Copart runs the online auctions that insurers use to sell totaled and used vehicles, and it reported $4.7 billion in revenue for the year ended 31 July 2026 across more than 250 locations in 11 countries. Most of that auction software is built in-house at its Dallas headquarters, and that's where every Copart internship on the board sits. On 3 October 2026 Copart's own Workday board listed 17 US intern openings, all technology roles in Dallas: software engineering, data and AI, QA automation, product analytics, databases, site reliability, security and field IT. Here's the cycle in plain words: there's no summer season to wait for. Copart posts and closes intern roles all year, and three of the reqs that were live on 28 September had already closed by 3 October.
What Is a Copart Internship?
A Copart internship is a paid, full-time technology role at Copart's world headquarters in Dallas, Texas, posted individually on its Workday board rather than as one summer class. Copart's internships page says most of its technology is built in-house and that it recruits interns in and around the Dallas metroplex while welcoming upcoming or recent graduates from across the US. Interns join teams that run the auction platform: Java and Spring services, AI features built on LLM APIs, test automation, database work on MariaDB and DB2, and monitoring for Copart's data centers. Copart, Inc. (NASDAQ: CPRT) was founded in 1982 and reported about 11,600 employees in its fiscal 2025 annual report. The roles don't carry a program name, a cohort label or a published length.

When Do Copart Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Copart doesn't open a single window. Its intern reqs carry no season, start date or deadline, and they open and close one at a time: archived reqs show intern postings in February, March, May, June, July, August, September and December 2025, and in January, February, May and July to September 2026. Posting dates also get refreshed, so "posted 8 days ago" can mean an old req re-stamped rather than a new wave. The only dated pattern for summer roles is a cluster of software intern posts from late March to May 2025, which is why we expect some reqs that start around summer 2027 to appear ~March to May 2027. That projection rests on one year and is low confidence.
Applications are open right now: 17 US intern reqs at the Dallas headquarters, across software engineering, data and AI, product analytics, QA, databases, site reliability, security and field IT. Two software reqs and a network engineering req that were live on 28 September closed by 3 October, so don't sit on a match.
Expect reqs to keep opening and closing one by one. In 2025, intern reqs were posted in August, September and December, and each closed on its own schedule. Check the board weekly and apply in the first days a matching req appears.
More reqs are expected: product design intern reqs appeared in January and February 2026. Some roles posted now may still be in interviews.
Software intern reqs that start around summer 2027 are expected, projected from the late March to May 2025 cluster. Low confidence: it's one year of data.
Start dates and length aren't published. Expect a full-time, on-site role in Dallas. Copart doesn't publish a conversion rate, so ask about full-time paths in your interviews.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Copart's mode is rolling, and the evidence comes from its own board. None of the 17 live reqs states a closing date, yet reqs vanish without warning: on 3 October, Workday's machine endpoint returned "permission denied" for three intern reqs that were live five days earlier, which is how Workday marks a req that existed and has closed. A Technology Product Analyst req posted in August 2026 had closed within weeks. We counted 34 intern reqs opened between March 2025 and September 2026 that are already gone. So the right move is to apply in the first week a matching req appears, and to apply to the specific req rather than waiting for a season that doesn't come.
Which Copart Internship Programs Should You Target?
Every live Copart intern req is a technology role, and several share one title with different stacks, so read the body before you apply.
| Track | Focus | Live reqs | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Software Engineering Intern | Full-stack features on the auction platform; some reqs are AI-first | 6 | Java, Spring Boot, SQL, React or Angular, JUnit; LLM APIs on two reqs |
| Data & AI Intern | LLM features, RAG pipelines and AI services | 1 | Python, SQL, vector databases, LangChain or Spring AI |
| Technology Product Analyst Intern | KPIs, dashboards and feature analytics | 3 | SQL, Mixpanel or Google Analytics, Tableau |
| QA Engineering Intern | Test automation for UI, APIs and data pipelines | 2 | Java, SQL, Playwright, CI tools |
| Infrastructure and security | Database, Site Reliability, Vulnerability Management and Field Engineering interns | 5 | Python, SQL, Ansible, Datadog, networking basics |
Search all openings on Copart's Workday board and read the program overview on the internships page. A Network Engineering Intern req that accepted CCNA progress in place of a degree closed between 28 September and 3 October.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Copart sets requirements req by req, so check the qualifications block on the one you want:
• Degree level: most reqs ask for a student pursuing a bachelor's or higher in computer science, AI, engineering or a quantitative field.
• Master's-only reqs: two frontend Software Engineering Intern reqs require a master's program in computer science with a minimum 3.5 GPA, and one Technology Product Analyst req asks for a master's student or recent graduate.
• Recent graduates: eligible on some reqs, and the internships page says Copart welcomes upcoming or recent college graduates.
• Location and hours: on-site in Dallas and classed full time; a 2025 software req asked for 40 hours a week.
• Work authorization: no live req states a sponsorship policy. Each says Copart takes part in E-Verify, so ask the recruiter before you rely on sponsorship.

Is the 3.5 GPA a Hard Cutoff?
Only on two reqs. The 3.5 minimum appears on the two master's-level frontend Software Engineering Intern reqs and nowhere else among the 17 live roles. The other reqs don't publish a GPA, so a bachelor's student below 3.5 should aim at the AI-first software, Data & AI, QA, database, site reliability and security reqs and let projects carry the application.

What Skills Does Copart Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Copart's live reqs read like engineering job descriptions, not generic intern ads. Three groups stand out. Core engineering: Java with Spring Boot, SQL and stored procedures, and JUnit appear across the software and QA reqs. AI work: the Data & AI req and two software reqs ask for LLM APIs, RAG, prompt engineering and vector databases, and one software req asks interns to "think/code with AI first approach" and names AI coding assistants. Communication: 14 of 17 reqs ask for written and verbal communication, and the site reliability req wants clear updates to stakeholders during incidents.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each skill below comes from a live Copart req and maps to a remote Externship you can finish while you apply.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| SQL, schema design & stored procedures | Database Engineering Intern: "write SQL code to support the creation of tables" on MariaDB, MySQL and DB2 | Breaking Games SQL Database Architecture |
| LLM features & AI automation | Data & AI Intern and two Software Engineering reqs: LLM APIs, RAG, prompt engineering, LangChain or Spring AI | Wayfair n8n AI Agent Engineering |
| Security & vulnerability work | Vulnerability Management Engineering Intern: scan orchestration, remediation tracking, NIST and CIS frameworks | Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense |
| Product metrics & KPIs | Technology Product Analyst Intern: define KPIs and build dashboards on feature usage | BeReal Product Management |
Pick the Externship that matches the req you're applying to, not the one that sounds closest to Copart's business. A finished SQL schema or a working AI agent gives you a concrete answer when an interviewer asks what you've built.
What Is the Copart Application and Interview Process Like?
Copart doesn't publish its interview format. This is what the reqs and the few community reports show:
1. Find the exact req. Six reqs are titled Software Engineering Intern but ask for different stacks: AI-first Java and Spring with LLM APIs, Java and Spring with Angular, or a React frontend that needs a master's program. Match your resume to one.
2. Apply on Workday. Each req has a short questionnaire and parses your resume, so keep the stack words from the req in plain text.
3. Technical interview. One Reddit commenter described Copart's backend software interview as straightforward. Expect questions on the stack named in your req, such as Java, SQL or Python.
4. Offer. Offers are made req by req. Ask about the start date and length during the process, since neither is in the posting.
Because the process isn't documented, prepare from the req body: the skills it lists are the ones you'll be asked about. Our HireVue question guide with a free AI mock tool is useful practice for behavioral answers.
What the Community Says
Public discussion of Copart internships is thin. These are the first-hand reports we could verify.
During a rough 2023–24 internship search, one student said they applied to roughly 700 openings, got four calls and came away with a Copart offer for a software-type internship.
Asked about Copart's backend software engineer technical round, the one person who replied said it was straightforward and not too difficult. The thread doesn't say whether that was an intern or a full-time interview.
Software engineering intern reviews from Dallas are mixed: one 2024 reviewer said the pay was good for Dallas but the internship wouldn't convert to full time, while another, still there after more than a year, praised the work and the learning.
How Do You Stand Out for a Copart Tech Internship?
Three moves. First, apply to one req, not a title. Read the qualifications and tailor your resume to that stack, because the six Software Engineering Intern reqs want different things. Second, show AI work you've actually built. The 2026 reqs ask for LLM APIs, RAG and an "AI first" coding habit, so a small app that calls a model API or a retrieval pipeline you can explain beats a list of courses. Third, show you understand what Copart sells. It runs online vehicle auctions for insurers, dealers and the public, so a line about why auction data, vehicle images or real-time bidding interests you shows real intent. Copart doesn't publish an applicant count or a conversion rate, so treat the offer as the goal and ask about full-time paths once you're in.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Copart internship?
Not as a summer 2026 class, because Copart doesn't run one. It posts and closes tech intern roles all year, and on 3 October 2026 its Workday board had 17 US intern openings at the Dallas headquarters with no deadlines. Start dates aren't published, so ask the recruiter when a role would begin.
When should I apply for a Copart internship for summer 2027?
Apply to a live req now if one fits, because Copart's reqs roll all year and close without notice. If you want a summer start, keep checking the board: in 2025 several software intern reqs went up between late March and May, so expect some around March to May 2027. That projection is low confidence.
Does Copart review intern applications on a rolling basis?
Yes. None of the 17 live reqs lists a closing date, and reqs close individually as they fill. Three that were live on 28 September 2026 had closed by 3 October. Apply in the first days a matching req appears rather than waiting for a season or a published deadline.
Do I need to be a master's student or have a 3.5 GPA?
Not for most roles. Most reqs accept students pursuing a bachelor's or higher. Two frontend Software Engineering Intern reqs require a master's program and a 3.5 GPA, and one Technology Product Analyst req asks for a master's student or recent graduate. The other reqs don't publish a GPA.
What is the Copart internship interview like?
Copart doesn't publish its format. One Reddit commenter called the backend software technical round straightforward, though it isn't clear whether that was an intern interview. Prepare from your req: expect questions on its named stack, such as Java and Spring, SQL or Python, plus your projects and teamwork.
Does Copart hire interns full-time?
Copart doesn't publish a conversion rate. One former software engineering intern wrote in a 2024 review that the internship wouldn't convert to full time, while another was still there after more than a year. Treat conversion as uncertain and ask about full-time paths during your interviews.
What skills should I highlight for Copart?
Written communication, SQL and the stack your req names. Across the 17 live reqs, 14 ask for communication skills, 10 for SQL and 10 for JavaScript, React or Angular. AI-first software and Data & AI reqs also want LLM APIs, RAG and Python, so show something you've built with them.
How much do Copart interns make?
Copart doesn't publish intern pay. None of the 17 live reqs states a rate, Texas has no pay-transparency law, and the internships page gives no figure. The roles are paid and classed full time, and some reqs list medical benefits, so ask the recruiter for the rate before you accept.
Copart's Dallas tech reqs are open now and close one at a time. Apply to the one that fits this week, and if you want a finished project to talk through in the interview, a remote Externship takes about 5 to 10 hours a week.
