Last updated: October 2026
Atrium Health's summer 2027 internship applications are open now and close on 12 November 2026. Atrium is part of Advocate Health, which runs the program for all its brands, and its program page says applications are open "from October 12 through November 12, 2026". On 26 October 2026 its Workday board listed nine college requisitions, six at Atrium sites in Macon, Rome, Winston-Salem and Charlotte and three at Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin. They're non-clinical administration, IT and community relations roles that run 31 May to 6 August 2027 and pay $21 an hour for undergraduates and $23 for graduate students. In plain words: you apply this fall, you intern in summer 2027.
Quick Facts
| Fact | Detail |
|---|---|
| Where to apply | Advocate Health Summer Internship Program page, then the Advocate Health Workday board, where each site posts its own requisition (search "Enterprise Internship"). Questions: SummerInternships@advocatehealth.org |
| Application window (2027–28) | Summer 2027: 12 October to 12 November 2026 (Workday end date 13 November). The summer 2026 window on Atrium's own page was 26 January to 6 February 2026, and summer 2025 ran 3 February to 30 May 2025, so the timing moved to fall this year. Summer 2028 is expected around October to November 2027, low confidence |
| Rolling? | No. A one-month window with a stated end date |
| Eligibility | College undergraduates (freshman to senior standing as of Fall 2027) and graduate students; graduate requisitions want a healthcare administration master's, preferably CAHME accredited. No experience required. GPA and work authorization rules aren't stated in the postings we read |
| Duration | 10 weeks, 31 May to 6 August 2027, up to 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday business hours, on site |
| Compensation | $21.00 an hour for undergraduate requisitions and $23.00 for graduate ones, from the Workday postings. Roughly $8,400 and $9,200 before tax over 10 weeks at 40 hours (our arithmetic) |
| Return offers | Not published. Advocate Health's page says interns can continue through future internships, employment pathways and the Administrative Fellowship |
| Locations | Atrium Health sites in Macon and Rome, Georgia, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina, plus Charlotte for graduate students; Aurora Health Care sites in Wisconsin. On site, with one Milwaukee posting hybrid |
| # Programs | Four non-clinical college tracks, a separate nurse externship, a graduate-only fellowship and a high school program (not covered here) |
The window is a single month and closes 12 November 2026, so apply to the site that matches you now; the nurse externship and graduate fellowship are separate programs with their own rules.
Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most commonly over 8 weeks at 5 to 10 hours a week, so one can run alongside your Atrium application. Atrium also uses the word "externship" for its own paid clinical program for nursing students, which is a different thing. The Institute of Mental Health Healthcare Operations & Consulting Externship matches the administration track, and the ARCeH Data Analytics, Health Outcomes Externship fits health data work. What Is an Atrium Health Internship?
An Atrium Health internship is a paid, 10-week summer program run by Advocate Health, the nonprofit system that includes Atrium Health, Aurora Health Care and Advocate Health Care. The program page calls it a "project-based experience" in which undergraduate and graduate students work on strategic healthcare initiatives with mentors and senior leaders. This guide leads with the non-clinical roles in health care administration, IT and community relations. Nursing students have a separate externship, and clinical rotations for medical and allied health students are arranged through their schools.

When Do Atrium Health Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Atrium's summer 2027 window opened 12 October 2026 and closes 12 November 2026, about seven months before the 31 May start. That's a big shift. Atrium's own student page, seen in Wayback captures, listed 3 February to 30 May 2025 for summer 2025 and 26 January to 6 February 2026 for summer 2026. The program now sits under Advocate Health and the window moved to fall, so one year of evidence is the only basis for expecting fall timing again. The student page on Atrium's site still says the summer program is closed and wasn't updated for this cycle; the Advocate Health page governs.
Applications are open for summer 2027 and close in 17 days. Nine college requisitions were live on the Advocate Health Workday board on 26 October 2026. Pick the site and level that match you: each requisition is local, and Charlotte has a graduate posting only.
The window closes. Advocate Health's page says applications run "through November 12, 2026", and the Workday postings carry a 13 November end date. Nurse externship applications close earlier, on 6 November.
Selection. Advocate Health doesn't publish its interview or offer schedule. Expect to hear from the site you applied to, and confirm your availability for the full 31 May to 6 August term.
The 10-week internship runs on site Monday to Friday, with mentorship, "Inside the Profession Fridays" and project work for senior leaders.
Expected, low confidence: the summer 2028 window, if fall timing repeats. The two earlier cycles opened in winter, so it could return to January or February 2028. Check the Advocate Health page in September.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
This is a hard deadline, not a rolling review. Advocate Health gives a single window from 12 October to 12 November 2026, and each site posts its own requisition with the same end date. With nine college postings across seven sites, an applicant who waits for a reminder can lose a local posting entirely. Gather your resume, transcript and availability now and apply to your closest site before the date, rather than the last day.
Which Atrium Health Internship Programs Should You Target?
These are the college tracks on the Advocate Health board on 26 October 2026, with the separate nurse externship and graduate fellowship labelled. High school requisitions for students 16 and older also exist and aren't covered here.
| Program | Focus | Duration | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Health Care Administration and Operations, undergraduate | Project portfolio, process improvement and strategic planning support. Macon, Rome, Winston-Salem; also Manitowoc, Wisconsin. $21 an hour | 10 weeks (31 May to 6 Aug 2027) | Data collection and analysis, facilitation, presentations |
| Health Care Administration and Operations, graduate | Same work for master's students in healthcare administration, preferably CAHME accredited. Charlotte and Macon. $23 an hour | 10 weeks | Project management, analysis, leadership exposure |
| Information Technology | HRIS and basic IT functions at Macon and West Allis, Wisconsin. $21 an hour | 10 weeks | Systems support, data entry accuracy, Excel |
| Community Relations, Access and Social Impact | Outreach events, nonprofit and school partnerships, social impact metrics. Milwaukee (Aurora). $21 an hour | 10 weeks | Communication, Excel, event coordination |
| Nurse externship (clinical; nursing students only) | Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, Winston-Salem: nine-week paid program for senior nursing students. $20.80 to $31.20 an hour. Applications close 6 November 2026 | 9 weeks (31 May to 31 July 2027) | Nursing coursework, NC Nurse Aide I registry, BLS |
| Administrative Fellowship (graduate-only) | One-year post-graduate leadership fellowship, 7 June 2027 to 2 June 2028, in Charlotte, Chicago, Macon, Milwaukee and Winston-Salem. The 2026 deadline was 1 September 2026 | 12 months | Completed graduate degree; see the fellowship page |
Read the requisition for your site before applying. The Administrative Fellowship page lists its own requirements, and it isn't open to current undergraduates.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Rules come from Advocate Health's program page and the Workday requisitions.
• Undergraduate: enrolled in a four-year degree program with freshman, sophomore, junior or senior standing as of Fall 2027. Degrees named include healthcare leadership or administration, public health, management, nonprofit management and data analytics.
• Graduate: currently enrolled in a graduate program (MBA, MHA, MPP or doctoral on the program page). The graduate requisitions ask for a healthcare administration master's, preferably CAHME accredited.
• Experience: none required.
• Availability: 31 May to 6 August 2027, up to 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, on site.
• GPA and work authorization: not stated in the postings we read, so confirm with SummerInternships@advocatehealth.org.
• Nursing externship: only for senior nursing students and not part of the college program above.

Can You Apply If You Aren't a Health Care Major?
Yes for several tracks. The IT and Community Relations requisitions aren't aimed at clinical majors, and the administration postings list management, public health and data analytics alongside healthcare administration. The graduate postings are narrower and want a healthcare administration degree. Check each requisition's degree line, since the requisition governs over the general program page.
What Skills Does Atrium Health Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Only nine college requisitions are live and many share templated text, so we can't chart skills across them. What the postings share: data collection and analysis, group facilitation and process improvement for the administration tracks, Excel, written and verbal communication and attention to detail for Community Relations, and HRIS and basic IT support for IT. The program page also stresses mentorship and leadership exposure, and Atrium's past projects have included an Epic-based length-of-stay review presented to leadership.
Note: Nine requisitions, most with templated text, are too few for a skill chart that wouldn't overstate any one skill. The postings are summarized above and in the table below. Source: Advocate Health Workday board, 26 October 2026.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each row maps a task from the Atrium and Advocate Health requisitions to a remote Externship that produces a finished project.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Process improvement and operations | Administrative Intern: "study and apply improvement methodologies including data collection and analysis, group facilitation" | Institute of Mental Health Healthcare Operations & Consulting |
| Health data analysis | Administrative Intern: "data collection and analysis"; Community Relations: social impact metrics | ARCeH Data Analytics, Health Outcomes |
| Excel and database skills | Community Relations: Excel proficiency; IT: HRIS and basic IT functions | Breaking Games SQL & Database Architecture |
| Workforce and people analytics | Administrative and IT tracks supporting system operations | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
None of these Externships is affiliated with Atrium Health or Advocate Health. Most run about 8 weeks, so one started in November can finish before spring.
What Is the Atrium Health Application and Interview Process Like?
Advocate Health doesn't publish its selection steps, so this combines its program page with the postings.
1. Pick a site and level. Each requisition is local and either undergraduate or graduate.
2. Apply on the Advocate Health Workday board before 12 November 2026. Use the Apply link on the program page or search "Enterprise Internship".
3. Selection. Interview and offer timing aren't published; contact SummerInternships@advocatehealth.org with questions.
4. Confirm availability. The term is 31 May to 6 August 2027, on site, up to 40 hours a week.
What the Community Says
We found no first-hand Reddit posts from students who did Atrium's or Advocate Health's summer internship; the threads we read are about full-time hiring in Charlotte. Advocate Health's own page quotes a 2026 summer intern who said the experience "blew my mind" and showed a side of health care they hadn't seen.
How Do You Stand Out for an Atrium Health Internship?
First, apply early to the site closest to you and match the degree line on the posting. Second, show project evidence: a process map, a data summary or a dashboard from class work that you can walk through in two minutes, since the work is project-based. Third, be ready to explain why health care administration or community health interests you. Advocate Health publishes no applicant counts or conversion rates, so treat the Administrative Fellowship as a longer-term goal if you're headed to graduate school.

It's a competitive one-year post-graduate leadership fellowship, graduate-only, running 7 June 2027 to 2 June 2028 in five cities. It isn't an internship and isn't open to current undergraduates. Materials for the 2026 cycle were due 1 September 2026, and the program page says interns can prepare for it.
Is Atrium Health the same as Advocate Health?
Atrium Health is a care brand within Advocate Health, which also includes Aurora Health Care and Advocate Health Care. The summer program is run by Advocate Health across these brands, so applications go through the shared Advocate Health Workday board, where each site posts its own requisition.
Atrium Health's summer 2027 window closes on 12 November 2026, so apply to your nearest site now. If you want a finished project to discuss in the interview, a remote Externship can run alongside your application.
