Last updated: October 2026
Grange Insurance runs a paid, 14-week summer Intern Development Program in Columbus, Ohio, and its summer 2027 recruiting has already split in two. The Actuarial Intern and Product Analyst Intern roles posted on August 13, 2026 and are now gone: when we checked Grange's job board on October 5, 2026 it listed 7 jobs and none were internships. The other departments, from underwriting and claims to finance and HR, are expected to post around January to March 2027, because last cycle Grange told students its applications would open "in early 2026."
In plain words: you apply during the 2026-27 school year, you intern in summer 2027. If you want actuarial or product work, you've missed this year's window, so plan for the summer 2028 roles, expected around August 2027. Everyone else should watch the board from January.
What Is a Grange Insurance Internship?
A Grange Insurance internship is a paid, 14-week summer placement in Grange's Intern Development Program at its Columbus, Ohio home office. Interns work in one department, such as actuarial, product, underwriting, claims, finance or HR, and also join a cross-functional group project that ends with a capstone presentation to senior leaders. Grange Insurance Company has sold auto, home and business insurance through independent agents since 1935, with $3.4 billion in assets across 13 states, according to its 2025 internship announcement. That release also notes that RISE named the program one of the insurance industry's Elite 50 internships for the third year in a row. Program components on the careers page include mentorship, workshops, job shadowing and Coffee Chats with leadership.

When Do Grange Insurance Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Grange's summer 2027 cycle runs in two waves. The Actuarial Intern and Product Analyst Intern roles for summer 2027 posted on August 13, 2026, about nine months before the mid-May 2027 start, and both were off Grange's board when we checked on October 4 and October 5, 2026. For summer 2026, Grange's October 2025 release told students to apply "when applications open in early 2026," so the remaining summer 2027 departments are expected around January to March 2027, about three to four months before the start. Treat that projection as low confidence: the actuarial and product roles moved from early-year to August in a single cycle, and other departments could move too. Actuarial and product roles for summer 2028 are expected around August 2027.
No Grange internships are open. The summer 2027 Actuarial Intern and Product Analyst Intern roles posted August 13, 2026 and have closed; on October 5, 2026 Grange's board listed 7 jobs, none of them internships. This gap is when you build the proof for the next wave.
Create a candidate profile on Grange's UKG board, sharpen your Excel work, and if you want actuarial roles later, sit an exam. Prepare two team-project stories for the capstone question.
Applications for summer 2027 are expected to open for the remaining departments: underwriting, claims, finance, HR, sales and marketing, and data roles. Check the board weekly from early January.
Expected interviews and offers for the summer 2027 class. Grange doesn't publish its interview steps, so watch your email and respond quickly.
The 14-week program runs mid-May to mid-August 2027 in Columbus, ending with a capstone presentation to senior leaders. Actuarial and product roles for summer 2028 are expected around August 2027.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Grange's roles don't state a deadline, but the evidence says the windows are short. The two summer 2027 roles posted on August 13, 2026; a job-board copy of the Product Analyst posting was set to expire on September 16, and both roles were gone from Grange's own board by early October, so they were up for roughly five to seven weeks at most. Grange's intern class is small enough to fit one group capstone, so seats are limited. When the next wave posts, apply in the first week rather than waiting for the end of the term.
Which Grange Insurance Internship Programs Should You Target?
Grange runs one Intern Development Program and places each intern in a department. The 2025 class covered 10 departments; these are the main ones and their status for summer 2027.
| Placement | Focus | Summer 2027 status | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Actuarial Intern | Rate reviews or loss reserve appraisals, data collection and analysis | Closed (posted Aug 13, 2026) | Math or actuarial major, spreadsheets, 1 exam preferred |
| Product Analyst Intern | Personal Lines strategy, portfolio management, pricing support for rate reviews, competitor research | Closed (posted Aug 13, 2026) | Analytical major, spreadsheets, research |
| Underwriting and claims | Department placements named in the 2025 class | Expected Jan to Mar 2027 | Analysis, communication |
| Finance, HR, sales and marketing | Department placements named in the 2025 class | Expected Jan to Mar 2027 | Spreadsheets, communication |
| Data quality and governance, operational excellence | Department placements named in the 2025 class | Expected Jan to Mar 2027 | Data handling, process thinking |
Grange also runs Claims Trainee and Underwriter Trainee programs for graduates "from time to time"; they're entry-level jobs, not internships. Details are on the Grange careers page.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Grange's two summer 2027 postings set these requirements:
• Enrollment: you "must be enrolled in a degree seeking program at the time of internship."
• Major: for the analytical roles, math, statistics, actuarial science, economics, finance or another applicable degree.
• Exams: one passed actuarial exam is preferred for the Actuarial Intern, not required.
• Tools: working knowledge of spreadsheet applications is required.
• Location: Columbus, Ohio, hybrid, with Tuesday and Wednesday in the office.
• Work authorization: the Grange posting text we read doesn't address visa sponsorship, so ask the program team before you apply.

Is There a GPA Cutoff at Grange?
Grange doesn't publish one. Neither summer 2027 posting we read names a minimum GPA, and the careers page doesn't either. That doesn't mean grades are ignored, so list your GPA if it helps you. The hard requirements Grange does state are enrollment during the internship and spreadsheet skills; for actuarial, an exam strengthens your application.

What Skills Does Grange Insurance Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Grange's postings ask for a short list of skills, and the program pages add the rest. Analytical roles (actuarial and product) require spreadsheet fluency and ask for data collection and analysis, pricing support for rate reviews and, for product, market and competitor research. Every intern works on a cross-functional group project and presents a capstone to senior leaders, so teamwork and presenting count for all departments.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each Grange skill maps to a remote Externship that gives you a finished project to discuss before the next wave posts.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing and financial analysis | Actuarial Intern: "phases of rate review or loss reserve appraisal" | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis and Private Company Valuation |
| Data analysis for portfolio decisions | Product Analyst Intern: Personal Lines portfolio management and rate review support | Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy |
| Data structure and quality | 2025 placements in data quality and governance | Breaking Games SQL Database Architecture |

The closest match is Attronica: its valuation project is spreadsheet analysis that ends in a recommendation, the same shape as a rate review summary.
What Is the Grange Insurance Application and Interview Process Like?
Grange publishes how to apply but not its interview format. What we can confirm:
1. Watch the board. Grange posts on its UKG job board, linked from the careers page. Actuarial and product roles posted in August this cycle; other departments are expected from January 2027.
2. Apply to the department role. Each placement is its own posting, so apply to each role you want.
3. Ask the program team. Questions go to InternDevProgram@grangeinsurance.com, which Grange publishes for this purpose.
4. Interviews. Grange doesn't describe its interview steps, and we found no first-hand intern account. Prepare examples of spreadsheet analysis and team projects, since those are the requirements the postings name.
5. The program. If selected, you work 14 weeks in your department and on a group capstone presented to senior leaders.

What Reddit Says About Working at Grange
No Reddit thread discusses a Grange internship first-hand, so these cards show how employees and job seekers talk about Grange as an employer.
Commenters who said they worked at Grange described good work-life balance and a stable place to stay long term; the main complaint was the cafeteria.
A Columbus job seeker applying for actuarial roles and internships named Nationwide, Aon and Grange as the area's main actuarial employers. A reply warned that competition comes from candidates who use Excel daily or already had actuarial internships.
Asked where to start a claims or underwriting career in Ohio, commenters listed Grange among the state's headquartered carriers, and one noted that entry-level underwriting training programs are competitive.
How Do You Stand Out for a Grange Insurance Internship?
Three moves. First, get the timing right. Actuarial and product roles posted in August this cycle, months before the other departments are expected, so for summer 2028 check the board from late July 2027. For every other department, check weekly from January 2027. Second, clear the stated bar. Spreadsheet skills are required on both postings, and an actuarial exam is preferred for actuarial, so show a real spreadsheet project and list any exam you've passed. Third, prepare for the capstone. Every intern presents a group project to senior leaders, so bring a team project with a clear result. Grange publishes no applicant count or conversion rate; its careers page profiles one former intern now working as a Data Insights Analyst.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Grange Insurance internship?
No. Summer 2026 ran mid-May to mid-August 2026. For summer 2027, the Actuarial Intern and Product Analyst Intern roles posted August 13, 2026 and have closed; on October 5, 2026 Grange's board listed no internships. The other departments are expected to post around January to March 2027.
When do Grange summer 2027 applications open?
In two waves. Actuarial and product roles opened on August 13, 2026 and are closed. Underwriting, claims, finance, HR, marketing and data roles are expected around January to March 2027, based on Grange's last cycle opening in early 2026. That projection is low confidence because the calendar shifted this year.
How long is the Grange Insurance internship?
Fourteen weeks, from mid-May to mid-August, at 38.75 hours a week. It's hybrid: interns are in the Columbus office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and remote the other three days, according to the summer 2027 Product Analyst Intern posting. The summer ends with a group capstone presented to senior leaders.
Are Grange Insurance internships paid?
Yes. Grange's careers page says it offers students paid opportunities. It doesn't publish an hourly rate, and the posting text we read had no pay figure. Rates on job aggregator sites aren't tied to Grange's own postings, so we don't repeat them here. Ask the program team during your interview.
Which departments take Grange interns?
In 2025, interns worked in underwriting, claims, finance, human resources, sales and marketing, product, actuarial, inclusive culture and community impact, operational excellence, and data quality and governance. For summer 2027, only actuarial and product have posted so far, and both are closed. The rest are expected in early 2027.
Do I need an actuarial exam for the Grange actuarial internship?
No, but it helps. The Actuarial Intern posting lists one passed actuarial exam as preferred, not required. It also asks for a math, statistics, actuarial science or similar major and spreadsheet skills. The next actuarial role, for summer 2028, is expected around August 2027, which leaves time to sit an exam.
What is the Grange internship capstone?
Interns work together on a cross-functional corporate project alongside their department work, and the program ends with a capstone presentation to senior leaders. Grange's program also includes mentorship, workshops, job shadowing, Coffee Chats with leadership and an internal development conference, according to its careers page and internship releases.
Is the Grange internship program well regarded?
Yes. RISE named Grange's Intern Development Program one of the insurance industry's Elite 50 internship programs for the third consecutive year in 2025. Grange has also been named a Columbus Top Workplace. Grange doesn't publish an intern-to-full-time conversion rate, so judge return chances by asking the program team.
Grange's next summer 2027 wave is expected in January. Use the months before it to build a finished analysis project: a remote Externship gives you one to put on your resume and talk through in interviews.
