Last updated: October 2026
Allegion posted almost its entire summer 2027 intern class in September 2026. On 3 October its Workday board showed 66 live US internship and co-op requisitions, the first dated 31 August and the newest added on 2 October, and not one states a closing date. The program is a full-time, paid, 12-week summer internship, and about two thirds of the seats are in central Indiana.
In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, and you intern in summer 2027. Allegion is the company behind Schlage locks, LCN door closers and Von Duprin exit devices, with $3.8 billion in 2024 revenue and a US base in Carmel, Indiana. Where state law requires a posted range, its reqs list $25 to $26 an hour for engineering and software interns and $22 to $23 for business roles.

Allegion hires interns into connected-lock engineering, supply chain, finance and product roles, and a finished project helps you stand out in any of them. Externships are short, remote programs where you complete a real project for a real company, most commonly over 8 weeks. The Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense Externship fits Allegion's firmware, hardware and connected-product roles, and the Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics Externship fits its supply chain and operations internships. What Is an Allegion Internship?
An Allegion internship is a full-time, paid, 12-week summer placement at the maker of Schlage, LCN and Von Duprin security products, working on real projects in engineering, IT, supply chain, finance, marketing or sales. Allegion's US Students & Graduates page lists those functions and says the program is open to current undergraduate and graduate students. Most seats sit at the Carmel, Indiana campus and the Indianapolis plants, including the Tobey Drive site that builds exit devices, with smaller clusters in Colorado Springs, Golden and Princeton, Illinois. Most reqs promise networking with fellow interns through activities run by Allegion's Talent Attraction Team and CliftonStrengths coaching, and the same page lists full-time programs for graduates, from a Finance Leadership Program to a two-year Product Development Rotational Program. Allegion plc is registered in Ireland, but this guide covers its US internships only.

When Do Allegion Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Allegion recruits summer interns in one fall wave. The summer 2027 reqs went up from 31 August 2026, with most posted between 8 and 11 September and a few added through 2 October. That's roughly 8 to 9 months before a summer start. Older evidence points to the same fall pattern: a summer 2023 software intern req was live by mid-November 2022, and some plant roles have posted as late as February. Applications for summer 2028 are expected around late August to October 2027.
Applications are open right now: 66 US internship and co-op reqs on 3 October, all rolling, including a software quality assurance intern in Golden added on 30 September and a hardware engineering intern in Indianapolis added on 2 October.
The best window to apply and interview. Reqs are rolling, so each one can close as soon as its hiring manager makes an offer. The Industrial Design spring co-op needs to be filled before a January start.
Expected stragglers: in past cycles a few plant roles posted as late as February. Most summer 2027 seats should already be filled.
The Industrial Design co-op runs in spring 2027 at the Carmel campus. Summer interns finish onboarding paperwork.
The 12-week internship runs full time, with intern cohort events and access to leaders. Allegion's graduate programs are the main path to a full-time role. Applications for summer 2028 are expected around late August to October 2027.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Allegion's reqs are rolling. None of the 66 lists a closing date, and each one is a single role at a single site, so a hiring manager can stop reviewing as soon as they find the intern they want. The wave is also fully formed: 64 of the 66 reqs were posted in September, so there's no second batch coming in spring to wait for. Applying in October puts you in front of every one of those hiring managers before their shortlists form, whether the role sits at the Carmel campus or at a plant in Princeton, Mount Comfort or Greenfield.
Which Allegion Internship Programs Should You Target?
Allegion's 66 live reqs fall into six groups. Each is its own application, and several list a second location.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Allegion's program page sets recommendations, and the reqs add role-specific lines:
• Student status: current students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.
• Class year: the program page recommends junior or senior standing at the start of the internship; some engineering reqs only require sophomore year to be complete.
• GPA: the page recommends 3.0 or higher; 7 of 66 reqs state a GPA line, usually 3.0 (2.8 on the EHS intern).
• Work authorization: 59 of 66 reqs say the company doesn't intend to sponsor employment visas such as H-1B or TN; the page asks for US-based, US-authorized applicants.
• Leadership: many reqs ask for proof of leadership ability and initiative, such as a club officer role or a team captaincy.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff?
Usually not. On Allegion's program page the 3.0 is a recommendation, and only 7 of the 66 live reqs write a GPA into the requirements, mostly hardware and manufacturing roles. Leadership counts heavily instead: the reqs keep asking for proof of initiative, like a club role or a project you led. If your GPA is under 3.0, apply anyway and put that evidence near the top.
What Skills Does Allegion Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Allegion's reqs ask for three kinds of skills. Engineering problem solving: root cause analysis, building and testing prototypes, analyzing test data and, for hardware roles, sensors, IoT and PCB layout. Plant improvement: manufacturing processes, Lean and operational excellence, and hands-on shop-floor work at the Indianapolis and Princeton plants. Software and data: Python, C# or JavaScript and automated testing on the Golden software roles, and Excel and Power BI on supply chain and marketing roles.

How Is Demand for Engineering Interns Moving Right Now?
Mechanical engineering intern postings · Sep vs Aug 2026
vs 207 in August
Allegion posted on the same September clock as the rest of the engineering market, so the competition for its summer 2027 seats is happening this fall.
Daily US job-posting counts, Sep 1–30 vs Aug 1–31, 2026. Covers under half of US postings; shows direction, not market size. Pay = median of employer-published ranges only (87 postings in September, 36 in August).
Build These Skills Before You Apply
Several of Allegion's reqs describe work you can practice in a remote Externship before your interviews.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Connected products & IoT | Hardware Engineering intern: "design and evaluate sensors and IoT technologies for new products" | Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense |
| Supply chain & operations | Supply chain and Operational Excellence Lean interns at Carmel, Mount Comfort and Colorado Springs | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Product management | Product Manager for Allegion Home and Product Marketing for mobile credentials | BeReal Product Management |
| Market & UX research | Market Research and UX Research interns on the Research & Design team | Consumer Behavior Insights with Generous Brands |
| Finance & accounting | Finance and Accounting Leadership Program intern and Tax intern in Carmel | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis |
For engineering roles, the most convincing proof is a prototype you built and tested yourself, with the data to show what changed between versions.
What Is the Allegion Application and Interview Process Like?
Allegion doesn't publish its interview steps, but the program page and reqs show the path:
1. Use the intern filter. Allegion's University page links to its Workday site filtered to intern roles; apply to each req separately.
2. Match the site. Many functions repeat across plants, and a few reqs list two locations, so pick the site you can actually work at.
3. Check the requirements line. Most reqs state the work-authorization rule and many state a class-year floor, so confirm you meet both before you apply.
4. Team interviews. Allegion doesn't publish its rounds. Prepare a project story that shows root cause analysis and testing, since those come up in most reqs.
5. Offer. Offers are rolling. Real Allegion offers come through its Workday process, never through a text-only chat that sends you a check.
What Students on Reddit Say
There isn't much Reddit discussion of Allegion internships. These two threads are useful for timing and for one warning.
Students compared notes on a summer 2023 Allegion software intern posting that was live by mid-November 2022. Months later one commenter described a text-only Zoom interview followed by a check to buy a laptop, the classic fake-check scam, so make sure any offer comes through Allegion's own Workday process.
In an October 2023 thread about tech internships in Connecticut, a commenter pointed to Allegion Access Technologies in Farmington (formerly Stanley Access Technologies) as hiring interns for the following summer, and the student said they applied the next day.
How Do You Stand Out for an Allegion Internship?
Three moves. First, know the brands and the plant. Schlage makes residential and commercial locks, LCN makes door closers, and Von Duprin makes the exit devices built at the Tobey Drive plant in Indianapolis. Naming the product line behind the req you're applying to shows you've done more than skim the title.
Second, bring a leadership example. Many of Allegion's reqs ask for proven leadership ability and initiative and give examples like club officer or team captain. Have one specific story ready, with what you changed and what happened.
Third, look beyond Carmel. Twenty of the 66 reqs sit at the Carmel campus, but there are plant roles in Princeton, Illinois, Mount Comfort and Greenfield, Indiana, and Colorado Springs too. Those give you hands-on shop-floor work, which is exactly the experience Allegion's reqs keep asking for.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Allegion internship?
No. Summer 2026 has ended and its reqs are no longer posted. What's open now is the next cycle: 66 summer 2027 internships and spring 2027 co-ops on Allegion's Workday board, posted between 31 August and 2 October 2026, with no closing dates. Apply this fall while every role is still live.
When do Allegion internship applications open for summer 2027?
They're already open. Allegion posted its first summer 2027 req on 31 August 2026 and most of the rest in September. Older evidence shows the same fall pattern in past cycles, so applications for summer 2028 are expected around late August to October 2027. The reqs are rolling, so earlier is better.
How much do Allegion interns make?
Where state law requires a posted range, Allegion lists $25 to $26 an hour for engineering, software and manufacturing interns and $22 to $23 for business roles like field sales, supply chain and product marketing. Reqs located only in Indiana don't publish pay, so don't assume they match those ranges.
How long is the Allegion internship?
Twelve weeks, full time, in summer 2027, according to Allegion's US Students & Graduates page and several reqs. One quality engineering role in Princeton, Illinois is part time. The two Industrial Design co-ops are the exception to the summer calendar: they run in spring 2027 at the Carmel campus.
Does Allegion sponsor visas for interns?
No. 59 of the 66 live reqs say the company doesn't intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status, naming H-1B and TN, and the program page asks for applicants based in the US and authorized to work here. The other seven reqs are silent, so confirm with the recruiter before applying.
What GPA and class year does Allegion want?
Allegion recommends a 3.0 GPA or higher and junior or senior standing at the start of the internship. Only 7 of the 66 reqs write a GPA into their requirements, and some engineering reqs only need sophomore year complete. Read the specific req, because the line varies by team.
Where are Allegion internships located?
Mostly in central Indiana: the Carmel campus, two Indianapolis sites, Mount Comfort and Greenfield. Colorado Springs and Golden, Colorado and Princeton, Illinois are the next clusters, with single roles in Farmington, Connecticut; Everett, Washington; Olathe, Kansas; Itasca, Illinois; Wilmington, Delaware; and one remote Indiana role.
Does Allegion hire interns full time?
Allegion doesn't publish a conversion rate. It runs full-time programs for graduating students, including a Finance Leadership Program, a Supply Chain Leadership Program, an Accelerated Development Program for engineers and a two-year Product Development Rotational Program, and the finance intern role is built as a feeder into the first.
Allegion's summer 2027 reqs are live now and rolling. Apply to the roles that fit your major this month, and if you'd like a finished project to talk through in interviews, a remote Externship takes about 5 to 10 hours a week.
