Last updated: October 2026

Tokio Marine HCC's summer 2027 internships are open now. On October 5, 2026 its Workday careers board listed nine US intern roles, all posted between September 2 and 16, 2026, and none of them states a deadline. In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027.

Six roles sit at the Houston headquarters (actuarial, accounting, tax, internal audit, financial systems and data engineering), two are in New York (healthcare professional liability underwriting and an M&A transaction-risk internship) and one is an underwriting internship in Plano on the medical stop-loss team. Eight of the nine ask for a 3.0 GPA and 60 completed credit hours, which the early careers page sets for every US intern. Only the New York roles publish pay: $23 to $29 an hour for underwriting and $24 to $40 an hour for M&A.

What Is a Tokio Marine HCC Internship?

A Tokio Marine HCC internship is a paid summer placement at a Houston-headquartered specialty insurance group that has been part of Japan's Tokio Marine Group since 2015. Interns get "real tasks with real responsibility", cross-training across departments in one division and a mentor, according to the early careers page. Some Houston roles also join an Internship Enrichment Program. Tokio Marine HCC reports 4,400 employees, more than 100 specialty insurance products and $8.1 billion of 2025 gross written premium on its about page. It's a separate employer from Philadelphia Insurance Companies and Tokio Marine America, two other Tokio Marine companies with their own programs.

When Do Tokio Marine HCC Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Tokio Marine HCC posted its summer 2027 wave between September 2 and 16, 2026: eight roles on September 2 to 8 and the data engineering role on September 16. That's about eight months before the internships start in mid to late May 2027. Its early careers page also lists fall career fairs at risk management and business schools. Several unit underwriting internships that ran for summer 2026 (Specialty in Wakefield, Massachusetts, Surety in Sacramento and an A&H actuarial role in Kennesaw, Georgia) aren't posted for summer 2027, and we couldn't date last cycle's postings, so whether they return later is uncertain. Applications for summer 2028 are expected around September 2027.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Tokio Marine HCC fills on a rolling basis. None of the nine summer 2027 postings names a deadline, so each one can come down as soon as the team has its intern, and every posting is a separate role in one office. They've been up since early September, and the early careers page shows recruiters at campus career fairs in September and October, which is when many applications arrive. Apply in October. If you want the Houston actuarial role, note that it prefers local students who can keep working part-time in the fall and spring.

Filter the Workday board by Job Type "Intern": a keyword search for "intern" also returns internal and international jobs. Tokio Marine HCC warns about recruitment fraud and asks applicants to verify any posting on its own board.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Tokio Marine HCC sets one US bar on its early careers page and repeats it in most postings:

• GPA: an overall 3.0 or higher, on the early careers page and in eight of the nine postings.

• Credits: 60 completed college credit hours, in the same places.

• Availability: at least 12 consecutive weeks full time (40 hours a week) between May and August.

• Class year: the New York roles strongly prefer spring 2028 graduates (rising seniors); the Plano role asks for juniors in risk management or insurance.

• Work authorization: none of the postings addresses visa sponsorship, so ask the recruiter before you apply if you'll need it.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff at Tokio Marine HCC?

Treat it as one. The early careers page lists "Overall GPA of 3.0 or greater" and "Must have earned 60 credit hours" as requirements for the US program, and eight postings write both into their requirements. The one exception is the New York M&A internship, which doesn't name a GPA but still falls under the program-wide rule. Count your completed hours before you apply.

Build These Skills Before You Apply

Each skill below comes from Tokio Marine HCC's own postings and maps to a remote Externship that leaves you with a finished project to discuss.

The M&A match is the closest for the New York role: Mangusta's project has you screen companies and size them up for an investor, which is close to how a transaction-risk intern reads a deal before the team quotes it.

What Is the Tokio Marine HCC Application and Interview Process Like?

Tokio Marine HCC doesn't publish its intern interview steps. Here's what its board and careers page show:

1. Apply on Workday. Filter by Job Type "Intern" and apply to each role separately; verify any posting there, since Tokio Marine HCC warns about recruitment fraud.

2. Clear the bar. Check the 3.0 GPA, 60 credit hours and 12-week availability before applying.

3. Campus route. Recruiters attend fall career fairs at risk management and business schools listed on the early careers page.

4. Interviews. Tokio Marine HCC doesn't describe its intern rounds, and we found no first-hand intern account. Prepare behavioral examples and, for New York, basic deal and underwriting vocabulary.

5. Offer and summer. Plan for four office days a week in Houston or New York, or onsite in Plano.

Our STAR method guide shows how to build behavioral answers with measurable results.

How Do You Stand Out for a Tokio Marine HCC Internship?

Three moves. First, apply in October. The roles are rolling with no deadline and have been up since early September. Second, match the unit. For Houston finance roles, show Excel and accounting coursework; for the actuary role, mention exams and say if you can work part-time during the school year, which the posting prefers; for New York, show you can read a financial statement and a deal summary. Third, show discretion. Five postings ask for communication "with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy", so an example of handling sensitive information carefully fits the job. Tokio Marine HCC publishes no applicant count or conversion rate.

Only the New York postings publish pay: $24 to $40 an hour for the TRI M&A internship and $23 to $29 an hour for the HPL underwriting internship. The six Houston roles and the Plano role don't list a range. The M&A posting calls its program a fully paid internship.

What are the Tokio Marine HCC internship requirements?

For US internships, Tokio Marine HCC asks for an overall 3.0 GPA, 60 completed credit hours and availability for at least 12 consecutive full-time weeks between May and August. It's open to finance, accounting, business, economics and pre-law students, ideally rising seniors.

Is Tokio Marine HCC the same as Philadelphia Insurance Companies?

No. Both belong to Japan's Tokio Marine Group, but Philadelphia Insurance Companies hires through its own careers board and runs its own summer program. Tokio Marine America and Tokio Marine North America Services are separate employers too. This guide covers Tokio Marine HCC's Workday board only.

Does Tokio Marine HCC hire interns full time?

Its early careers page says several interns got full-time positions because of their performance, and the Plano posting says the internship could lead to a placement after graduation. No conversion rate is published. Graduates can also apply to the 3-year Accelerate Program in underwriting or claims.

When do Tokio Marine HCC summer 2027 applications close?

None of the nine postings states a deadline, so each closes when the role is filled. They've been live since early September 2026. Apply in October rather than waiting, and check back later in the cycle for unit underwriting roles that ran for summer 2026 and haven't posted yet.

Tokio Marine HCC's summer 2027 roles are open now and close as they fill. Apply this month, and build a project to talk about in parallel: a remote Externship gives you finished analysis work for your interviews.
