UNICEF USA pays its summer interns $18.00 an hour for 12 weeks, remote or hybrid, at up to 30 hours a week. It recruits summer interns once a year, so there's no fall door to knock on: as of 16 October 2026 its job board lists nine openings and none is an internship. The plan is simple. You apply in spring 2027 and you intern in summer 2027. One warning before you start: UNICEF USA is a US nonprofit, not UNICEF the United Nations agency, which runs its own separate internship programme.

What Is a UNICEF USA Internship?

A UNICEF USA internship is a paid, 12-week summer placement at a US nonprofit, with $18.00 an hour, up to 30 hours a week, and a remote or hybrid setup. UNICEF USA was founded in 1947 and is one of 33 national committees that raise funds for UNICEF's work in 190 countries and territories. It's not UNICEF itself. The UN agency runs its own internship programme with separate rules, so don't mix up the two when you search. Interns join a cohort with intern-only events and workshops, a dedicated manager or mentor, and a Gallup CliftonStrengths session.

When Do UNICEF USA Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

UNICEF USA doesn't run a fall or spring intake. Its official page says it recruits summer interns once a year and that dates appear in each posting. That page was last updated on 27 March 2026, and a third-party write-up dated 6 April 2026 already listed open roles, so the 2026 round appears to have opened in late March or early April, roughly two to three months before a June start. That's one documented cycle and no official dates, so treat the projection below as low to medium confidence: applications for summer 2027 are expected around March to April 2027.

The door is closed, and that's normal. UNICEF USA's job board lists nine openings on 16 October 2026 and none is an internship. There's nothing to apply to until spring. Use the gap to get your materials and your evidence ready.

Applications for summer 2027 expected to open, projected from the 2026 round. UNICEF USA publishes no dates, so check the job board from the start of March and read each posting's closing date.

Spring 2027

The official process runs in five steps: apply online, phone screening, Zoom interviews, a verbal offer, then a written offer. Internship start and end dates are listed in each posting.

Summer 2027

Twelve weeks at $18.00 an hour, up to 30 hours a week, remote or hybrid from within the US, with a cohort of fellow interns and a dedicated manager or mentor.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

UNICEF USA calls its program a limited number of paid internships and recruits once a year, so there's no second chance in the fall. It publishes no closing dates in advance. You can't plan around a deadline nobody has promised you, so assume a short window. Have your resume ready before March and apply as soon as a role in your department appears.

Which UNICEF USA Internship Programs Should You Target?

There's no umbrella application. UNICEF USA posts department-specific summer roles each spring, and none is posted now. The areas below come from a third-party list of the 2026 roles, not from UNICEF USA, so confirm against the 2027 postings.

See the official paid internships page for the current rules. UNICEF USA doesn't offer international internships, and it doesn't sponsor visas.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

The eligibility rules come straight from UNICEF USA's own page:

• Age and enrollment: at least 18 years old and enrolled in a degree-granting program.

• Work authorization: valid US work authorization is required, and UNICEF USA doesn't provide sponsorship.

• Location: you must work from the United States for the whole internship. There are no international internships.

• Equipment: remote and hybrid interns need Internet access and a computer.

• Costs: interns arrange their own travel, lodging and living expenses if they need them. Course credit may be possible, so ask your school.

Does UNICEF USA Have a GPA Cutoff?

No GPA requirement appears on the official page. What it does state is enrollment, age and work authorization. With no intern job descriptions live, there's no skills filter to read yet either, so the real screen is fit with a department's spring posting. Check each posting for any extra requirements.

What Skills Does UNICEF USA Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

No intern job descriptions are live, so there's no skill count to show. Department names in the 2026 list suggest what the work looks like: marketing and brand, donor and partner relationships, policy, and research with data. Expect writing, audience insight and spreadsheet comfort to matter, then confirm against the real postings in spring.

Note: No UNICEF USA internship was posted on 16 October 2026 (nine openings on its ADP job board, none an internship), so there are no intern job descriptions to count and this page shows no skill chart. Skills here are inferred from department names and should be checked against the spring 2027 postings.

Remote Externships run 4 to 11 weeks, most commonly 8, so you can finish one well before spring postings go up. None of them replaces a UNICEF USA department posting, but each gives you finished work to cite.

What Is the UNICEF USA Application and Interview Process Like?

UNICEF USA publishes five steps for internship candidates:

1. Apply online. Use the job board linked from the paid internships page. Internship dates are listed in each posting.

2. Phone screening. A short first conversation.

3. Zoom interviews. Interviews are held over video, so test your setup and your connection beforehand.

4. Verbal offer. It comes first.

5. Written offer. The written offer follows once the verbal one is accepted.

UNICEF USA warns that all legitimate recruiting email comes from an @unicefusa.org address and that it never charges a fee at any stage.

What Students on Reddit Say

We found no first-hand UNICEF USA internship accounts on Reddit. Searches mostly returned threads about UNICEF the UN agency, which is a different employer, so we haven't used them.

How Do You Stand Out for a Once-a-Year Intake?

Three moves. First, be ready before March: with one intake a year and a limited number of places, a late start costs you the cycle. Second, match a department, not the organization. The 2026 roles spanned marketing, partnerships, major giving, policy and research, and a resume that names the department's work reads as a fit. Third, show finished work. A remote Externship project, a campaign you ran for a student group or a small data analysis gives interviewers something concrete in a phone screen. UNICEF USA doesn't publish an applicant count or a return-offer rate, so we won't guess at either.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 UNICEF USA internship?

No. Summer 2026 is over, and as of 16 October 2026 none of UNICEF USA's nine job board openings is an internship. It recruits summer interns once a year, so the next door is summer 2027, with postings expected around March to April 2027.

Does UNICEF USA offer paid internships?

Yes. UNICEF USA states that interns are paid $18.00 per hour. Internships last 12 weeks, interns may work up to 30 hours a week in the summer, and the roles can be remote or hybrid. It may also be possible to receive course credit, according to the official page.

When should I apply for a summer 2027 UNICEF USA internship?

Expect postings around March to April 2027. UNICEF USA doesn't publish dates, so this is a projection from one cycle: its page was updated on 27 March 2026 and roles were circulating by 6 April 2026. Check its job board from March and apply early.

Who is eligible for a UNICEF USA internship?

You must be at least 18, enrolled in a degree-granting program, and have valid US work authorization. UNICEF USA doesn't provide sponsorship, and all interns must work from the United States for the whole internship. It offers no international internships and publishes no GPA requirement.

Is a UNICEF USA internship the same as a UNICEF internship?

No. UNICEF USA is a US nonprofit and one of 33 national committees that support UNICEF. UNICEF is the United Nations agency, and it runs its own internship programme with a separate application and separate rules. Check which employer a posting belongs to before you apply.

Are UNICEF USA internships remote?

They can be remote or hybrid. Interns need Internet access and a computer, and they must work from the United States throughout. UNICEF USA doesn't state an office location on its internships page, so confirm any hybrid expectations in the specific posting before you apply.

What is the UNICEF USA internship interview process like?

UNICEF USA lists five steps: apply online, a phone screening, Zoom interviews, a verbal offer and a written offer. It doesn't publish question formats or the number of interview rounds. It also says legitimate recruiters write only from an @unicefusa.org address and never charge fees.

Does a UNICEF USA internship lead to a full-time job?

UNICEF USA doesn't publish a conversion rate or return-offer figure, so we won't guess at one. Interns do join a cohort with a dedicated manager or mentor and organization-wide events, which gives you real contacts. Ask your manager about open roles near the end of the summer.

Nothing is open today, and the next window is expected around March to April 2027. Use the months in between to build proof: a remote Externship turns interest in the nonprofit sector into a finished project your spring application can point at.
