Kawasaki's US internships are in Lincoln, Nebraska, and four were open on 25 October 2026: an Engineer Intern in R&D, a Manufacturing Process Engineer Intern for the consumer products plant, one for the rail car plant, and a Maintenance Technician Intern. They run part-time during the school year (10 hours a week minimum) and full-time in summer, so one req can cover this winter and summer 2027. In plain words, you apply now, start part-time this school year, and the same req moves to full-time hours in summer. Pay isn't published, and three of the four say interns are paid through a contract agency. This guide covers Kawasaki's Lincoln plants, posted on Kawasaki's job board.

Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most commonly over 8 weeks at 5 to 10 hours a week. No open Externship covers CAD, FEA or fabrication, so these fit the process-improvement side of Kawasaki's manufacturing roles. The Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics Externship builds process analysis, and the Hydroficient Advanced: IoT Cyber Defense Externship covers connected equipment. What Is a Kawasaki Internship?

A Kawasaki internship in the US is a part-time, school-year-plus-summer role at a Kawasaki Group plant in Lincoln, Nebraska. Two employers post them: Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp., U.S.A., which builds utility vehicles, engines and aerospace components, and Kawasaki Rail Car Lincoln, which builds passenger rail cars. There's no branded program; each req is a single intern seat on the plant floor or in R&D. Other Kawasaki companies in the US, including its robotics, precision machinery and Yonkers rail operations, run their own career pages that we didn't search for interns. Kawasaki's Japan graduate hiring is outside this guide.

When Do Kawasaki Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Kawasaki's Lincoln internships aren't a yearly summer cohort. Each req is posted when a team wants a student, and each runs through the school year into summer. The four open reqs went up between 31 August and 2 October 2026, and none shows a closing date. Posting-to-start isn't published, and Kawasaki's own pages show no prior-cycle dates, so we won't project a summer 2027 window.

Now · October 2026YOU ARE HERE

Four Lincoln intern reqs are open: R&D Engineer Intern (posted 2 October), Manufacturing Process Engineer Intern (16 September), Maintenance Technician Intern (2 September) and Rail Manufacturing Process Engineer Intern (31 August). Tell the recruiter your class schedule when you apply.

Apply first, then build something to discuss: the Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics Externship for process improvement, or the Hydroficient Advanced: IoT Cyber Defense Externship for connected equipment.
Fall and spring semesters

The reqs run part-time during the school year, at least 10 hours a week. The Maintenance Technician req offers a flexible schedule built around classes.

Any time

Kawasaki shows no closing dates, so a req can come down when a seat is filled. Re-check the board before you plan around one.

Winter and spring 2027EXPECTED

Expected: more intern reqs may appear, but Kawasaki hasn't posted a summer 2027 wave and its pages give no prior-cycle dates, so we can't date one.

Summer 2027

Under the current reqs, hours go full time in summer, and the Maintenance intern can work up to 40 hours a week during school breaks.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Kawasaki shows no closing date, so the board is the only clock. These are one-seat plant internships, and nothing in the reqs says how long they stay open. The oldest of the four, the Rail Manufacturing Process Engineer Intern, has been up since 31 August 2026. Because they're part-time roles that start whenever you're hired, there's no reason to wait for a summer window. If a req fits your major, apply this week and re-check the board before assuming it's still open.

Which Kawasaki Internship Programs Should You Target?

These are the four Lincoln intern reqs open on 25 October 2026.

Open each req on the job board and read the plant named in the first line: the consumer products and rail car plants are separate employers.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

The Lincoln reqs are open to students at an early stage, with some role-specific rules.

• Education: a high school diploma or GED is required on the three engineering reqs; some college is preferred, ideally a degree in engineering, mechanical engineering or agricultural engineering.

• Maintenance intern: a degree in, or current enrollment in, an electro-mechanical field or related program, and 18 or older.

• Availability: at least 10 hours a week during the school year; full time in summer.

• Pay arrangement: three reqs say the position is paid through contract agency Advance Services Inc.

• Work authorization and GPA: neither is mentioned in the four reqs.

Do You Need to Be an Engineering Major?

Not necessarily. The engineering reqs say some college is "preferred", and the minimum is a high school diploma or GED, with a degree in engineering described as preferable. The Maintenance Technician req is the stricter one, asking for enrollment in an electro-mechanical field. For all four, say in your application which classes you're taking and when you can work.

What Skills Does Kawasaki Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

The four reqs are short, so the skills are concrete. Design and analysis: CATIA 3D modeling, prints, assembly manuals and FEA for the R&D role, and tool design and modeling for the rail role. Process work: learning assembly and fabrication, updating operation procedures and work instructions, and running continuous improvement projects for rail car functional testing. Hands-on maintenance: automated equipment, programmable controllers and electrical and electronic troubleshooting.

Note: Four reqs is too small a sample for a skill-frequency chart, and the reqs are only a few lines each. The skills above come directly from their text.

For Kawasaki applicants: three of Kawasaki's four open Lincoln intern reqs on 25 October 2026 are engineering roles and one is maintenance, so the broader mechanical engineering intern market is the closest read here.

Daily US job-posting counts, Sep 1–30 vs Aug 1–31, 2026. Covers under half of US postings; shows direction, not market size. Pay = median of employer-published ranges only (87 postings in September, 36 in August).

Build These Skills Before You Apply

Each row maps a skill from Kawasaki's live reqs to a remote Externship. No open Externship covers CAD, FEA or fabrication, so these build the process and systems side only.

None of these Externships is affiliated with Kawasaki. Most run about 8 weeks, so one started in November can finish before the spring semester.

What Is the Kawasaki Application and Interview Process Like?

Kawasaki doesn't publish its intern interview steps; this covers what the reqs show.

1. Find the Lincoln reqs. Start at kawasakicareers.com and choose "Apply in Lincoln, NE", which opens the job board.

2. Apply to the req that matches your major. Each req names its plant, and the rail req is a separate employer from the consumer products reqs.

3. Share your class schedule. The reqs are built around school-year hours, so state when you can work.

4. Ask who pays you. Three reqs say pay comes through contract agency Advance Services Inc. and give no rate, so ask for the hourly rate and who your employer of record is.

What Students on Reddit Say

We found no first-hand Reddit posts from Kawasaki's US interns. The r/lincoln threads are general opinions about working at the plant, not internship accounts, so there are no community cards here.

How Do You Stand Out for a Kawasaki Internship?

First, name the plant and the role in your application: the consumer products plant, the rail car plant and R&D hire for different work. Second, bring hands-on proof, such as a CAD model in CATIA or similar software, a build or repair project, or lab work with controllers. Third, give a clear schedule, since the reqs are part-time in the school year and full time in summer. Kawasaki doesn't publish applicant counts or a conversion rate.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Kawasaki internship?

No. Summer 2026 is over. Four Lincoln, Nebraska intern reqs were open on 25 October 2026, and each runs part-time during the school year and full-time in summer. None has a closing date, so you can apply now and work through to summer 2027.

Does Kawasaki hire interns in the US?

Yes, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing and Kawasaki Rail Car Lincoln had four intern reqs on 25 October 2026. The separate Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. board for sales and finance had 28 reqs and no internships. Robotics and other Kawasaki companies post elsewhere.

How much do Kawasaki interns get paid?

The reqs don't say. Three of the four state that the intern is paid through the contract agency Advance Services Inc., and none gives a rate. We don't use pay figures from job aggregators. Ask the recruiter for the hourly rate and your employer of record.

How many hours do Kawasaki interns work?

At least 10 hours a week during the school year and full time in summer, according to the Engineer, Manufacturing Process Engineer and Rail reqs. The Maintenance Technician req suggests a minimum of 10 hours a week, with a schedule built around classes and up to 40 hours during school breaks.

Do I need to be in college to intern at Kawasaki?

Not strictly. The three engineering reqs require a high school diploma or GED and prefer some college, ideally in engineering. The Maintenance Technician req asks for a degree in or current enrollment in an electro-mechanical field, plus being 18 or older. Check the exact wording on the req.

When is the Kawasaki internship deadline?

No deadline is published. None of the four Lincoln reqs shows a closing date, and they were posted between 31 August and 2 October 2026. Because a req can come down when a seat is filled, apply soon and check the board again before you assume it's still open.

Are Kawasaki internships on-site?

Yes. All four are at manufacturing facilities in Lincoln, Nebraska, either the Consumer Products plant or the Rail Car plant. The school-year schedule is part-time, so the roles suit students who can reach Lincoln during the semester. The reqs don't mention relocation help or remote work.

Is Kawasaki Motors the same as Kawasaki Rail Car?

They're separate employers in the same Kawasaki Group. Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing, U.S.A. builds utility vehicles, engines and aerospace components, while the Rail Manufacturing Process Engineer Intern req names Kawasaki Rail Car Lincoln. Both post on the same Lincoln job board, so read the first line of each req.

Kawasaki's four Lincoln internships are open now with no deadline shown, and they can come down when filled. Apply to the one that fits your major, and if you want a finished project to discuss, a remote Externship can wrap up before the spring semester.
