Last updated: October 2026
ASML hasn't posted its US summer 2027 internships yet. On October 3, 2026, its US internship search returned no matches, while all 43 live ASML internships were outside the US, 17 of them in the Netherlands. Last year the first US summer posting went up on September 22, 2025, so this year's wave is running later and could land any week. You apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027. ASML builds the EUV lithography machines used to print the most advanced chips, and its US footprint spans "14 customer support sites, two factories and three R&D centers" (ASML, Working in the US). Its US internship runs about three months at sites including Wilton, Connecticut and San Diego, and archived US postings paid hourly bands of $17 to $57, set by education level.
What Is an ASML Internship?
An ASML internship in the US is a paid, roughly three-month summer engineering placement at ASML, the Dutch company whose lithography systems chipmakers use to pattern microchips. Wilton, Connecticut is ASML's largest US office and its second-largest R&D center worldwide, focused on mechatronics, sensors and optics, while San Diego is "the epicenter for the development and manufacturing of EUV light sources" (ASML). The program page lists networking and intern community events, workshops on professional development and AI productivity tools, volunteer initiatives and final poster presentations. Past interns quoted by ASML came from Purdue, Michigan, UConn, Arizona State, Rice and Illinois, and describe cleanroom work and tools engineers went on to use.

When Do ASML Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
ASML posts its US summer internships one requisition at a time rather than in a single wave. For summer 2026, the first US posting went up on September 22, 2025 (Quality Engineer, Wilton), followed by Reliability on September 30, Mechanical Engineering on October 10, Controls and Automation on October 21, Electrical Engineering on December 8, and a Field Applications Engineer role in Chandler on February 16, 2026. For summer 2025, the first posting came on October 23, 2024. That's a lead time of about 8 months for the earliest postings and as little as 3.5 months for the latest. As of October 3, 2026, no US summer 2027 posting exists, so this cycle is already later than last year's. Treat the windows below as low-to-medium confidence.
Applications for summer 2027 in the US aren't open yet: ASML's US internship search shows no matches, and every live ASML internship is outside the US. Set the US internship job alert today; postings appear one at a time.
Prepare a one-page resume that names your CAD, MATLAB or Python work, practice a HireVue-style video interview, and learn how EUV light is generated.
Applications for summer 2027 expected to open for the first US roles, most likely in Wilton and San Diego, as they did last year. Apply in the first week each posting appears.
Later summer 2027 postings expected (last year's included electrical engineering in December and a Chandler field applications role in February), alongside HireVue and technical interviews for earlier roles.
The internship runs about three months on site, ending with a poster presentation. Some interns continue into a fall co-op.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
ASML's mode is rolling per posting. There's no published program deadline; each US requisition opens on its own date and is taken down individually, and the summer 2026 postings we checked had been taken down by September 2026. Because postings arrive one at a time from fall into February, the risk isn't a single cutoff but missing a role that opens and fills while you're not looking. The job alert is the tool for that: it's the only way to see a Wilton or San Diego posting in its first week. When one matches your discipline, apply that week.
Which ASML Internship Programs Should You Target?
ASML posts US internships by discipline and site. These tracks appeared in the last two cycles' US postings.
| Track | Focus | Site (past postings) | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mechanical Engineering | 3D design and testing of system components | San Diego, CA | 3D CAD (NX preferred), fluid dynamics, heat transfer |
| Controls & Automation | Algorithms for EUV plasma generation, modeling, test-bench validation | San Diego, CA | Control theory, MATLAB, Simulink, Python, C/C++ |
| Electrical Engineering | Electronics for the lithography system and tooling | Wilton, CT | Circuit design, PCB, PSpice/OrCAD, MATLAB, LabVIEW |
| Quality & Reliability | Quality data analysis, reliability engineering | Wilton, CT | Python, statistics, Excel macros, JMP or Minitab |
| FPGA Design Verification | Verification of FPGA designs | San Diego, CA | SystemVerilog UVM, VHDL, Git |
| Field Applications Engineer | Customer-site support (Master's or PhD) | Chandler, AZ | ME, EE, ChemE, physics or data science |
Program details and the co-op option are on ASML's US internships page.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
ASML's US page and its past US postings set these requirements:
• Enrollment: enrolled in a degree program related to ASML's work: engineering, science, business or similar.
• Year: past postings asked for at least two years of coursework completed (Mechanical, Quality) or 2.5 years (Reliability). Some tracks prefer Master's or PhD students.
• Work authorization: "be authorized to work in the United States" (ASML US page). Eight of nine archived US postings we read say you must be eligible to access export-controlled technology before starting work.
• GPA: no minimum appeared in the nine archived US postings we read.
• On site: past postings required in-person presence at the listed site.

Can International Students Get an ASML Internship in the US?
It's difficult. ASML's US postings tie the role to US export-control rules: candidates must be eligible to access controlled technology under the Export Administration Regulations before starting, and the summer 2026 Mechanical Engineering posting asked for work authorization without the need for employer sponsorship. If that rules you out in the US, ASML also recruits interns outside the US on the same global board; 43 were live on October 3, 17 of them in the Netherlands.

What Skills Does ASML Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
With no summer 2027 posting live, the best guide is the last two cycles' US postings. Read nine of them and two layers appear. A shared template: every posting asks you to read and interpret data and documents, work with attention to detail, communicate clearly and own your results. Discipline tools: Python shows up in five, MATLAB in four, and hands-on build, test or troubleshooting work in six. A Reddit commenter advising a Mechanical Design applicant added thermal fluids, solid mechanics and knowing how EUV light is formed.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each skill below maps to a remote Externship you can finish before ASML's US postings go up.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Sensors, controls and connected hardware | Controls & Automation: "combine multiple signal streams"; Wilton sensors and mechatronics | Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense |
| Python and data automation | Python in 5 of 9 postings; Quality: data visualization and machine learning tools | Wayfair n8n AI Agent Engineering |
| Reading and extracting technical documents | All 9 postings: "read and interpret data, information and documents" | Pfizer AI-Powered Document Insights & Data Extraction |
| Data handling and SQL | Quality: MySQL, MS Access, ERP data; Mechanical: "processing and visualizing large data sets" | Breaking Games SQL Database Architecture |
| Operations and supply chain analysis | Past intern projects in production planning and supply chain risk (ASML US page) | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
Externships don't replace engineering coursework, but a finished data or controls project gives you a concrete answer when an ASML interviewer asks what you've built.
What Is the ASML Application and Interview Process Like?
ASML doesn't publish its US interview steps. Here's what its pages and US applicants describe:
1. Apply to a specific posting. Search US internships on asml.com; each posting applies through ASML's Workday board, and ASML doesn't accept open applications.
2. HireVue video interview. Two US applicants reported one; an EHS applicant said it was mostly behavioral, with questions such as how your experience fits the role and what you know about ASML.
3. Technical interview with the team. A commenter told a Mechanical Design applicant that the interview would be technical.
4. Offer. Timing varies by posting; a US PhD applicant was still waiting after a January 2026 HireVue.
Co-op students seeking academic credit apply through their school's co-op advisor as well as the posting.
What Students on Reddit Say
US discussion of ASML internships is thin, but three threads cover the interview and the offer decision.
A US junior preparing for a Mechanical Design intern interview was told to expect a technical round, review thermal fluids and solid mechanics, and learn how ASML generates EUV light. An EHS applicant in the same thread said the HireVue was mostly behavioral.
A US-citizen PhD student applying to California roles for summer 2026 finished the HireVue in January and was still waiting to hear back, and another applicant replied that they were in the same position.
Asked to choose between a Wilton mechatronics internship and SpaceX, most commenters picked ASML for its culture and treatment of employees, while one warned that the debate was partly political and another called the company itself political.
How Do You Stand Out for an ASML Internship?
ASML doesn't publish applicant counts, class size or a conversion rate. Three moves help when the postings arrive. First, apply by discipline and site: Wilton postings lean toward mechatronics, sensors, optics and electronics, San Diego toward EUV light sources, controls and FPGA work. Second, show the tools by name. Past postings asked for NX CAD, MATLAB, Simulink, PSpice, SystemVerilog or JMP, so list the ones you've actually used and what you made with them. Third, know the machine. Interviewers expect you to explain at a high level how EUV light is produced and why it matters to chipmakers.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 ASML internship?
No. The summer 2026 US postings, the first of which went up on September 22, 2025, have all closed, and that program has run. Summer 2027 US postings haven't appeared yet as of October 3, 2026. Set ASML's US internship job alert so you see each one when it posts.
When do ASML summer 2027 internships open in the US?
They're expected from about October 2026 through February 2027, one posting at a time. Last cycle's first US posting appeared September 22, 2025 and the last on February 16, 2026. This year none had posted by October 3, so the wave is running later than last year.
Is the ASML internship application rolling?
Yes, posting by posting. ASML doesn't run one program-wide deadline; each US requisition opens on its own date and is taken down individually once it's filled. Because roles appear from fall into February, the job alert matters more than any single date.
How much do ASML interns make in the US?
Archived US postings published hourly bands: $17 to $53 for Mechanical Engineering and $18 to $57 for Controls and Automation in San Diego (summer 2026), and $18 to $56 for FPGA verification (summer 2025). ASML says intern pay is hourly, set by education level, and relocation support may be available.
Where are ASML's US internships?
Mostly Wilton, Connecticut and San Diego, California, the two hubs that posted most past roles. ASML's US page also lists San Jose, California; Chandler, Arizona; Hillsboro, Oregon; Austin, Texas; Manassas, Virginia; and Albany, New York. Past postings required you to work on site.
What is the ASML internship interview process?
US applicants describe a HireVue video interview, mostly behavioral, followed by a technical interview with the hiring team. Questions included how your experience fits the role and what you know about ASML. ASML doesn't publish the steps, so expect them to vary by team.
Does ASML sponsor visas for US interns?
Generally not. ASML's US page asks for authorization to work in the United States, a summer 2026 posting asked for it without employer sponsorship, and most US postings require eligibility to access export-controlled technology. International students may find ASML's internships in the Netherlands or Asia more accessible.
Does ASML offer co-ops as well as summer internships?
Yes. ASML's US co-op program runs during an academic semester or quarter, and students can combine it with a summer internship, for example interning in summer and continuing as a co-op in the fall. Co-op students seeking credit apply through their school's co-op advisor.
ASML's US summer 2027 postings haven't arrived, so set the alert and use the gap. A remote Externship gives you a finished data or hardware project to show when they do.
