Last updated: October 2026

The Bonadio Group hires its spring and summer interns in one fall wave, and the wave for 2027 is over. Its two postings for spring 2027 and summer 2027, one for Upstate New York and one for Dallas, said next-round interviews would be scheduled for September 2026, and a job-board copy of the Dallas posting shows it closed on September 30, 2026. On October 12, 2026, the firm's Workday board listed 44 openings and none was an internship. The next wave, for spring 2028 and summer 2028, is expected around August 2027.

In plain words: you apply in fall 2027, then intern in spring 2028 (January to April) or summer 2028 (June to August). Pay was published this cycle. The closed postings stated $22 an hour for the Upstate New York offices and $30 an hour for Dallas.

What Is a Bonadio Group Internship?

A Bonadio Group internship is a paid, in-person accounting internship at The Bonadio Group, a CPA firm founded in 1978 and headquartered in Rochester, New York. It runs in two cohorts: a part-time spring internship from January to April in tax, small business advisory or assurance, and a summer internship from June to August in assurance. The firm's about page counts more than 1,000 professionals and more than 10 offices across New York, Vermont, Florida, Texas and Delaware. It's No. 46 on Vault's current Most Prestigious Accounting Firms list, and the firm says it has placed in Inside Public Accounting's top 50 for six consecutive years. Its internships page says "many of our interns receive future offers to join our firm."

When Do Bonadio Group Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Bonadio recruits both cohorts at once. Its internships page was linking the two 2027 postings by August 20, 2026, so they were live by then: about 4.5 months before the January 2027 spring start and about 9.5 months before the June 2027 summer start. The postings gave no deadline but said next-round interviews "will be scheduled for September 2026." A job-board copy of the Dallas posting says the firm closed it on September 30, 2026, and both postings were gone when we checked on October 12. So applications for spring 2028 and summer 2028 are expected to open around August 2027 and close around late September 2027. That projection rests on one dated cycle. The firm's 2023 FAQ puts intern recruiting "in the September/October time frame," so the window may have moved earlier.

Applications for spring 2027 and summer 2027 are closed. Both postings, Upstate New York and Dallas, are off the Workday board, and none of the board's 44 openings is an internship. The next wave is about ten months away.

Use the gap: the Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling Externship or the Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy Externship gives you a finished project, and real Excel practice, before the next postings appear.

Preparation time. Bonadio's own advice is to brush up on Excel before applying. Keep your accounting coursework on track for CPA eligibility, and look for the firm at campus events, since it says meeting in person is best.

August 2027EXPECTEDSHORT WINDOW — APPLY WEEK 1

Applications for spring 2028 and summer 2028 are expected to open, one posting per region covering both cohorts. This cycle's postings were live by August 20, 2026. Start checking the Workday board in early August.

September 2027EXPECTED

Campus recruiting and next-round interviews for spring 2028 and summer 2028, based on this cycle's September interviews. Expect the postings to come down around the end of the month.

January to August 2028

The spring 2028 cohort runs January to April (tax, small business advisory, assurance), and the summer 2028 cohort runs June to August (assurance).

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Bonadio's window is short, and nothing in the postings warns you when it'll end. This cycle's spring 2027 and summer 2027 postings carried no deadline. They said only that next-round interviews would be scheduled for September 2026, and by about September 30 they were closed. That's roughly six weeks from the earliest date we can show them live. There's a second reason to move fast: one posting covers both cohorts and every track. Miss the fall wave and you've missed the spring internship and the summer one together, with no later round to catch. For spring 2028 and summer 2028, plan to apply in the first week the postings appear, which we expect around August 2027.

Which Bonadio Group Internship Programs Should You Target?

Bonadio posts one requisition per region that covers both cohorts and every track. These are the tracks from this cycle's closed 2027 postings, the best guide to what 2028 will look like.

Assurance Internship (summer)The same assurance work; the only summer trackJune to August; about 36 hours a weekAlbany, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Dallas

None of these is posted today. When the next wave opens it'll be on the Workday board. We found no intern posting this cycle for the firm's New York City, Utica, Rutland, Sarasota or Wilmington offices, so don't count on internships there.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

These requirements come from this cycle's closed 2027 postings and the firm's FAQ:

• Enrollment: "Active enrollment in an accredited bachelor's or master's in accounting program."

• Coursework: "Coursework that supports progress toward the requirements for CPA eligibility."

• Skills: strong written and verbal communication, organizational and analytical ability, attention to detail, and Microsoft Office.

• Class year and GPA: neither was stated.

• Work authorization: the postings didn't address sponsorship, so ask the recruiter.

• Work model: in person at your assigned office. The firm's FAQ answers the remote question with "Not at this time."

Is There a GPA Cutoff at the Bonadio Group?

None was published. The 2027 postings named no GPA and no class year. What they did ask for is an accounting program and coursework that keeps you on the path to CPA eligibility, which matters more here than a number: the firm's full-time entry role is built for CPA-eligible graduates. The spring internship is part-time around classes, so it's open to students who are still mid-degree.

What Skills Does the Bonadio Group Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Both closed postings asked for the same base: written and verbal communication, organizational and analytical ability, attention to detail and Microsoft Office, on top of CPA-track accounting coursework. The technical work depends on the track. Tax interns "prepare individual, small business, and corporate tax returns" and help with research and planning. Small business advisory interns handle bookkeeping and financial statement compilations. Assurance interns work on Form 990 support, employee benefit plan engagements and year-end audits. The firm's internships page adds one plain tip: "Brush up on your Excel skills or take a refresher course before applying." No source names a tax or audit software package.

What Is the Bonadio Group Application and Interview Process Like?

Bonadio doesn't publish a round-by-round process. This is what the closed 2027 postings and the firm's own pages describe:

1. Meet the firm on campus. The FAQ says it typically recruits interns "during on-campus recruitment" and that "connecting in person is always best."

2. Apply on Workday. Apply to your region's posting, Upstate New York or Dallas. One posting covers every track and both cohorts.

3. Talent Management discussion. The postings said the process "includes a discussion with our Talent Management team" and that all contact comes from an @bonadio.com address.

4. Next-round interviews. This cycle they were scheduled for September. The internships page mentions an "in-person interview phase."

5. Offer. Timing isn't published.

The number of rounds and the interview content aren't published, and we found no first-hand interview account. If your school isn't one the firm visits, its FAQ says to contact the recruiting team or apply through the careers page. Our behavioral interview guide is a good place to prepare.

What Students on Reddit Say

Reddit has no first-hand account of interning or interviewing at the Bonadio Group; threads in r/Accounting and r/Buffalo mention it only as one of the larger Upstate New York employers, so we haven't built quote cards. The closest thing to first-hand detail is the firm's own 2022 intern profile: a tax intern worked on 1040s and extensions, and a small business advisory intern started on 1099s in January and moved to tax returns by February.

How Do You Stand Out for a Bonadio Group Internship?

Three moves. First, treat this as an August application. The 2027 postings were live by August 20, 2026 and closed about six weeks later, so check the Workday board from early August 2027. Second, decide your cohort and track before you apply. One posting covers everything, and the options aren't symmetrical: summer is assurance only, tax and small business advisory are spring only, East Aurora is spring only, and Dallas has no small business advisory track. Third, take the firm's own advice. Its internships page tells candidates to brush up on Excel, to ask specific questions that show you understand the accounting industry, and to keep a professional appearance for the in-person interviews. The Bonadio Group publishes no class size, applicant count or conversion rate.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2027 Bonadio Group internship?

No. The postings for spring 2027 and summer 2027, one for Upstate New York and one for Dallas, closed around September 30, 2026. On October 12, 2026, the firm's Workday board listed 44 openings and none was an internship. The next wave, for spring 2028 and summer 2028, is expected around August 2027.

When do Bonadio Group internship applications open for summer 2028?

Around August 2027, we expect. This cycle's postings were live by August 20, 2026, about 9.5 months before the June summer start, and the same posting covered the spring cohort. The estimate rests on one dated cycle, so start checking the firm's Workday board in early August 2027.

Does the Bonadio Group hire interns on a rolling basis?

No. It recruits both cohorts in one short fall window. This cycle's postings stated no deadline, said next-round interviews would be scheduled for September 2026, and were closed by about September 30, roughly six weeks after they appeared. Missing that window means missing both the spring and the summer internship.

How much do Bonadio Group interns get paid?

This cycle's postings, now closed, stated $22 an hour for the Upstate New York offices and $30 an hour for Dallas. Those rates applied to the spring 2027 and summer 2027 cohorts; we read them from job-board copies of the postings. Rates for 2028 aren't published yet, and housing or relocation wasn't mentioned.

What GPA do you need for a Bonadio Group internship?

None was stated. The 2027 postings named no GPA and no class year. They asked for active enrollment in an accredited bachelor's or master's accounting program, coursework that supports CPA eligibility, strong communication, attention to detail and Microsoft Office. The firm's internships page also suggests an Excel refresher before applying.

What internships does the Bonadio Group offer?

Two cohorts. The spring internship runs January to April at about 20 to 25 hours a week, in tax, small business advisory or assurance. The summer internship runs June to August at about 36 hours a week, in assurance only. All are in person, in Upstate New York offices or Dallas.

What is the Bonadio Group interview process like?

The firm doesn't publish it in detail. The 2027 postings said the process includes a discussion with the Talent Management team and that next-round interviews would be scheduled for September 2026. The internships page mentions an in-person interview phase. We found no first-hand account of the questions asked.

Do Bonadio Group interns get full-time offers?

The firm publishes no conversion rate. Its internships page says many of its interns receive future offers to join the firm, and the postings described a potential pathway to future internships and full-time roles. Its entry-level staff accountant posting for Upstate New York, live in October 2026, lists $60,500 a year.

The Bonadio Group's next intern postings, for spring 2028 and summer 2028, are expected around August 2027, and this cycle's stayed up only about six weeks. Use the months before then: a remote Externship gives you a finished analysis project and the Excel practice the firm asks for.
