PNC Internship 2027–2028: Programs, Deadlines & How to Apply
Last updated: August 2026
PNC's summer-2027 internship applications went live on 3 August 2026, covering 22 requisitions across 62 locations, all verified on PNC's own applicant-tracking system on 15 August 2026. And PNC's own advice is to apply by 16 September. Individual requisitions state they're "expected to be posted for two business days." In 2024, PNC hosted nearly 500 summer interns from 166 colleges across 52 markets, its largest geographic spread ever. But there's a catch: Harris Williams, PNC's investment-banking subsidiary, already closed its 2027 Summer Analyst applications back in ~February 2026.

What Is a PNC Internship?
A PNC internship is a paid, 10-week summer placement at one of the ten largest U.S. banks, with $616 billion in assets and a coast-to-coast franchise across all 30 of the country's largest markets. PNC is one of the largest commercial and industrial real estate lenders in the U.S., one of the top treasury management providers, and posted record revenue of $23.1 billion in FY2025. So what makes it unusual for a bank this size? Twenty-two separately posted intern tracks, each with its own GPA floor and location set, so you're applying to a specific line of business from day one.

When Do PNC Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
PNC's calendar is unusually transparent: the company itself says applications open each August and encourages applying by 16 September. The summer-2027 wave went live on 3 August 2026, and all 22 undergraduate intern requisitions were still returning live records on PNC's own ATS on 15 August 2026, with no hard close date on any of them. But there's one complication: Harris Williams, PNC's investment-banking subsidiary, runs a separate calendar roughly six months ahead.
Applications are open right now. PNC posted its full summer-2027 wave on 3–7 August 2026: 22 undergraduate intern requisitions across 62 locations, with no hard deadline on any of them. Apply now, and no later than 16 September. One caveat: Harris Williams, PNC's investment-banking arm, already closed its 2027 Summer Analyst applications back in ~February 2026.
PNC's stated soft cutoff: “We encourage you to apply by September 16. After this time, opportunities may begin to become more limited.” Pick your track carefully (there are 22 with different GPA floors and locations), tailor the resume to that line of business, and join PNC's Talent Community for updates.
Interviews. PNC's own hiring timeline names both the line-of-business interview and the final-round Super Day. Students report a pre-recorded video screen first, then a Super Day of two or three ~30-minute rounds that run mostly behavioural with light technicals on finance tracks.
PNC's own wording: “Depending on the outcomes of the interview process, opportunities may be re-posted throughout the winter, so check back often.” This is the second chance, but the roles reposted here are the ones that didn't fill in the fall.
The internship: 10 weeks, in-office, with peer mentors and a real project. For C&IB interns, a direct pipeline into the C&IB Development Program after graduation. PNC expects applications for summer 2028 to open ~August 2027, on the same annual pattern.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
PNC isn't rolling. Why does that matter? Individual requisitions say they're "expected to be posted for two business days" (13 of 22 carry this sentence), which is the shortest nominal window we've measured in this pipeline. PNC backs this up with a program-level soft cutoff: apply by 16 September, after which "opportunities may begin to become more limited." Roles may reappear in winter, but those are leftovers from a process already underway. The window is short, not rolling, and the first two weeks of August are the widest it gets.
Which PNC Internship Programs Should You Target?
PNC runs 22 separately posted intern tracks, and you apply to the specific one. There's no umbrella application. And the tracks differ on GPA floor (3.0 vs 3.2), location set (1 city vs 25) and hiring timeline, so choosing wrong costs you the application itself.

PNC runs no co-op and no semester placement. See the full list at careers.pnc.com.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Every PNC intern requisition lists explicit requirements, and three facts are unusually hard gates:
• Enrollment: working toward a bachelor's degree. 16 of 22 reqs name junior status; 4 (Technology, Commercial & Corporate Banking, Retail Banking, Realty Services) accept sophomores or juniors.
• GPA: 14 of 22 reqs state a minimum of 3.2 (the C&IB banking desks, Asset Management, Wealth Management, Product Innovation, IRM, Data/Modeling/Analytics). 8 state 3.0 (Technology, Internal Audit, HR, Supply Chain, Retail Banking, Realty Services, Tax Credit, Corporate Finance & Accounting).
• Work authorization: 22 of 22 reqs carry the identical sentence: "PNC will not provide sponsorship for employment visas or participate in STEM OPT for this position." This applies across every line of business, including Technology.
• In-office: 22 of 22 reqs state "PNC is an in-office company." Not remote.

Is the GPA a Hard Cutoff?
PNC writes "minimum," not "preferred," so unlike some peers this reads as a real floor on the tracks that state it. But does that mean a 3.1 GPA rules you out? Not across the board. The floor differs by track by a full 0.2, and the 3.0 tracks aren't marginal: Technology, Internal Audit, Human Resources, Supply Chain, Retail Banking and Corporate Finance & Accounting all sit at 3.0. A student at 3.05 who applies to a C&IB desk gets filtered on GPA; the same student applying to Technology or Internal Audit doesn't. Corporate Finance & Accounting softens it further to "preferred minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0."
What Skills Does PNC Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Twenty-two live PNC intern job descriptions share one standard Competencies block (attention to detail, analytical thinking, communication, adaptability, information capture, initiative, product knowledge, self-directed growth) that appears in every single one. That block doubles as a behavioural-interview syllabus. But beyond that block, the track-specific prose is where the real differentiators show up. What actually separates one track from another? Client relationship work dominates (18 of 22), followed by deal, sales and project support (18 of 22) and then a clear split between banking-desk skills (credit underwriting, investment/portfolio, risk management) and corporate-function skills (data analysis, regulatory compliance, technology/automation).
What PNC looks for in interns
Skills across 22 PNC intern & analyst job descriptions · Live summer-2027 requisitions, posted 3–7 August 2026
Method: full-text analysis of 22 PNC undergraduate intern job descriptions from the live summer-2027 requisitions, posted 3–7 August 2026, read in full from PNC's own applicant-tracking system on 15 August 2026. Template caveat: PNC applies one standard 8-item Competencies block to all 22 requisitions (Accuracy and Attention to Detail, Analytical Thinking, Effective Communications, etc.), so those eight are a house style, not a differentiator, and are excluded. Counting caveat: rows 2 and 3 come from PNC's standard Job Profile paragraph; rows 4–9 come from track-specific prose. Coverage caveat: counts were taken from the narrative portion only, excluding the preferred-majors list and legal boilerplate.
How Is Demand for Commercial Banking Interns Moving Right Now?
Commercial banking intern hiring right now: August 2026
Across roughly 220–275 US commercial banking and credit analyst intern postings tracked this month · aggregate market data, all employers
August 2026 is this tracker's baseline month for commercial banking interns, so month-over-month shifts appear at the next update. The early signal: the market's top three skills (credit 90%, analytical 88%, relationships 82%) match PNC's own JDs almost exactly.
Method: aggregate analysis of US commercial banking, retail banking and credit analyst intern postings via Adzuna and ZipRecruiter, August 2026 baseline. Sample indexes under half of all US postings; figures show direction and relative level, not total market share.
Build These Skills Before You Apply
And every bar in the chart maps to a remote Externship that ends in a finished company project.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Financial analysis, valuation and modelling | R231489: “economic and regulatory capital… performance and valuation metrics”; R230897: underwriting and loan structuring | Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling |
| Corporate FP&A and private-company analysis | R231489 Corporate Finance & Accounting: “support financial operations and reporting within PNC's Finance organization” | Attronica FP&A: Private Company Valuation |
| Deal sourcing, prescreen and client research | R230897: “pre-call planning, client research, pre-screen, relationship reviews, and loan structuring” | Mangusta Capital Deal Sourcing & Startup Analysis |
| Data analysis, metrics and reporting | R231464: “data analysis and metrics, policy and procedures development”; R231526: “SQL, Python, R, and/or Tableau” | Beats by Dre Data Analytics |
| Technology-track AI/automation work | R231441: “machine learning development, automating current manual processes, infrastructure provisioning, and outer API servicing” | Wayfair AI Agent Engineering |
How close is the overlap? The Yinan Zhao deliverable is investment analysis in the C&IB posting's own vocabulary, and the Attronica project is private-company valuation work for a Corporate Finance & Accounting application.
What Is the PNC Application and Interview Process Like?
How many stages does PNC's funnel actually have? More than you'd expect, with two vendor steps that PNC confirms exist without naming:
1. Go to PNC's intern job list and pick a specific requisition. There's no umbrella application, and PNC caps you at five active applications at once. Check the GPA floor (3.0 vs 3.2) and location set before you apply.
2. Apply now, and no later than 16 September. Individual reqs say they're "expected to be posted for two business days." PNC uses Workday as its ATS.
3. Pre-recorded video screen. PNC confirms "some roles require the completion of a pre-recorded virtual interview" before a live interview. Students report this as a HireVue (community-reported vendor name).
4. Coded assessment (Technology track only). PNC confirms a pre-employment assessment exists. Students report a 60-minute CodeVue exercise (community-reported vendor name).
5. Line-of-business interview, then Super Day. PNC names both on its own hiring timeline. Students describe the Super Day as two or three rounds of about 30 minutes, mostly behavioural ("why finance, why PNC," walk through your resume), with light technicals on finance tracks. PNC confirms that generative AI is not permitted in interviews or assessments.
So what does PNC confirm vs what's community-only? The pre-recorded video screen, a pre-employment assessment, a panel final round and Super Day all exist per PNC's own pages. But the vendor names HireVue and CodeVue, the round count, the question format and the behavioural emphasis are community-reported.
What Students on Reddit Say
Three threads from PNC applicants and offer holders.
Three interviews, 30 minutes each, purely behavioural. Expect 'why finance' and 'why PNC.' Know your resume cold.
Did the superday and got the offer. Mostly behavioural with a few basic technicals, like explaining the three financial statements and how they link.
Did the Technology internship interview and got the offer. Straightforward, no coding questions asked during the interview itself. Be ready to talk through past technology projects.
How Do You Stand Out Across 22 Requisitions?
Three moves, starting with the track. Twenty-two requisitions are live simultaneously with different GPA floors (3.0 vs 3.2) and different location sets (1 city vs 25). A student at 3.05 who applies to C&IB gets filtered; the same student applying to Technology or Internal Audit doesn't. Pick the track where you're eligible, not the one that sounds most impressive. And second, say you'll move. PNC's Real Estate Banking requisition states outright: "Geographic flexibility is important to your success in this program." Naming three cities you'd relocate to is a real differentiator on a multi-location req. And third, prepare eight STAR stories. PNC's eight-item competency block (attention to detail, analytical thinking, communication, adaptability, information capture, initiative, product knowledge, self-directed growth) is identical across all 22 reqs and maps directly onto the Super Day format students describe.

What Other Companies Should You Consider?

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 PNC internship?
No. PNC's summer-2026 class started in June 2026 and those requisitions are gone. What's open instead is better news: PNC posted its entire summer-2027 wave on 3 August 2026, and 22 undergraduate intern requisitions were still live in mid-August. Apply now, and by 16 September at the latest.
Is any PNC internship already closed for summer 2027?
Yes, one. Harris Williams, PNC's investment-banking arm, recruits on its own calendar roughly 16 months ahead: its 10-week 2027 Summer Analyst applications were due around February 2026 and that requisition is closed. Its two-week Boot Camp closes 18 August 2026. Every one of PNC's own 22 intern tracks is still open.
When do PNC internship applications open for summer 2027?
They're already open. PNC states applications open each August, and the summer-2027 wave went live on 3 to 7 August 2026 across 22 requisitions and 62 locations. PNC has no universal deadline but encourages applying by 16 September, after which opportunities become more limited.
Are PNC internships rolling?
Not exactly. Each requisition says it's "expected to be posted for two business days," which is a short window rather than a rolling one. PNC has no universal deadline, advises applying by 16 September, and says roles may be re-posted throughout the winter if interviews don't fill them.
What GPA does PNC require for an internship?
It depends on the track. Fourteen of the 22 live summer-2027 requisitions state a minimum GPA of 3.2, and eight state 3.0. The 3.0 tracks include Technology, Internal Audit, Human Resources, Supply Chain Management, Retail Banking and Corporate Finance & Accounting. PNC writes "minimum," not "preferred."
Does PNC sponsor visas for interns?
No. All 22 live summer-2027 intern requisitions carry the identical sentence: "PNC will not provide sponsorship for employment visas or participate in STEM OPT for this position." That applies across every line of business, including Technology. PNC's wording is unusually explicit here.
How much do PNC interns get paid?
PNC publishes pay ranges inside its own requisitions. Most summer-2027 intern roles list $18.00 to $35.00 per hour, and the Internal Audit and Data, Modeling and Analytics roles list $25.24 to $42.07 per hour. Actual pay varies by city, since single requisitions cover up to 25 locations.
What is the PNC intern interview process like?
Typically a pre-recorded video interview, then a line-of-business interview, then a Super Day final round. PNC names both the line-of-business interview and Super Day on its own hiring timeline. Students describe two or three roughly 30-minute rounds that are mostly behavioural, with light technicals on finance tracks.
PNC's applications are open right now, and the window is short. Individual reqs say they'll be posted for two business days, and PNC's own advice is to be in by 16 September. So apply first, then build the proof: a remote Externship turns "interested in banking" into a finished financial-analysis project your Super Day interviewers can see.
