Last updated: October 2026
The USTA has put the dates for its 2027 summer internship in writing: the program runs June to August 2027, applications open in mid-December 2026, and they're accepted through 5 March 2027. Last cycle the United States Tennis Association posted a separate requisition for each department, from National & Global Events to Technology and the USTA Foundation, with pay of $16 to $35 an hour in the six postings we read. Here's the cycle in plain words: you apply in winter 2026-27 and intern in summer 2027, about six months later. Nothing is open for summer today. The one internship-category posting on 17 October 2026 is a different program, a February to June strength and conditioning fellowship.

What Is a USTA Internship?
A USTA internship is a paid, eight-week summer role with the United States Tennis Association, the national governing body for tennis and the organization behind the US Open. The USTA's summer internship program places undergraduate and graduate students in departments across its national offices, such as National & Global Events, Technology, Merchandising, the USTA Foundation and Security. You don't need to know tennis; the 2026 postings say "Don't know tennis? Don't worry." This page covers the USTA national office. The USTA's regional sections, local tennis associations, the ATP and WTA tours and seasonal US Open event jobs hire separately and aren't part of this program.

When Do USTA Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
The USTA has stated its 2027 calendar on its own internships page. The summer 2027 program runs June to August 2027, applications open in mid-December 2026, and they're accepted through 5 March 2027, a window of about 2.5 months that opens roughly 6 months before the start. Last cycle ran the same way: the requisitions were posted on 22 December 2025 for a 9 June 2026 start, about 5.5 months ahead. The 2025 page described applications as open from mid-December through early April.
Summer 2027 applications aren't open yet. The only internship-category posting is the 2027 Strength & Conditioning Fellowship (February to June 2027, Orlando), a separate program for exercise-science graduates. Use this time to choose a department and join the talent network.
Prepare your résumé and pick one department, since each is a separate posting. Join the USTA's internship talent network so you hear the day postings go live. Graduate students look for the separate graduate postings.
Applications for summer 2027 open in mid-December 2026 and are accepted through 5 March 2027, per the USTA. Last cycle the page said March 6 but the requisitions were scheduled to close on 28 February, so apply well before March.
Selection happens after the window closes. The USTA doesn't publish interview steps or offer timing, so keep checking your email and the iCIMS candidate portal.
The program runs June to August 2027. The 2026 program ran 9 June to 11 August (eight weeks), hybrid with three days a week on site, with a group or independent project presented to staff.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
The USTA's window has a hard end date, and the end date moves. The page said applications would be accepted through 6 March 2026, but the requisitions were scheduled to close on 28 February. For 2027 the page says 5 March, so treat 28 February as your real deadline and aim for December or January. Each department posts separately, and the USTA doesn't publish an applicant count, so applying early to the department you want is the safest move.
Which USTA Internship Programs Should You Target?
The USTA posts one requisition per department, undergraduate and graduate separately. These are the postings we read from the 2026 cycle, with the pay they stated.

| 2027 Strength & Conditioning Fellowship (open now) | A separate fellowship, February to June 2027, up to 18 weeks, Orlando; not a summer internship | $13,500 stipend plus approved travel | CSCS; bachelor's in exercise science or related field earned within five years, or a graduate student |
Find every posting on the USTA internships page. 2027 rates aren't posted yet, so treat these as the 2026 figures. Other 2026 departments included Security, Video Services, Event Services and Digital Program Support.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The USTA runs separate postings for undergraduate and graduate students:
• Undergraduate and graduate students: the program takes both; the Graduate Talent Acquisition posting asks for someone "currently pursuing an MBA or Master's degree" in a related field.
• Tennis knowledge: not required. The postings say "Don't know tennis? Don't worry."
• Schedule: undergraduate roles Monday to Thursday, 9 to 5 ET; graduate roles Monday to Friday. Hybrid, three days a week on site.
• Strength & Conditioning Fellowship (separate, open now): a bachelor's degree in exercise science or a related field earned in the last five years, or a graduate student; CSCS certification; US citizenship or lawful permanent residence; and Safe Play approval including a background screen.
• GPA, work authorization and academic credit for summer interns: not stated in the postings we read.

Do You Need to Love Tennis to Get a USTA Internship?
No. The postings say you can find yourself in the game without knowing tennis. The National & Global Events posting asks for an interest in sports management, marketing or event operations, and passion for tennis or the Olympic and Paralympic movement is listed as a plus, not a requirement.
What Skills Does the USTA Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
We read six USTA postings from the 2026 cycle, but they span very different departments, so the bars would mislead; here is what they ask for in words. Events: strong project management, Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, and Canva or PowerPoint. Technology and US Open: Tableau dashboards, data visualization, database maintenance and data wrangling. All roles: strong written and verbal communication, organization and a project presented to staff at the end.
Note: We read six USTA internship postings from the 2026 cycle, from archived copies of the USTA's own requisitions. They cover six different departments, which is too varied to chart. The skills above come straight from those postings.

What Is the USTA Application and Interview Process Like?
The USTA doesn't publish an interview format. This is what the page and postings show:
1. Join the talent network. The USTA's internships page links to an internship talent network that tells you when postings go live.
2. Choose a department. Each department is its own posting, and undergraduate and graduate roles are separate.
3. Apply on iCIMS. Open the Internship position type on the USTA's iCIMS board once postings go live in mid-December.
4. Interview and offer. Interview steps and offer timing aren't published, so apply early and watch your email.
5. Complete the program. Interns present a group or independent project to staff, attend weekly professional development workshops and meet senior leaders.
The USTA's page says interns can be considered for roles after the internship ends, and it shows former interns now working at the USTA and the USTA Foundation.
What Students on Reddit Say
We found no first-hand USTA internship threads on Reddit. The threads that came up are about US Open seasonal event jobs, which are part-time jobs rather than internships, so there are no quote cards here.
How Do You Stand Out for a USTA Internship?
Three moves. First, apply early. The stated deadline is 5 March 2027, but last cycle's requisitions were scheduled to close a week before the page's date, so aim for December or January. Second, apply to a department, not to the USTA. Events wants project management and sponsorship research, Technology wants Tableau and data work, and each posting is separate. Third, show an independent project, since every intern completes one. The USTA doesn't publish an applicant count or a conversion rate, so treat the internship as the way in and ask about roles after the program once you're there.

Are USTA internships paid?
Yes. In the 2026 postings we read, undergraduates earned $16.00 an hour (National & Global Events and Technology PMO) or $20.00 (USTA Foundation New York and Merchandising), and graduate interns earned $35.00. Those are last cycle's rates, taken from archived USTA postings, and the 2027 rates haven't been posted.
Are any USTA internships open right now?
No summer internships. The only internship-category posting on 17 October 2026 is the 2027 Strength & Conditioning Fellowship, a February to June 2027 program in Orlando with a $13,500 stipend. It needs a CSCS certification and an exercise science degree or graduate enrollment, so it isn't open to most summer applicants.
Can graduate students apply for a USTA internship?
Yes. The USTA posts separate graduate intern roles, such as Technology, US Open and Enterprise Systems and Talent Acquisition, alongside the undergraduate ones. The 2026 graduate postings paid $35.00 an hour, ran Monday to Friday and asked for current enrollment in a master's or MBA program in a related field.
Do I need to know tennis to intern at the USTA?

Are US Open seasonal jobs the same as a USTA internship?
No. US Open seasonal event jobs, such as guest services, are part-time seasonal jobs hired separately. The USTA's summer internship is an eight-week program of departmental projects. The USTA's regional sections and local tennis associations also hire on their own and aren't covered by this national-office program.
Nothing is open for summer at the USTA today, but the dates are in writing: applications open in mid-December 2026. Pick a department now, join the talent network, and if you want a finished project to show, a remote Externship takes about 5 to 10 hours a week.
