Last updated: October 2026
GEICO's summer 2027 business internships are open now. On October 5, 2026, its Workday job board showed five summer 2027 intern postings: finance and operations, controllers, actuarial, human resources and marketing, all posted between September 14 and 29. Each one pays a published $24.93 to $41.21 an hour for ten weeks, June 7 to August 13, 2027. In plain words: you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027.
The tech internship runs on a different clock. GEICO's TDP Software & AI Internship isn't posted yet. Last year GEICO announced its tech and AI internship applications around December 1, and the posting came down around January 12. So business majors can apply today, and computer science majors should get ready for a short window in late November or early December 2026.
What Is a GEICO Internship?
A GEICO internship is a paid, 10-week summer program at GEICO, the auto insurer founded in 1936 and part of the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies. Interns join one function, such as finance, actuarial, HR, marketing or technology, and work on projects for that team. Each posting describes GEICO as "the choice of more than 15 million customers." The postings also call it one of the largest auto insurers in the United States. Every summer 2027 posting names a full-time development program the internship feeds, so the internship is GEICO's main entry route for graduates. Our Berkshire Hathaway internship guide covers the parent and its other companies; this page covers GEICO's own programs. Internships at independently owned GEICO Local Office agencies are set by those agencies and aren't part of this program.

When Do GEICO Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
GEICO posted its summer 2027 business wave between September 14 and 29, 2026, about eight to nine months before the June 7, 2027 start. Last cycle's business postings stayed up into March, and offers were still going out on March 10, 2026. The tech track follows a later, shorter pattern: last cycle GEICO said its tech and AI internship applications were open around December 1, 2025, and the posting closed around January 12, 2026, so applications for summer 2027 are expected in late November or early December 2026. The Claims Rotational internship circulated in early October last year and hasn't been reposted yet.
Applications for summer 2027 are open right now on the five business tracks: finance and operations, controllers, actuarial, HR and marketing. The TDP Software & AI internship isn't posted yet.
Keep applying on the business tracks while seats are open. The Claims Rotational internship for summer 2027 may post (low confidence). Computer science students: practice timed coding problems and decide between the AI and software tracks.
TDP Software & AI applications for summer 2027 are expected to open. Last cycle the window ran about six weeks, from around December 1 to January 12, across finals and the holidays.
TDP recruiter screens and final rounds, based on last cycle's late December to February pattern. Business-track offers last cycle continued into March.
The internship runs June 7 to August 13, 2027. Each track feeds a full-time development program, and in August and September 2026 GEICO posted full-time roles open only to that summer's interns.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
The two sides of GEICO need different urgency. Business tracks are rolling. None of the five summer 2027 postings states a deadline or a closing date, and last cycle GEICO was still making analyst offers in March. That doesn't mean you can wait: the class fills as offers go out, so the earliest applicants see the most open seats. The tech track is a short window. Last year the TDP Software & AI internship opened around December 1 and closed around January 12, about six weeks over exams and the holidays. If you're a CS major, have your resume and transcripts ready before Thanksgiving and apply in the first week the posting appears.
Which GEICO Internship Programs Should You Target?
GEICO's summer 2027 postings split into five business tracks open now and a tech track expected in December.
| Program | Focus | Location | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Analyst Internship Program: Finance & Operations (open) | FP&A for business areas, risk management, treasury, internal audit, strategy | Bethesda, NYC, Chicago | Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint |
| Analyst Internship Program: Controllers (open) | Financial reporting, reconciliations, tax | Bethesda, NYC | Accounting major required; GAAP preferred |
| Actuarial Internship (open) | Reserving, claim trends, frequency and severity projections | Bethesda, Chicago | Excel, SQL, R or Python, Power BI |
| Human Resources Internship (open) | Rotations in learning, compensation, engagement, talent acquisition | Bethesda | Communication, project work |
| Marketing Internship (open) | One home team across brand, media and sports partnerships, analytics | New York City | SQL, Power BI, AI tools |
| TDP Software & AI Internship (expected ~Dec 2026) | Software or AI engineering track | Last cycle: NY, Palo Alto, Chicago, MD, TX | Java, C++ or C#, algorithms and data structures |
Last cycle GEICO also ran Claims Rotational, Business Strategy & Analytics and a pricing track; none is posted for summer 2027 yet. All roles live on the GEICO Workday board.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The five open summer 2027 postings set the same core rules:
• Class year: bachelor's or master's students graduating between December 2027 and May 2028, so mostly rising seniors in summer 2027 (actuarial says "by May 2028").
• Major: controllers requires an accounting degree; finance and operations wants finance, business analytics or a related field; actuarial takes math, statistics, actuarial science, economics or another quantitative major.
• GPA: a 3.0 cumulative GPA on all five, and you upload all transcripts.
• Work authorization: every posting says GEICO "will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position."
• Location: you must live within commuting distance of the office; most tracks are hybrid with at least three office days a week.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff at GEICO?
Treat it as one. All five postings name a 3.0 cumulative GPA and ask for every transcript, which makes it a screen rather than a guideline, and we found no GEICO statement about exceptions. The commute rule matters too: GEICO doesn't mention housing, so pick the office you can reach. The TDP tech track last cycle wanted students one year from graduating, not two.

Has any of that experience been finance-related?

What Skills Does GEICO Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
The five open postings share a core of communication, analytical problem solving and attention to detail, which appear in every one. On the tools side, Excel and Power BI show up in four, PowerPoint in three, and SQL in the actuarial and marketing postings. The actuarial role adds R, Python, SAS, Snowflake and the reserving tool ResQ, and the marketing role mentions AI tools "including Claude Code, and agent creation." Last cycle's TDP tech posting asked for Java, C++ or C#, object-oriented design, and algorithms and data structures.

How Is Demand for Finance Interns Moving Right Now?

vs 336 in August
For GEICO applicants: GEICO's five summer 2027 business postings went up September 14 to 29, 2026, and none states a deadline, while its TDP Software & AI internship isn't posted yet. Apply to the finance and operations, controllers or actuarial track this month rather than waiting.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each GEICO skill maps to a remote Externship that gives you a finished project to discuss in interviews.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Financial planning and analysis | Finance and operations track: FP&A for business areas, treasury, strategy and financial analysis | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis and Private Company Valuation |
| SQL and data | Actuarial (SQL, Snowflake) and marketing (moving audiences from SQL to Hightouch) | Breaking Games SQL Database Architecture |
| Dashboards and reporting | Power BI named in four of five postings | TruBridge Healthcare Data Analytics |
| AI agents | Marketing: "Creating AI agents for documentation generation"; TDP's AI track | Wayfair n8n AI Agent Engineering |
The finance match is closest: the finance and operations track asks interns to build recommendations for business stakeholders, which is how the Attronica project ends.
What Is the GEICO Application and Interview Process Like?
GEICO doesn't publish a step-by-step process for its business tracks. Here is what the postings and candidate reports show:
1. Apply on Workday. Apply to each role separately on the one GEICO board and upload all transcripts.
2. Business-track interviews. The format isn't published. Last cycle a New York analyst intern accepted an offer on March 10, 2026, so decisions run over several months.
3. TDP recruiter prescreen. Candidates describe a 5 to 10 minute call confirming visa status, graduation date, location and whether you want the AI or software track.
4. TDP final round. About 90 minutes: roughly 30 minutes behavioral and 60 minutes technical on Codility. One candidate got a dynamic programming problem.
5. Offer. TDP candidates reported offers from two days to two weeks after the final, about three to four weeks end to end.
GEICO's own description of the tech process is a "technical skills assessment and multi-dimensional interviews"; our behavioral interview guide helps with the behavioral half.
What Students on Reddit Say
Most Reddit threads about GEICO internships come from TDP tech candidates, plus one business-track offer thread.
A TDP candidate described a quick recruiter screen about visa status, graduation date, location and the AI or software track, followed by a final of about 30 minutes behavioral and an hour technical.
Another candidate said the final ran on Codility with a dynamic programming question and a standard behavioral section, and the offer came two days later.
Students weighing a TDP offer heard that GEICO's tech side is a solid summer, and a former sophomore intern said it helped with later offers at large tech companies.
A student accepted a summer 2026 analyst internship in New York in March. Commenters called it good resume experience but advised caution about long-term roles.
How Do You Stand Out for a GEICO Internship?
Three moves. First, match the gate before you apply. Check the graduation window (December 2027 to May 2028), the 3.0 GPA, the no-sponsorship line and the commute rule, and have every transcript ready. Controllers is for accounting majors; finance students belong on the finance and operations track. Second, show the tools by name. Excel and Power BI appear in four of five postings and SQL in two, so bring a project where you built a model or dashboard and can explain the result. Third, CS majors should prepare before the window opens. Practice timed Codility-style problems in November and decide between the AI and software tracks, since the recruiter asks. GEICO publishes no applicant count or conversion rate.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 GEICO internship?
No. The summer 2026 program ran June 8 to August 14, 2026, and its postings are closed. The open door is summer 2027: five business internships in finance and operations, controllers, actuarial, HR and marketing are live now. The TDP Software & AI internship is expected to open around late November or early December 2026.
When do GEICO internship applications open for summer 2027?
The business tracks opened September 14 to 29, 2026, and are open now. The TDP Software & AI internship opened around December 1 last cycle, so expect its summer 2027 posting in late November or early December 2026. The Claims Rotational internship may post around October 2026, but that estimate is low confidence.
Does GEICO hire interns on a rolling basis?
For business tracks, yes in practice. None of the five summer 2027 postings states a deadline, and last cycle GEICO was still making analyst offers in March. The tech internship is different: last year it was open only about six weeks, from around December 1 to January 12, so apply in its first week.
How much do GEICO interns make?
GEICO publishes hourly ranges on each posting. For summer 2027, actuarial and finance and operations pay $24.93 to $41.21 an hour, and controllers, HR and marketing pay $26.46 to $41.21. Last cycle's TDP tech posting listed $27.98 to $50.36. GEICO labels the ranges "annual salary," but the figures are hourly.
What GPA do you need for a GEICO internship?
A 3.0 cumulative GPA. All five summer 2027 postings state it, and each asks you to upload all transcripts, so treat it as a screen. The postings also want students graduating between December 2027 and May 2028, and the controllers track requires an accounting major.
Does GEICO sponsor visas for interns?
No. Every open summer 2027 posting says GEICO "will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position," and TDP candidates last cycle said the recruiter screen asked about visa status first. International students should check this before applying to any GEICO internship.
What is the GEICO TDP internship interview like?
Candidates last cycle described a 5 to 10 minute recruiter screen, then a final of about 90 minutes: around 30 minutes behavioral and 60 minutes of coding on Codility, sometimes a dynamic programming problem. Offers came two days to two weeks later. GEICO calls it a technical skills assessment plus multi-dimensional interviews.
Do GEICO interns get full-time offers?
GEICO doesn't publish a conversion rate. Each summer 2027 posting names the full-time program the internship leads to, such as the Analyst Development Program or the HR Development Program, and in August and September 2026 GEICO posted full-time technology roles open only to that summer's interns.
GEICO's business tracks are open now and the tech window should open around December. Apply on time, and build a project you can talk about: a remote Externship gives you finished FP&A, SQL or AI work for your GEICO interviews.
