UCLA Health runs a paid 10 to 12 week summer internship for bachelor's students, and nothing is open for it today. Its internships page shows the 2026 window ran 13 April to 3 May 2026, with up to ten positions and an early June start, and UCLA Health's job board listed no internship requisition on 26 October 2026. The window is short and late: applications closed about a month before the program began, so in plain words you apply in spring 2027 to intern in summer 2027. The master's Administrative Internship works the same way, with a 2026 window of 2 to 23 March. This guide covers UCLA Health, the Los Angeles health system, not UCLA campus student jobs.

Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most commonly over 8 weeks at 5 to 10 hours a week, so one can fill the months before UCLA Health's spring windows. The Healthcare Operations & Consulting Externship gives you hospital process work to point to, and the ARCeH Data Analytics Externship builds health data skills. Explore all Externships.

What Is a UCLA Health Internship?

A UCLA Health internship is a paid, 10 to 12 week summer placement in a department of UCLA Health, part of the University of California. The undergraduate program is open to bachelor's students who show "a passion for a career in healthcare" (volunteer experience is preferred). It's an administrative and business program, not a clinical rotation: each intern works for a department, such as operations, marketing and patient navigation, nursing administration or patient access, with a preceptor. This guide covers those non-clinical tracks. School-arranged clinical rotations are separate and aren't covered.

When Do UCLA Health Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

UCLA Health posts short windows in spring, not fall. For summer 2026 the master's Administrative Internship ran 2 to 23 March, about 2.2 to 3 months before a late May or early June start. The undergraduate internship ran 13 April to 3 May, about one to 1.7 months before an early June start. Those are the only dates UCLA Health's page publishes for the current cycle, so the 2027 windows below are expected, not announced. The graduate Administrative Fellowship is on a different clock: its window ran 27 July to 6 September 2026 for a July 2027 start.

Now · October 2026YOU ARE HERE

March 2027EXPECTED

Expected: the master's Administrative Internship window for summer 2027, based on 2 to 23 March in 2026. Graduate-only. You can apply to up to five departments.

April to early May 2027EXPECTEDSHORT WINDOW — APPLY WEEK 1

Expected: the Undergraduate Student Summer Internship window for summer 2027, based on 13 April to 3 May in 2026, a window of about three weeks. Apply to up to five departments and rank them by fit.

Early June 2027EXPECTED

Expected: the 10 to 12 week program starts, with a department preceptor. The 2026 page lists up to ten undergraduate positions and up to seven administrative ones.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Both 2026 windows were short and ended on a fixed date, 21 days for the Administrative Internship and 20 days for the undergraduate one. UCLA Health doesn't say it accepts late packets, and applicants choose up to five departments, so a rushed file is the main way to lose a seat. This is one published cycle, so check the internships page in March rather than relying on our dates, and apply in the first week of the window.

Which UCLA Health Internship Programs Should You Target?

UCLA Health lists these programs. The first two are summer internships; the rest are graduate-only.

If you're an undergraduate, the first row is your program. UCLA Health also posts clinical roles such as a per diem weekend pharmacy intern, which requires a PharmD program and a California license and isn't covered here. See the internships page for the current list.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

These are the 2026 rules, which we expect UCLA Health to roll forward with new dates.

• Undergraduate internship: enrolled in a bachelor's program in a field such as business administration, finance, accounting, economics, health administration, public health, health sciences, biology, nursing (BSN), health informatics or information systems, with an anticipated graduation of September 2026 or later.

• Administrative Internship: master's students only (MBA, MHA, MPH, MSN, MHI or a related program) graduating in or after September 2026.

• Skills: strong analytical, organizational and communication skills, writing and editing, Microsoft Office and Tableau, and good prioritization.

• Packet: one PDF with a one-page cover letter and a resume, uploaded in the "Resume" field.

• Work authorization: not stated on the internships page.

Can an Undergraduate Apply to the Administrative Internship?

No. The Administrative Internship is for master's students, and the Administrative Fellowship is for people who have completed a master's degree. The undergraduate page borrows some of the same wording, including some FAQ headings that still say "Administrative Intern", so read the tab that matches your degree. The 2026 cutoff for graduation (September 2026 or later) will shift for 2027, so don't assume a rising senior is excluded.

What Skills Does UCLA Health Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

UCLA Health's page names few skills, and they're consistent: analytical and organizational ability, written business correspondence, Microsoft Office and Tableau, and prioritizing under deadlines. The department descriptions show what the work looks like, such as scheduling across more than 200 outpatient clinics in Patient Access, data and AI governance in health informatics, and Lean improvement projects in Performance Excellence. There are no live postings to chart, so we don't show skill percentages.

Note: UCLA Health had no internship postings on 26 October 2026, so there is nothing to count. The skills above come from the internships page, which was last updated 3 September 2026.

None of these Externships is affiliated with UCLA Health. Most run about 8 weeks, so one started in November can finish before the March window.

What Is the UCLA Health Application and Interview Process Like?

UCLA Health describes the process in broad strokes, so these steps follow its 2026 instructions.

1. Watch the internships page. The windows are published there and the application portal is linked when they open.

2. Submit one PDF. A one-page cover letter on why you want UCLA Health and your top three goals, plus a resume, uploaded in the "Resume" field.

3. Choose up to five departments. You apply directly to the departments you want, and the interviews follow.

4. Get paired. UCLA Health says it finds pairings that maximize the applicant's and the department's preferences.

5. Start in early June. Interns have a department preceptor, and administrative interns present their project to senior leadership at the end.

What Students on Reddit Say

Reddit has only questions about the UCLA Health summer internship, from 2022 and January 2026, and none has a first-hand answer, so we're not quoting anyone.

How Do You Stand Out for a UCLA Health Internship?

First, treat the cover letter as the application: UCLA Health asks what you want from the summer and your top three goals, so name specific departments and projects. Second, show healthcare exposure. The page says volunteer experience is preferred, so hospital or clinic volunteering counts. Third, bring evidence of the skills it lists, such as a Tableau dashboard or a short operations analysis. UCLA Health publishes no applicant counts or conversion rate.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 UCLA Health internship?

No. The 2026 windows have closed: 2 to 23 March for the master's Administrative Internship and 13 April to 3 May for the undergraduate internship. Nothing is open for summer 2027 yet. Expect similar spring windows in 2027 and watch UCLA Health's internships page for the real dates.

When do UCLA Health summer internship applications open?

UCLA Health hasn't announced 2027 dates. In 2026 the master's Administrative Internship opened 2 March and the undergraduate internship 13 April. We expect similar windows in March and April 2027, based on that single published cycle, so check the internships page in March.

Is the UCLA Health internship paid?

Yes, UCLA Health describes both summer internships as 10 to 12 week paid programs. It doesn't publish an hourly rate on its internships page, so we can't give a figure. Don't rely on rates from job-board sites, which aren't UCLA Health's own numbers.

Who can apply for the UCLA Health undergraduate internship?

Bachelor's students in business, finance, accounting, economics, health administration, public health, health sciences, biology, nursing (BSN), health informatics, information systems or a related field. The 2026 rule required an anticipated graduation of September 2026 or later. Volunteer experience is preferred, and work authorization isn't stated.

How many interns does UCLA Health hire?

In 2026 it planned up to ten undergraduate interns and up to seven administrative interns. Its page lists 11 administrative interns for 2025 and seven for 2024. It publishes no applicant counts or acceptance rate, so we can't say how competitive the undergraduate program is.

How do I apply to the UCLA Health internship?

Submit one PDF containing a one-page cover letter and your resume through the application portal linked on the internships page, in the "Resume" field. You can apply to up to five departments, and UCLA Health pairs applicants with departments after interviews. The master's program also asks for GPAs.

Are the UCLA Health fellowships open to undergraduates?

No. The Administrative Fellowship and the Health System Finance fellowship are 12-month post-graduate programs for people with a master's degree, and the Biodesign Innovation Fellowship needs an advanced degree. The 2026 fellowship deadline was 6 September. Undergraduates should look at the Undergraduate Student Summer Internship.

Where do UCLA Health interns work?

In the Los Angeles area, in departments across Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, UCLA West Valley Medical Center and outpatient clinics. UCLA Health's page doesn't say whether the work is on site or hybrid, so ask when you interview.

UCLA Health's summer internships are closed until the spring 2027 windows, so use the months ahead to prepare. A remote Externship can give you a finished healthcare project to describe in your cover letter.
