Last updated: October 2026
Westfield's summer 2027 internships are open now, through two programs on one job board. On October 5, 2026, its careers board showed one "Westfield Summer Intern" posting for the Westfield Center, Ohio headquarters, covering 14 areas from actuarial and claims to data science and turfgrass management, plus nine Westfield Specialty postings in New York, Chicago, Alpharetta and Berkeley Heights. In plain words: you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027.
The two programs differ. Westfield Specialty pays a published $25 an hour for ten weeks, June 7 to August 13, 2027, on site four days a week, with a 3.2 GPA minimum on most roles. The Ohio headquarters program is hybrid and paid, but doesn't publish a rate or dates. Neither states a deadline, and last year's postings came down one at a time from late December, so apply this fall.
What Is a Westfield Insurance Internship?
A Westfield Insurance internship is a paid, 10-week summer program at Westfield, the property and casualty insurer founded in 1848 as Ohio Farmers Insurance Company and headquartered in Westfield Center, Ohio. Westfield sells through independent agents and describes itself on its postings as a mutual insurance company with more than 3,000 employees. Interns at headquarters work on projects in one area, join networking and volunteer events, and present their work to business leaders. Westfield Specialty, the specialty-lines arm launched in 2021, runs its own program in city offices with a mentor, weekly lunch-and-learns with senior leaders and a group project. Westfield's about page notes that its internship program made the RISE Elite Top 50 list in 2021, 2023 and 2024. It's not connected to Westfield shopping centers or Westfield State University.

When Do Westfield Insurance Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Westfield posted its summer 2027 headquarters program on September 4, 2026, about nine months before a June start, and Westfield Specialty's on September 21, with an actuarial role on October 1. By our estimate, Specialty's wave came earlier than last year's, which was created between late September and mid-December 2025. Last cycle the headquarters program ran as about 30 separate postings that closed in stages: the surety posting by late December 2025, several security and communications postings around January 20, and the last ones around April 8. Treat those prior dates as approximate, since Westfield's board doesn't show them and they come from job mirrors.
Applications for summer 2027 are open right now in both programs: the headquarters Summer Intern posting and nine Westfield Specialty roles in four cities.
Review continues on a rolling basis. Last cycle the first headquarters posting came down in late December, so applications sent by then see the most open seats.
Westfield Specialty may add a second wave of line-specific underwriting roles, as it did in February 2026 (low confidence). Headquarters may add area-specific postings alongside the main one.
Remaining seats close. Last cycle's final Specialty and headquarters postings came down between April and May 2026.
Westfield Specialty's program runs June 7 to August 13, 2027. The headquarters program also runs 10 weeks; its dates aren't published. Specialty invites top interns to discuss its 18 to 24 month Trainee Program.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
None of Westfield's ten summer 2027 postings states a deadline, and none says "rolling" either. The evidence is in how last cycle ended. Westfield's summer 2026 postings didn't close together. Job mirrors recorded the headquarters surety posting closing around December 28, 2025, several security and communications postings around January 20, others in February, and the last Specialty roles in April and May 2026. Seats go one area at a time, so an October applicant can choose from every area while a March applicant picks from what's left. Apply in the first weeks, and apply to both programs if both fit you.
Which Westfield Insurance Internship Programs Should You Target?
Westfield runs two separate summer programs. You can apply to both.
| Program | Areas | Location | Key facts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Headquarters Summer Internship Program | Actuarial, claims, communications, data analytics, data science, finance and accounting, government relations, HR, information security, IT, internal audit, risk control, hospitality and turfgrass | Westfield Center, OH (hybrid) | One posting for all 14 areas; paid; no GPA stated; no sponsorship |
| Westfield Specialty: Underwriting | Specialty lines such as cyber, D&O, E&O, property and casualty | New York, Chicago, Alpharetta | $25/hr; 3.2 GPA; on site 4 days |
| Westfield Specialty: Claims, Operations, IT | Claims handling, operations support, IT | Berkeley Heights, NJ; IT also Chicago | $25/hr; 3.2 GPA; on site 4 days |
| Westfield Specialty: Marketing | Content, social media, campaigns, research | New York | $25/hr; 3.2 GPA; on site 4 days |
| Westfield Specialty: Actuarial | Data sets, pricing and reserving support | Chicago (posted Oct 1) | $25/hr; must be sitting for an actuarial exam |
The Specialty posting also lists a New York actuarial seat that wasn't posted on October 5. Westfield has run fall and winter internships in Ohio in past years, but none is posted for this year.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The two programs set different rules. Read the posting for the one you want:
• Enrollment: both want bachelor's or master's students; Specialty requires enrollment at a four-year college or university.
• GPA: Westfield Specialty requires a 3.2 minimum on its eight program postings (the actuarial role names none). Headquarters asks only for "strong academic performance."
• Work authorization: the headquarters posting says applicants must be authorized to work in the US full time "without employer sponsorship." Specialty's postings don't address it, so ask the recruiter.
• On-site time: Specialty requires being in the office four days a week; headquarters is hybrid.
• Actuarial: Specialty's actuarial intern must at least be sitting for an actuarial exam, and passed exams are highly preferred.

Is the 3.2 GPA a Hard Cutoff at Westfield?
For Westfield Specialty's program roles, treat it as one: each posting says "Minimum GPA of 3.2 required." It doesn't apply to the headquarters program, which names no GPA, or to Specialty's actuarial role. Class year isn't stated in either program, so sophomores, juniors and master's students can all apply.

What Skills Does Westfield Insurance Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Westfield Specialty's eight program postings share one list: strong communication, leadership experience from work, clubs, athletics or service, and being technically adept and digitally savvy. The underwriting roles add research, data analysis and risk assessment on complex applications in lines like cyber and D&O, including organizing loss runs and financial statements. The actuarial role asks for Excel and an exam in progress, and lists SQL, R, Python and Power BI as a plus. The headquarters posting wants collaboration, critical thinking and initiative, and asks interns to present recommendations to leaders.

What Is the Westfield Insurance Application and Interview Process Like?
Westfield publishes only the first steps. Here is what its pages and postings say:
1. Create an account and apply. Westfield's FAQ says you follow the on-screen prompts and need an account to upload a resume and cover letter.
2. Pick the right posting. Headquarters applicants apply to the single Westfield Summer Intern posting, so make your target area obvious in your resume and cover letter. Specialty applicants apply to the specific office and function.
3. Meet Westfield at career fairs. Westfield says it recruits at many college and university career fairs.
4. Interviews. Westfield doesn't publish its interview format; expect behavioral questions built around the competencies on the posting: collaborating, communicating effectively, customer focus, decision quality and learning quickly.
5. Offer. No offer dates are published; last cycle's postings closed between late December and May.
Our behavioral interview guide helps you prepare stories for each of those competencies.
What Interns Say on Handshake
Reddit has no threads about Westfield internships, so these cards come from first-hand intern reviews on Westfield's Handshake profile, all set at the Westfield Center headquarters.
A data analytics intern said the projects had a real impact on the company and praised the mentorship program and networking across departments, though they wished project deadlines had been clearer.
An HR operations intern did real process work, enrolling new hires in benefits and researching state laws for a driving-record consent form, found coworkers welcoming, and advised meeting as many people as possible.
An IT intern said they were treated as a valuable member of a project team and advised future interns to go above and beyond to build a reputation.
How Do You Stand Out for a Westfield Insurance Internship?
Three moves. First, choose your program on purpose, or apply to both. Headquarters is hybrid in Ohio with 14 areas; Westfield Specialty is underwriting-heavy, city-based and on site four days a week. Second, name your area clearly. The headquarters posting covers every area at once, so a resume headline and cover letter aimed at one area (say, data science or claims) is easier to route. Third, show specialty-lines curiosity for Specialty underwriting. The posting mentions cyber, D&O and E&O risks, so read a short primer on one of those lines and bring a view to the interview. Westfield publishes no applicant count or conversion rate, though 96% of interns it surveyed said they would consider working there after graduation.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Westfield internship?
No. Westfield's summer 2026 postings closed between late December 2025 and spring 2026, and that program has run. Summer 2027 is open now: the headquarters posted its Summer Intern role on September 4, 2026, and Westfield Specialty posted nine 2027 Summer Intern Program roles on September 21 and October 1.
When do Westfield internship applications open for summer 2027?
They already have. Applications for summer 2027 opened in September 2026 on Westfield's careers board, about nine months before a June 2027 start. Westfield Specialty's program runs June 7 to August 13, 2027; the headquarters program also lasts 10 weeks, but its dates aren't published.
Is there a deadline for Westfield internships?
None is stated on any of the ten summer 2027 postings. Last cycle, though, individual postings came down one at a time from late December 2025 through May 2026, so seats close area by area. Applying in October or November gives you the widest choice of areas and offices.
How much do Westfield interns get paid?
Westfield Specialty pays $25 an hour on all nine of its summer 2027 postings. The Ohio headquarters program says its internships are paid with competitive pay but doesn't publish a rate, so ask the recruiter. Westfield doesn't mention housing or relocation help for either program.
Is there a GPA requirement for Westfield internships?
Westfield Specialty requires a minimum 3.2 GPA on its eight program postings; its actuarial posting names none. The headquarters posting asks only for strong academic performance, with no set GPA. Neither program states a class year, so undergraduates and master's students can apply.
Does Westfield sponsor visas for interns?
The headquarters posting says applicants must be authorized to work in the US full time without employer sponsorship. Westfield Specialty's summer 2027 postings don't address sponsorship either way, so international students should ask the recruiter before applying to a Specialty role.
Where are Westfield internships located?
Headquarters interns work a hybrid schedule in Westfield Center, Ohio. Westfield Specialty interns work on site four days a week in New York, Chicago, Berkeley Heights in New Jersey, or Alpharetta in Georgia, depending on the role. Underwriting is offered in New York, Chicago and Alpharetta.
Do Westfield interns get full-time offers?
Westfield doesn't publish a conversion rate. Westfield Specialty says it welcomes discussing full-time roles in its 18 to 24 month Trainee Program with interns who excel, and 96% of surveyed Westfield interns said they would consider working there after graduation.
Both Westfield programs are open now, with seats closing area by area from late December. Apply this fall, and bring something concrete: a remote Externship gives you a finished analysis or data project to discuss in your Westfield interviews.
