Last updated: October 2026
Philips North America has 24 student roles open right now, and the wave is still growing. Its own Workday board listed 14 internships, mostly for summer 2027, and 10 co-ops on 25 October 2026, and nine of those internships carried Workday start dates between 19 and 23 October. In plain words, you apply during 2026 to intern in summer 2027, and the January 2027 co-ops are open at the same time. Every req posts an hourly pay range, from $21 to $24 for Nashville marketing and supply chain interns to $29 to $36 for San Diego engineering interns at bachelor level. All 24 say Philips won't consider anyone who needs visa sponsorship. This guide covers Philips' US student roles only, not Phillips 66, which is a separate company.

Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most commonly over 8 weeks at 5 to 10 hours a week, which fits around a January co-op application or a spring semester. The Health-Ade Consumer Behavior & Insights Externship matches Philips' customer insights and marketing analytics roles, and the Institute of Mental Health Healthcare Operations & Consulting Externship fits its health systems strategy roles. What Is a Philips Internship?
A Philips internship is a paid, in-person US internship or co-op at Philips North America, the US arm of the Dutch health technology company, hired through Philips' own Workday board. Its postings describe three-month paid internships and six-month co-ops, and the North America students page is the overview. There's no single branded program. Each team posts its own req, from systems engineering and test automation interns in San Diego to health systems marketing interns in Cambridge and manufacturing co-ops at the company's Pennsylvania plants.

When Do Philips Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Philips posts student roles req by req on Workday, and the wave is still arriving. The January 2027 co-ops carry Workday start dates from 3 September to 21 October 2026, about 2.5 to 4 months before a January start. The summer 2027 internships carry start dates from 2 October to 23 October, about 7 to 8 months before a June start (the reqs name the season, not an exact date), and nine of the 14 carry start dates from 19 to 23 October. Reddit posts from September 2024 and September 2025 asking about interviews for January and spring co-ops point to September postings in earlier years, but those are community reports, not Philips dates.
Applications are open right now for 14 internships, mostly summer 2027, and 10 co-ops. Five student reqs that were live on 17 October, including a Colorado Springs design assurance internship with a 16 October start date, were gone by 25 October.
Interviews and offers for January co-ops, and for summer interns as reqs close. Philips doesn't publish its steps, so ask each recruiter what comes after the application.
Nine co-ops start (six months to June, some to July or August). Expected: more summer 2027 interns post, since new reqs were still arriving on 23 October.
Expected: the July–December 2027 co-op cohort fills out (one req has been live since 1 September), and summer 2027 seats close role by role.
Interns work about three months at their site. Philips doesn't publish a conversion rate.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Philips' reqs carry no closing date, but they don't stay up long. Between 17 and 25 October 2026, five student reqs left the board: an Inside Sales Dental internship and a Service Sales internship in Nashville, an R&D NPI internship in San Diego, a Design Engineering co-op in Latham and a Design Assurance internship in Colorado Springs that had only been posted on 16 October. Meanwhile, seven new internships and a new Latham co-op appeared. With one req per team, seats fill one at a time, so apply within days of seeing a role that fits.

Search the Workday board for "intern" and "co-op" with the country set to United States, then read each req's term line.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Philips sets eligibility per req, with a lot of shared wording across the 24 US student roles.
• Enrollment: most reqs welcome students currently pursuing an undergraduate (BS) and/or graduate (MS) degree. Six ask for a bachelor's candidate only, such as the Nashville distribution and demand generation internships.
• Work authorization: all 24 say US work authorization is a precondition and that Philips won't consider candidates who require sponsorship, now or in the future.
• Relocation: 17 of the 24 say company relocation benefits won't be provided.
• Work model: the standard text says office-based teams work in person at least three days a week, and onsite roles need full-time presence.
• GPA: none of the 24 reqs states a GPA floor.

Can International Students Apply?
Only if you won't need sponsorship. The wording covers "now or in the future", which reads as excluding students who'd need a work visa after graduation as well as those who need one for the internship itself. If you're on a student visa, confirm with a recruiter before you apply, and look at Philips' student programs in your home country.
What Skills Does Philips Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Three groups run through Philips' 24 US student reqs. Working skills come first: 23 name problem-solving or analysis, 23 name teamwork and 19 name communication. Technical and process skills follow, with manufacturing or process improvement in 13 reqs and medical device quality or regulation in 10. Data and tools show up in many of the business roles: 11 name data tools such as SQL, Python, Tableau or Power BI, and 10 name Excel or Microsoft Office.

For Philips applicants: Philips' own Workday board had 24 US student reqs on 25 October 2026, and five left the board within about a week, so don't wait for the market to settle before you apply.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each row maps a skill from Philips' live reqs to a remote Externship that produces a finished project.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Data and BI tools | Insights and Analytics (Health Systems Marketing) intern: "Experience with modern data and analytics tools, including Python, R, or SQL" | Breaking Games SQL & Database Architecture |
| Customer insight and marketing analytics | Customer Experience Analytics intern: "analyze customer feedback, identify trends, and generate actionable insights" | Health-Ade Consumer Behavior & Insights |
| Supply chain and logistics analysis | Distribution and Reverse Logistics intern: supply chain analyst on last-mile distribution; "proficiency in EXCEL" | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Healthcare strategy and operations | Customer Experience Analytics intern sits in Health Systems Strategy and Growth | Institute of Mental Health Healthcare Operations & Consulting |
None of these Externships is affiliated with Philips. None covers medical device engineering or test automation, so they build the business and data side of these roles. Most run about 8 weeks, so one started in November can finish before spring postings.
What Is the Philips Application and Interview Process Like?
Philips doesn't publish an intern hiring process, so this combines the reqs with what we could verify.
1. Search Workday for United States. Student reqs are titled "Intern" or "Co-op", with the term in the title, such as Summer 2027 or January–June 2027.
2. Apply per req. Each role has its own application, and the pay band depends on whether you're a bachelor's or master's student.
3. Check the basics first. Every req says it won't consider candidates who need sponsorship, and 17 say there's no relocation help.
4. Expect an assessment or interview. Community posts from 2024 and 2025 mention interview invitations and a virtual assessment for software co-ops, with no detail, so ask your recruiter about format.
Philips doesn't publish how many rounds there are or how long decisions take.
What Students on Reddit Say
The Reddit threads we found on Philips co-ops are one-line questions about interview invites and assessments, with almost no first-hand detail, so there are no quote cards here.
How Do You Stand Out for a Philips Internship or Co-op?
First, apply to the specific team, not the company: each req describes real work, such as requirements traceability for medical device software or last-mile logistics for imaging equipment, so mirror those words in your resume. Second, bring proof that matches the track, such as a design controls or test automation project for engineering roles, or a dashboard or customer insights analysis for business roles. Third, be ready for a straight no-sponsorship answer. Philips doesn't publish applicant counts or a conversion rate.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Philips internship?
No. Summer 2026 is over, and Philips' Workday board shows no summer 2026 roles. What is open on 25 October 2026 is 14 internships, mostly for summer 2027, and 10 co-ops, nine of them starting in January 2027. Reqs leave the board without notice, so apply within days.
When do Philips summer 2027 internship applications open?
They're already open. Philips' summer 2027 internships carry Workday start dates between 2 and 23 October 2026, and new ones were still appearing on 23 October. Philips hasn't published a calendar, so check the Workday board weekly for more summer 2027 roles, which may keep appearing.
How much does Philips pay interns and co-ops?
Each req posts an hourly range. Nashville marketing and supply chain internships list $21 to $24, Cambridge marketing internships $26 to $30, San Diego engineering internships $29 to $36 at bachelor level, and most co-ops $25 to $29. Many reqs add a higher master's band of $33 to $46.
Does Philips sponsor visas for interns?
No. All 24 live US student reqs say US work authorization is a precondition and that Philips won't consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa, now or in the future. International students who need sponsorship should look at Philips roles in their home country instead.
How long are Philips internships and co-ops?
Internships run about three months, and some San Diego engineering roles list three to six months. Co-ops run six months, mostly January to June 2027, with some to July or August and one July to December 2027. The term line on each req is the one to trust.
Where are Philips internships located?
The 24 live roles are in San Diego, California, Cambridge, Massachusetts, Nashville, Tennessee, Bothell, Washington, Plymouth, Minnesota, Latham, New York, and Murrysville, New Kensington and Reedsville, Pennsylvania. They're in person, and the standard text asks office-based teams to be on site at least three days a week.
Do I need to be a master's student to intern at Philips?
No. Most reqs welcome undergraduate and graduate students, and six ask for a bachelor's candidate only. Philips posts two pay bands on many reqs, a bachelor's band and a higher master's band, so your degree level affects the range but not usually your eligibility.
Is Philips the same as Phillips 66?
No. Philips is the Dutch health technology company covered here, and its US arm is Philips North America. Phillips 66, spelled with two Ls, is a separate US energy company with its own internships. Job sites sometimes mix them up, so check the employer name before you apply.
Philips' summer 2027 internships and January co-ops are open now, and reqs leave the board without notice. Apply this week, and if you want a finished project to discuss, a remote Externship can wrap up before spring.
