Last updated: October 2026

NXP's own Workday site listed six US internship postings on 26 October 2026, and five are titled Summer 2027: three engineering interns at the Chandler, Arizona fab, and Field Applications Engineer and Technical Sales Engineer interns in Austin, Novi and San Jose. They were posted on 1 and 6 October 2026, and the sales and applications postings say applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and that positions fill quickly. In plain words: you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027. NXP says it granted 790 internships globally in 2025 and converted 60% of those interns into full-time team members.

What Is an NXP Semiconductors Internship?

An NXP internship is a paid summer placement at a semiconductor company that NXP describes as present in more than 30 countries with about 32,000 team members. In the US, the internships on NXP's Workday site split into two groups: the Americas Global Sales & Applications Summer Internship, and engineering placements at the Chandler, Arizona manufacturing campus.

The sales and applications internship is a 12-week program for rising juniors, seniors and graduate students. Interns join the Field Application Engineering or Field Sales team with a mentor, take part in cohort events and present a final capstone to leadership. The Chandler postings cover facilities project management, equipment maintenance and photolithography equipment, and one design posting covers the digital backend flow from synthesis to GDSII layout. NXP's students page calls its student programs its primary pipeline for new graduate hires.

When Do NXP Semiconductors Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

NXP's Summer 2027 US postings are already up. The Photolithography Equipment Intern posting went live on 1 October 2026 and the Project Engineer, Equipment Engineer, Field Applications Engineer and Technical Sales Engineer postings on 6 October 2026, according to the dates on NXP's Workday site. The sales and applications postings ask for availability for 12 weeks full-time during May to August 2027.

That's a lead time of about 7 months from the 6 October posting to a May start. We couldn't recover the Summer 2026 posting dates from NXP's own system, so the pattern for the next cycle is a projection with low confidence.

Applications are open. Six US internship postings were live on 26 October 2026, five titled Summer 2027. The sales and applications postings are reviewed on a rolling basis and say positions fill quickly.

1 and 6 October 2026

NXP posted the Photolithography Equipment Intern on 1 October and four more Summer 2027 postings on 6 October. A Digital Physical Design (P&R) Intern posting has been up since 13 July 2026 and names no term.

Now to spring 2027 (no closing date)

No posting states a deadline. NXP doesn't publish interview steps, and the sales and applications postings say preferred location will be discussed during the interview process.

Summer 2027 · May – August

Sales and applications interns work 12 weeks full-time with a mentor and finish with a capstone presentation to leadership. The Chandler project engineering intern presents to site leadership at the end.

From about October 2027EXPECTED

Summer 2028 postings are expected if the 2026 pattern repeats. Low confidence: we couldn't recover last cycle's posting dates from NXP's own system, only that the Summer 2026 Field Applications Engineer posting existed and is closed.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

NXP's sales and applications postings state it directly: applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, early application is strongly encouraged and positions fill quickly. There's no closing date, so a posting can come down the day it's filled.

The Chandler postings carry no deadline text, but each is a single requisition for one site, so the same logic applies. One further rule matters if you're graduating soon: the Chandler postings say that if you graduate before July 2027, you should apply to entry-level full-time roles instead.

Which NXP Semiconductors Internship Programs Should You Target?

NXP's US internships fall into a customer-facing track and an engineering track at the Chandler fab. Pick by whether you want to work with customers or on the factory floor.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Each posting sets its own gates:

• Field Applications Engineer and Technical Sales Engineer interns: pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, mechatronics or a related field (computer science and mechatronics are listed on the FAE posting only); rising junior, senior or graduate student expected to graduate between December 2027 and June 2029; cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

• Work authorization: the FAE and TSE postings require authorization to work in the United States and state that no sponsorship is available for intern roles. The Chandler postings are silent on authorization.

• Chandler engineering interns: bachelor's or master's students in engineering. The project posting lists mechanical, electrical, chemical, industrial, construction and engineering management; the equipment posting prefers mechanical or electrical and graduation dates of December 2027 or May 2028.

• Return to school: the equipment and photolithography postings say you must be returning to school or graduating at the end of the internship term, and that anyone graduating before July 2027 should apply to full-time entry-level roles.

• P&R design intern: pursuing a master's in electrical engineering with coursework in digital design and RTL, and willing to relocate to the Phoenix area for the whole internship, with at least 3 full days a week in the Chandler office.

Is the GPA a Hard Cutoff?

On the Field Applications Engineer and Technical Sales Engineer postings, the 3.0 is written as a minimum qualification, so treat it as firm. The four other postings state no GPA; the photolithography posting asks for a strong academic record. Hands-on project work with boards, equipment or data is what the preferred qualifications reward.

What Skills Does NXP Semiconductors Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

We read all six live US postings in full. Communication comes up in every one, and about two-thirds ask for some kind of presentation, report or dashboard. Four lean on electronics fundamentals, three want embedded systems knowledge and two name programming in C, C++ or Python. The sales and applications postings also name oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and Salesforce, and the Chandler postings add Excel, Power BI and statistical process control.

Six postings is a small sample from one employer, so read the counts as a guide to NXP's wording, not a market statistic.

What Is the NXP Semiconductors Application and Interview Process Like?

NXP publishes few process details. This is what its postings say:

1. Find the posting. Search NXP's Workday careers site for the title and filter to the United States. NXP says to submit your application through its careers portal.

2. Apply early. The Field Applications Engineer and Technical Sales Engineer postings say applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and positions fill quickly.

3. Interview. NXP doesn't publish the format. The sales and applications postings say your preferred location will be discussed during the interview process.

4. Internship. Sales and applications interns spend 12 weeks full-time with a mentor and present a capstone to leadership. Chandler interns own a defined project or improvement and present results.

5. Return offer. The sales and applications postings say strong performers may receive a return offer upon graduation into NXP's Technical Sales & Applications Program.

What We Found on Reddit

Nothing we can use. The NXP internship threads we found on Reddit are about NXP's India programs or sit behind a bot check, and none describe a US internship first-hand. We'd rather show no quotes than borrow another country's experience.

How Do You Stand Out for an NXP Internship?

Three moves, all doable this month.

Match your project to the role. For applications engineering, show a board you brought up yourself, firmware you wrote in C or Python, or a measurement you captured with an oscilloscope. For sales, show account research or a one-page summary you built.

Check your graduation window. The sales and applications postings want graduation between December 2027 and June 2029, and the Chandler postings point seniors graduating before July 2027 to full-time roles. Applying to the wrong one wastes your shot.

Be ready for Arizona. Four postings are based in Chandler, and the design posting asks you to relocate to the Phoenix area for the full internship.

NXP doesn't publish an applicant count for its US internships. It does say it converted 60% of its 790 interns into full-time team members in 2025, so a strong summer can lead to an offer.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 NXP internship?

No. The Summer 2026 Field Applications Engineer internship posting still exists on NXP's system but is no longer open for applications. The Summer 2027 postings went up on 1 and 6 October 2026 and are open now, so apply to those. Graduates should look at NXP's full-time entry-level roles instead.

When do NXP summer 2027 internship applications open?

They already have. NXP posted the Photolithography Equipment Intern on 1 October 2026 and the Project Engineer, Equipment Engineer, Field Applications Engineer and Technical Sales Engineer internships on 6 October 2026. None states a closing date, and the sales and applications postings are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Are NXP internships paid?

Yes. The Field Applications Engineer and Technical Sales Engineer postings promise competitive paid hourly compensation and potential relocation support or a housing stipend, depending on location. NXP publishes no hourly rate on any of its six US postings, so we can't quote a figure; salary sites don't tie their numbers to NXP's own postings.

What GPA and work authorization does NXP require for interns?

The Field Applications Engineer and Technical Sales Engineer postings require a 3.0 cumulative GPA and authorization to work in the United States, and state that no sponsorship is available for intern roles. The four other US postings state no GPA, and the Chandler postings say nothing about work authorization.

Where are NXP's US internships located?

Four postings are in Chandler, Arizona, where NXP has a semiconductor manufacturing campus and a design office. The Field Applications Engineer and Technical Sales Engineer postings list Austin, Texas; Novi, Michigan; and San Jose, California. None lists remote work. The design posting asks you to relocate to the Phoenix area.

How long is an NXP internship?

The Field Applications Engineer and Technical Sales Engineer internships are 12 weeks full-time during May to August 2027. The four other US postings, in Chandler, don't state a length or exact dates, so confirm them with the recruiter. Five postings are titled Summer 2027; the design posting names no term.

Does NXP convert interns into full-time employees?

NXP's Future Talent page says it granted 790 internships in 2025 and converted 60% of those interns into full-time team members. That's a global figure, not US-only. The sales and applications internship is described as a primary pipeline into NXP's Technical Sales & Applications Program, with a possible return offer.

Can graduate students apply for NXP internships?

Yes. The Field Applications Engineer and Technical Sales Engineer postings accept rising juniors, seniors and graduate students graduating between December 2027 and June 2029. The Digital Physical Design (P&R) internship targets students pursuing a master's in electrical engineering. Check each posting, because the graduation windows differ.

NXP's summer 2027 postings are open and reviewed on a rolling basis. Apply this month, and build a project alongside your application: a remote Externship gives you something finished to describe in the interview.
