Last updated: October 2026
KSM (Katz, Sapper & Miller) has 16 internship postings open right now, and they cover two years. On October 12, 2026, the firm's job board listed tax, audit and specialty internships for spring and winter 2027, summer 2027, and spring and winter 2028, across six offices and one remote role. Most were posted in a single batch on August 17 and 18, 2026.
In plain words: KSM posts its intern cohorts once a year, in mid-August, and it posts the following two years together. You can apply during 2026 for a busy-season internship that starts in January 2027, for summer 2027, or for one that starts in January 2028, about 16.5 months out. Most seats are in tax. For summer 2027, audit is posted only in Fort Wayne. No posting states a deadline or a pay rate. Chicago and New York call the busy-season cohort "Winter," while the Indiana and Ohio offices call it "Spring."
What Is a KSM Internship?
A KSM internship is a role at KSM, short for Katz, Sapper & Miller, an Indianapolis accounting firm, in which a student works on client engagements in tax or audit during the winter busy season or the summer. The postings describe it as "essentially performing the role of a first-year associate accountant," with orientation, technical training and on-the-job work for clients from start-ups to multinational companies. Smaller internships sit in the firm's corporate finance, insurance examination and tax due diligence groups.
KSM's about page says it has more than 800 team members in seven offices and ranks as the 40th largest US accounting firm according to INSIDE Public Accounting. It has been employee-owned since 2001. KSM is ranked #19 on the Vault Accounting 25 (2027 edition), and Vault's 2026 internship rankings placed its program #7 among accounting internships. Vault's program profile lists a class of 51 to 100 interns.

When Do KSM Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
KSM posts once a year and covers two years at a time. Fifteen of its 18 student postings carry a posting date of August 17 or 18, 2026, which reads as one batch. That batch held three sets of cohorts. Spring and winter 2027 internships start in January 2027, about 4.5 months after posting. Summer 2027 internships start about 9.5 months after posting. Spring and winter 2028 internships start in January 2028, about 16.5 months after posting. A few roles came later: the Fort Wayne spring 2027 tax posting on August 25, the Staff Examiner posting on September 14, and the Tax Due Diligence posting on October 6. Only this one cycle could be documented, so the 2027 date below is a single-year projection.
Applications are open right now for 16 internships: five for spring or winter 2027, four for summer 2027 and seven for spring or winter 2028. Two Gateways leadership sessions for summer 2027 are posted as well. No posting states a deadline.
The spring and winter 2027 cohorts start: tax interns in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Chicago and New York, and the remote Tax Due Diligence intern in Indiana. These postings can come down once the seats are filled.
The summer 2027 cohort runs: Tax in Indianapolis, Audit in Fort Wayne, Corporate Finance in Grand Rapids and Staff Examiner in Indianapolis. The Gateways leadership sessions take place in Indianapolis and Cincinnati.
The next batch is expected: internships for summer 2028 and for spring and winter 2029. This is projected from the August 17 and 18, 2026 batch, one documented cycle, so treat the date as an estimate.
The spring and winter 2028 cohorts start: tax interns in Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Fort Wayne, Chicago and New York, and audit interns in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. These are the seats posted about 16.5 months ahead.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
KSM's postings are rolling: none of the 16 states a closing date. The reason to apply early is the batch. Nearly everything went up on August 17 and 18, 2026, including internships that don't start until January 2028. Students who apply in August are choosing from every office and cohort. By October some combinations aren't on the board at all. There's no summer 2027 audit posting for Indianapolis, the firm's headquarters, and no summer 2027 tax posting outside Indianapolis.
We can't tell you whether those seats were filled or never posted. KSM's board keeps no trace of closed postings that we could recover. What the board does show is that sophomores and juniors can secure a spring 2028 seat now, more than a year ahead. If you wait for the cohort to feel close, other students will have had the posting in front of them for months.
Which KSM Internship Programs Should You Target?
KSM's 16 postings come in five types. Tax has the most seats, and three specialty roles sit with affiliated teams that hire through the same board.
| Program | Focus | Cohorts and offices posted | Key requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tax Intern (10 postings) | Tax work for clients from start-ups to multinational companies, with technical training | Spring 2027: Indianapolis, Fort Wayne. Winter 2027: Chicago, New York. Summer 2027: Indianapolis. Spring 2028: Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Fort Wayne. Winter 2028: Chicago, New York | Business or accounting degree in progress, CPA track, 3.0 GPA |
| Audit Intern (3 postings) | Audit engagements alongside associates, seniors, managers and partners | Summer 2027: Fort Wayne. Spring 2028: Indianapolis, Fort Wayne | Business or accounting degree in progress, CPA track, 3.0 GPA |
| KSM Corporate Finance Intern | Deal analysis, financial and industry due diligence, valuation and financial modeling, client pitches | Summer 2027: Grand Rapids | Finance, accounting or economics major taking junior or senior coursework; Microsoft Office |
| Staff Examiner Intern (Noble Consulting Services) | Risk-focused statutory examinations of insurance companies; statutory accounting; TeamMate | Summer 2027: Indianapolis | Accounting, risk management, economics or information science major; willing to travel |
| Intern - Tax Due Diligence | Tax due diligence and M&A advisory engagements, tax document analysis, report drafting, research | Spring 2027: Remote - Indiana | Accounting, law, finance, pre-law or statistics; junior standing or above |
| Gateways Summer Leadership Program (not an internship) | A one-and-a-half-day introduction to public accounting | Summer 2027: Indianapolis, Cincinnati | Not stated in the posting |
Noble Consulting Services describes itself as "part of the KSM family" and works for insurance regulators; KSM Corporate Finance is the firm's investment banking group. Both hire interns through the KSM job board. Program background is on the KSM students page.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The 13 tax and audit postings use one template with these requirements:
• Degree: "Working towards an Undergraduate or Master's Degree in Business or Accounting."
• CPA track: "On track for CPA Eligibility upon graduation."
• GPA: "Outstanding students with a minimum overall GPA of a 3.0."
• Skills: the ability to work in a team with client personnel, and strong written and verbal communication.
• Class year and graduation date: not stated in the tax and audit postings. Tax Due Diligence asks for junior standing or above, and Corporate Finance asks for junior or senior level coursework.
• Work authorization: the postings don't address visa sponsorship, so ask the recruiter if you'd need it.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff at KSM?
Treat it as one for tax and audit. All 13 of those postings print "a minimum overall GPA of a 3.0," and Vault's profile lists the same floor, a band of 3.00 to 3.49. The three specialty postings don't print a GPA. Tax Due Diligence asks for "strong academic performance" instead, and Staff Examiner and Corporate Finance state majors and coursework only. KSM publishes no statement about exceptions.

What Skills Does KSM Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
KSM's tax and audit postings are light on technical detail. They ask for written and verbal communication, teamwork "with all levels of client personnel," a business or accounting degree in progress, a 3.0 GPA and a CPA track, and they name no software. The specialty postings are more specific. Corporate Finance wants "valuation analysis and technical financial modeling," due diligence and market research. Staff Examiner interns learn statutory accounting and the TeamMate audit tool. Tax Due Diligence wants "strong analytical, communication, and writing skills" and technical research.

How Is Demand for Accounting Interns Moving Right Now?

For KSM applicants: KSM posted most of its 16 intern openings on August 17 and 18, 2026, covering 2027 and 2028 cohorts, and none states a deadline. Pick your cohort and office now, since summer 2027 audit is posted only in Fort Wayne.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each KSM skill area maps to a remote Externship that leaves you with a finished project to discuss.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Valuation and financial modeling | Corporate Finance: "Prepare valuation analysis and technical financial modeling analysis" | Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling |
| Due diligence and company analysis | Corporate Finance: "Perform and execute financial and industry due diligence" | HP Tech Ventures Deal Sourcing & Startup Analysis |
| Analysis of real business data | Tax and audit: "real, meaningful work engagements" for clients across industries | Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy |
| Document analysis and report drafting | Tax Due Diligence: "analyzing tax documents" and "report drafting" | Pfizer Advanced: AI-Powered Document Insights & Data Extraction |
The first two rows fit Corporate Finance applicants best. For tax and audit, any finished project with real numbers gives you something concrete for a posting that asks mainly about communication and teamwork.
What Is the KSM Application and Interview Process Like?
KSM doesn't publish its interview format. Here's what the postings and Vault's profile show:
1. Choose a cohort and office. Each posting is one cohort in one office, so read the title closely. In Chicago and New York, look for "Winter" where other offices say "Spring."
2. Apply on the job board. Vault says you can also apply through Handshake with a resume.
3. Meet recruiters at career fairs. One intern told Vault that talking with a recruiter at a career fair, then connecting on LinkedIn, was how they got the position.
4. Interview. Rounds and format aren't published. The same Vault review called the difficulty "pretty standard" and said standards varied by office and department.
5. Internship. You start with intern orientation and technical training, then work on client engagements.
With a posting that stresses communication and teamwork, expect behavioral questions; our behavioral interview guide covers the structure.
What Interns Say on Vault
We found no Reddit thread about KSM internships, so these come from intern reviews on Vault's profile of the program.
A tax intern said the work was mostly basic returns, starting with business returns and moving to mainly individual returns with some trusts. They could do most of it alone and always had someone to ask or shadow.
An audit intern described helping on engagements for employee benefit plans, not-for-profits and financial services clients, both in the office and at client sites.
One intern got the position after meeting a recruiter at a career fair and following up on LinkedIn. They called the interview difficulty fairly standard, with reasonably high standards that varied by office.
How Do You Stand Out for a KSM Internship?
Three moves. First, apply for the right cohort early. If you're a sophomore or junior, the spring and winter 2028 postings are already open; you don't have to wait a year. Second, cover the three written gates in your resume. Tax and audit postings ask for a business or accounting degree in progress, a 3.0 overall GPA and a path to CPA eligibility at graduation. State your GPA and your credit-hour plan plainly. Third, meet a recruiter in person. A Vault reviewer got the role through a career fair conversation and a LinkedIn follow-up.
If accounting isn't your major, look at the specialty roles. Corporate Finance takes finance and economics majors, and Tax Due Diligence takes law, pre-law, finance and statistics students. KSM publishes no applicant count or conversion rate. Vault lists the class at 51 to 100 interns and ranked the program #9 for employment prospects in its 2026 internship rankings.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a 2027 KSM internship?
Yes. As of October 12, 2026, KSM has five postings for spring or winter 2027, which start in January, and four for summer 2027: Tax in Indianapolis, Audit in Fort Wayne, Corporate Finance in Grand Rapids and Staff Examiner in Indianapolis. Seven more postings are for spring or winter 2028. No posting lists a deadline.
When does KSM post its internships?
In one batch in mid-August. Most of the current postings went up on August 17 and 18, 2026, covering spring and winter 2027, summer 2027, and spring and winter 2028. Expect the next batch, for summer 2028 and spring and winter 2029, around mid-August 2027. That date is projected from one cycle.
Does KSM have an application deadline?
No posting states one. None of the 16 intern postings lists a closing date, so they work as rolling openings. Timing still matters: some office and cohort combinations aren't on the board in October, such as a summer 2027 audit internship in Indianapolis, and we can't tell whether those were filled or never posted.
How much do KSM interns make?
KSM doesn't publish intern pay. None of the 16 postings prints a dollar figure, including the Chicago and New York ones. The only dated signal is Vault, which ranked the program #7 for compensation and benefits in its 2026 internship rankings. Ask the recruiter for the hourly rate for your office.
What GPA do you need for a KSM internship?
A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 for tax and audit. All 13 of those postings state it, along with a business or accounting degree in progress and being on track for CPA eligibility at graduation. The Corporate Finance, Staff Examiner and Tax Due Diligence postings don't print a GPA but set their own majors.
Does KSM have a summer audit internship?
Yes, but only in Fort Wayne for summer 2027. The Indianapolis audit internship on the board is for spring 2028, and Fort Wayne has a spring 2028 audit posting too. For summer 2027 in Indianapolis, the open roles are Tax Intern and Staff Examiner Intern. Check the board again in mid-August 2027 for summer 2028.
What is the KSM Gateways program?
Gateways is a one-and-a-half-day leadership program that introduces students to public accounting, and it isn't an internship. Summer 2027 sessions are posted for Indianapolis and Cincinnati on the same job board. The postings don't state a class year or GPA requirement, so ask the campus recruiter whether you're eligible before you apply.
Do KSM interns get full-time offers?
KSM doesn't publish a conversion rate. Its postings say interns show their "performance and ability to join Katz, Sapper & Miller as an Associate Accountant full-time," and Vault ranked the program #9 for employment prospects in its 2026 internship rankings. Ask about return offers and timing when you interview for your office.
KSM has 2027 and 2028 cohorts open at once, so pick your office and season and apply now. While you wait, a remote Externship gives you a finished modeling or data analysis project to bring to your KSM interview.
