Pentair posts its whole summer internship class at once. On 2 September 2026, all eight Leadership Development Internship Program reqs for summer 2027 went live on Pentair's Workday board, and on 3 October 2026 all eight were still open. Each one publishes its hourly rate, from $28 to $35, and each carries the same line: "Posting End Date: March 1st, 2027."

In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, and you intern in summer 2027. Pentair is a water-solutions manufacturer (pool equipment, flow and water treatment) with about $4.2 billion in 2025 sales, and its internship is built as a feeder: Pentair's early careers page says successful interns can receive an offer to join its rotational full-time Leadership Development Programs after graduation.

What Is a Pentair Internship?

A Pentair internship is a paid 12-week summer placement in Pentair's Leadership Development Internship Program, run by the NYSE-listed water-solutions company headquartered in the Minneapolis area. Pentair has about 9,000 employees across its Flow, Water Solutions and Pool segments. Each intern is hired into one function, from engineering and supply chain to finance, IT, HR, marketing, product management and sales, and is "assigned to a real-world, strategic business project" that they present to leadership at the end of the summer. Around that project sit a formal mentor, coffee chats with leaders, an executive speaker series, a team case competition and the Intern Summit, a week at Pentair's Minneapolis headquarters. The program is a pipeline: each track asks for a strong interest in the matching full-time rotational Leadership Development Program.

When Do Pentair Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Pentair has now run the same calendar two years in a row. The summer 2026 Engineering req went up on 3 September 2025, and both summer 2026 reqs we found carried a posting end date of 1 March 2026. The summer 2027 reqs went up on 2 September 2026 with a posting end date of 1 March 2027. The cycle before that was much later: the summer 2025 Engineering req was posted on 9 January 2025 and closed on 15 April 2025, so Pentair moved its whole window about four months earlier and has kept it there. Applications for summer 2027 are open now, about nine months before Session 1 starts in late May 2027. Applications for summer 2028 are expected to open around early September 2027.

The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Pentair runs a hard deadline, not an open-ended rolling window. Every summer 2027 req ends with the same sentence, "Posting End Date: March 1st, 2027", and Pentair kept exactly that cutoff from last year. After 1 March there's no way in for summer 2027.

The practical deadline is earlier. Each track is a single req for the whole country, so one Finance req, one Sales req and so on, and interviews run while the posting is up. Applying in the fall puts you in front of recruiters while every seat is still open, instead of in February when some may already be filled.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Pentair's requirements are written the same way on every track, with the class year and degree set per track:

• Class year: seven tracks require a current junior with a preferred graduation date of spring 2028; the HR track requires a first-year graduate student.

• Degree: set per track, for example finance or accounting for Finance and engineering or computer science for Engineering.

• Work authorization: every req says you "must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future", and Pentair's FAQ says it doesn't sponsor internships, including CPT or OPT.

• Relocation: every track asks you to be willing to relocate during the full-time Leadership Development Program; relocation support for the summer depends on your placement.

• GPA: none of the eight reqs states a GPA minimum.

Can Sophomores or Seniors Apply?

Mostly not. Pentair's FAQ says the program is meant for students who'll graduate the winter or spring after their internship, and seven reqs ask for a junior graduating in spring 2028. If you're a sophomore now, the summer 2028 cycle, expected to open around September 2027, is the one built for you. Seniors graduating in 2027 should look at Pentair's full-time Leadership Development Programs instead; one 2027 Engineering LDP req for computer science and computer engineering grads was live on 3 October.

What Skills Does Pentair Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Pentair's eight reqs are short and share most of their text, so the signal is in what repeats:

• Office tools and presenting: all eight require Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and all eight end in a project presentation to leadership.

• Commitment to the LDP: every track asks for a strong interest in the matching full-time rotational program and a willingness to relocate during it.

• Degree fit: five tracks take business majors and three take engineering majors; IT & Cybersecurity adds hands-on skill in at least one IT domain, such as application development, infrastructure or cybersecurity.

What Is the Pentair Application and Interview Process Like?

Pentair publishes its own six-step process on its internships page:

1. Find the role. Search Pentair Careers, Handshake or your campus career site for the Leadership Development Internship track you want.

2. Apply in Workday. Submit your application and resume on Pentair's Workday board; each track is one req covering all its locations.

3. Connect with a campus recruiter. A Pentair campus recruiter follows up with shortlisted applicants.

4. Interview with functional and HR leaders. Pentair doesn't publish the format, and we found no first-hand account of it online.

5. Get a decision. Offers come before the 1 March 2027 posting end date; Session 1 starts in late May 2027.

Three moves that fit how Pentair hires.

First, apply for the full-time program, not just the summer. Every track asks for a strong interest in the matching three-year rotational Leadership Development Program, and the internship is how Pentair fills it. Say which LDP you want and why.

Second, be open about locations. Engineering lists up to nine summer sites and Supply Chain & Operations eleven. Tell the recruiter which sites you can work at, and show you're comfortable with the relocation the full-time program requires.

Third, bring a project you can present. Pentair ends the summer with a presentation of your project's objectives, process and results to leadership. A finished project you can explain the same way is the closest preview of that job.

Pentair doesn't publish a conversion rate. Its early careers page features 2023 and 2024 interns who joined the full-time program after their internship.
