Sysco just opened its Summer 2027 internship program: on August 20, 2026, the company posted seven new intern requisitions at once across Finance, Technology, and Supply Chain, with no stated closing date. Sysco is the largest foodservice distributor in North America, Fortune's #56 company with $81.4 billion in revenue, and its own 10-week Summer Program runs across a Houston headquarters and distribution sites nationwide. Applications for the 2027–2028 cycle (you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027) are reviewed on a rolling basis and, based on the prior cycle, could stay open into January 2027. But seats fill as they're claimed, not on a fixed date, so the week these postings went live is the best time to apply.

What Is a Sysco Internship?

A Sysco internship is a paid, 10-week summer placement at the largest foodservice distributor in North America, a Fortune 100 company with over 71,000 colleagues, a fleet of more than 13,000 vehicles, and about 333 distribution facilities serving over 700,000 customer locations. Interns work in Supply Chain, Technology, or one of four Finance tracks (general, Treasury, Internal Audit, Commercial & Merchandising), plus occasional placements in marketing, HR, and merchandising. Every intern gets a real project, a mentor, and executive access, and the strongest performers move into named rotational programs after graduation. Sysco's headquarters sits in Houston's Energy Corridor, and its portfolio includes brands like FreshPoint, SYGMA, and Edward Don.

When Do Sysco Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Sysco's calendar runs longer than most: the summer 2026 cycle stayed open from roughly September 2025 through January 16, 2026, before the 10-week program ran May 18 to July 31, 2026. For summer 2027, that pattern is already repeating early. Seven new intern requisitions posted on August 20, 2026, roughly 9 to 10 months before a summer 2027 start, and none carries a stated closing date. So you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027, and the window this year could run for months, not weeks.

Now · Summer 2026YOU ARE HEREROLLING — APPLY WEEK 1

Applications are open right now. Sysco posted Finance (4 tracks), Technology, and Supply Chain internship requisitions on August 20, 2026, all reviewed on a rolling basis with no stated close date. Nothing says you have to wait.

The Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy Externship and the Attronica FP&A Externship are remote, real-company projects you can finish alongside your application, giving interviewers something concrete to talk about.
Fall 2026

Keep applying and prepping in parallel: campus recruiting events, the Sysco Talent Community, and a finished project for your target track. Supply Chain specifically prefers rising seniors, so sophomores should aim at Finance or Technology first.

~January 2027EXPECTED

Expected narrowing point, projected from the summer 2026 cycle's mid-January close. Individual tracks can fill and disappear from the board well before any company-wide cutoff, so don't assume a track posted in August is still open in December.

February to April 2027EXPECTED

Rolling interviews continue: a recruiter phone screen or digital assessment, then a one-on-one or panel interview with a hiring manager, mostly behavioral and STAR-format. Offers are contingent on a background check and drug screen.

Summer 2027

10 weeks, roughly May to August, with a mentor, a real project, and a capstone presentation to leadership. Strong performers move into named rotational programs or other full-time roles.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Sysco's own account describes the internship program as reviewed "on a rolling basis" and open "until all current positions are filled," and the summer 2026 cycle backs that up: postings stayed live for months before closing in mid-January. That sounds like plenty of time, but it isn't evidence that any single track waits for you. Seven separate requisitions posted the same day, each filling independently, and a specific track like Software Dev Engineer Intern or Warehouse Operations Supply Chain Intern can close the moment Sysco fills its seats, regardless of what the other six are doing. Apply the week a track posts, not the week you finally get around to it.

Which Sysco Internship Programs Should You Target?

Sysco's Summer 2027 wave posted seven distinct tracks on one day, four of them inside Finance alone. Pick the one that matches your major and GPA, since Sysco screens by degree concentration from the first application field.

See every open role on the Sysco Summer Program page. Occasional placements also open in marketing, HR, and corporate affairs under the same 10-week structure.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Every 2027 Sysco intern requisition we read carries the same core bar, with two things that vary by track:

Enrollment: Sysco's general guidance says rising junior classification, but the Supply Chain posting specifically prefers rising seniors, and the company FAQ says most internships target rising seniors. Check the specific posting, not just the general page.

GPA: published and real, unlike a lot of peers. Supply Chain lists a 2.7 minimum. All four Finance tracks and Technology list a 3.0 minimum.

Work authorization: every posting states applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. "on a full-time basis without future employment sponsorship." That's a hard stop for students who will need a visa.

Location: Finance and Technology are Houston hybrid roles with relocation not available, so you need to already be local. Supply Chain assigns nationwide sites and prefers candidates willing to relocate, with a stipend for those who qualify.

Does Sysco Have a Real GPA Cutoff?

Yes, and it's more specific than most companies publish. The general students page just says "Strong GPA," but every individual job description states a real number: 2.7 for Supply Chain, 3.0 for Finance and Technology. That gap likely reflects the physical, hands-on nature of the Supply Chain track versus the analytical Finance and Technology roles. If your GPA sits between 2.7 and 3.0, Supply Chain is the track where it won't screen you out.

What Skills Does Sysco Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

We read all six live 2027 postings in full, and five of them share the exact same "Professional Skills" block word for word: leadership, communication, business-issue research, managing ambiguity in a matrix organization, critical thinking, teamwork, and MS Office proficiency. Technology is the outlier, swapping that generic list for a real technical stack: ASP.net, C#, Python, SQL, and basic DevOps. What does that tell you? Outside of Technology, Sysco is screening for the same soft-skill profile across every function, and the degree concentration plus GPA floor is what actually separates one track from another.

How Is Demand for Supply Chain Interns Moving Right Now?

Supply chain intern hiring right now: August 2026

Across 94 US "supply chain intern" postings tracked this month (371 on a broader match) · aggregate market data, all employers · first snapshot for this tracker

The market has already flipped forward: 27.0% of supply chain intern postings now name 2027 in the title versus 15.3% naming 2026, a 1.8x lead for next summer
=
Employer-disclosed pay clusters $21–$29/hr at large national employers like Caterpillar, Cargill, and Ryder, above the $20.41/hr ZipRecruiter national average
SAP and named ERP tools barely register: just 1.9% of postings mention one, and zero of 12 full job descriptions read named any ERP, TMS, or WMS product by name

August 2026 is this tracker's baseline month for supply chain roles, so month-over-month deltas start at the September update. The signal now is timing: postings, titles, and even Sysco's own board have already rolled onto the summer 2027 calendar.

Method: aggregate analysis of a 215-posting US supply chain / logistics intern sample via Adzuna, plus ZipRecruiter advertised-pay pages, August 2026 baseline (no prior month exists for this tracker yet). Sample indexes under half of all US postings; figures show direction and relative level, not total market share.

Build These Skills Before You Apply

Sysco's own postings barely ask for supply chain software by name, which matches the wider market. What both actually reward is Excel, business analysis, and a finished project you can talk through.

Skill (from real JDs)JD evidenceExternship that builds it
Warehouse operations & continuous improvementSupply Chain JD: "complexities of warehouse management," capstone continuous-improvement projectAmazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy Externship
Financial modeling & profitability analysisFinance JD: "financial modeling, customer profitability, business performance measurement"Attronica FP&A & Private Company Valuation
Data analysis & reportingInternal Audit and Commercial & Merchandising JDs both name "data analytics" and category-performance analysisBeats by Dre Data Analytics

The overlap runs deep: the Attronica deliverable is FP&A work in Sysco's own Finance-JD vocabulary, and the Amazon Externship's operational-strategy project maps almost directly onto the Supply Chain posting's warehouse capstone.

What Is the Sysco Application and Interview Process Like?

Sysco publishes its hiring stages on its own careers site, and intern-specific Glassdoor reports confirm the shape:

1. Apply online or through campus recruiting. Glassdoor's intern interview data shows 67% applied online and 33% through campus recruiting; set aside 15 to 30 minutes for the application itself.

2. Screening. A recruiter phone interview or a digital assessment, sometimes with a video component. You typically hear back within 1 to 2 weeks of applying.

3. Interview. A one-on-one or panel interview with a hiring manager or director, mostly conversational and behavioral (STAR method). Glassdoor rates the Summer Internship interview at 2.7 out of 5 for difficulty, with a 100% positive experience rate among interns who reported one, well above the company-wide 57.2% average.

4. Offer, contingent on screening. A background check, drug screen, and I-9 verification within 3 business days of your hire date. Company-wide, Sysco's full hiring process runs 2 to 6 weeks.

One detail worth knowing before you prep: Sysco's own hiring-process page explicitly bans using generative AI, recording, or transcription tools during assessments and interviews, calling it part of the company's integrity standard. Practice out loud instead, our HireVue question guide with a free AI mock tool is built for exactly that kind of rehearsal, not for use during the real thing.

What Students on Reddit Say

Three threads, from Sysco's own subreddit and two logistics-focused communities, show what students actually ask about this internship.

Got the internship offer for the Boston location this summer, now I'm mostly stressing about the drug test and whether they're still screening for THC.

How Do You Stand Out Across 7 Tracks Posted the Same Day?

Three moves. First, pick the track your major and GPA actually clear: Sysco screens by degree concentration from the first field, and a Supply Chain major with a 2.8 GPA has a real shot at a track that a 3.0-minimum Finance posting would filter out. Second, build proof in the exact language five of six postings share verbatim, managing ambiguity in a matrix organization, Excel and MS Office, cross-functional communication, since that is what every interviewer is actually screening for. Third, don't wait for a deadline that doesn't exist. Sysco reviews on a rolling basis and posted seven tracks the same day; each one can close independently the moment its seats fill.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Sysco internship?

No, that cycle has ended. Sysco's summer 2026 program ran May 18 to July 31, 2026, and applications closed around January 16, 2026. The summer 2027 cycle is open right now, with seven tracks posted August 20, 2026.

When do Sysco internship applications open for summer 2027?

They're already open. Sysco posted Finance, Technology, and Supply Chain requisitions on August 20, 2026, with no stated deadline. Based on the prior cycle, the window could stay open into January 2027, though individual tracks can close sooner.

Is Sysco internship hiring rolling?

Yes. Sysco reviews applications on a rolling basis and keeps postings open until seats are filled, not on a fixed calendar date. Seven tracks posted the same day and each fills independently.

Does Sysco require a minimum GPA for internships?

Yes, and it's published per track: 2.7 minimum for Supply Chain, 3.0 minimum for all four Finance tracks and Technology. That's more specific than most companies disclose.

What is the Sysco internship interview process like?

An online or campus-recruiting application, a recruiter phone screen or digital assessment, then a one-on-one or panel interview that's mostly behavioral. Glassdoor rates it 2.7 out of 5 for difficulty with a 100% positive experience rate among interns.

Do Sysco interns get return offers?

Sysco publishes no conversion rate, but says many interns "transition into full-time roles," especially in supply chain, operations, and finance, often through named programs like the 10-month Supply Chain Future Leader Rotation or the 2-year Ignite Technology Rotational Program.

What skills does Sysco look for in interns?

Across all six live 2027 postings: communication, critical thinking, leadership, and managing ambiguity appear in every one. Technology adds a real technical stack (ASP.net, C#, Python, SQL); Supply Chain adds physical stamina and willingness to relocate.

How much does a Sysco internship pay?

Sysco doesn't publish an official range; its posted pay boilerplate calls itself algorithmic, not a real figure. Third-party trackers show roughly $20 to $26 an hour, in line with what large foodservice and logistics employers pay supply chain interns generally.

Seven Sysco tracks posted the same day with no stated deadline, which means the real clock started the moment they went live. Spend the runway building proof: a remote Externship turns "interested in supply chain or finance" into a finished project you can point to in week one.
