Last updated: October 2026
DENSO's summer 2027 US internship is open now, and it's one requisition for five sites. The DENSO College Program posting went live on September 14, 2026 and was still active on October 25, covering Southfield and Battle Creek in Michigan, Maryville and Athens in Tennessee, and Statesville in North Carolina. DENSO states a starting wage of $25 an hour, and the rules are strict: Junior or Senior status, a 3.0 cumulative GPA, 40 hours a week, and unlimited US work authorization with no sponsorship now or in the future. In plain words, you apply during 2026 and intern in summer 2027. One trap: the Apply buttons on DENSO's Students page still point to an older requisition that returns no record, so use the live requisition. This guide covers DENSO International America and its US plants.

DENSO has one open student requisition, covering five US sites, with no stated closing date, so apply this month through the live requisition and not the old link on the Students page.
Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most commonly over 8 weeks at 5 to 10 hours a week. The Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics Externship builds the continuous-improvement and supply chain analysis DENSO's plant roles describe, and the Breaking Games SQL & Database Architecture Externship matches its SQL Server database role. What Is a DENSO Internship?
A DENSO internship is the DENSO College Program, a paid US summer internship and co-op at DENSO International America, the North American headquarters of DENSO, and at DENSO's US manufacturing affiliates. DENSO International America is based in Southfield, Michigan and was established in 1985 per its company page; the plants in Battle Creek, Maryville, Athens and Statesville hire for the same requisition. The Students page promises that interns "lead a full-cycle automotive project" with hands-on training and mentoring, and the requisition opens with "Crafting solutions to power Green, Safe & Seamless mobility." DENSO publishes no class size. Its programs in Japan and elsewhere are outside this guide.

When Do DENSO Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
DENSO posts the College Program as one requisition. The summer 2027 posting went live on September 14, 2026, and DENSO's start dates aren't published, so we can't give a lead time. The Students page links an older requisition that was still referenced in captures from June 2025 to April 2026, which suggests DENSO keeps one posting up for most of a year, but we couldn't recover its original posting date. Plan on the current requisition being the only door for summer 2027.
The summer 2027 requisition has been open since September 14, 2026 and states no end date. It was one student requisition out of 112 on DENSO's board on October 25.
Interviews and offers: dates aren't published. DENSO's process page says its recruitment team schedules an interview if you're selected, and the most qualified candidate receives the offer.
No spring 2027 co-op requisition was posted on October 25. A student post from October 2024 describes a spring co-op offer (January to May, 40 hours a week) at DENSO, so ask the recruiter if you need a semester co-op.
Internship start and end dates aren't stated in the requisition, which asks for 40 hours a week. Confirm dates and relocation support in your offer.
Expected, low confidence: a summer 2028 requisition, projected from this year's September 14 posting. We found only one documented posting date.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
DENSO states no deadline, which is the risk: a single requisition can close for all five sites at once, and DENSO says the most qualified candidate is selected for the offer. We can't tell how long this posting stays open. The previous requisition appears to have been linked from the Students page for about ten months, but we have no close date for it. The other trap is the old link. Applicants who click Apply on the Students page land on a requisition that returns no record, so use requisition 25432 on DENSO's Oracle site. Apply this month, and don't wait for fall career-fair season to end.
Which DENSO Internship Programs Should You Target?
The requisition lists these role types. You choose by degree, and the Supply Chain Analyst is Maryville only.
| Track | Focus | Eligible majors | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engineering design (Product, Process, Tester Design) | New product introduction, machine specifications, supplier selection, automated test equipment | All engineering majors; Tester Design requires electrical engineering | LabVIEW, PLC logic, robots and vision systems, C, C++, PFMEA |
| Quality (Supplier Quality, Quality Assurance) | Supplier and customer problem investigation, test plans for new models and engineering changes | All engineering majors | Test planning, project management, root-cause analysis |
| Industrial Engineer / Continuous Improvement | Kaizen projects and Toyota Production System coaching across DENSO sites | Industrial engineering | TPS, data capture, facilitation |
| Software and Database | Production software applications; SQL Server database administration | Computer science or similar | C#, Visual Studio, MVC, Entity Framework; SQL Server |
| Supply Chain Analyst (Maryville only) | Production control, parts shortages, inventory control, localization of parts | Supply chain or business management | Excel, inventory control, customer negotiation support |
| Business (Accounting/Finance, Sales) | Journal entries, reconciliations, tooling records; customer liaison and quoting | Accounting, finance, business or engineering | Microsoft Office, cost analysis |
Read the requisition for the full role descriptions. DENSO's Students page lists only engineering and computer science majors, but the requisition also names business and supply chain, so the requisition governs.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
DENSO states its rules plainly in requisition 25432.
• Class year: Junior or Senior university classification.
• GPA: cumulative 3.0 or higher.
• Work authorization: "Now and in the future, must have unlimited authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship."
• Age and hours: 18 or older and willing to work 40 hours a week during the internship or co-op.
• Skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio), strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to work in groups and independently and to travel.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff?
DENSO lists it as a qualification, not a preference, and doesn't publish an exception policy. Students below 3.0 can still apply, but the requisition states the line plainly, so you'd be asking a recruiter to look past it. If your GPA is close, apply with a strong project and name the relevant coursework in your resume. The work authorization line has no flexibility: it rules out students who'd need sponsorship at any point.
What Skills Does DENSO Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
The requisition names tools by role. Engineering roles ask for LabVIEW, PLC logic, robots, cobots and vision systems, and PFMEA documentation; Tester Design lists C, C++, Delphi, LabVIEW and TestExec. The software role wants C# with Visual Studio, Webforms, MVC and Entity Framework, and the database role wants SQL Server. Across every role, DENSO asks for Microsoft Office, communication, teamwork and project management. Industrial engineering adds Toyota Production System and kaizen.
Note: DENSO posts one requisition for all roles, so there's no set of job descriptions to count skills across. The tools above are quoted from that single requisition on October 25, 2026.
How Is Demand for Mechanical Engineering Interns Moving Right Now?
Mechanical engineering intern postings · Sep vs Aug 2026

For DENSO applicants: DENSO had one student requisition open on its board of 112 openings on October 25, 2026, covering five US sites and many disciplines, so apply to it directly rather than waiting for a role-specific posting.
Daily US job-posting counts, Sep 1–30 vs Aug 1–31, 2026. Covers under half of US postings; shows direction, not market size. Pay = median of employer-published ranges only (87 postings in September, 36 in August).
Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each row maps a skill from the DENSO requisition to a remote Externship that produces a finished project.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| SQL Server and database administration | Database Administrator: "Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments" | Breaking Games SQL & Database Architecture |
| Continuous improvement and TPS | Industrial Engineer/Continuous Improvement Specialist: kaizen projects and Toyota Production System coaching | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Supply chain and inventory control | Supply Chain Analyst: "Engages in inventory control to meet numerical targets and ensure accuracy" | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Accounting and financial analysis | Accounting/Finance Specialist: journal entries, reconciliations and financial reporting | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis and Private Company Valuation |
None of these Externships is affiliated with DENSO. Most run about 8 weeks, so one started in November can finish well before a summer start.
What Is the DENSO Application and Interview Process Like?
DENSO publishes a four-step process on its Students page.
1. Get to know us. DENSO attends university career fairs, so meet the team there if it visits your campus.
2. Build your profile and apply. Use requisition 25432 on DENSO's Oracle careers site, not the older link on the Students page.
3. Interview. If you're selected to move forward, DENSO's recruitment team schedules an interview. The number of rounds and any assessments aren't published.
4. Offer. After interviews conclude, the most qualified candidate is selected for the offer, and onboarding begins before your start date.
What Students on Reddit Say
Community discussion of DENSO's US program is thin. We found one usable Reddit thread.
A University of Tennessee student who accepted a spring co-op at DENSO (January to May, 40 hours a week) asked whether a semester gap was worth it. A commenter said DENSO experiences vary with your major and work style: some people loved it and several didn't, and co-ops generally make full-time hiring easier.
How Do You Stand Out for a DENSO Internship?
First, check the hard lines before you invest: a 3.0 GPA, Junior or Senior standing and no-sponsorship work authorization. Second, pick the role that fits your major and mirror its tools, such as LabVIEW and PLC logic for process design, C# for software or PFMEA for quality. Third, show you can work a 40-hour week at a plant: a co-op, a manufacturing job or a team build project counts. DENSO says interns can move into full-time roles but doesn't publish applicant counts or a conversion rate.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 DENSO internship?
No. Summer 2026 internships have ended. DENSO's live student requisition is for Summer 2027, posted September 14, 2026, and it was still open on October 25. It has no stated end date, so apply this month to the DENSO College Program through requisition 25432 on DENSO's Oracle careers site.
When do DENSO summer 2027 internship applications open?
They opened on September 14, 2026, when DENSO posted the Summer 2027 College Program requisition. It states no closing date. We found only one documented posting date, so a summer 2028 requisition around September 2027 is a low-confidence projection. Check the requisition page every week for changes.
How much do DENSO interns make?
DENSO's requisition states a starting wage of $25 an hour, with increases based on previous experience. The Students page mentions competitive wages and relocation support but gives no amount. We haven't used pay figures from job boards or Reddit, because they aren't confirmed as DENSO's.
Who is eligible for the DENSO College Program?
Juniors and seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, aged 18 or older, willing to work 40 hours a week and holding unlimited US work authorization without sponsorship, now and in the future. The role list covers engineering, computer science, supply chain and business majors.
Does DENSO sponsor visas for interns?
No. The requisition says that now and in the future you must have unlimited authorization to work in the US without sponsorship. That rules out students who'd need an employer to sponsor work authorization at any point, and the requisition doesn't mention exceptions, so international students should read it carefully before applying.
Where are DENSO's US internships located?
The single requisition lists Southfield and Battle Creek in Michigan, Maryville and Athens in Tennessee, and Statesville in North Carolina. Southfield is the primary location. The Supply Chain Analyst role is Maryville only. The roles are on-site, and travel may be required.
Does DENSO offer co-ops as well as summer internships?
The requisition says internship or co-op, and a student post from October 2024 describes a spring co-op offer. But the only student requisition live on October 25, 2026 was the summer one. If you want a semester co-op, ask the recruiter before applying.
Can DENSO interns become full-time employees?
DENSO lists opportunities for conversion to full-time employment after graduation on its Students page and in the requisition. It doesn't publish a conversion rate or class size. A student on Reddit said co-ops generally make full-time hiring easier at the company you work for.
DENSO's summer 2027 requisition is open now and states no closing date. Apply this month through requisition 25432, and if you want a finished project to discuss, a remote Externship can wrap up before a summer start.
