The company behind DEWALT, CRAFTSMAN, STANLEY, BLACK+DECKER and Cub Cadet describes itself in its own job requisitions in five words: "We're the World's largest tool company." Stanley Black & Decker reported $15.1 billion in net sales for fiscal 2025 and traces its history to 1843. For an engineering student the pitch is unusually literal. The Summer 2027 mechanical requisition does not describe an abstract meaningful project; it says you will "assist in the design and development of hand tools and power tools, utilizing CAD software and engineering principles to create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings," support "prototyping and testing of new product designs, analyzing performance, durability, and safety," and work on design for manufacturing. The embedded requisition asks for someone "interested in low-level/bare-metal embedded C programming" and puts them on software for electrically powered equipment. And the requisition prints the pay: $22.00 to $27.00 per hour. Three of these went live on September 1, 2026, all in Towson, Maryland, and none of them has a closing date.

Rolling?Yes. All three requisitions returned an empty end date and SBD publishes no deadline on the requisitions, the internships page or the early-career hub. Any “expires in X days” on an aggregator is that board’s auto-expiry
Eligibility“Be a rising junior or senior.” Mechanical takes Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical, Industrial or Aerospace Engineering and requires strong CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, AutoCAD). Embedded takes Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. No numeric GPA minimum is published, only “maintains strong academic credentials”
Duration10 to 12 weeks, described by SBD as “an immersive experience with formal learning, networking opportunities and volunteer events.” The requisitions specify a flexible schedule with a maximum of 40 hours
Compensation$22.00–$27.00 per hour, printed in the requisition body: “The base pay range for this position in Maryland is $22.00- $27.00 per hour.” That is a Maryland figure specifically, and SBD notes pay “is based on market location,” so a requisition posted in another state may carry a different band. Housing and relocation for interns: not addressed either way
Return offersNo published conversion rate. The requisitions promise “opportunity for career advancement upon graduation,” and SBD’s post-graduate Leadership Program requisition states it is geared toward recent graduates with internship experience, which makes the internship the documented feeder

What Is a Stanley Black & Decker Internship?

A Stanley Black & Decker internship is a 10 to 12 week summer program that the company describes on its own internships page in unusually direct terms: "When you're an intern here, you're not observing from the sidelines. You're a key member of a team, taking part in essential projects, leading your own work and tackling innovation challenges independently and collaboratively with other interns." The requisitions add the structure around that: regular events, weekly lunch and learn sessions, customized training from the business units, a cross-functional professional network, exposure to the business both in the US and abroad, and "a utility role interacting with key members of a Fortune 500 company." SBD lists the functions it hires interns into as finance and accounting, electrical and mechanical engineering, supply chain management, data analytics, communications and marketing, and advanced manufacturing, "to name just a few," and illustrates six tracks in detail: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Product Management, Supply Chain, Finance and Marketing. SBD rates 3.5 out of 5 across 3,537 Indeed reviews.

When Do Stanley Black & Decker Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Stanley Black & Decker is mid-way through opening its early-careers season rather than finished with it. The three Summer 2027 engineering intern requisitions went live on September 1, 2026, and the January 2027 Leadership Program Sales requisition followed on September 4. All of them returned an empty end date, so no deadline exists to work backwards from. That leaves two practical rules. Apply within days of a requisition appearing, and re-check the board weekly, because SBD names six intern functions on its internships page while only engineering is live. One gate is easy to get wrong. The requisitions say "be a rising junior or senior," full stop. Search snippets circulating elsewhere describe a graduation-year window of 2027 or 2028, but that phrasing does not appear in the requisition text, so treat class standing as the sourced requirement and ignore the graduation-year framing.

Now · September 2026YOU ARE HERE

Mechanical, Electrical and Embedded Engineering intern requisitions for Summer 2027 are all live in Towson, MD, days old, with no closing date on any of them. If you are a rising junior or senior in an accepted major, this week is the whole advantage.

The Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense Externship and the Corporate Strategy Externship are remote, real-company projects that pair technical output with a business recommendation, which is exactly the combination SBD's requisitions ask for.
September 1 and 4, 2026EXPECTEDROLLING — APPLY WEEK 1

The three intern requisitions posted on September 1 and the post-graduate Leadership Program Sales role on September 4. Rolling review with no deadline means roles come down when they fill, without notice.

September 2026 to February 2027

The remaining intern functions SBD names, finance and accounting, supply chain, data analytics, communications and marketing, advanced manufacturing and product management, are expected to post. The other six Leadership Program tracks are expected through the fall as well.

Rolling

SBD publishes its own three-stage process: an HR and often hiring-manager review, an initial conversation that is frequently virtual, then a follow-up interview where you meet the team. No timings are published.

June to August 2027

The internship runs 10 to 12 weeks, onsite in Towson, with a flexible schedule capped at 40 hours. One student on Reddit described a prior-cycle window of June 1 to August 7 while hunting for a sublet, which is one person's dates rather than an SBD statement.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Three requisitions, one location, no deadline, and postings that were five days old when this research was done. That is as early as a student ever gets to be, and it is the entire argument for applying now. Rolling processes with no close date do not run a batch review against a cutoff; they read applications as they arrive and pull the posting when the seat is filled, silently. There is a narrower reason too. All three roles are in Towson, Maryland, and Towson is not a large market. When an electrical engineering student asked Reddit where to intern in the Mid-Atlantic, two commenters independently pointed at SBD's Towson headquarters, which tells you the regional applicant pool knows exactly where these seats are. Add the fact that SBD names six intern functions and has posted only engineering, and the picture is a company that will be flooded with applications across the fall while the engineering seats are decided early. If you are a rising junior or senior in mechanical, electro-mechanical, industrial or aerospace engineering, or in CS, EE or computer engineering for the embedded role, the queue is the shortest it will be all cycle.

Which Stanley Black & Decker Internship Programs Should You Target?

SBD runs two early-career products. The internship is for current students; the Stanley Black & Decker Leadership Program is a multiyear rotational program for recent graduates, and SBD states in writing that it recruits people with internship experience into it.

SBD Leadership Program (SLP)A multiyear rotational program across seven tracks: Global Supply Chain, Engineering, Technology & Data Analytics, Finance, Sales, Product & Marketing and Human ResourcesMultiyearPost-graduate, not an internship. The live Sales track starts January 2027 across six markets and is “geared toward recent graduates with Sales internship experience.” Includes a paired mentor, a lean project presented to the global SLP community, and an alumni Social Impact Fellowship

SBD's own internships page is worth reading before you apply, because it spells out what each track actually does. Finance interns "revamp milestone ROI models" and run margin analytics across capital spending, pricing and promotions. Supply chain interns forecast supply and demand and coordinate shipments. Product management interns analyse consumer trends and run market research "with customers and non-customers." That level of specificity is rare, and quoting it back accurately in an interview is a cheap differentiator. Everything live is on SBD's Workday board.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

SBD publishes its intern criteria inside the requisitions, and they are shorter than most industrial peers. Here is what is actually stated:

Class year: "Be a rising junior or senior." That is the full requirement as written. No graduation-year window appears in the requisition text despite what some search snippets suggest.

Majors, mechanical: Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Aerospace Engineering. Majors, embedded: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.

The one hard technical gate: "Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for 3D modeling and detailed design" on the mechanical requisition. On the embedded side it is firmware testing, electrical design and interest in low-level, bare-metal embedded C.

Academics: "Maintains strong academic credentials" and, as a separate stated bullet, "successfully manages strong academics alongside extracurricular activities." Employers rarely make time management an explicit qualification, so make the balance visible.

Behavioral criteria, stated: interns are expected to adapt to change and demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, creativity and confidence, and must be team-oriented and collaborative.

Work model: onsite in Towson, MD, with a flexible schedule capped at a maximum of 40 hours.

Visa sponsorship: not addressed. Neither retrieved 2027 intern requisition contains any sponsorship, work-authorization or citizenship clause. That silence is neither a yes nor a no, so international students should ask the recruiter before investing in the process.

Overhead close-up of a tidy desk staged for a video interview, wireless earbuds resting on a closed notebook, a glass of

Does Stanley Black & Decker Have a Hard GPA Cutoff?

No published one. SBD asks only for "strong academic credentials" and does not state a number anywhere in the requisitions, the internships page, the early-career hub or the leadership-program page. Unlike several industrial peers there is no threshold to self-reject against, which shifts the weight onto what SBD does specify. On the mechanical side that is CAD, and the word to notice is "proficiency": a resume line reading SolidWorks is weaker than a portfolio of models, assemblies and dimensioned drawings you actually produced. On the embedded side it is bare-metal C and firmware testing, so an STM32 or AVR project with test code beats a coursework listing. And on both sides it is the extracurricular bullet, which is stated as a qualification rather than a nice-to-have. Interpret that generously: a team lead role in a Formula SAE or robotics team hits academics, extracurriculars, collaboration and hands-on engineering all at once, which is four of SBD's stated criteria in one line.

What Skills Does Stanley Black & Decker Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

SBD's requisitions are unusually explicit that the work is commercial rather than academic. The mechanical role names four activity areas, and the fourth is design for manufacturing: "optimizing product designs for efficient manufacturing processes, considering factors such as cost, materials, and production feasibility." The cross-functional exposure it lists is Product Design Group, Testing, Regulatory, Quality, Product Marketing and Manufacturing, which is a commercial product organisation, not a lab. The embedded role is equally concrete: developing embedded software for electrically powered equipment, writing tests for software components, and analysing software problems with test equipment and analysis tools to find root cause. Tool-wise, SolidWorks and AutoCAD are what SBD names in the live requisition; former interns in design-adjacent teams have reported CATIA V5 and Autodesk Alias, but those come from reviews years old rather than from the 2027 postings. On the post-graduate side, the Leadership Program requisition names Salesforce, Showpad and Power BI, which is a useful signal about where the analytics work lives after the internship.

How Is Demand for Engineering & Manufacturing Interns Moving Right Now?

Engineering and manufacturing intern hiring right now: September 2026

Qualitative signals from SBD's own 2027 requisitions and careers pages · not an aggregate market sample

Engineering posts first: SBD opened only its three engineering intern requisitions on September 1, 2026, while finance, supply chain, data analytics, marketing and advanced manufacturing had not yet posted for 2027
Embedded and firmware roles are appearing inside consumer-products companies: SBD's embedded requisition asks a tool company’s intern for bare-metal C and firmware testing on electrically powered equipment
=
The internship-to-rotational-program pipeline is explicit: SBD’s post-graduate Leadership Program requisition states it is geared toward recent graduates with internship experience, across seven functional tracks

September 2026 is this page's baseline. The signal is that hardware employers are recruiting software-shaped engineers into product teams, and that they are opening engineering seats first. For a CS or EE student, a tool company is now a legitimate embedded-systems employer rather than a fallback.

Method: these are qualitative signals read from SBD's three live Summer 2027 intern requisitions, its adjacent post-graduate Leadership Program requisition and its own careers pages, on September 6, 2026. This is not aggregate market data; no industry-wide posting sample was available because the hiring.cafe skill-frequency tool returned HTTP 403. Treat it as a September 2026 baseline for one employer.

How close is the overlap? The Hydroficient project is connected physical devices and firmware-level thinking, which is the embedded requisition's own subject matter. The Corporate Strategy project trains the business reasoning behind design for manufacturing, and SBD's mechanical requisition asks about cost, materials and production feasibility in exactly those terms. And the Amazon project is demand and fulfilment operations at scale, mapping onto both the supply chain internship SBD describes and the Leadership Program's manufacturing, planning and sourcing rotations.

What Is the Stanley Black & Decker Application and Interview Process Like?

SBD publishes its interview process on its own site, which most employers do not, and its stated posture is that "the objective isn't to ask trick questions or make you feel like you're in the hot seat." Here is the path:

1. Apply at sbdinc.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com, the only channel every SBD careers page links to. Search the exact requisition titles or the requisition IDs. SBD warns publicly about criminals posing as its recruiters with fake advertisements and offers.

2. Pre-interview. SBD states that "your application is reviewed as soon as possible by a human resources representative (as well as the direct hiring manager, in many cases)." Required documents are not published, so assume a resume.

3. Initial conversation, frequently virtual. SBD advises testing your computer and camera in advance, and describes this round as a chance to learn about you and go deeper on the role and the culture.

4. Team interview. "If we both agree to move forward, we'll schedule a follow-up interview(s) so you can meet the team you'd be working with."

5. Come with questions, because SBD says it will ask. Its interview page states plainly that someone will ask "So, do you have any questions for me?" and that it wants questions specific to the person you are speaking with, about the position, corporate strategy or team dynamic. Prepare three, tailored per interviewer.

6. Offer. Rolling, with no published timings.

SBD's own advice includes an instruction worth taking literally: "Do a little digging... You might be surprised to see how highly diversified we are. Much more than a tools manufacturer." The specifics that prove you did it are the Industry 4.0 initiative, the smart-factory positioning, and the Engineered Fastening segment, which did $1.97 billion of the company's $15.1 billion in FY2025. One more framing tip: SBD's trademarked purpose line is "For Those Who Make The World." Talking about durability and safety in terms of a tradesperson using the tool eight hours a day on a job site lands differently from talking about consumer experience. Our HireVue question guide with a free AI mock tool covers the same behavioral-question pressure and format.

None

There is no detailed SBD intern experience thread in public, so treat these as three concrete, useful data points rather than a full picture: one current-cycle intern's dates, one regional signal about where these roles sit, and one detail about the application form itself.

An incoming Stanley Black & Decker intern went looking for a Towson sublet and gave their window as June 1 to August 7, which lines up with the 10 to 12 week length SBD publishes. Two things follow from the post itself: the internship is onsite in Towson, and you arrange your own housing. SBD's requisitions neither offer nor exclude housing, so budget for it.

r/Towson incoming intern, paraphrased · read the thread

When an electrical engineering student asked where to intern in the Mid-Atlantic, two commenters independently pointed at Stanley Black & Decker's Towson headquarters. For tool-industry engineering work in that region it is the default answer, which is useful context for how competitive a small number of Towson seats is likely to be.

r/ElectricalEngineering paraphrased, regional thread · read the thread

Applicants have reported that SBD's application form asks you to name your own salary expectation up front rather than making an offer. One commenter pushed back that being asked early beats being surprised late in the process. Either way, have a researched number ready before you apply. This was reported for a professional engineering role rather than the intern requisition specifically.

How Do You Stand Out for Three Towson Engineering Seats?

Four moves. First, prove CAD rather than claim it. The mechanical requisition's single hard technical qualification is strong proficiency in CAD software for 3D modeling and detailed design, and a link to models, assemblies and dimensioned drawings you produced is worth more than the word SolidWorks on a resume line. On the embedded side, an STM32 or AVR project with test code is the equivalent proof. Second, talk about design for manufacturing, because most student portfolios optimise for elegance and SBD's requisition explicitly asks about cost, materials and production feasibility. If you can explain why you chose a moulded part over a machined one, or what your design costs at volume, you are answering a question the posting actually asks. Third, talk about the end user as a tradesperson. The purpose line is "For Those Who Make The World" and the products in the room are DEWALT, CRAFTSMAN, STANLEY, BLACK+DECKER, Cub Cadet and Hustler. Framing durability and safety around eight hours of job-site use is on-brand in a way that generic consumer language is not. Fourth, make your extracurriculars visible next to your grades, because SBD lists managing both as a separate qualification bullet, which employers almost never do. And if you want finance, sales or supply chain rather than engineering, the documented route is still to intern first: SBD's Leadership Program requisition says outright that it is geared toward recent graduates with internship experience.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Stanley Black & Decker internship?

No, that class has already run. What is open is summer 2027, and it opened on September 1, 2026: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Embedded Engineering intern requisitions, all in Towson, Maryland. None of them carries a closing date, so the right move is to apply now rather than waiting for a cycle announcement. SBD's other intern functions had not posted yet as of early September 2026.

What is the Stanley Black & Decker internship application deadline?

There isn't a published one. All three Summer 2027 requisitions returned an empty end date, and no deadline appears on the internships page or the early-career hub either. Treat the process as rolling until filled. Any "expires in X days" countdown you see on a third-party job board is that board's auto-expiry logic, not SBD's.

How much do Stanley Black & Decker interns get paid?

The requisition prints it: "The base pay range for this position in Maryland is $22.00- $27.00 per hour." That range appears on the mechanical and embedded requisitions, and SBD's own job card shows the same $22 to $27 for the electrical role. Note that this is a Maryland figure specifically, since all three roles are in Towson and Maryland has a pay-transparency law. SBD adds that pay "is based on market location," so a requisition posted in another state may carry a different band.

What GPA does Stanley Black & Decker require for internships?

No numeric GPA minimum is published anywhere. The requisitions ask only that you maintain strong academic credentials and, as a separate bullet, that you successfully manage strong academics alongside extracurricular activities. Because there is no stated number, there is nothing to self-reject against; the weight falls on demonstrated CAD or embedded capability and on visible extracurricular involvement.

Who is eligible for a Stanley Black & Decker internship?

The requirement as written is "be a rising junior or senior." The mechanical requisition accepts Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical, Industrial or Aerospace Engineering and requires strong proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD. The embedded requisition accepts Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering and wants someone interested in low-level, bare-metal embedded C programming plus firmware testing. Some search results describe a graduation-year window of 2027 or 2028, but that phrasing does not appear in the requisition text.

Does Stanley Black & Decker sponsor international students for internships?

The requisitions do not say, either way. Neither retrieved 2027 intern requisition contains any sponsorship, work-authorization or citizenship clause beyond the standard equal-opportunity block. That silence is not permission and not a refusal, so international students should ask the recruiter directly before investing time in the process.

Where are Stanley Black & Decker internships located, and is housing provided?

All three Summer 2027 intern requisitions are onsite in Towson, Maryland, and the requisitions state "Onsite Towson, MD" at the top. SBD says separately that it offers internships at its global hubs, but nothing outside Towson was posted for 2027 in early September 2026. Housing and relocation for interns are not addressed in the requisitions or on the internships page, and one incoming intern on Reddit was hunting for their own Towson sublet, so plan to arrange and budget for housing yourself.

Do Stanley Black & Decker interns get full-time offers?

SBD publishes no conversion rate. The requisitions promise "opportunity for career advancement upon graduation," and the stronger structural signal is the Leadership Program: its live Sales requisition says it is geared toward recent graduates with internship experience and a relevant degree, and six of its seven functional tracks map onto intern functions SBD already runs. One named Finance Leadership Program participant is quoted on SBD's own site saying she wants other students to know that working as an intern at the company will exceed their expectations. That is an architecture, not a percentage, and nobody should quote you a percentage.

Three Towson engineering seats opened on September 1 with no deadline behind them, and the rest of Stanley Black & Decker's intern functions post through the fall. Spend the runway building proof: a remote Externship pairs technical output with a business recommendation, which is the exact combination these requisitions ask for.
