Sompo International hasn't posted its summer 2027 internships yet. On October 5, 2026 its Workday careers board listed 137 open jobs and no internships. Last cycle the whole batch of summer 2026 intern roles was live by November 6 to 7, 2025, so expect the summer 2027 roles around October to November 2026. In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027.
The program is a 10-week paid internship in the US. Last cycle Sompo posted at least ten separate intern roles across underwriting, claims, reinsurance, pricing, reserving, accounting, audit and crop insurance, in New York City, Garden City, Purchase, Morristown, Alpharetta and the AgriSompo offices in Fargo and Lenexa. Postings listed $20 to $22 an hour. All of them post on the same Workday board, so it's the one page to watch.
What Is a Sompo International Internship?
A Sompo International internship is a 10-week paid summer program at the US operations of Sompo International Holdings, the commercial insurance and reinsurance arm of Japan's Sompo Holdings. Interns join one team, such as casualty underwriting, claims, reinsurance or crop insurance, and get classroom and on-the-job training, a speaker series, broker presentations and one-on-one mentoring, according to Sompo's intern flyer. The program ends with a team project presented to senior leaders. Sompo International was formed in 2017 when Sompo Holdings bought Endurance Specialty Holdings, which is why its Workday board still carries the Endurance name, and it reports more than 10,000 employees in 28+ countries on its about page.
When Do Sompo International Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Sompo posts its summer internships as one batch. The summer 2026 roles, together with the crop internship and two Trainee Program roles, were all live by November 6 to 7, 2025, about seven months before a June start. The summer 2025 roles were set up in Workday by about mid-September 2024, so the window can open as early as September. Applications for summer 2027 are expected around October to November 2026 (medium confidence on the month). An IT internship posted separately last cycle and stayed listed into spring 2026, so it may follow its own calendar. Applications for summer 2028 are expected around October to November 2027.

Each internship is its own posting tied to one team in one office: casualty underwriting in New York City, treaty accident and health underwriting in Garden City, pricing in Morristown, crop insurance in Fargo or Lenexa. With no published deadline, nothing guarantees a posting stays up once that team has found its intern. The closing dates you'll see on job aggregators are their own listing expiries, not Sompo's. What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Sompo's flyer and its summer 2026 postings set these requirements:
• Enrollment: enrolled in an undergraduate program for the full internship; several postings also accept graduate students.
• GPA: 3.0 or higher, per the intern flyer and five of the ten summer 2026 postings we read.
• Class year: varies by role. Pricing, reserving and internal audit asked for sophomores or juniors; underwriting and claims for rising juniors or seniors; crop for rising seniors.
• Work authorization: every posting asks for authorization to work in the US without restriction and a minimum age of 18. Ask the recruiter before applying if you'll need visa sponsorship.
• Location: the internship is in office, and postings ask you to be local or able to arrange your own housing and transportation.
Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff at Sompo?
Treat it as one. Sompo's intern flyer lists a 3.0 GPA among the requirements, and the underwriting, claims, pricing, reserving and audit postings wrote "minimum GPA of 3.0" into the qualifications. The reinsurance and crop postings didn't name a GPA, but the program-wide flyer still applies. The work authorization line appears on every posting, so check it before the GPA.

What Is the Sompo International Application and Interview Process Like?
Sompo doesn't publish its intern interview steps. Here's what its board and postings show:
1. Watch one board. Sompo North America, the reinsurance teams and AgriSompo all post on the same Workday site; filter by business segment for crop roles.
2. Pick the team and the city. Each internship is a separate posting tied to one office, so apply to the specific ones you want.
3. Check the gates first. GPA, class year and "authorized to work in the United States without restriction" are written into the postings.

Insurance professionals discussed a December 2025 report that Sompo North America was moving staff to five days a week in the office. One commenter said the email covered claims, underwriting and other client-facing roles.
