Last updated: October 2026
Carr, Riggs & Ingram (CRI) hires interns three times a year, and most of its 2027 seats are open now. On October 12, 2026, the CRI job board listed 36 internship postings with 73 stated openings: 18 seats for spring 2027, 26 for summer 2027, 5 for fall 2027, and 24 for spring and summer 2028 in Atlanta and Indianapolis. In plain words: you apply in fall 2026 and intern in 2027, from about January if you take a spring busy-season role, or in summer.
Two things on that board matter before you apply. Twenty-two of the 36 postings belong to CapinCrouse, a nonprofit-focused practice that's now part of CRI and sets its own eligibility rule. And every posting says the firm won't sponsor a work visa, naming OPT and CPT. Pay is published only where state law requires it: $25 to $30 an hour in New York City, Colorado and California.
What Is a Carr, Riggs & Ingram Internship?
A Carr, Riggs & Ingram internship is a seasonal audit, tax or advisory role at CRI, an accounting and advisory firm founded in 1997 with roots in the Southeast. The firm's careers page says interns get "the same training and work responsibilities as a first-year staff accountant." CRI runs spring (busy season), summer and fall cohorts, and each office posts each season as its own opening with a stated number of seats.
CRI's About page describes it as "a nationally ranked, top 25 accounting and advisory firm," and it's ranked #26 on Vault's 2027 Most Prestigious Accounting Firms list. The name covers more than one practice. CapinCrouse, which serves nonprofits, is "now part of CRI" and posts its internships on the same board. So does CRI's Capital Markets Group, which audits public companies. This page covers all three and keeps them separate where the rules differ.

When Do Carr, Riggs & Ingram Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
CRI's board doesn't show posting dates, so its lead times are read from what was live on October 12, 2026. They're lower bounds. Applications for spring 2027 were open at least 3 months before a typical January start, applications for summer 2027 at least 8 months before a typical June start, and applications for fall 2027 about 11 months ahead. Atlanta and Indianapolis go furthest: their spring 2028 postings were up about 15 months ahead and their summer 2028 postings about 20 months ahead. The postings don't state start dates, so January and June are the usual accounting starts, not CRI's own dates. Two Reddit reports fit the pattern: one student signed a CRI offer in early September 2024 for a spring 2025 internship, and another was interviewing in late April 2026 for a summer 2027 audit internship.
Applications are open for spring 2027 (14 postings), summer 2027 (14) and fall 2027 (3). In Atlanta and Indianapolis, applications for spring 2028 and summer 2028 are open too. Counts are from October 12, 2026, and postings close as seats fill.
Spring 2027 seats are expected to fill first, since the cohort starts soonest. Many of those postings list a single opening. In 2024 one student had signed a spring offer by early September, about three months before the start.
Spring 2027 internships are expected to start around January, the usual busy-season start. The postings don't give a date. Summer 2027 and fall 2027 postings stay up until their seats fill.
More applications for summer 2028 may open in other offices around spring 2027. That's a low-confidence estimate based on one report of a summer 2027 interview in late April 2026; only Atlanta and Indianapolis have 2028 postings today.
Summer 2027 internships are expected to start around June (the postings don't state dates or length). CRI publishes no return-offer rate. Fall 2027 interns follow in the autumn.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
CRI's hiring is rolling, and each posting has a seat count. No posting states a deadline. Every one shows a "# of Openings" line instead, from 1 seat up to 9, so a posting stays up until those seats are filled and then it's gone. On October 12, 2026, 21 of the 36 internship postings listed a single opening. A one-seat posting can close after one accepted offer, which is why applying in the week you find it matters more here than at a firm with one large national class. The spring 2027 roles are the most urgent because that cohort starts in about three months. One job-board mirror shows a closing date 30 days after posting for a Melville role; that's the mirror's automatic expiry, not a CRI deadline.
Which Carr, Riggs & Ingram Internship Programs Should You Target?
CRI's 36 postings fall into five tracks. Check which practice a posting belongs to, because CapinCrouse audit roles carry a different eligibility rule from CRI's own.
| Program | Focus | Cohorts and offices posted (Oct 12, 2026) | Key requirements |
|---|---|---|---|

| Audit Intern (CRI offices) | Substantive audit procedures, working papers, control deficiencies | Summer 2027: Tifton GA. Spring 2028 and summer 2028: Atlanta (5 seats each) | Enrolled accounting major; Microsoft Office |
| Tax Intern | Work papers, trial balances, depreciation schedules, data for tax returns | Spring 2027: Austin, Greensboro, Melbourne FL, Tifton GA, Indianapolis. Summer 2027: Indianapolis. Spring 2028: Atlanta (9 seats) | Enrolled accounting major; Microsoft Office |
| Single Audit Intern (CapinCrouse) | Audit teams serving nonprofits, with an early focus on CPA certification | Summer 2027: Indianapolis, Irving TX | Two or more years of university completed by the start; accounting major |
| Capital Markets Audit Intern | Public-company audits: testing balances and controls, workpapers, client walkthroughs | Spring 2027 and summer 2027: Melville NY, Palm Beach Gardens FL | Accounting bachelor's or master's; intends to pursue the CPA; strong academic performance |
| Transaction Advisory Services Intern | Buy-side and sell-side due diligence: quality of earnings databooks, proof of cash | Spring 2027 and summer 2027: Atlanta | Enrolled accounting major; Excel and PowerPoint |
CapinCrouse accounts for 22 of the 36 postings, CRI's campus recruiting for 10 and the Capital Markets Group for 4. We found no current sophomore leadership program or job-shadow program on CRI's careers page.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
We read all 36 postings. The rules depend on which practice posted the role:
• CRI audit, tax and transaction advisory: "Must be enrolled as a student in an accredited college or university with a major in accounting."
• CapinCrouse audit and single audit (20 postings): "Two or more years of university education completed by the time of starting the internship required," plus actively pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting. CapinCrouse's two tax postings use the CRI wording instead.
• Capital Markets: pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, an "intention to pursue CPA licensure," "strong academic performance," and intermediate accounting coursework preferred.
• GPA: no posting names a GPA figure.
• Work authorization: all 36 postings say applicants "must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future," and that no sponsorship is available for "H-1B, L-1, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, F-1, J-1, OPT, CPT or any other employment-based visa."
• Software: familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint) on every posting outside Capital Markets.

Is There a GPA Cutoff at CRI?
Not a published one. None of the 36 postings states a GPA, and only the Capital Markets roles mention grades at all, asking for "strong academic performance." The harder gates are elsewhere. CapinCrouse audit roles need two finished years of university by your start date, which rules out most first-year students. And the sponsorship line is explicit: international students on F-1, including those who'd use OPT or CPT, should read it as a no.

What Skills Does Carr, Riggs & Ingram Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
CRI's postings come from three templates (CRI campus, CapinCrouse and Capital Markets), so the same skills repeat. All 36 want an accounting major. Thirty-four name working papers or workpapers, the documentation of what you tested and why. Thirty-two ask for Microsoft Office, written and oral communication, and discretion with confidential information. On the audit side, 25 postings describe audit procedures and internal control work. The seven tax postings name trial balances, depreciation schedules and gathering data for returns, and the two transaction advisory postings name quality of earnings databooks and proof of cash analyses. No posting names a specific audit or tax software product.

How Is Demand for Accounting Interns Moving Right Now?
Accounting intern postings · Sep vs Aug 2026
vs 362 in August
For CRI applicants: CRI's board listed 36 internship postings with 73 stated openings on October 12, 2026, and none states a deadline. Twenty-one of them list a single seat, and the spring 2027 cohort starts first, so apply to your office's posting when you find it.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each CRI skill maps to a remote Externship that leaves you with a finished project to discuss in an interview.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Financial statement analysis | Capital Markets: "Performing analytical procedures and financial statement analyses" | Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling |
| Due diligence research | Transaction advisory: "financial and operational analyses for buy-side and sell-side financial due diligence engagements" | HP Tech Ventures Deal Sourcing & Startup Analysis |
| Excel and data work | "Familiarity with Microsoft Office software (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint)" on 32 of 36 postings | Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy |
| Documenting evidence | Audit: "Prepare working papers which adequately document the tests performed and procedures followed" | Pfizer AI-Powered Document Insights & Data Extraction |
The Excel match is the broadest, since nearly every posting names it. The due diligence match is the narrowest: only the two Atlanta transaction advisory postings ask for it.
What Is the Carr, Riggs & Ingram Application and Interview Process Like?
CRI doesn't publish its interview format. The steps below come from its board and from a few candidate reports on Reddit:
1. Find the posting for your office and season. Titles follow one pattern: track, season and year, then city. Note the practice (CRI, CapinCrouse or Capital Markets) and the "# of Openings" line.
2. Apply on the board. Each posting has its own "Apply for this Position" form on CRI's applicant system. Apply separately for each season you'd accept.
3. Interview. The format and number of rounds aren't published. One 2024 offer-holder described talking with an audit partner, and a 2026 candidate was invited to interview for a summer 2027 audit role in late April 2026.
4. Offer. Candidates reported spring-cohort offers in early September 2024, about three months before the start.
5. Background check. One student who signed a spring offer said a background check followed (community-reported).
Since the format isn't published, prepare for standard behavioral questions with our behavioral interview guide.
What Students on Reddit Say
Reddit has a handful of first-hand posts from CRI interview and offer holders, mostly about timing.
A student weighing two audit internship offers said CRI's was hybrid with a relaxed environment at $22 an hour, and that an audit partner said the firm wants to develop interns into full-time staff. A reply said return offers are likely if you do good work and that culture depends on the office.
An online accounting student said CRI had invited them to interview for a summer 2027 audit internship and was surprised the firm reached out. Replies were lukewarm on prestige, and a former client called the auditors nice people.
A student who had signed a CRI offer for a spring 2025 internship said the background check was under way in early September, with about three months left before the start date.
How Do You Stand Out for a Carr, Riggs & Ingram Internship?
Three moves. First, know which practice you're applying to. CapinCrouse works only with nonprofits and says it serves more than 1,600 of them. CRI's own offices do commercial audit and tax, the Capital Markets Group audits public companies, and transaction advisory does due diligence. Say why that client base interests you. Second, read the seat count and move. Most postings list one opening, so apply when you find the role and don't hold out for a later season. Atlanta is the exception, with nine tax seats for spring 2028. Third, lead with accounting coursework and Excel. No GPA is published, so your intermediate accounting grades and a spreadsheet project do the talking. CRI publishes no applicant count, class size or conversion rate; the 73 openings are a one-day snapshot.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a 2027 Carr, Riggs & Ingram internship?
Yes. On October 12, 2026, CRI's job board listed 36 internship postings with 73 stated openings: 18 seats for spring 2027, 26 for summer 2027 and 5 for fall 2027, plus 24 seats for 2028 in Atlanta and Indianapolis. Postings close when their seats fill, so the count will drop over the fall.
When do CRI internship applications open for summer 2027 and 2028?
Applications for summer 2027 are already open in 12 cities, and CRI's board doesn't show when they were posted. Atlanta and Indianapolis have summer 2028 postings up now. Other offices may add summer 2028 roles around spring 2027, a low-confidence estimate based on one report of an April 2026 interview for summer 2027.
Does Carr, Riggs & Ingram have an application deadline?
No posting states one. Hiring is rolling: each posting lists a number of openings, from 1 to 9, and comes down when those seats are filled. On October 12, 2026, 21 of the 36 internship postings listed a single opening, so a role can close after one accepted offer.
How much do CRI interns get paid?
CRI publishes pay only where state law requires a range. Its CapinCrouse audit postings in New York City, Colorado and California list $25 to $30 an hour, and its Capital Markets audit postings in Melville, New York list $28 to $30. Postings in Georgia, Indiana, Texas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina and Missouri give no figure.
Does CRI sponsor international students for internships?
No. All 36 postings say applicants must be authorized to work in the US without employment-based sponsorship now or in the future. The same sentence lists the statuses it won't support, including H-1B, F-1, J-1, OPT and CPT. International students who'd rely on OPT or CPT should treat that as a no.
What is CapinCrouse, and is it the same as a CRI internship?
CapinCrouse is a nonprofit-focused accounting practice that's now part of CRI, and it posted 22 of the 36 internships on CRI's board. The work is audit and tax for nonprofits. Its audit and single audit postings require two or more years of university completed by your start date, a rule CRI's own postings don't carry.
What GPA do you need for a CRI internship?
None is published. We read all 36 postings and found no GPA figure. The Capital Markets audit roles ask for "strong academic performance" and an intention to pursue the CPA. Every posting requires an accounting major, and CapinCrouse audit roles also require two completed years of university.
Do CRI interns get full-time offers?
CRI doesn't publish a conversion rate. On Reddit, one 2024 offer-holder said an audit partner told them the firm wants to develop interns into full-time employees, and a commenter said good work usually brings a return offer. Those are community reports, not firm figures, so ask your recruiter how offers work in your office.
CRI's spring 2027 roles start soonest and most postings have one seat, so apply to your office's posting when you find it. To bring a finished analysis or Excel project to the interview, add a remote Externship alongside your application.
