the posting. Vault's profile lists international students as not eligible, so confirm with the recruiter.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff at Provident Bank?
In 2025 it was written as one: "A cumulative 3.0 GPA required." Two years earlier the bank was softer. The summer 2023 posting said "GPA 3.0 + preferred." The rule tightened between those two postings, so assume it's a requirement for summer 2027 and check the wording when the posting appears. Location matters too. The work is in person at corporate offices in New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, and the 2023 posting said interns should be willing to travel to other locations.

What Skills Does Provident Bank Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Provident's postings ask for general skills, not specialist ones. Both archived postings want Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), strong written and verbal communication, math skills and attention to detail, plus the ability to meet deadlines and work independently. The 2025 posting adds "critical thinking and logical reasoning skills." The department decides what you do with them. A lending intern told Vault they would "look at different loans and determine if they are good for the bank or not," using Excel, and a compliance intern described tracking regulations "through coding and automation."

Each Provident department maps to a remote Externship that gives you a finished project to discuss in interviews.

What Is the Provident Bank Application and Interview Process Like?
Provident doesn't publish its process. Here's what its postings and interns surveyed by Vault describe:
1. Set a job alert. The careers board lets you create an alert, which matters because the internship is a single posting that appears once a year.
2. Apply to the one posting. It covers every department, so say in your resume or cover letter which one fits your major.
3. Recruiter round. Interns told Vault the first interview was with the recruiter. One had sent their resume to the recruiter on LinkedIn.
4. Manager round. The second round was "with the managers of the department and office I would be working at."
5. Ten weeks from June. Interns describe a week of training, a randomly assigned mentor, networking events and a class team project.
The reported questions are behavioral, such as "When have you disagreed with a teammate?" Our behavioral interview guide covers how to structure those answers.
What Interns Say on Vault
We found no Reddit threads about this internship, so these cards use first-hand intern responses from Vault's survey.
One intern described two rounds: a recruiter they'd sent a resume to on LinkedIn, then the managers of the department and office they'd join. Another said the process was prompt and made them feel valued.
Interns reported normal corporate hours, 8:30 to 5:00 and about 37.5 hours a week, with no work to take home, a week of training up front and a mentor assigned to each intern.
On pay, one intern called it above minimum wage for a starting position, with discounts on trips and apparel. Another called it very competitive and mentioned theme park discounts and free counseling.
The complaints were mild: covenant tests and annual reviews got repetitive, and one intern felt a disconnect on days when they and their manager worked in different offices.
How Do You Stand Out for a Provident Bank Internship?
Three moves. First, get the timing and the employer right. Don't wait for a fall posting, and don't apply to another Provident by mistake. Set the alert on careers.provident.bank and check from January 2027. Second, name a department. One posting fills ten areas, from C&I lending to information security, so say which fits your major and why. A lending applicant who can read a balance sheet, or a security applicant with a finished project, is easier to place. Third, prepare behavioral stories. The reported questions are about teamwork, disagreement and what you want from the summer, and the second round is with the managers you'd work for. Provident publishes no class size, acceptance rate or conversion rate, so we don't print one.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2027 Provident Bank internship?
Not yet, because it hasn't been posted. On October 12, 2026, Provident's careers board listed 110 open jobs and no internship. The bank posts one requisition for the whole program, and archived copies show past postings live between February and May. Summer 2026 is over, so watch the board from January 2027.
When do Provident Bank internship applications open for summer 2027?
The bank hasn't published a date. Based on archived postings, expect the summer 2027 requisition between about February and May 2027: the summer 2023 posting was live on February 7, 2023, and the summer 2025 posting was still open on May 11, 2025. Treat that as a low-confidence estimate.
Does Provident Bank hire interns on a rolling basis?
It isn't clear. Neither archived posting states a deadline, and the summer 2023 one was up by early February for a June start, which suggests a long window. But the summer 2022 posting was already marked filled on May 23, 2022. Apply when the posting appears, and don't count on it lasting.
Is the Provident Bank internship paid?
Yes. The bank's summer 2025 posting said: "Our summer internships are paid positions." It didn't publish an hourly rate, and no posting is live to check. Interns told Vault the pay is "above minimum wage for a starting position" and comes with employee discounts. Look for a pay range on the summer 2027 posting.
What GPA do you need for a Provident Bank internship?
The summer 2025 posting said "a cumulative 3.0 GPA required." The summer 2023 posting was softer, saying a GPA of 3.0 or above was preferred. Both wanted students working toward a bachelor's degree in fields such as accounting, finance, business, economics, computer science, data analytics or information security.
What is the Provident Bank internship interview like?
Interns told Vault it took two rounds: one with the recruiter, then one with the managers of the department and office they'd join. Reported questions are behavioral, such as "When have you disagreed with a teammate?" and "What do you want to get out of this internship?" One intern called the process prompt.
Which Provident Bank runs this internship?
Provident Bank of Iselin, New Jersey, the subsidiary of Provident Financial Services (NYSE: PFS), established in 1839. Its jobs are at careers.provident.bank. Provident Bank in California and Provident Healthcare Partners are unrelated employers with their own hiring calendars, so dates you see under those names don't apply to this program.
Do Provident Bank interns get full-time offers?
The bank doesn't publish a conversion rate. Its summer 2025 posting called interns "a key component to our talent pipeline," and Vault ranks the program #40 for employment prospects among 2026 internships. That's the only evidence available, so ask your recruiter how many recent interns were hired.
Provident's summer 2027 posting isn't up, and past ones appeared between February and May. Set the job alert, then use the months before it: a remote Externship gives you a finished finance, security or operations project to name in your application.
