Last updated: October 2026

BerryDunn has 22 internship postings open right now, and every one of them pays the same flat rate: $30 an hour. On October 12, 2026, the firm's careers board listed four spring 2027 internships and 18 summer 2027 internships. Most of them aren't accounting roles. Fifteen are summer consulting internships in areas such as Medicaid, health policy, cybersecurity, justice, and parks and recreation. The rest are audit, tax, outsourced accounting and technology assurance.

In plain words: BerryDunn says it typically posts internships in August. The summer 2027 session runs May 25 to August 6, 2027, and it's open now. If you want something sooner, the spring 2027 session runs January 5 to April 16, 2027, and it's open too. No posting prints a deadline.

What Is a BerryDunn Internship?

A BerryDunn internship is a paid, in-person position at BerryDunn, an assurance, tax and consulting firm founded in 1974 and headquartered in Portland, Maine. The firm describes itself as "a member of the Top 50 US accounting firms, and the largest headquartered in New England." Its clients include businesses, nonprofits and government agencies, and much of its consulting work is for the public sector. Interns join one practice for a dated session, either spring (January to April) or summer (late May to early August). Vault ranks the program #29 on its 2026 Best Accounting Internships list and lists the class at 51 to 100 interns. The consulting side is what sets it apart from most accounting firms: 15 of the 22 open postings are consulting internships, each tied to a named practice group.

When Do BerryDunn Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

BerryDunn's internships page says "Internship opportunities are typically posted in August on our careers page." The board itself doesn't show a reliable posting date for this cycle's roles, so August is the firm's stated pattern, not a date we measured. What the postings do print is the program calendar: spring 2027 runs "from January 5, 2027 through April 16, 2027" and summer 2027 runs "from May 25, 2027 through August 6, 2027". That makes the lead time about four and a half months for spring and about nine months for summer. Postings for spring 2028 and summer 2028 are expected in August 2027, on the strength of that statement and this one dated cycle.

August 2026

BerryDunn says its internships are typically posted in August. This cycle's postings cover both the spring 2027 and the summer 2027 sessions.

Now · mid-October 2026YOU ARE HEREROLLING — APPLY WEEK 1

Applications are open for 4 spring 2027 internships and 18 summer 2027 internships. No posting prints a closing date. A summer 2027 tax internship and Portland audit and tax internships aren't listed as of October 12, 2026.

Apply first. Then build something to talk about: the TruBridge Healthcare Data Analytics Externship fits the Medicaid and health tracks, and the Lean Startup Co. Corporate Strategy Externship fits consulting in general.
January 5 to April 16, 2027

The spring 2027 session runs: audit in Bangor, tax in Bangor and Manchester, and outsourced accounting across four offices. Audit and tax interns work at least 24 hours a week over three days.

May 25 to August 6, 2027

The summer 2027 session runs for all 18 summer postings. Career Discovery Days, a two-day visit to the Portland headquarters, was held in late May in 2026; a 2027 edition hasn't been announced.

August 2027EXPECTEDROLLING — APPLY WEEK 1

Postings for the spring 2028 and summer 2028 internships are expected, following the firm's stated August pattern.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

BerryDunn doesn't publish a deadline, so we read its hiring as rolling, and that's our reading, not the firm's word. None of the 22 postings prints a closing date. The only timing statement is that roles are typically posted in August, which means these have likely been open for weeks. The structure adds pressure. Each consulting practice has its own posting, and where a track exists in two offices, each office has its own. Some of those postings may be a single seat. Once a practice fills its posting it can come down, and the board can't tell you afterward whether a missing track was filled or never offered. Spring starts January 5, so those four postings are the most urgent.

Which BerryDunn Internship Programs Should You Target?

BerryDunn's 22 postings fall into six groups. Consulting interns are hired by a named practice group, so read the posting for the practice you want.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Requirements differ by track, but three rules appear on every posting:

• Transcript: all 22 postings say you must include your unofficial academic transcript with your application to be considered.

• Work authorization: "Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future." All 22 postings say it.

• GPA: no posting states a minimum GPA.

• Audit: "Currently enrolled as a student in an Accounting or related business program", available at least 24 hours a week over three business days.

• Tax: "Completed Federal Income Tax course", available at least 24 hours a week, preferably three full days.

• Consulting: majors vary by practice. Cybersecurity asks for cybersecurity, information systems, computer science or IT. Government procurement names political science, business administration or public policy. Healthcare data wants quantitative coursework.

• Class year: not stated on the postings.

Does BerryDunn Have a GPA Cutoff?

Not a published one. We searched all 22 postings and none mentions a GPA. That doesn't mean grades are ignored, because every posting requires your transcript and says you won't be considered without it. So the firm sees your grades and your coursework either way. The published gates are different ones: the right major or course for the track, the hours for audit and tax, and work authorization with no sponsorship now or later. For tax, the federal income tax course is a stated requirement, so finish it before the session starts.

What Skills Does BerryDunn Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

The requirement that shows up most is communication: 21 of the 22 postings ask for it, and 19 specify written communication. Twelve name teamwork or relationship building, and ten name Excel. After that the tracks split. Audit and tax postings promise training on CaseWare trial balance and workpaper software and on Depreciation Solution Software, and the tax postings add tax return software and returns such as the 1040, 1120 and 1065. Consulting asks vary by practice: the cybersecurity posting mentions NIST and CIS Controls as helpful, and the healthcare data posting calls Microsoft SQL Server or SAS experience a plus.

Build These Skills Before You Apply

Each BerryDunn track maps to a remote Externship that gives you a finished project to discuss, which helps most on the consulting side where interviews ask why this practice.

What Is the BerryDunn Application and Interview Process Like?

BerryDunn's own description is brief: selected candidates "may be invited to interviews and conversations with our team." Interns surveyed by Vault describe more steps, especially for consulting:

1. Apply to one posting. Choose the track and office, and attach your unofficial transcript. Accounting-side interns also mention a resume and cover letter.

2. Recorded video interview. Consulting interns report starting with a recorded HireVue interview.

3. Panel interviews. Most describe two rounds on Zoom. One says the first round was candidate-led and tougher, and the second was closer to a networking conversation.

4. Assessment. Several consulting interns mention a personality test.

5. Offer. Consulting interns describe an offer call with a principal. BerryDunn says chosen candidates then receive details and onboarding support.

Accounting-side interns describe a simpler process and an interview that wasn't hard. Reported questions: tell me about yourself, walk me through your resume, why consulting, why BerryDunn. Our behavioral interview guide covers that format.

What the Community Says

Reddit has no threads about BerryDunn's internship, so three of these cards come from Vault's 2026 intern survey. The fourth is a 2022 Reddit thread about full-time staff.

Consulting interns describe a recorded video interview, two rounds of Zoom panel interviews and a personality test, then an offer call with a principal. One said the first round was the harder one.

About full-time staff, not interns: a commenter with close to a decade on the consulting side called the experience great and said their group has low turnover, while noting practices vary. Others, speaking second-hand, described heavy travel and long hours for consultants.

How Do You Stand Out for a BerryDunn Internship?

Three moves. First, apply to the exact practice you want. There are 22 separate postings, and a public policy, political science, computer science or health administration major each has a consulting posting that fits. A generic application to the wrong practice wastes your one shot at that seat. Second, learn the public sector. One surveyed intern's advice was that most of the work is for public-sector clients and that knowing how government works makes the start easier. If you're aiming at Medicaid or procurement, read up on the basics first. Third, don't skip the transcript. The postings say you won't be considered without it. BerryDunn doesn't publish an applicant count or a conversion rate. Five consulting postings say ongoing employment may follow "depending on business need", and two entry-level consultant roles are on the same board.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2027 BerryDunn internship?

Yes. On October 12, 2026, BerryDunn's careers board listed 18 summer 2027 internships: 15 in consulting, two in audit and one in technology assurance. The summer session runs May 25 to August 6, 2027, and no posting prints a deadline. A summer 2027 tax internship wasn't listed on that date.

When do BerryDunn internship applications open?

BerryDunn says internship opportunities are typically posted in August on its careers page, for the following spring and summer. That's about four and a half months before the spring session starts in early January and about nine months before the summer session starts in late May. Postings for spring 2028 and summer 2028 are expected in August 2027.

How much do BerryDunn interns get paid?

BerryDunn interns are paid $30 an hour. All 22 internship postings state the same flat rate, with no range and no difference between Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Hawaii or between accounting and consulting tracks. Interns surveyed by Vault report 40-hour weeks with no overtime unless they were traveling.

Is there an application deadline for the BerryDunn internship?

None is printed. We read all 22 internship postings and found no closing date, and the firm states only that roles are typically posted in August. In practice each practice group hires for its own posting, so a posting can come down once that seat is filled. Spring 2027 starts January 5.

What internships does BerryDunn offer?

Audit, tax, outsourced accounting and technology assurance on the accounting side, plus 15 consulting internships. The consulting tracks cover Medicaid, Medicaid policy, health policy analysis, health and human services, healthcare data, cybersecurity, digital transformation, government procurement, justice, management and IT, organizational development, and parks, recreation and libraries.

How many hours do BerryDunn interns work?

It depends on the track. Consulting internships are full-time for the summer session, and some postings call it a 10-week program. Audit and tax interns must be available at least 24 hours a week over three business days, and the audit postings mention opportunities for 40 hours during the summer session.

Does BerryDunn sponsor visas for interns?

No. Every one of the 22 internship postings says you must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. International students who will need sponsorship later, including after graduation, should read that line before applying.

What is the BerryDunn internship interview process like?

Consulting interns surveyed by Vault describe a recorded video interview, two rounds of Zoom panel interviews, a personality test and an offer call with a principal. Accounting-side interns describe a simpler process: resume, cover letter and transcript, then an interview they say wasn't difficult. Expect why consulting and why BerryDunn.

BerryDunn's 22 spring and summer 2027 postings are open with no printed deadline, so apply to your practice this month. For the interviews, a remote Externship gives you a finished healthcare data, security or strategy project to talk about.
