Last updated: October 2026
Insmed's summer 2027 internships are open, and the wave is just starting. On October 3, 2026, its Workday board listed four summer 2027 intern roles, each paying $20.00 to $35.00 an hour for a 12-week, 40-hour-a-week program. The first went up on September 27, and three more were posted or refreshed on September 30. In plain words: you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027.
The class is small. Insmed's internship page says it welcomes "anywhere between 20 and 30 interns each summer," and it posts roles one team at a time through fall and spring. So four open roles today means the start of the class, not all of it. Insmed is the New Jersey rare-disease drugmaker that Science magazine has named its No. 1 Top Employer five years running.

What Is an Insmed Internship?
An Insmed internship is a paid, 12-week, full-time summer program at Insmed Incorporated, a Bridgewater, New Jersey biopharmaceutical company focused on serious and rare diseases. Interns work on a team project across research and development, technical operations or enabling functions, attend lunch-and-learns and volunteer events, and present their work to mentors and senior leaders at the end of the summer. Insmed reported $606.4 million in total revenue for 2025, most of it from its lung-infection drug ARIKAYCE plus the first partial year of BRINSUPRI. Its job postings cite Science magazine's No. 1 Top Employer ranking five years running and Great Place to Work certification in the US. The intern class is 20 to 30 people a summer, so each team usually hires one intern.

When Do Insmed Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Insmed posts summer roles one team at a time. For summer 2025, its old iCIMS board added gene therapy and biologics research roles in November 2024, biostatistics in January 2025 and a digital systems role in February 2025. For summer 2026, an Insmed LinkedIn post dated November 7, 2025 invited students to apply, and a PhD biostatistics posting circulated in December 2025. Summer 2027 started earlier: the first req went up on September 27, 2026, and four were live on October 3. Expect more summer 2027 roles from October 2026 to February 2027.
Summer 2027 applications are open right now on four roles: Gene Editing Discovery (on-site lab), Clinical Supply Chain and Logistics, Combination Product Development, and a fully remote Global Healthcare Compliance role. Insmed fills them on a rolling basis.
Campus season. Insmed lists fall 2026 events at Rutgers, the University of New Hampshire, Dartmouth, UC San Diego and San Diego State. Recruiter screens for the first four roles happen now.
More summer 2027 roles expected, posted team by team as last cycle's were (research, biostatistics, medical information and IT have all hired interns before). Each one fills on a rolling basis, so apply in the first week you see it.
Interviews and offers continue: one conversation with the university recruiting team, then up to three sessions with hiring managers, collaborators and teammates.
The 12-week program runs May to August or June to September 2027, full-time at 40 hours a week, and ends with a presentation to mentors and senior leaders. Full-time offers aren't guaranteed.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Insmed's own page says applications "traditionally open at the beginning of September and are filled on a rolling basis," and none of the four live postings lists an end date. With 20 to 30 interns spread across many teams, most roles hire a single person, so once a team makes its offer the posting is done. Roles also arrive one at a time, which means the right one for you may appear in November or January rather than today. Apply to anything that fits now, then check the Workday board every two weeks through February.
Which Insmed Internship Programs Should You Target?
Four summer 2027 roles were live on October 3, 2026. Earlier cycles also hired interns in biostatistics, medical information, biologics research, cloud and IT, and HR.
| Role | Focus | Duration | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gene Editing Discovery (R3730) | CRISPR knockouts and knock-ins, cloning, validating edits; Bridgewater research lab, on-site | 12 weeks, 40 hrs/week | CRISPR, PCR, Western blot, flow cytometry |
| Clinical Supply Chain and Logistics (R3741) | Clinical study start-up, demand forecasting, scenario planning; NJ headquarters, hybrid | 12 weeks, 40 hrs/week | Excel, MS Project, forecasting |
| Combination Product Development (R3753) | Design verification, risk management and design controls, post-market complaint investigation; hybrid | 12 weeks, 40 hrs/week | Biomedical, mechanical or chemical engineering; data analysis |

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Insmed's internship page says the program is for "undergraduate and graduate students in relevant fields." The live postings add:
• Degree level: current BS, MS or PhD students for Gene Editing; bachelor's or master's students in engineering for Combination Product Development and in supply chain or a similar field for Supply Chain; bachelor's, master's or doctoral students, JD included, for Compliance.
• GPA: none of the four live postings states one.
• Work authorization: none of the four postings states a sponsorship policy. Ask the recruiter before you invest in interviews.
• PhD roles: last cycle's PhD biostatistics internship asked for at least two years of graduate work completed by the start date (as relayed on Reddit).
• Availability: full-time, 40 hours a week for 12 weeks, on a May or June start.

Do You Need Lab Experience for an Insmed Internship?
Only for the research roles. Gene Editing Discovery lists CRISPR, cloning, PCR, Western blot and flow cytometry, so name the techniques you've actually run. The supply chain, engineering and compliance roles ask for organization, data analysis and comfort with digital tools instead, and the compliance role prefers students who have built something with AI or low-code tools.
What Skills Does Insmed Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Every live Insmed posting asks for communication and teamwork, and three of four ask for organization and attention to detail. Beyond that, the skills split by function. Research: Gene Editing Discovery wants hands-on molecular biology. Operations and engineering: supply chain and combination product roles want forecasting, design-control and data analysis skills. Compliance: the remote role wants someone who can build AI tools and understands healthcare rules such as the Anti-Kickback Statute and Sunshine Act.

How Is Demand for Research and Science Interns Moving Right Now?
Research intern postings · Sep vs Aug 2026
vs 1,651 in August
Most science internships posted in September. Insmed is a slower, team-by-team poster, so apply to its open roles now and keep other biotech applications moving in parallel.
Daily US job-posting counts, Sep 1–30 vs Aug 1–31, 2026. Covers under half of US postings; shows direction, not market size.
Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each Insmed skill maps to a remote Externship where you finish a real project before your interviews.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Healthcare compliance and process work | Global Healthcare Compliance: monitoring, healthcare compliance frameworks | Healthcare Operations Consulting |
| Building AI tools | Compliance role: build AI tools and agents; Python a plus | Pfizer Advanced: AI-Powered Document Insights & Data Extraction |
| Forecasting and supply chain analysis | Clinical Supply Chain: demand forecasting, scenario planning, Excel | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Scientific data analysis | Combination Product Development: analyze data, identify trends, summarize takeaways | Arceh Children's Environmental Health Analytics |
The compliance role is the closest match: it asks interns to build AI tools for monitoring work, and the Pfizer project has you build and test an AI document workflow end to end.
What Is the Insmed Application and Interview Process Like?
Insmed describes its intern hiring steps on the internships page FAQ:
1. Apply on Workday. Search the Insmed careers board and apply to each role separately; say whether you want the May or June start.
2. University recruiting interview. A first conversation with a member of Insmed's university recruiting team.
3. Team sessions. Up to three sessions with future hiring managers, collaborators and team members.
4. Offer. Rolling; Insmed doesn't publish a decision timeline.
5. Final presentation. Not part of hiring, but plan for it: every intern presents a project to mentors and senior leaders at the end of the summer.
Up to four conversations means you'll repeat your story several times; our phone interview guide and panel interview tips help you prepare.
What Past Interns and Applicants Say
Reddit has almost no first-hand Insmed intern discussion, so one card is a Reddit post and two come from intern spotlights on Insmed's own careers page (employer-published, paraphrased).
A December 2025 post flagged Insmed's PhD summer internship for statistics students and noted the requirement: at least two years of graduate work completed by the time the internship starts.
Colin, a summer 2024 biologics intern who now works at Insmed as a scientist, built a screening pipeline to evaluate large libraries of protein variants for drug development, a process the team still uses.
Jessie, a summer 2023 HR intern now an HR associate at Insmed, led the creation of talent profiles used in one of the company's largest hiring builds.
How Do You Stand Out for an Insmed Internship?
Three moves for a small class. First, match one team exactly. With 20 to 30 interns across research, operations and enabling functions, each posting is one team's single hire, so mirror its language: techniques for the lab role, forecasting for supply chain, design controls for combination products, AI tools for compliance. Second, bring a finished project. The program ends with a presentation to senior leaders, and interviewers look for someone who can carry a project from question to result. Third, keep applying as roles appear. Last cycle's roles posted from November to February, so a student who checks every two weeks sees more chances than one who applies once in October. Insmed says full-time offers aren't guaranteed and publishes no conversion rate, but it features past interns now on staff.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Insmed internship?
No. Summer 2026 has already run. The open door is summer 2027: on October 3, 2026 Insmed had four summer 2027 intern roles live on its Workday board, and more are expected team by team through February 2027. Insmed fills each role on a rolling basis.
When do Insmed internship applications open?
Insmed says applications traditionally open at the beginning of September. For summer 2027 the first role went up on September 27, 2026, and four were open by October 3. More are expected from October 2026 to February 2027, based on how last cycle's roles were posted.
How much do Insmed interns make?
All four summer 2027 postings list $20.00 to $35.00 an hour, full-time at 40 hours a week for 12 weeks. Interns also get paid company holidays. Where you land in that range depends on the role and your degree level; Insmed doesn't publish a per-role figure.
How many interns does Insmed hire?
Insmed's internship page says it welcomes anywhere between 20 and 30 interns each summer. That's a small class spread across research, technical operations and enabling functions, so most postings are a single team's one hire, and competition for each role is direct.
Are there remote Insmed internships?
Some. The summer 2027 Global Healthcare Compliance internship is fully remote, and the supply chain and combination product roles are hybrid out of Bridgewater, New Jersey. The Gene Editing Discovery role is on-site in Insmed's New Jersey research lab, and offices in California and New Hampshire also host interns.
What is the Insmed internship interview process?
Insmed's FAQ describes a first interview with its university recruiting team, then up to three sessions with future hiring managers, collaborators and team members. Prepare examples from your own lab, analysis or project work, and be clear about whether you want the May or June start.
Does Insmed require a minimum GPA?
None of the four live summer 2027 postings states a GPA. They ask for current undergraduate or graduate enrollment in a relevant field, plus skills such as lab techniques, forecasting, engineering or compliance knowledge. None of them states a visa sponsorship policy either, so confirm that with the recruiter.
Do Insmed interns get full-time offers?
Sometimes, but Insmed says full-time offers aren't guaranteed and it publishes no conversion rate. Its internship page features past interns now on staff, including a summer 2024 biologics intern who became a scientist and a summer 2023 HR intern who became an HR associate.
Insmed's first four summer 2027 roles are open, and more will follow through February. Apply to what fits now, and build proof while you wait: a remote Externship gives you a finished project to present, just like Insmed's interns do at the end of the summer.
