GE HealthCare Internship 2027–2028: Programs, Deadlines & How to Apply

Last updated: August 2026

GE HealthCare is a $20.6 billion medical technology company with approximately 54,000 colleagues in over 160 countries, and it has been an independent public company on Nasdaq only since January 2023, when it spun off from GE. Its summer-2027 internship requisitions went live on 19 July 2026, and most had closed within about four weeks. The Edison Engineering, Financial Management and Operations Management programs are already gone. As of mid-August 2026, one US student internship remains open: the Commercial Sales Leadership Program Internship in Waukesha, WI.

What Is a GE HealthCare Internship?

A GE HealthCare internship is a paid, 10-to-12-week summer placement inside one of six named development programs that span engineering, operations, finance, IT, commercial sales and quality/regulatory. Each program internship is a separate requisition with its own majors, GPA preferences and locations. There's no umbrella application. So where does the internship lead? The company is clear about the pipeline: "for our interns and co-ops who show big bold thinking, you could get hired onto our prestigious development program or other entry-level positions," referring to the two-year full-time rotational programs (EEDP, OMLP, FMP, CLP, ITDP, QRDP) that "many of our senior leaders started their careers on." And relocation and housing assistance is provided for the Wisconsin and Chicago programs.

When Do GE HealthCare Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

GE HealthCare doesn't publish opening dates or deadlines, so the calendar is read from its behavior. The summer-2027 wave opened on 19 July 2026 and most requisitions were gone within three to four weeks, verified against the company's own Workday API, which returned 404 for the closed reqs while returning full records for the two still live. That window has been moving earlier: the summer-2024 cycle opened in early September 2023, roughly six to seven weeks later than this one. Every requisition carries the same warning: "This job may close before the stated closing date, you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible."

Now · Mid-August 2026YOU ARE HERE

The summer-2027 wave opened 19 July 2026. The Edison Engineering, Financial Management and Operations Management internships are already closed (confirmed via GE HealthCare's Workday API returning 404). But the Commercial Sales Leadership Program Internship in Waukesha, WI is still live, posted 6 Aug 2026. If you're targeting a program that has closed, the realistic move is to set a daily alert and build proof for the summer-2028 wave.

The Healthcare Operations Consulting Externship and Wayfair AI Agent Engineering Externship are remote, real-company projects that give a GE HealthCare application finished work.

~mid-July 2027EXPECTEDSHORT WINDOW

Summer-2028 applications are expected to open here, on the 19 July 2026 pattern. The window has been moving earlier: summer 2024 opened in early September, summer 2027 opened in mid-July. Watch from late June. SHORT WINDOW: APPLY WEEK 1. Reqs can close inside three to four weeks with no published cutoff.

Aug to Nov 2027EXPECTED

Reqs close on independent, unpublished dates. The documented interview loop from the summer-2024 cycle: applied 4 Sep, interviewed 18 Oct, offered 3 Nov, about two months start to finish. Glassdoor's aggregate puts EEDP Software Intern hiring at 90 days.

Summer 2028

10 to 12 weeks, program-dependent. You'll own a project end to end and present outcomes to stakeholders and program leadership. Relocation and housing assistance for the Wisconsin and Chicago programs. GE HealthCare says top-performing interns can be hired onto its two-year rotational development programs.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

GE HealthCare answers the deadline question through its behavior, and the answer is brutal. In the summer-2027 cycle, four of five program internships were posted between 19 July and 6 August 2026. And the Edison Engineering, Financial Management and Operations Management reqs had already been pulled by mid-August, a window of roughly three to four weeks. Every requisition carries the same line: "This job may close before the stated closing date, you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible." There's no stated deadline because the real deadline is the day the req comes down.

Which GE HealthCare Internship Programs Should You Target?

GE HealthCare runs six named summer internship families, each a separate requisition. Don't apply to "GE HealthCare." Apply to a specific program instead. The EEDP software req names Java, C++ and Python as required, while the OMLP req names Lean, 5S and shop-floor process improvement, and the FMP req names Controllership and FP&A. A generic resume competes badly against requisitions this specific.

See the full list on the official internship job search. The development programs page covers the two-year full-time rotational versions: EEDP, OMLP, FMP, CLP, ITDP, QRDP, which are post-graduation roles, not summer internships. But the internship is frequently the on-ramp to those programs. GE HealthCare also runs service apprenticeships (field engineer, surgery field engineer, biomedical technician), a separate, year-round, non-student-cycle track.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

GE HealthCare's requirements vary by program. But two filters are consistent across every US requisition reviewed:

Work authorization (hard gate): every US GE HealthCare intern requisition states: "Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening." International students on F-1/OPT should know this early.

Enrollment: currently enrolled full-time undergraduate continuing studies after the internship. EEDP and QRDP also accept master's students. QRDP is graduate-only.

Class year: FMP and CLPi both restricted the summer-2027 cycle to current sophomores or juniors with expected graduation between December 2027 and May 2028.

GPA (preferred, not a gate): 3.0 on EEDP, FMP, CLPi and others; 2.85 on OMLP. Every requisition pairs it with: "though all applicants are encouraged to apply."

Relocation: required and assisted. EEDP: relocation assistance and housing stipend. FMP: relocation stipend and corporate housing in Chicago. CLPi: relocation and housing assistance for the Milwaukee area.

Does GE HealthCare Have a GPA Cutoff?

No. GPA sits under Preferred Qualifications on FMP, OMLP, CLPi and the Mechanical Engineering internship. The EEDP req lists only "Strong academic performance (GPA)" as a basic qualification with no number, and puts "3.0 or above" under Preferred. Every program adds the invitation: "though all applicants are encouraged to apply." The filter that IS hard is US work authorization. That's in Basic Qualifications on every req and has no flexibility language.

What Skills Does GE HealthCare Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Fifteen GE HealthCare intern and co-op job descriptions, five from the summer-2027 wave and ten from prior cycles, paint a company that hires breadth across its programs but repeats one profile: cross-functional collaboration in 13 of 15, technical communication in 12, analytical ability in 12. So what separates GE HealthCare from consumer-tech or finance peers? The regulated-device vocabulary: quality management systems, complaint handling, CAPA, pharmacovigilance, design validation and EHS compliance run through seven of 15 JDs. The company's own Edison Engineering page says the program teaches "intellectual property, working in a regulated industry, and customer awareness." A candidate who can say why a software change to a patient monitor isn't the same as a software change to a consumer app is doing something almost no other applicant does.

GE HealthCare had a single live US student internship requisition on 15 August 2026, so the current cycle alone couldn't support a chart. Function-mix caveat: the sample deliberately spans software, operations, finance, commercial, manufacturing, research, quality/regulatory and field-service roles, so no single bar reflects what any one program asks for. EEDP names Java, C++ and Python as required, while OMLP names none of them.

How Is Demand for Healthcare Interns Moving Right Now?

Corporate healthcare intern hiring right now: August 2026

Across 136 US corporate/business/research-track healthcare intern postings in a 700-ad sample · aggregate market data, all employers

~343 live "clinical intern" postings and ~211 "healthcare intern" postings indexed by Adzuna US; ZipRecruiter lists 1,000+ healthcare internship openings

Corporate-track median: ~$21.64/hour ($45,018/yr) across 136 corporate/business/research-track ads, meaningfully above the $18.99/hr clinical/patient-facing track
44 postings already name 2027, confirming the summer-2027 cycle is open. Near-zero remote share (0.5%), and healthcare interning is almost entirely on-site
Regulatory / FDA / compliance / quality ranks fourth on the aggregate corporate healthcare-intern skill list, exactly the vocabulary GE HealthCare's own requisitions use

August 2026 is this tracker's baseline month for healthcare-intern, so month-over-month shifts appear at the next update. The early signal: the corporate healthcare-intern track pays above the clinical track and rewards regulatory and quality vocabulary, the same vocabulary that runs through GE HealthCare's own JDs.

Method: aggregate analysis of 700 US healthcare-cluster intern postings via Adzuna, August 2026 baseline. Corporate/business/research track = 136 ads after excluding pharmacy, nurse, PRN, tech, radiology, therapy and patient-care titles. Skill percentages are floor estimates from 250-character Adzuna snippets; use rank order, not absolute rates. Sample indexes under half of all US postings; figures show direction and relative level, not total market share.

Extern has no medical-device, regulatory-affairs, quality-systems or CAD externship in the active catalog. These build the adjacent, documented project evidence GE HealthCare's requisitions actually reward: cross-functional collaboration, analytics, process improvement, technical communication. Not FDA design controls or Creo.

What Is the GE HealthCare Application and Interview Process Like?

How hard is it to get through the door? GE HealthCare's intern interview loop is shorter and less structured than big tech's:

1. Watch the board and set a daily alert. Summer-2028 reqs are expected on careers.gehealthcare.com around mid-July 2027. Use the "Create Job Alert" panel with Experience Level = Co-op/Intern and Country = United States, set to Daily. With a three-to-four-week window, the alert is the difference between applying and not.

2. Apply to a specific program, not to "GE HealthCare." EEDP, OMLP, FMP, ITDP, CLPi and QRDP are separate requisitions with different majors, different GPA lines and different cities. Check the graduation-window restriction on FMP and CLPi before you write anything.

3. Recruiter phone screen. Background, program fit, location and relocation, work authorization.

4. One video interview, behavioural plus light technical. Zoom or Teams, roughly 30 to 60 minutes. Reported questions: "Explain one of your projects technically as if I have no knowledge in software engineering" and "Describe a time you were in an unfamiliar situation and how you dealt with it." No standardised online assessment surfaced for US roles.

5. Decision, typically within two months. Documented EEDP Software Intern cycle: applied 4 September, interviewed 18 October, offered 3 November. Glassdoor's aggregate puts EEDP Software Intern hiring at 90 days.

Difficulty is rated 3 of 5 on Glassdoor across 132 GE HealthCare intern interview reports. The loop is conversational. The differentiator? Showing you understand what a regulated medical-device company asks of its engineers, operators and finance people.

What Students on Reddit Say

Three threads, from the inside.

An incoming supply chain engineering intern choosing between Wisconsin sites: Madison, Milwaukee and others. The program is a Wisconsin program, and you get a site choice with your offer.

A UW-Madison computer engineering and CS student with an EEDP offer asks what the program actually is. The recurring question is whether the Edison program is worth taking over a pure software role.

A former intern manager's advice: treat the internship as a two-way interview that runs for the whole summer. Behave professionally throughout, because that's what decides whether you convert.

How Do You Stand Out When the Window Is Three to Four Weeks?

Three moves, and all of them start before the window opens. First: set a daily job alert on careers.gehealthcare.com filtered to Co-op/Intern and United States, and have the resume finished in June, not July. In the summer-2027 cycle the Edison, Financial Management and Operations Management internships were posted in mid-to-late July and were off the system by mid-August. Second, can your resume actually speak the program's language? The EEDP software req names Java, C++ and Python as required, while the OMLP req names Lean and shop-floor process improvement, and the FMP req names Controllership and FP&A. A single generic resume competes badly against six requisitions this specific. And third, show you understand this is a regulated medical-device business. The vocabulary is right in the reqs: quality management system, design validation, product surveillance, pharmacovigilance, EHS compliance. A candidate who can articulate why a software change to a patient monitor isn't the same as a software change to a consumer app does something almost no other applicant does.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2027 GE HealthCare internship?

Partly. As of mid-August 2026 the Commercial Sales Leadership Program Internship in Waukesha, Wisconsin is still open. But the Edison Engineering, Financial Management and Operations Management internships posted in July 2026 have already closed. So check GE HealthCare's internship job search directly, then set a daily alert for the summer-2028 wave around mid-July 2027.

When do GE HealthCare internship applications open?

The summer-2027 requisitions went live on 19 July 2026, roughly 10 to 11 months before a summer 2027 start. So when should you expect the next wave? Around mid-July 2027, and the window has been moving earlier over time: the summer-2024 cycle opened in early September 2023.

Are GE HealthCare internships rolling?

No. They open and close fast without a published deadline. And in the summer-2027 cycle the Edison, Financial Management and Operations Management internships were posted in mid-to-late July 2026 and were gone within three to four weeks. Every requisition says it may close before its stated closing date.

What GPA does GE HealthCare require for an internship?

There's no hard cutoff. GPA sits under Preferred Qualifications, at 3.0 for the Edison, Financial Management and Commercial programs and 2.85 for Operations Management, and each one adds that all applicants are encouraged to apply. What IS hard? US work authorization.

Does GE HealthCare sponsor visas for interns?

No. Every US GE HealthCare intern requisition reviewed states that legal authorization to work in the United States is required and that the company won't sponsor employment visas, now or in the future, for that opening. So if you're on an F-1 visa, this one's off the table. Listings record eligibility as US citizen or US permanent resident only.

How much do GE HealthCare interns get paid?

It depends heavily on the role and site. And the spread is enormous: GE HealthCare posted a Biomedical Technician Intern at $15 to $20 an hour and an AI research intern in Bellevue, Washington at $45 to $57 an hour in the same cycle. The company publishes no single intern rate, but provides relocation and housing assistance.

What is the GE HealthCare intern interview process like?

Usually two conversations: a recruiter phone screen, then one Zoom or Teams interview mixing behavioural questions with some technical ones. And no standardised online assessment surfaced for US roles. One documented Edison Engineering software cycle ran from application on 4 September to offer on 3 November.

Where are GE HealthCare internships located?

Mostly southeastern Wisconsin. Are you willing to relocate? The programs recruit to Waukesha and greater Milwaukee, plus Chicago for finance, and the Operations Management internship lists Arlington Heights IL, Florence SC, Noblesville IN, Salt Lake City UT, Warrensville Heights and Aurora OH, and Phoenix AZ. Relocation assistance is provided.

The summer-2027 window proved it: GE HealthCare's internship reqs open in mid-July and most close inside a month, with no published deadline. Set the daily alert now and spend the runway on proof. A remote Externship turns "I'm interested in medtech" into a finished project a week-one application can point at.
