State Farm Internship 2027–2028: Programs, Deadlines & How to Apply
Last updated: August 2026
State Farm is the No. 32 company on the Fortune 500, a mutual insurer with nearly 97 million policies and over 62,000 employees. It said in 2022 that it hires 500 to 600 interns a year across twelve career areas, from P&C actuarial to enterprise technology to claims and law, paying $22 to $36 an hour depending on track plus a $2,000 stipend. Its summer-2027 cycle has already started: the first requisition, Summer 2027 Intern – P&C Actuarial, went live on 3 August 2026. But here's the number that matters most for your search: only 1 of 251 open corporate positions on State Farm's board is an internship right now, while more than 19,200 independently owned agent offices flood job boards with their own "intern" postings, 334 of them live today versus that one corporate req. How do you find the real ones?

What Is a State Farm Internship?
So what are you actually signing up for? A State Farm internship is a paid, 10-week, 38.75-hour-per-week placement across one of twelve career areas, from P&C actuarial to enterprise technology to claims and law. The program runs hybrid at four hubs with a minimum of three days a week in office, and State Farm is a five-time Handshake Early Talent Awards winner and 2026 Platinum employer for Early Career. But here's one thing to know before you search: more than 19,200 independently owned State Farm agent offices post their own intern roles, and those outnumber the corporate internship roughly 334 to 1 on job boards today. If a listing says "Intern - State Farm Agent Team Member," that's an agent office paying around $15 an hour for sales work, not this program.

When Do State Farm Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
State Farm doesn't publish an application window or a "check back in fall" sentence anywhere on its careers site. So how do you know when to apply? Instead it posts one requisition per function across a roughly five-month spread each cycle, and each req has its own deadline. The summer-2026 cycle's first posting went live on 30 July 2025; summer-2027's went live on 3 August 2026, holding that late-July/early-August line. So the only way to catch your function is a talent-network alert or checking the board yourself.
State Farm's summer-2027 wave has started. Req 45277, Summer 2027 Intern – P&C Actuarial in Bloomington IL, is live right now and is the only intern req on a board of 251 corporate openings. If you're an actuarial candidate, apply this week. Last cycle's identical req was posted 30 July 2025 and was off the board by 10 September. If you're targeting a different track, your function hasn't posted yet, and this is your proof-building window.
Set a job alert on State Farm's talent network so it fires the day your function posts. Get your resume and unofficial transcript combined into one document now. State Farm's actuarial and law reqs reject applications without it. Rehearse for HireVue: 30 seconds of prep, about 3 minutes per answer, sometimes a single take. Register for a campus career fair if one's near you.
Applications for summer 2027 expected to open function by function: Investments and Finance around September, Technology and Information Security September through November, Claims and Underwriting and Marketing late September through October, Law around November. Projected from the documented summer-2026 spread. State Farm's own postings say the deadline "is expected to close on {date}" and that "applicant volume and hiring needs may result in early closure... so apply as soon as possible."
State Farm's reqs say competitive candidates get a "pre-screening video interview in the Fall," which is the HireVue one-way video. Technology tracks add an online assessment and a live coding round. And MAGNet? It posts around February 2027 and is a separate, graduate-only, multi-semester program, so don't apply for it in the fall.
10 weeks at 38.75 hours a week, hybrid at Bloomington IL, Richardson TX, Tempe AZ or Sandy Springs GA, minimum 3 days a week in office. $22 to $36 an hour depending on track, a $2,000 stipend, and a req that lists "the desire to work for State Farm upon graduation" as an eligibility criterion.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
State Farm doesn't call it rolling, and it isn't. Its intern postings carry the line: "Application deadline is expected to close on {date}. Applicant volume and hiring needs may result in early closure or extension beyond the listed deadline, so apply as soon as possible!" That language appeared on four separate requisitions across two cycles and four different functions. And the calendar backs it up: last cycle's P&C Actuarial req was posted 30 July 2025 and was gone from the board by 10 September 2025, a window of roughly six weeks. Today's equivalent posted 3 August 2026. So a reader arriving in mid-August is about 12 days into a window that lasted about six weeks last year.
Which State Farm Internship Programs Should You Target?
State Farm posts one requisition per function rather than running a handful of named programs. Here are six tracks from the documented 2025 and 2026 cycles, projected to 2027. And which track you target determines your GPA floor, your interview format and your hourly rate.
| Track | Focus | Duration | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| P&C Actuarial – Actuarial Analyst | Risk and financial-needs assessment, pricing methods, data mining and predictive modeling (regression, forecasting, machine learning), emerging-industry research | 10 wks, 38.75 hrs/wk | Actuarial Science / Math / Statistics major; ≥1 SOA or CAS exam; Excel, SQL, R and/or Python; 3.25 GPA min (3.5 preferred) |
| Investments (Fixed Income · Muni Bonds · Private & Public Equity) | Due-diligence research, financial modeling and investment decisions across a $100bn+ portfolio | 10 wks | Investments, Accounting, Finance coursework; analytical and detail-oriented; Muni Bonds track is graduate-only |
| Enterprise Technology / Software & Data Infrastructure | Build and ship software and data infrastructure for a Fortune 50 insurer | 10 wks | Java, Python, C++; SQL/MySQL; AWS, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes; React, Spring Boot, Git; no GPA floor |
| Information Security – GRC Analyst | Governance, risk and compliance inside Information Security | 10 wks | CS, IT, Cybersecurity major; coursework in InfoSec, Risk & Compliance; AWS familiarity preferred |
| P&C Claims / Underwriting & Enterprise Operations | Claims handling, underwriting judgment, and an industry-trend research capstone presented to executive leadership | 10–11 wks | Business, Risk Management, Finance, Communication majors; data analytics and research methodology; no GPA floor, no named tools |
| MAGNet – Modeling and Analytics Graduate Network | Pricing/underwriting risk predictive modeling, claims automation modeling, sales forecasting, econometric modeling, data mining | 20 hrs/wk Fall & Spring, 38.75 hrs/wk Summer, multi-semester | Graduate programs in Statistics, Data Science, Math, CS; Python, SAS or R; $36/hr + full tuition assistance; not a summer internship |
And see the full list on the intern-filtered board. Law internships run from Claim Litigation Counsel offices in Chicago, Mount Laurel, St. Petersburg, Orlando and Birmingham at $33/hr, open to rising 3Ls with a writing sample.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
So what do you need? State Farm's requirements shift by track, but four rules hold everywhere:
• Enrollment: full-time undergrad with at least one semester remaining after the internship; student status maintained throughout. Investments requires junior year completed by start; Marketing prefers juniors; Claims accepts sophomores through seniors. MAGNet and Muni Bonds are graduate-only.
• GPA: depends on track. P&C Actuarial: 3.5 preferred, 3.25 minimum, unofficial transcript required with application. Investments: 3.5 preferred. Finance & Business Analytics: 3.5 hard minimum. Claims, marketing, technology, information security and law: no GPA stated at all.
• Exams (actuarial only): successful completion of at least one SOA or CAS actuarial exam, plus intention to earn the ACAS/FCAS designation. Each passed exam is worth an extra $1/hour on top of the $30 base.
• Work authorization: no sponsorship, in 12 of 12 JDs read. "Employer will not sponsor applicants for U.S. work authorization (e.g. H-1B visa) for this opportunity." Must reside within the continental U.S. for the duration.

Is the GPA a Hard Cutoff?
It depends on the track, and State Farm's actuarial req makes the distinction inside one sentence: 3.5 "preferred," 3.25 "minimum". So the real floor for actuarial is 3.25, and the 3.5 is aspiration. Eight of the twelve JDs read state no GPA at all; claims, marketing, technology, information security and law never mention one. The one genuinely hard gate is Finance & Business Analytics at 3.5 overall and in major. But if you're targeting claims, tech or law? GPA isn't part of the conversation.
What Skills Does State Farm Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
What does State Farm actually screen for? Twelve corporate intern JDs from the 2026 and 2025 cycles tell a clear story: this is a judgment-and-communication employer. Written and verbal communication appears in 11 of 12 JDs. Teamwork shows up in 10. But the technical bar is concentrated in exactly three tracks: actuarial names Excel, SQL, R and Python; enterprise technology lists Java, Python, C++, AWS, Terraform, Docker and a full JS stack; and MAGNet asks for Python, SAS or R. The other nine JDs name majors and soft skills only. And Tableau, Power BI and Snowflake? Zero appearances across all twelve JDs, which isn't a collection gap; it's a real finding about what this employer actually values.
What State Farm looks for in interns
Skills across 12 State Farm intern & analyst job descriptions · 12 State Farm corporate function-specific intern JDs, 2026 and 2025 cycles, projecting 2027–2028
Method: full-text analysis of 12 State Farm corporate function-specific intern job descriptions from the 2026 and 2025 recruiting cycles, read in full and projected to 2027. State Farm had exactly one live intern requisition on 15 August 2026 (out of 251 open corporate reqs), so a live-postings chart was not possible. Franchise caveat: postings from independently owned State Farm Agent offices are excluded; they are a different employer, and they outnumber corporate intern postings by roughly 334 to 1 on job boards today. Function-mix caveat: named technical tools cluster in only three of the twelve requisitions (P&C Actuarial, Enterprise Technology, MAGNet); the other nine list majors and soft skills only, so the tool bars understate how technical the actuarial, technology and MAGNet tracks actually are.
How Is Demand for P&C Insurance Interns Moving Right Now?
P&C insurance intern hiring right now: August 2026
Across 1,935 US underwriting-intern postings on Indeed and 485 in the Adzuna index · aggregate market data, all employers
August 2026 is this tracker's baseline month, so month-over-month shifts appear at the next update. The early signal: P&C insurance intern hiring is a judgment-and-communication-led pipeline, and State Farm's pay sits above the market median at every track level.
Method: aggregate analysis of US underwriting, claims and risk-management intern postings via Adzuna and Indeed, August 2026 baseline. Sample indexes under half of all US postings; figures show direction and relative level, not total market share.
Build These Skills Before You Apply
So how do you build those skills before you apply? Several bars in the chart map to a remote Externship that ends in a finished company project.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Data and statistical analysis in Excel, SQL, R and Python | P&C Actuarial JD: "Experience with data and statistical analysis in Excel, SQL, R, and/or Python" | Beats by Dre Data Analytics: Qualitative & Quantitative Insights |
| Financial modeling and investment research | Investments JD: "due diligence research, financial modeling, and investment decision-making" across a $100bn+ portfolio | Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling |
| Software engineering and applied AI | Enterprise Technology JD: "Object oriented programming (Java, Python, C++, etc.)"; "AWS, Terraform, containers (docker, Kubernetes, etc.)" | Wayfair AI Agent Engineering for Business Intelligence |
But Extern has no actuarial or insurance externship in the active catalog, and no externship substitutes for a passed SOA or CAS exam. What these build is the adjacent evidence State Farm's reqs actually list: real data work in Excel, SQL and Python, a finished financial analysis, or a shipped engineering project you can talk about for three minutes on a HireVue.
What Is the State Farm Application and Interview Process Like?
So what happens after you hit submit? State Farm publishes its own five-step process, and the interview format varies by track:
1. Apply at jobs.statefarm.com with a resume. For actuarial and law, attach your resume and unofficial transcript as one combined single document (the req says so explicitly). Law also requires a writing sample of 5 pages or fewer.
2. Pre-employment assessment (some tracks). State Farm's own assessment PDF says it's timed and could take up to 30 to 35 minutes. Technology roles may get a coding assessment; one accepted-offer report describes recreating the game 2048.
3. HireVue one-way video interview. State Farm's reqs say competitive candidates get a "pre-screening video interview in the Fall." Candidates describe 30 seconds of prep and about 3 minutes per answer with no live interviewer and sometimes a single take. Technology tracks add a live coding and behavioral round after the HireVue.
4. Decision. Glassdoor averages 26 days for SWE, 20 days for actuarial, and 24 days company-wide. One accepted SWE offer went career fair to apply to HireVue to OA to live round to offer in about four weeks.
And here's one genuinely unusual detail: State Farm publishes an AI policy stating that "candidates are not permitted to use AI tools while engaged in an assessment or interview at State Farm" and that use is grounds for disqualification. Practise out loud, not with a script.
What Students on Reddit Say
What's it actually like? Three threads, from the inside.
The sequence is HireVue first, then roughly nine business days of silence, then a scheduling call, then a final live round combining coding and behavioral. Offers landed about two weeks after that.
The perks and the intern cohort's social programming were solid, but I felt micromanaged even on work-from-home days. Your mileage depends on the team.
A crowd-sourced offer table lists State Farm summer tech at twenty-eight dollars an hour with a two-thousand-dollar stipend, which lines up with what the official reqs show.
How Do You Stand Out When Each Req Posts Once and May Close Early?
So four moves, starting with the calendar. First, set a talent-network alert and apply the week your function posts, because State Farm's postings warn of early closure and last cycle's actuarial req lasted roughly six weeks. Second, have the combined resume-and-transcript document ready before you apply. Why? State Farm's actuarial and law reqs instruct applicants to attach both as "one combined single document," and missing that instruction is a mechanical filter that costs applicants offers every cycle. Third, rehearse HireVue specifically: 30 seconds of prep, about 3 minutes per answer, no live interviewer, and State Farm's published rule bans AI tools during interviews on penalty of disqualification. Fourth, for actuarial candidates, pass at least one SOA or CAS exam first. It's a stated requirement, and every passed exam adds $1/hour on top of the $30 base.

What Other Companies Should You Consider?
And who else should you look at? State Farm's peers are the property and casualty mutual insurers, plus the franchise twin that shares the same job-board confusion.
- Nationwidethe other big mutual with a fixed 12-week program and explicitly remote/hybrid optionsCareers site
- Erie Insurancethe only P&C mutual that publishes its recruiting window (August through December) and offers relocation assistanceCareers site
- Auto-Owners InsuranceMichigan-based and far smaller, so the intern class concentrates in one campus rather than four hubsCareers site
- Farmers Insurance Exchangethe closest structural twin, another exchange with a huge independent-agent layer that floods job boards the same wayCareers site
- American Family Insuranceruns a variable 10-to-14-week program and opens eligibility to bachelor's, master's and PhD studentsCareers site

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 State Farm internship?
No. State Farm's summer-2026 requisitions are all closed, and that class ran from 1 June to 7 August 2026. A search of State Farm's board for "Summer 2026" returns zero results. The next open cycle is summer 2027, and its first requisition went live on 3 August 2026.
Are State Farm summer 2027 internship applications open right now?
Yes, partly. As of mid-August 2026 State Farm has one live intern requisition: Summer 2027 Intern – P&C Actuarial in Bloomington, Illinois, posted 3 August 2026. Every other track (technology, claims, underwriting, law) is expected to post between roughly September and November 2026.
Are State Farm internships rolling?
No. State Farm posts one requisition per function with its own expected close date, and the reqs warn that "applicant volume and hiring needs may result in early closure." And last cycle's P&C Actuarial posting went live on 30 July 2025 and was off the board by 10 September. So apply in week one.
What GPA does State Farm require for an internship?
It depends on the track. The actuarial requisition states a 3.5 GPA preferred and a 3.25 minimum, with unofficial transcripts required at application. Investments prefers 3.5, and one finance role set a hard 3.5. Claims, marketing, technology, information security and law requisitions state no GPA at all.
How much do State Farm interns get paid?
Between $22 and $36 an hour depending on track, plus a $2,000 stipend on nearly every posting. The live 2027 actuarial req lists $30 an hour plus an extra dollar per hour for each actuarial exam passed. Claims and marketing pay $22, technology $28, investments and law $33, and MAGNet (graduate) pays $36 plus full tuition assistance.
What is the State Farm intern interview process like?
Usually two to three rounds. State Farm's reqs say competitive candidates get a pre-screening video interview in the fall, which candidates describe as a HireVue with about 30 seconds of prep and three minutes per answer. Technology roles add an online assessment and a live coding round. State Farm explicitly bans AI tools during interviews.
Do State Farm interns get return offers?
State Farm publishes no conversion rate. It says the internship carries "potential for full-time employment," and the live req asks applicants to have "the desire to work for State Farm upon graduation." But MAGNet is the one track with a stated contingent-offer path before the final semester. Community estimates describe the return offer as common but not guaranteed.
Is an "Intern - State Farm Agent Team Member" job a State Farm internship?
No. Those postings come from independently owned State Farm agent offices, which State Farm's own requisitions describe as "independent contractors who hire their own employees." There are more than 19,200 agent offices. They're sales and marketing roles paying around $15 an hour, not the corporate internship program.
So here's the takeaway: State Farm doesn't announce an application window. It posts one requisition per function across a five-month spread and warns each one may close early. The actuarial req is live now; the rest are coming. So set a talent-network alert, get your resume and transcript into one document, and while you wait, build evidence: a remote Externship turns "I know Excel and Python" into a finished project you can talk about for three minutes on a HireVue.
