AdventHealth's summer-2027 Leadership Internship is open right now, and it has a firm end date: applications opened on 31 July 2026 and close on Friday, 6 November 2026. The 11-week program places college students in business tracks from hospital operations to IT across a faith-based system of more than 50 hospital campuses in nine states, and the live posting lists $16.79 to $26.86 an hour. In plain words: you apply this fall, you intern in summer 2027.
Nursing students have a separate door that's also open today (3 October 2026): the paid Heritage Nurse Internship 2027, a 10- or 11-week clinical program in Orlando with no stated closing date.

Externships are short, remote project programs run by Extern, not hospital clinical placements. Most run 8 weeks at 5–10 hours a week, so you can start one alongside your application rather than instead of it. The Healthcare Operations Consulting Externship builds the hospital-operations project work Business Management interns do, and the Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis Externship gives finance-track applicants hands-on budgeting and valuation practice. What Is an AdventHealth Internship?
An AdventHealth internship is a paid summer program at a Seventh-day Adventist health system with more than 100,000 caregivers and more than 50 hospital campuses in nine states. There are two, and they're very different.
The Leadership Internship is the business program. For 11 weeks, interns "work side-by-side with our leaders, observe organizational dynamics, participate in meetings and complete project assignments" in one of six expertise areas: Business Management, Finance and Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing and Strategy, or Mission and Ministry. The 2026 FAQ describes a preceptor and intern advisor for each intern, Friday leadership workshops with executives and a closing conference at the Leadership Institute at headquarters. The Heritage Nurse Internship is a clinical role for nursing students that follows a nurse tech job description.

When Do AdventHealth Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
AdventHealth publishes exact dates. The internship and residency programs page says the Leadership Internship application opened on Friday, 31 July 2026 and closes on Friday, 6 November 2026, the window for summer 2027. That's a lead time of about 9.5 months from opening to a mid-May start, and about 6.5 months from the deadline. The Workday posting carries a later posted date (3 September), so go by the program page's dates.
The Heritage Nurse Internship 2027 posting went up on 6 September with no closing date. The post-graduate Leadership Residency, a 3-year program for graduates rather than an internship, closed on 2 October.
Applications are open right now: the Leadership Internship for summer 2027 (closes Friday, 6 November) and the Heritage Nurse Internship 2027 for nursing students. Pick one expertise area and submit this month.
Leadership Internship applications for summer 2027 close. The program page gives no late-entry route, so treat this date as final.
The Heritage Nurse Internship 2027 posting is expected to stay up until the program fills, so apply early. Leadership applicants share location preferences in the application, and placements come with preceptor details.
A spring information session covers onboarding for summer-2027 Leadership interns, followed by a two-day virtual orientation before the start.
The Leadership Internship runs 11 weeks. In 2026, the East Coast cohort was oriented on 19–20 May and the West Coast cohort on 23–24 June. Heritage nurse interns work three 12-hour shifts a week for 10 or 11 weeks.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
The Leadership Internship has a hard deadline, not a rolling one: the program page states one window, 31 July to 6 November 2026, and nothing on it suggests late applications are reviewed. Today you have about five weeks.
The Heritage Nurse Internship works differently. Its posting states no closing date, which usually means it closes when the program fills, so the earlier you apply the more seats are still open. Priority goes to nursing students graduating before June 2027.
Which AdventHealth Internship Programs Should You Target?
Leadership applicants choose one business expertise area; nursing students apply to Heritage instead.
| Track | Focus | Duration | Key requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Management | Hospital operations with senior leaders and service-line directors | 11 weeks | 3.20 GPA, sophomore or higher |
| Finance and Accounting | Budgeting, general accounting, supply analytics; rotations | 11 weeks | Intermediate Accounting completed |
| Information Technology | Infrastructure, cybersecurity, data analytics | 11 weeks | 3.20 GPA, Microsoft Office |
| Marketing and Strategy | Marketing, communications and strategic planning | 11 weeks | Microsoft Publisher preferred for communications rotations |
| Human Resources; Mission and Ministry | People operations; the Wholeness Program and faith-based mission work | 11 weeks | Leadership experience outside class |
| Heritage Nurse Internship (clinical) | Nurse tech duties, shadow shifts, simulations, skills training | 10 or 11 weeks | Nursing school, 3.2 GPA, BLS |
Each expertise area has its own description on the Leadership Internship page.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The Leadership Internship sets five requirements on its program page:
• GPA: minimum 3.20 cumulative.
• Class year: sophomore or higher, working toward an applicable bachelor's degree. The program page also says it's designed for juniors and seniors.
• Experience: leadership in clubs, student government or volunteering, prior work in a professional environment, and team activities that need time management.
• Finance track: Intermediate Accounting completed; intermediate Excel preferred.
• Screening and work authorization: certain Florida positions require a Level 2 background screening with fingerprinting. Neither posting states a work-authorization or sponsorship rule, so ask before you apply if it affects you.

Is the GPA a Hard Cutoff?
Treat it as one. Both the Leadership Internship page and the Heritage posting write the GPA as a minimum (3.20 and 3.2). An old Heritage campaign page still shows a 3.0 floor and $16 an hour for summer 2024; the 2027 posting replaces it.
Above the floor, AdventHealth weighs leadership and work experience, both listed as requirements rather than nice-to-haves. A 3.8 with no activities outside class is a weaker Leadership file than a 3.3 with real responsibility in a club or job.
What Skills Does AdventHealth Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
We read four AdventHealth sources in full: the Leadership Internship page, the CP-Leadership Intern posting, the Heritage Nurse Internship 2027 posting and a live Student Nurse Tech Program posting, the year-round role closest to Heritage.
Three skills appear in three of the four: Microsoft Office and computer skills, customer service, and organization with attention to detail. The business side adds leadership experience, professional work history and teamwork; the nursing side adds vital signs, documentation and patient care basics.

If you reach interviews, a finished project in your chosen expertise area is concrete evidence of the leadership and work experience the program page asks for.
What Is the AdventHealth Application and Interview Process Like?
AdventHealth publishes the program structure but not its interview steps, so here's what is documented:
1. Apply by 6 November. Use the Leadership Internship page to reach the Workday application, choose an expertise area and give your location preferences, which the 2026 FAQ says are collected in the application.
2. Selection. AdventHealth doesn't publish its interview format for the Leadership Internship, so prepare for behavioral questions about leadership, teamwork and why you want healthcare.
3. Placement. Selected interns are matched with a preceptor, who sets rotations, plus an intern advisor.
4. Onboarding. A spring information session, then a two-day virtual orientation before the summer start.
5. Heritage applicants. Apply directly to the Heritage Nurse Internship 2027 posting; a BLS card and at least one completed nursing fundamentals semester are required.
What Students on Reddit Say
Reddit has little on the Leadership Internship itself, but students and employees describe the nursing side, internship outcomes and benefits.
A nursing student hired into an AdventHealth student nurse role said the job looked a lot like a nurse extern or tech position: Foleys, wound care, blood draws and charting, with about a month of training before working alone. Commenters advised asking about patient load before accepting.
A UCF health informatics graduate said they were hired straight out of their internship with AdventHealth, which they called UCF's primary internship partner. Others in the thread added that clinical backgrounds are often preferred for informatics roles.
Former corporate employees explained that paid days off accrue as a share of hours worked and also cover holidays, and said the big Central Florida hospital systems all handle it this way.
How Do You Stand Out for an AdventHealth Internship?
Three moves, all doable before 6 November.
Pick one expertise area and say why. The application asks you to choose among six. A clear reason, such as an accounting course you liked or a club budget you managed, reads better than "open to anything".
Show leadership outside class. AdventHealth lists leadership experience and professional work as requirements. Name the role, the team size and one result.
Take the mission seriously. AdventHealth is a Seventh-day Adventist system with a Mission and Ministry track and a stated mission of "Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ". You don't need to share the faith, but you should be able to talk about whole-person care and why mission-driven healthcare appeals to you. AdventHealth doesn't publish an applicant count or a conversion rate.
