Lockton's summer 2027 internships are open now. On October 5, 2026 its careers site listed 27 US intern postings, added between August 11 and October 2, 2026, and none states a closing date. In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027, and at Lockton the door is already open.
There's no single national program. Each regional unit and business posts its own internship: the Founders Series in Kansas City, Des Moines, Omaha, Birmingham and Minneapolis; the Midwest Series in Chicago and St. Louis; the Southeast Series across Atlanta, Charlotte, Tampa, Birmingham and South Florida; Lockton-Dunning in Texas and Louisiana; and Lockton Re for reinsurance and actuarial interns in New York, Philadelphia, Minneapolis and Chicago. Where Lockton lists pay, it's $20 to $26 an hour. Every internship is in the office.
What Is a Lockton Internship?
A Lockton internship is a paid, in-office summer program at Lockton Companies, the Kansas City firm that calls itself the world's largest privately held independent insurance brokerage. Most interns join a Risk Solutions (property and casualty) or People Solutions (employee benefits) account team, work on new and renewal client business, and are paired with a Performance Coach or summer mentor; several units end with a group project presented to leadership. Lockton reported about $4.5 billion in revenue for its fiscal year ended April 2026 and nearly 15,000 Associates in its fiscal 2026 results. Founded in 1966, it says it has been named a Best Place to Work in Insurance for 18 years running.

When Do Lockton Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Lockton posts its summer internships in late summer, about nine to ten months before a June start. This year's first posting went up August 11, 2026, most followed on August 31 and September 1, and the last so far on October 2. Last cycle looked the same: summer 2026 reinsurance, risk and benefits postings were already live by mid-September 2025. Those dates come from the careers site's own listing records, which are a lower bound on when each posting became public. Expect summer 2028 postings around August to September 2027.
Applications for summer 2027 are open right now: 27 postings across broking, employee benefits, reinsurance, actuarial and headquarters roles. None lists a deadline.
Recruiter review, a phone interview and possibly a profile assessment. Lockton doesn't publish its interview dates; offices hire on their own timelines, so early applicants see the most open seats.
Any posting still live keeps taking applications. Offers settle, and interns plan housing: Lockton says it doesn't provide it.
Internships start in June 2027 and run 10 weeks on most postings, with account-team work, carrier visits, coaching and a group project or service day.
Applications for summer 2028 are expected to post, based on this year's August 11 to October 2 window.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Lockton's internships are rolling. Not one of the 27 postings lists a closing date, and nothing in them mentions a deadline, so a posting can come down whenever that office fills its seats. Because each Series and business unit hires on its own, the safest move is to apply as soon as the office you want is posted, which for summer 2027 is now. Apply to more than one office if you can relocate, and remember that housing isn't provided.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Requirements vary a little by unit, so read the posting for your office:
• Class year: most postings want current students graduating between December 2027 and May 2028; Lockton Re and Lockton-Dunning say students entering their junior or senior year.
• GPA: only Lockton-Dunning's South Internship states one, a minimum 3.5, plus involvement in sports, student government, clubs or community service. The other postings we read list no GPA.
• Majors: all majors are encouraged; insurance, risk management, finance, marketing and business are preferred on most postings, and actuarial science on the Financial/Actuarial Analyst roles.
• Work authorization: headquarters and Founders postings require permanent US work authorization without current or future visa sponsorship; others ask for the legal right to work in the US.
• Logistics: every internship is in the office, and Lockton says it doesn't provide housing.

Does Lockton Have a GPA Cutoff?
Only in Texas and Louisiana. Lockton-Dunning's posting says a 3.5 GPA is required, which is high for a broking internship. The Founders, Midwest, Southeast, Lockton Re and headquarters postings name no GPA and lean instead on customer service, communication and project management experience. Actuarial exams help on the Financial/Actuarial Analyst roles, but those postings call them a plus, not a requirement.

What Skills Does Lockton Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Every Lockton intern posting we read asks for communication skills, and most add teamwork, organization and customer service. Several want genuine interest in learning insurance, since most interns arrive without it. Broking interns need client-service instincts and Microsoft Office. Lockton Re interns need numeracy and attention to detail, and the actuarial intern supports stochastic underwriting models.

What the Community Says
Reddit has little on Lockton internships, so two cards come from intern reviews on Indeed.
A finance student with an FP&A co-op landed a Lockton summer internship, partly because Lockton insured the student's current employer, and expected classroom training to get licensed. Replies said carrier underwriting training programs mostly hire new grads directly.
A Kansas City intern said everyone was willing to help, even the CEO, while noting limited diversity. Another Kansas City intern described a lot of learning and personal growth, and said some people work long hours.
A Houston intern said colleagues had the intern's best interest at heart and made them feel welcome from the start.
How Do You Stand Out for a Lockton Internship?
Three moves. First, pick the office, not just the company. Each Series posts its own internship, so apply where you can actually live for the summer, and to a second office if you can relocate. Second, lead with service. Most postings name customer service and project management experience; a restaurant, retail or campus job where you handled people and deadlines is real evidence, so quantify it. Third, show you want to learn insurance. Four of the nine posting templates ask for it outright. Know what a renewal is and the difference between property and casualty and employee benefits. Lockton publishes no applicant count or conversion rate; its postings describe the summer as a way to explore client service and account management careers.
