Lutron's summer 2027 internships are open now, but you won't find them on its main careers site. Lutron posts student roles on a separate iCIMS portal, which held 56 internships and co-ops on October 26, 2026: 39 for summer 2027, 11 for spring 2027 co-ops and 6 for fall 2027 co-ops. Most went up on August 3. Lutron prints starting pay on 11 of them, from $24.25 to $45.25 an hour. In plain words: you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027, and the wave is already 12 weeks old, so the time to apply is now.
Quick Facts
| Fact | Detail |
|---|---|
| Where to apply | Lutron's student opportunities portal. The main careers site, careers.lutron.com, listed 146 roles on October 26 and none of them is an internship or co-op |
| Application window (2027–28) | Open now for summer 2027. 44 of the 56 internship and co-op postings went up August 3, 2026, and more followed on August 5, 7 and 10, September 24 and October 12 and 16. No posting names a closing date. Summer 2028: expected from about early August 2027, low confidence (one observed wave) |
| Rolling? | Long-open with no stated deadline. The August postings were all still live 12 weeks later. Lutron says nothing about when a role stops taking applications |
| Eligibility | A rising junior, rising senior or master's student at the start of the internship, in a major that matches the track. Cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 (3.00 for the three sales postings). Authorized to work in the US with no visa sponsorship now or in the future, on-site 5 days a week |
| Duration | Not stated in the postings. Terms are named in the title: summer 2027, spring 2027 and fall 2027 |
| Compensation | 11 of the 56 postings state a starting range, $24.25 to $45.25 an hour depending on role and city. Boston postings add transition support and Ashland postings add relocation assistance. The other 45 say "competitive pay" and list housing resources with no amount |
| Return offers | Not published. The postings call interns "very valuable in our search for exceptional future members of our team" but give no rate |
| Locations | Lehigh Valley PA (Coopersburg HQ and Center Valley), Austin TX, Boston MA, Philadelphia PA, Boynton Beach FL, Cincinnati OH and Ashland VA. On-site, with no remote option |
| # Programs | 56 postings across about 18 role types in six groups, with the same role posted separately by city. The portal also lists about 30 full-time and new-grad postings that aren't internships |
The row that matters most: apply on Lutron's separate student portal, not careers.lutron.com, which lists no interns. Every posting wants a 3.00 or 3.20 GPA and a rising junior, rising senior or master's student.
Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most often in 8 weeks at 5 to 10 hours a week. The SQL & Database Architecture Externship with Breaking Games builds the data skills Lutron's data engineering and data science interns use, and the Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics Externship works on the operations problems behind Lutron's supply chain roles. What Is a Lutron Internship?
A Lutron internship is a paid, on-site placement at Lutron Electronics, the lighting and shading controls maker headquartered in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania. Lutron's postings call it the worldwide leader in innovative lighting control and shading solutions, which is the company's own description. Interns work on real projects with mentors and cross-functional teams, in engineering, software, supply chain, data, IT, finance and sales. Lutron also hires co-op students for spring and fall terms. Its student postings sit on a separate iCIMS portal, not the main careers site. Lutron doesn't publish a class size on its pages we read.

When Do Lutron Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Lutron posts almost everything at once. On August 3, 2026, it put up 44 of its 56 internship and co-op postings, covering summer 2027 internships and spring and fall 2027 co-ops. Smaller batches followed on August 5, 7 and 10, then single postings on September 24 (manufacturing engineering interns), October 12 (a spring software co-op in Philadelphia) and October 16 (a manufacturing engineering intern in Ashland). For an early-June start, our assumption since the postings give no start date, the main wave opened about 10 months ahead. We couldn't find posting dates for the summer 2026 wave, so the summer 2028 window is a projection from one observed cycle: expect postings from about early August 2027, with low confidence.
Summer 2027 postings are open. The student portal listed 56 internships and co-ops on October 26, 2026, and Lutron is still adding single roles: a spring co-op on October 12 and a manufacturing intern on October 16.
Apply this week. No posting gives a closing date, but the August wave is 12 weeks old. Lutron posts the same role in several cities as separate postings, so apply for the city you'd accept. Lutron's portal also lists about 30 full-time postings with "2027" in the title; those are new-grad roles, not internships.
Interviews. Lutron doesn't publish its stages. Candidates on Reddit describe a video or live interview with an engineer that mixes technical questions with get-to-know-you questions. Spring 2027 co-ops start in the first half of 2027.
On-site, five days a week, in Pennsylvania, Texas, Massachusetts, Florida, Ohio or Virginia. Lutron lists mentorship, shadowing, project-based work, networking and social events as part of the program. Fall 2027 co-ops follow.
Summer 2028 postings expected, if the August 2026 pattern repeats. We observed only one wave plus one weak 2024 data point, so treat this as low confidence and check the student portal from July.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Lutron's postings have no stated deadline, which makes the pattern easy to misread. The company posted nearly everything in a single day, August 3, and most of those postings are still open, but the summer 2027 roles you want are the oldest on the portal. Because Lutron lists each city as its own posting, you can also apply to several offices for the same role. Don't wait for a reopening: the only new postings since September are single roles in manufacturing and software. Apply now, in the city you'd accept.
Which Lutron Internship Programs Should You Target?
Lutron's 56 postings fall into six groups. Counts are postings, and the same role is often posted once per city.
| Program | Focus | Duration | Key details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Software, embedded and data (19) | Software engineering, embedded firmware and software, data engineering, data science and machine learning | Summer 2027; spring 2027 co-ops | Boston, Austin, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Boynton Beach, Lehigh Valley; Boston pay $30.75 to $45.25 an hour |
| Supply chain (12) | Supply chain engineering and supply chain specialist roles | Summer 2027; spring and fall 2027 co-ops | Lehigh Valley and Austin; no pay printed |
| Hardware and mechanical (10) | Electrical, RF and mechanical engineering | Summer 2027; spring and fall 2027 co-ops | Boston pay $29.00 to $44.75 an hour; others show no pay |

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Requirements are nearly identical across postings. These come from the 56 internship and co-op postings we read on October 26, 2026.
• Class year: a rising junior, rising senior or master's student at the start of the internship, per all 56 postings.
• GPA: a cumulative 3.20 minimum on 53 postings and 3.00 on the three sales postings (inside sales in two cities and sales support).
• Major: matched to the track, such as mechanical, aerospace or engineering science for the mechanical internship, information systems for IT, and finance, economics, statistics, data science or accounting for the finance internship.
• Work authorization: authorized to work in the US and not requiring Lutron to sponsor any work visa, such as an H-1B, now or at any time in the future.
• Schedule: willing to work on-site 5 days a week.

Is the GPA a Hard Cutoff?
Lutron states the GPA as a baseline requirement on every posting, and 53 of 56 name 3.20, so treat it as a screen rather than a preference. We found no posting that offers an exception, and Lutron doesn't publish how strictly it's applied. If you're slightly below, a strong project portfolio and a specific reason for the track may help, but apply to the 3.00 sales postings only if sales is a real interest.
What Skills Does Lutron Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Lutron's postings share a template, so they say less about tools than about fit. Every posting asks for broad interests in engineering, design and development (or the equivalent for business tracks), cross-functional teamwork and the ability to ask tough questions and find root causes. Technical duties are track-specific. The mechanical internship lists stress analysis, tolerance analysis, simulation and prototyping, and works with radio frequency, electrical and manufacturing engineers. The tools named in the postings are few: Python appears in two postings and CAD in two.
Note: We didn't chart skills for Lutron. All 56 postings share one template, and the template names no software tools beyond Python (2 postings), CAD (2) and Excel (1), so a bar chart would show Lutron's boilerplate, not a skills distribution. What the postings do repeat in all 56 is a rising junior, senior or master's student, an on-site schedule, no visa sponsorship, and mentorship.
How Is Demand for Software Engineer Interns Moving Right Now?

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each theme in Lutron's postings maps to a remote Externship you can finish while the postings are still open. The fit is partial, since no open Externship covers hardware or embedded engineering directly.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Data engineering and data science | Data Engineering and Data Science and Machine Learning internships (Philadelphia, Boston, Coopersburg) | SQL & Database Architecture with Breaking Games |
| Supply chain and operations | 12 supply chain engineering and specialist postings, plus manufacturing and industrial engineering | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Connected device and embedded security | Embedded firmware and software internships for smart lighting and shading systems (a loose fit) | Hydroficient Advanced: IoT Cyber Defense |
| Financial analysis | Finance internship for students in finance, economics, statistics, data science or accounting | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis and Private Company Valuation |
| Product and project management | Commercial project management internship | BeReal Product Management |
The data, operations and finance rows are the closest fits. For circuit design, firmware or mechanical design, use lab work, class projects and a build you can demo as your proof.
What Is the Lutron Application and Interview Process Like?
Lutron doesn't publish its interview stages. This is what the portal and candidates show.
1. Find your role. Search the student portal by track and city. Summer, spring and fall terms are separate postings, and the same role may appear in several cities.
2. Apply. Use the apply button on the posting and create a profile on Lutron's portal.
3. Interview. Candidates on Reddit describe a video or live interview with an engineer, about 30 to 40 minutes of technical questions plus get-to-know-you questions, sometimes on a shared whiteboard. Lutron doesn't confirm the format.
4. Offer. Timing between steps isn't published.
Lutron's own interview page gives general preparation advice, not stages or questions.
What Students on Reddit Say
Reddit has little on Lutron's internships. One recent thread covers the interview, and the commenters don't all say whether they interviewed for an internship.
Asked what a Lutron video interview involves, a commenter who interviewed for a mechanical role said an engineer spent roughly 30 to 40 minutes on technical questions, then regular get-to-know-you questions. They had to think on their feet, expect a follow-up asking why, and use an interactive whiteboard.
How Do You Stand Out for a Lutron Internship?
First, meet the screen cleanly: the 3.20 GPA and the rising junior, senior or master's status are on every posting, so lead with the track that fits your major. Second, show practical work. Lutron's postings emphasize hands-on projects, so bring a build, a lab or a class project you can explain from first principles, and expect to be asked why. Third, apply in more than one city for the same role if you can relocate, since each city is a separate posting. Lutron doesn't publish a class size or a conversion rate, so treat any percentage elsewhere as unverified.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Lutron internship?
No. Summer 2026 internships ran last summer and are over. The roles open now are for summer 2027, plus spring and fall 2027 co-ops. On October 26, 2026, Lutron's student portal listed 56 internships and co-ops, and none names a closing date.
Where do I apply for a Lutron internship?
On Lutron's separate student opportunities portal, studentopportunities-lutron.icims.com. The main careers site, careers.lutron.com, listed 146 roles on October 26, 2026, and none was an internship or co-op, so searching there will make it look as if Lutron has no student program.
When do Lutron internship applications open?
Lutron posted 44 of its 56 internship and co-op postings on August 3, 2026, with more on August 5, 7 and 10 and single postings through October 16. We couldn't find last cycle's dates, so we expect summer 2028 postings from about early August 2027, with low confidence.
How much do Lutron interns get paid?
Lutron states a starting range on 11 of the 56 postings: $24.25 to $45.25 an hour, with the lowest in Ashland, Virginia and the highest for Boston software and data roles. The other 45 say competitive pay and list housing resources without an amount.
What GPA do you need for a Lutron internship?
A cumulative 3.20 on 53 of the 56 postings, and 3.00 on the three sales postings. Every posting also asks for a rising junior, rising senior or master's student. Lutron doesn't say whether exceptions are made, so apply with a GPA at or above the number.
Does Lutron sponsor visas for interns?
No. All 56 postings say you must be authorized to work in the US and must not require Lutron to sponsor any work visa, such as an H-1B, either immediately or at any time in the future. Lutron says it doesn't offer work visa sponsorship for these positions.
Does Lutron offer co-ops?
Yes. The student portal listed 11 spring 2027 co-ops and 6 fall 2027 co-ops on October 26, 2026, in mechanical, embedded and software engineering, supply chain and packaging. They're separate postings from the summer internships, and a spring software co-op in Philadelphia was added as recently as October 12.
Do Lutron interns get full-time offers?
Lutron doesn't publish a conversion rate. Its postings say interns are very valuable in its search for exceptional future team members, and the same portal lists about 30 new-grad roles for 2027, which are separate postings. Treat any percentage on job-board or review sites as unverified.
Apply this week on Lutron's student portal, in the city you'd accept. While you wait, a remote Externship gives you a finished data or operations project to talk about in the interview.
