Last updated: October 2026

Warren Averett doesn't run a summer internship, and it recruits much earlier than most regional firms. Its internship is a spring one, traditionally January through April, usually in the spring semester of senior year. On October 12, 2026, the firm's campus careers site listed exactly three openings: the 2028 Tax Internship, 2028 Audit Internship and 2028 Administrative Internship, all posted on March 3, 2026. That's about 22 months before a January 2028 start.

In plain words: you apply in 2026 or early 2027, and you intern in spring 2028. The 2027 internships are no longer listed, and the firm's own FAQ says it hasn't offered summer internships in the past. If you came here looking for a summer 2027 role, this page explains what exists instead.

What Is a Warren Averett Internship?

A Warren Averett internship is a spring-semester role in the tax or audit practice of Warren Averett CPAs & Advisors, a Birmingham, Alabama accounting firm that dates its history to 1972. The firm's FAQ says a typical intern day "is very similar to a typical day of a full-time staff in that department": tax interns start on simpler returns and audit interns start on simpler sections such as cash. Its campus site describes 750+ employees in 13 offices, "one of the largest firms in the Southeast." Warren Averett is #37 on Vault's 2027 Most Prestigious Accounting Firms list. The internship postings add that the firm has ranked on two Forbes lists, America's Best Tax Firms and America's Best Accounting Firms. A third track, the Administrative Internship, supports the tax and audit teams through busy season.

When Do Warren Averett Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Warren Averett recruits one spring cohort at a time, and it posts early. The three 2028 internship postings carry a page date of March 3, 2026, about 22 months before a January 2028 start. The only earlier round with a date we could recover shows the same habit: the firm's "2026 Tax Internship" page was published on June 7, 2024, about 19 months before January 2026. No 2027 internship is listed on either of the firm's job sites today, and the site keeps no record of when a posting comes down, so we can't date that round. On those two data points, applications for spring 2029 should appear some time between March and June 2027, but the posting month moved three months earlier between the two rounds, so hold that loosely.

Applications for the spring 2028 internship (traditionally January to April 2028) are open for Tax, Audit and Administrative, posted March 3, 2026 with no deadline. The spring 2027 internships are no longer listed, and there's no summer 2027 internship.

Spring 2028 is more than a year away, which leaves time to build proof. The Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling Externship or the Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy Externship gives you a finished project to put on the resume you submit.
January to April 2027

The spring 2027 internship runs for students recruited in an earlier round. If you're applying for spring 2028, use these months to take your first audit and tax classes and to meet the firm's recruiters when they visit your campus.

March to June 2027EXPECTED

Postings for the spring 2029 internship are expected in this window, projected from two rounds (June 2024 for 2026, March 2026 for 2028). The spring 2028 postings may still be open, but the firm doesn't say when it stops reviewing.

Summer 2027EXPECTED

The two-day Summer Leadership Program, which the firm holds each summer and which juniors can apply to. Dates and location for 2027 aren't published. It isn't an internship, and the firm lists no summer 2027 internship.

January to April 2028

The spring 2028 internship. Tax interns work full-time, 40 hours a week, in a Warren Averett office; audit interns spend most of their time at client offices with their team.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Warren Averett's hiring is rolling. None of the three 2028 postings states a deadline or a closing date, and the firm doesn't publish how many interns it takes or when it stops reviewing. Don't read "2028" as far away. These postings have been up for seven months already, and no 2027 internship is listed even though spring 2027 is still three months away. That suggests the firm finishes recruiting a cohort well before it begins. The FAQ is direct about what helps: the best way to get in front of recruiters is "to connect with us each time we are on your campus." If you're a sophomore or junior, submit your resume now and keep showing up at campus events.

Which Warren Averett Internship Programs Should You Target?

The campus site lists three internships for 2028. Two other programs are for younger students and aren't internships.

The firm's internship page also names Attestation and Business Advisory practices, but neither has its own posting. Its main website still serves old "2026" internship pages from a past round; ignore those and use the campus site.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

The 2028 postings and the firm's FAQ set these expectations:

• Degree: "Must have or be working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting; supported by a strong academic record."

• CPA plan: "a definitive plan to obtain the minimal educational requirements for CPA licensure in the state of your assigned office location, as well as a plan for passing the CPA exam."

• Coursework: the tax posting says the ideal candidate "will have taken the first Audit and Tax classes."

• Class year: the FAQ says a student "typically interns the spring semester of their senior year."

• Availability: tax interns work full-time, 40 hours a week. The audit posting requires the ability to travel overnight.

• GPA and work authorization: neither is stated in any posting.

Is There a GPA Cutoff at Warren Averett?

Not a published one. The postings ask for "a strong academic record" without a number, so we can't tell you a floor. The firmer screen is the CPA plan: the posting wants a definite route to licensure in the state where you'd work, so know that state's credit-hour rule before you interview. One inconsistency to be aware of: the FAQ says administrative internships can go to younger college students and even high school students because accounting knowledge isn't needed, while the administrative posting repeats the accounting degree and CPA requirements. Ask the recruiter which applies.

What Skills Does Warren Averett Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

The three 2028 postings are short, and the tax and audit ones share most of their wording. Both ask for knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, clear written and verbal communication, "a strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task," time management, and learning the firm's software, which they don't name. The tax posting adds "beginning knowledge of Federal and state income tax laws" and the ability to start preparing returns. The audit posting adds generally accepted auditing standards and named sections: cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable and inventory. All three require an accounting degree in progress and a CPA plan.

Build These Skills Before You Apply

No open Externship is an audit or tax program, so these remote Externships match the adjacent skills in the postings.

Because the firm recruits about 22 months ahead, there's a long gap between applying and starting. A finished project in that gap gives you something current to tell recruiters each time they visit campus.

What Is the Warren Averett Application and Interview Process Like?

Warren Averett doesn't use a standard applicant system or publish its interview steps. Here's what its campus site shows:

1. Submit your resume on the campus site. Each posting has a Submit Resume button that opens the firm's own application form. There's one firmwide posting per track.

2. Meet recruiters on campus. The FAQ says to connect with the firm each time it's on your campus and on social media: "The more we see each other and can build a relationship the better." The site's events block showed no scheduled events on October 12, 2026.

3. Interview. The format, number of rounds and offer timing aren't published. Email campus@warrenaverett.com to ask what to expect.

4. Office assignment. The posting refers to "your assigned office location," so be ready to say which office you want and how you'll meet that state's CPA requirements.

Since no interview format is published, prepare for standard fit questions with our behavioral interview guide.

What the Community Says

We found no first-hand accounts from Warren Averett interns on Reddit, and Vault has no internship profile for the firm, so there's nothing honest to quote here. The firm's own FAQ is the best published description of the work.

How Do You Stand Out for a Warren Averett Internship?

Three moves. First, apply as a sophomore or junior. The 2028 postings went up in March 2026, so waiting until senior fall means the round you wanted is probably gone. Second, arrive with a written CPA plan. Name the state of the office you want, its education requirement, and when you'll sit for the exam. The posting asks for a "definitive plan," so a vague answer stands out the wrong way. Third, use the earlier touchpoints. Go to campus events, apply to the Summer Leadership Program as a junior, and plan your degree so senior spring can be a full-time term. Warren Averett publishes no applicant count, class size, pay rate or conversion rate. Its FAQ does say students who didn't intern can still be hired full-time, so the internship isn't the only way in.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a 2027 Warren Averett internship?

Not through a posting. As of October 12, 2026, Warren Averett's campus site lists only 2028 internships, with no 2027 Tax or Audit posting. There's no summer 2027 internship either. If you need spring 2027, email campus@warrenaverett.com to ask whether any seats remain; otherwise apply for spring 2028.

Does Warren Averett have a summer internship?

No, not as a standing program. The firm's FAQ says that in the past it has "not offered summer internships due to the seasonal nature of public accounting," though it's exploring more summer opportunities and evaluates every situation individually. Its posted internships are spring ones, traditionally January to April.

When is the Warren Averett internship?

In spring. The firm's FAQ says its spring internships traditionally last from January to April, and that a student typically interns in the spring semester of senior year. Durations are described as flexible. The tax posting asks for full-time availability at 40 hours a week during the internship.

When do Warren Averett internship applications open?

Very early. The spring 2028 postings went up on March 3, 2026, about 22 months before a January 2028 start, and the 2026 round was posted in June 2024, about 19 months ahead. On that pattern, spring 2029 postings are expected between March and June 2027. No posting states a deadline.

How much do Warren Averett interns make?

Warren Averett doesn't publish intern pay. None of the three 2028 postings gives a rate, and the firm's offices are in Alabama, Florida and Georgia, where employers aren't required to post one. The internship page says interns "earn competitive compensation." Ask the recruiter for the rate in your office.

What are the requirements for a Warren Averett internship?

An accounting degree in progress and a CPA plan. The postings require an undergraduate or graduate accounting degree "supported by a strong academic record" and a definite plan to meet CPA licensure requirements in your office's state. The tax posting prefers students who've taken their first audit and tax classes. No GPA number is published.

What is the Warren Averett Summer Leadership Program?

It's a two-day program, not an internship. Warren Averett hosts it each summer for college students interested in public accounting, with a panel discussion with employees, professional skills sessions and social events. Students apply and are chosen on academic merit, and the FAQ says juniors are eligible. Dates for 2027 aren't published.

Can I get a full-time job at Warren Averett without interning there?

Yes. The firm's FAQ answers this directly: internships are a good way to learn about the firm, but "there is still a great need for additional hires." Warren Averett doesn't publish an intern conversion rate, so there's no number for how many interns return or how many associates come from outside.

Warren Averett's spring 2028 internships are open with no deadline, and no 2027 round is listed any more, so submit your resume early. Use the long gap before the start to finish a project you can show: a remote Externship takes about 8 weeks.
