Kemper's summer 2027 internships aren't open yet, and they won't be for months. On October 5, 2026 Kemper's Workday job board listed 359 jobs and no internships. In plain words: you intern in summer 2027, but Kemper doesn't post a year ahead. Its last summer wave went up between mid-April and late May 2025, and some postings came down within a week, so the summer 2027 window is expected around April to May 2027.

Two things matter before you plan around Kemper. First, its corporate internships have been limited to juniors and seniors at named partner universities, such as the University of Chicago, Northwestern, UW-Madison and Notre Dame. Second, 301 of those 359 jobs are Kemper Life insurance agent roles, and Kemper's own trainee posting says the compensation is fully commission-based. Those are sales jobs, not internships. The internships that do exist paid $22 an hour in 2025, and law students in the Law Clerk program earned $30 an hour in summer 2026.

What Is a Kemper Internship?

A Kemper internship is a paid summer role at Kemper Corporation, the Chicago-based insurer behind Kemper Auto and Kemper Life. Its corporate track, the Kemper Scholars Internship Program, was a 10-week paid internship in 2025 with projects in areas such as actuarial, accounting, IT, cybersecurity and life insurance operations. A separate Law Clerk Intern Program places law students with Kemper's in-house litigation attorneys. Kemper's quick facts page reports about $12 billion in assets, over 4.4 million policies and about 7,000 associates. Kemper Corporation was formerly Unitrin. Its internship shouldn't be confused with the James S. Kemper Foundation's Kemper Scholars scholarship, a separate program.

When Do Kemper Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Kemper is a late-window employer. Its summer 2025 corporate internships were listed between April 14 and May 28, 2025, and came down 2 to 25 days later: the Actuarial Intern posting lasted five days. The summer 2026 Law Clerk postings went up May 3 and May 10, 2026 and expired a month later. That's a lead time of about half a month to two months before a summer start, so applications for summer 2027 are expected around mid-April to May 2027. This projection rests on one full year of corporate dates from a job-board mirror, so treat it as low confidence and set an alert rather than waiting for a fixed date.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Kemper's internships are a short-window shape, not a rolling one. In 2025 the Actuarial Intern posting was listed May 3 and gone by May 8, and the Cybersecurity Operations posting lasted two days. The longest corporate listing ran 25 days. No posting states a deadline, which makes the speed easy to miss: a student who checks the board once a month in spring could see nothing at all. The Law Clerk postings were kinder, open about a month in 2026. For both, set a job alert now and apply the day a posting appears.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

The 2025 corporate postings and the 2026 Law Clerk postings set these requirements:

• School: every summer 2025 corporate posting we read named the partner universities whose students could apply. The Law Clerk program is open to students at any ABA-approved law school.

• Class year: juniors or seniors for corporate roles; 2L or 3L law students (or 4L in part-time or JD/MBA programs) for Law Clerk.

• GPA: a minimum 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on all six corporate postings.

• Majors: actuarial needs math, actuarial science, statistics, finance, economics or data science; other tracks take finance, data analytics, IT, computer science, accounting, communications or business, and "non-business majors are welcome" with a strong interest in insurance.

• Work authorization: every posting says the role "is not eligible for visa sponsorship."

Can You Apply to Kemper if Your School Isn't a Partner?

For the 2025 corporate internships, the answer was no: each posting listed partner schools under "minimum requirements (must have)." The 2027 list isn't published yet and may change, so check the posting when it appears. If you're a law student, the Law Clerk program has no school list. If you're neither, Kemper's "Insurance Agent Trainee" jobs will show up in your searches, but those are commission-based sales roles, not internships.

What Skills Does Kemper Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Kemper's internship postings are short and practical. Actuarial asks for data analysis in Excel, R and SQL, running actuarial models and presenting findings, with one exam preferred. IT and operations tracks ask for process maps, dashboards, requirements gathering, system data analysis and process improvement projects. Cybersecurity adds threat triage and vulnerability response, and accounting covers month-end close, journal entries and reconciliations. Law Clerk interns draft discovery responses and pleadings and do legal research.

What Is the Kemper Application and Interview Process Like?

Kemper doesn't publish an intern interview format. Based on its postings and Students and Grads page, the path looks like this:

1. Join Kemper Job Alerts. Sign up through Kemper's Workday talent community so new postings reach you the day they appear.

2. Confirm your school. Corporate postings have named the eligible universities; partner-school students should also watch their career center's channels.

3. Apply within days. Postings came down 2 to 25 days after they appeared in 2025; apply to each track separately.

4. Interviews. Kemper hasn't published its rounds; expect conversations with the hiring team.

5. Watch for fraud. Kemper says it never asks for your Social Security number or bank details by text or email and doesn't contact candidates on WireApp or Skype.

How Do You Stand Out for a Kemper Internship?

Three moves. First, be ready before April. Postings can disappear within a week, so have your resume, transcript and a short cover note finished in March and an alert switched on. Second, use your school's channel. If you're at a partner university, ask your career center how Kemper recruits there; those students are the only ones the 2025 corporate postings accepted. Third, bring tools, not adjectives. The actuarial posting names Excel, R and SQL, and the IT and operations postings name process maps and dashboards. A finished project that uses them is worth more than a list of courses. Kemper doesn't publish an applicant count or a return-offer rate.
