Last updated: October 2026

Swiss Re's summer 2027 internship is open now. Its US program runs on a single posting, "Summer Internship 2027 - Early Talent," which went live on October 1, 2026 and was still up on October 5. It's a 12-week program for undergraduate and master's students placed in New York, Armonk, Kansas City or Chicago, on one of five teams. In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027.

The posting pays $23 to $30 an hour, asks for a 3.0 GPA and says interns aren't eligible for US work authorization sponsorship. It names no deadline.

What Is a Swiss Re Internship?

A Swiss Re internship is a paid, 12-week summer program at Swiss Re's US operations for undergraduate and master's students, with on-the-job projects, industry training and networking events. Swiss Re calls itself "one of the world's leading providers of reinsurance, insurance and other forms of insurance-based risk transfer," with more than 15,000 employees. Its Americas careers page names Armonk, New York as its US headquarters, with offices in over 25 locations across North and Latin America. Interns join one of five teams, from reinsurance business development to insurance-linked securities and data engineering.

When Do Swiss Re Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Swiss Re's US internships page says applications "open in September for internships starting the following summer." This year's posting went up on October 1, 2026, about eight months before a summer 2027 start. Last cycle moved quickly: a sophomore wrote on Reddit in late September 2025 that they'd applied to Swiss Re actuarial and risk internships for summer 2026 that month and already been turned down. Applications for summer 2028 are expected in September 2027, following Swiss Re's stated timeline.

Now · early October 2026YOU ARE HERE

Applications for summer 2027 are open right now. The single US posting, live since October 1, covers all four cities and all five teams, so one application puts you in front of every placement.

Apply first. Alongside it, the Mangusta Capital Deal Sourcing Externship or the Wayfair n8n AI Agent Engineering Externship gives you a finished investment or automation project to discuss in interviews.

Seniors graduating in 2027 should look at Swiss Re's Graduate Programme instead: Early Talent 2027 analyst roles in Kansas City, Alpharetta and Miami start in fall 2027, and the underwriting roles list a $70,000 base.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Swiss Re reviews on a rolling basis. The posting carries no closing date, and one requisition fills seats on five teams, so the earliest applicants compete for the most open placements. The prior cycle shows how fast screening moves: a summer 2026 applicant who applied in September 2025 had a rejection by the end of that month. Swiss Re also says AI tools may help decide which candidates get screened first, which makes a clean, keyword-matched application more important. With no second US posting to fall back on, apply in October.

Which Swiss Re Internship Programs Should You Target?

Swiss Re's US internship is one posting with five possible team placements. You don't apply to a team directly, so say in your application which one fits you.

The full posting describes each team; Swiss Re's non-US internships are listed separately on its internships page.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

The posting lists a short set of requirements:

• Enrollment: currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in finance, economics, business, mathematics, statistics, data analytics, computer science, engineering or a related field.

• GPA: "Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0."

• Skills: strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, and the ability to work independently and with others.

• Work authorization: "Intern positions at Swiss Re are not eligible for US work authorization sponsorship."

• Class year: not stated; pay varies with your projected graduation year and highest degree held.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff at Swiss Re?

Treat it as one. The posting calls it a minimum, and Swiss Re's 2027 graduate analyst postings say a cumulative 3.0 "is expected" too, so the bar is consistent across early-career hiring. The sponsorship line is just as firm, and it's the gate international students hit first: the prior-cycle Reddit applicant who was turned down quickly was an international sophomore.

Based on 543 investment banking summer analysts at top investment banks from the classes of 2025 and 2026 (public LinkedIn profiles, aggregated). Six questions, under a minute.

Question 1 of 6

Which summer are you applying for?

Recruiting timelines differ by class year, so we compare you with the right group.

Question 2 of 6

Which group is your school closest to?

Firms recruit on campus in tiers. We match you against admits from schools like yours.

Question 3 of 6

Math and statistics count too. Major is not a hard filter, but it shifts how much your coursework has to prove.

Question 4 of 6

How many internships, externships or research positions have you held so far?

Count anything with a real employer, mentor or principal investigator attached. Retail and food service do not count.

Question 5 of 6

Banking, PE or VC, corporate finance, wealth management, equity research, accounting or consulting. Any size of firm counts.

Question 6 of 6

Are you in a finance club, investment fund or case competition team?

Campus clubs are how most admits get their first deal and modelling reps.

What Skills Does Swiss Re Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

The intern posting asks for analysis, problem solving, Excel and PowerPoint, and independent and team work. Swiss Re's three 2027 graduate analyst postings, the full-time roles interns can move into, add communication, curiosity about AI and emerging technology, and client-facing work. Team placement shapes the rest: Business Development wants market research and competitive analysis, Alternative Capital Partners wants a grasp of insurance-linked securities, and the data teams want data quality, automation and dashboards.

What Is the Swiss Re Application and Interview Process Like?

Swiss Re doesn't publish its US intern interview steps. Here's what the posting and its careers pages confirm:

1. Apply to the single posting. "Summer Internship 2027 - Early Talent" on careers.swissre.com covers all four cities and five teams.

2. Screening. Swiss Re says it may use AI-powered tools to support application review, and that people make all hiring decisions.

3. Interviews. The format isn't published. A 2017 Armonk actuarial intern candidate called Swiss Re's interview process their favorite of several; that's dated, so prepare for both behavioral and technical questions.

4. Offer and placement. Offers place you on one of the five teams in one of the four cities.

Be ready to explain what reinsurance is and why insurers buy it; Business Development's own description calls reinsurance "a corporate finance tool." Our behavioral interview guide covers the story-based questions.

What Students on Reddit Say

Reddit threads about Swiss Re internships are few, so these are dated first-hand reports, mostly from actuarial students.

A sophomore with three actuarial exams passed applied to Swiss Re actuarial and risk internships for summer 2026 in September 2025 and was rejected within the month. Replies said two applications is too small a sample to read much into.

A former Armonk intern from over a decade ago described a Metro North and shuttle commute, a big low-cost cafeteria, structured departments and a firm 5 pm finish, but no full-time offer in a year of global layoffs.

A student comparing actuarial intern offers said Swiss Re's Armonk role paid $22 an hour without housing and had their favorite interview process. Commenters said to choose on the long-term career, not the summer pay.

How Do You Stand Out for a Swiss Re Internship?

Three moves. First, apply now. There's one US posting, it opened October 1, and last cycle's screening moved within weeks. Second, name your team. The posting lists five placements, so tell Swiss Re which one you want and why: deal-side Business Development, insurance-linked securities at Alternative Capital Partners, consulting analytics, data management or analytics engineering. Third, show you understand reinsurance. Be able to explain treaty versus facultative cover and why an insurer buys reinsurance, and bring one data or Excel project with a measurable result. Swiss Re publishes no applicant count or conversion rate.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Swiss Re internship?

No. Summer 2026 has already run. The open door is summer 2027: Swiss Re's single US posting, Summer Internship 2027 - Early Talent, went live on October 1, 2026 and was still open on October 5. It has no stated deadline, but review is rolling, so apply now.

When do Swiss Re internship applications open?

Swiss Re's internships page says US applications open in September for internships starting the following summer. This cycle's posting went up on October 1, 2026. Expect summer 2028 applications around September 2027, and check the careers site from late August so you're early.

How much do Swiss Re interns make?

The summer 2027 posting pays $23 to $30 an hour, depending on location, qualifications, projected graduation year and highest degree held. Over 12 full-time weeks that's roughly $11,000 to $14,400 before tax. A 2017 Reddit offer of $22 an hour in Armonk is too old to use.

Where are Swiss Re internships located?

The US internship places interns in New York City; Armonk, New York, Swiss Re's US headquarters; Kansas City, Missouri; or Chicago, Illinois. All four sit on one posting. Swiss Re's internships in Zurich, Bratislava and Sao Paulo are separate programs with their own postings.

Does Swiss Re sponsor visas for interns?

No. The posting says intern positions at Swiss Re aren't eligible for US work authorization sponsorship, and its 2027 graduate postings say the same for graduate roles. International students should check this before applying, since it applies to every US early-career posting we checked.

What teams can Swiss Re interns join?

Five: Business Development for P&C reinsurance, Alternative Capital Partners in asset management, Risk Consulting & Analytics, Client Data Management, and Portfolio Analytics Engineering. They range from client strategy and insurance-linked securities to data quality and dashboards. Say which one fits you when you apply.

What GPA do you need for a Swiss Re internship?

A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, stated in the posting. Swiss Re's 2027 graduate analyst postings set the same expectation, so treat 3.0 as a firm bar across its early-career hiring. The posting also asks for strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.

What if I graduate in 2027?

Look at Swiss Re's Graduate Programme instead of the internship. Its Early Talent 2027 analyst roles in Kansas City, Alpharetta and Miami were open on October 5, 2026 and start in fall 2027. The underwriting analyst roles list a $70,000 base salary and the same 3.0 GPA.

Swiss Re has one US internship posting and it's open now. Apply this month, and build a project to talk about in parallel: a remote Externship gives you finished strategy, investment or data work to bring to the interview.
